Really enjoyed our lunch! My son ordered the chicken fingers which came with fries and coleslaw. It was a lot of food! I didn't count them but it looked like with 5 or 6 good sized chicken fingers. I ordered the gyro plate that came with fries and a salad. The gyro was excellent! Will definitely order again when I go back. Prices are very reasonable. And service was perfect. In preparation for my trip to Savannah, I read "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," just as so many others have done. Clary's is mentioned several times, so I made a mental note to check it out. Thankfully it was a rather short walk from our rental apartment! I'd heeded the warnings about the line here, and knew I'd need to get here before 9:30. We only had to wait about a minute for a table, but just a few minutes later, I could see a line forming out the door. As others have noted, they do turn over tables quickly here... surprisingly so, for such a large menu. Our food came out far quicker than expected. I decided to get scrambled egg whites with crispy bacon, well-done potatoes and a biscuit. The bacon was thick-cut and perfectly crunchy without being burned, and the scrambled egg whites were incredibly fluffy and light. Mind you, I didn't order them to be healthy, I just like egg whites. These were surprisingly airy and quite tasty! We were in and out of here in about a half an hour. I do want to come back and try their lunch items (that onion soup is calling my name). Make sure you check out the stained glass of the bird girl statue in the back, and take a look at the photos from behind the scenes of the movie next to the front door. I used to come here on occasion as a kid since my grandpa loved it. I took my daughter here for a mommy daughter weekend trip to Savannah. My daughter got the silver dollar pancakes and devoured them. I got the salmon cake Benedict. It was just okay. The salmon cakes were a tad tough. Since it was a short walk from our hotel, my husband and I came to Clary's Cafe for breakfast on our last morning in Savannah. I ordered the veggie omelet with a side of cheese grits and a biscuit. The veggie omelet had zucchini, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, and certainly didn't skimp on the veggies- they were both inside AND outside of the omelet. Each bite had veggies. I tried a bite of my husband's pancakes, and boy were they delicious! The server explained that they're made with a sweet cream batter, and they hardly need syrup, so I would recommend dipping instead of drenching your pancakes. We also saw quite a few cinnamon rolls come out, so they seem popular. The servers were nice and the diner itself is welcoming, with family pictures on the wall. The hype for Clary's is definitely overrated as the food and ambience is subpar. The "homemade" corned beef hash was canned and poorly doctored. The food was barely warm, the frech toast was cold and lacked flavor. When we arrived an employee was smoking in the parking lot, this ended up being a server. When we left there were at least 5 kitchen staff and servers in the parking lot smoking. All I can say is I hope they wash their hands! The bathroom was disgusting. If you want to experience the hype of dining at a recommended restaurant this is your place. If you want good hot food look elsewhere. read more

A wonderful, long standing, local diner in the Savannah historic district! I have eaten here enough that I certainly have my favorites. It was brunch time on this 20 degree, rare snowy day in Savannah that we decided to try their Oven Baked French Onion Soup. Delicious! It had a wonderful beef broth, with plenty of onions, a gracious slice of French bread and topped with plenty oven melted provolone cheese. My favorite Clary's omelettes are the Greek Omelette or Western Omelette. This morning I had their cheesy Western Omelette filled the usual bell peppers, onions and ham. Great as usual! My spouse ordered the Grilled Rueben and loved it! It was piled high with thinly sliced corned beef and complimented with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, their in house sauce and on grilled caraway rye. I was looking for a simple brunch spot in Savannah when I found Clary's Cafe. It's a cute diner style spot where you can be seated at tables or at the bar. When I came here on a Sunday, it was about 10:30am and there was already a large group waiting on their table outside the restaurant. Keep in mind there is no room to wait indoors, so if it's summertime you might be waiting in the heat for a bit. Despite the large crowd waiting on tables, my party of 2 was seated at the bar within 10 minutes. I ordered the crab cake Benedict with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were great! They were not overly crispy and cooked the way I like them. The Benedict was very tasty as well. I would have preferred the crab cake to have a bit more crab meat in it, but for the cheaper brunch price I understand their portioning. The hollandaise sauce was good as well. Also, the poached eggs were not super runny so if you're a fan of more solid eggs then you'll enjoy this. I prefer them to be more runny, but the more firm yolk didn't affect my enjoyment of the meal. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal and was definitely satisfied in choosing Clary's for brunch! I popped into Clary's while I waited for E Shaver's book store to open. The crowd was busy but not extreme. I did not have to wait for a table. The breakfast I chose was, again, a veggie omelette with a biscuit and fruit. First, the fruit--blackberries, strawberries, and bananas on top of the usual melon and grapes--YUM!! And a good portion as well. The omelette was good, a bit overdone, but still not anything to complain about. Their biscuit??? Now, that was a biscuit that would hold its own in any Southern kitchen. I was entertaining my daughter as well as my brother and his family while visiting Savannah and wanted to take them to a true classic restaurant. This could be a 1940's Brooklyn luncheonette thrown back to deep south cooking in Lowcountry. Whether you're their for the all day breakfast or during lunch, you'll never walk away hungry or broke. A family of 7 could eat for less than $100. When you arrive, you'll first see the counter luncheonette area which then opens to the main eating area. There's even a video jukebox near the front window. Pictures on the wall are of old Savannah as well as the movie "midnight in the garden of good & evil" which takes place in Savannah. My wife had the egg salad sandwich which see says was the best ever. I had the club sandwich as shown in my pic. My daughter had the crab cakes benedict which she said were excellent--- 2 large crabcakes on the poached eggs. For beverages you could order an old fashioned egg cream or possibly a malted milkshake. They also offer a bagel and lox breakfast plate which is quite different for lowcountry.
