City Chemist is a really cute family owned shop & boutique pharmacy! The staff (especially owner - David) were all very friendly and it is a breath of fresh air vs. chain drug stores. Tons of beauty items, hair care products, make up, lip balms, scrubs, soaps, nail polish and more. They even had Bond No. 9 perfume which is a great brand sold at Saks (so don't be expecting CVS pricing since these are ultra high end brands). They also had really cute makeup cases, travel bags, jewelry, cards, candles and a candy section. It reminds me between a cross between a Ricky's, a local pharmacy and a bit of a Dylan's candy. People who are real makeup junkies will find other brands like Paula Dorf and...get ready to get your brows in shape....Ramy (will be holding monthly brow-shaping workshops!). This is a phenomenal neighborhood gem! After suffering through negligent customer service, dirty stores and barren shelves at CVS etc, this is now always my first stop for OTC needs as well as prescriptions. The pharmacists are kind and thoughtful with advice -- it reminds me of pharmacies in Europe where the pharmacists can be trusted for guidance. Prices are a bit higher than CVS etc but worth the premium. And it is locally owned. read more

A great neighborhood pharmacy that also sells select home goods on the side. They have candles and a pick-and-mix candy bar too. The staff were very helpful and came to check in on me twice while I was perusing. I loved the wide selection of beauty products from luxury (Oribe, Eve Lom, etc) to drugstore (Thayers, Neutrogena, etc) brands. City Chemist also carries some solid French pharmacy favorites including Avène, Mustela, and Klorane. read more

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE: I work in the neighborhood and will NOT come back after my 2 previous experiences. First, I was told that I was unable to make a return (new and unused item) within a week of my purchase, as there is simply no manager after 4pm. That doesn't work for customers who work M-F. When I finally was able to make it in at 8:30am - the manager was so standoffish and rude that it was mind blowing. By far one of the most unfriendly and nasty people I've dealt with in a retail store - and I live in Brooklyn. At the end of it, I was not even allowed to make a return. I hope that the $20 that they saved was worth loosing a customer altogether. VERY poor excuse for customer service, and I actually work in customer service. It would be best to match the quality of your managers and staff with the quality of your products. read more

This is unlike any pharmacy I've been to, I went to the pharmacy located on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights to fill my prescription here after going to 3 different CVS's that didn't have it, none did they have it in stock but they were able to fill in like 10 minutes or less. The people at the pharmacy were very laid back and helpful!!! Forget CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens, this is a pharmacy I will definitely be coming back!!! read more

They are wonderful, and I trust them with ny medication 100%. There is a small town feel to them in that they will remember you and take responsibility for ensuring you get your medication. This is key for someone with a chronic illness. You just don't get that at the big chain pharmacies. Highly recommend. The pharmacists are professional and sweet. I can't believe I used to be a CVS customer for years before finally switching to this place! The first time I stepped foot in it was to transfer my prescriptions over since CVS around the corner on Henry has gotten so so bad. First I called ahead to find out what the process would be - it was simple, just bring in a list of the prescriptions with their numbers and my insurance card and they would make a profile for me and take care of the rest. When I walked in, I was greeted by name - they were expecting me! They completed a profile and included my flexible spending account information so that I could just call, pay and have the prescriptions delivered to my home for free if I needed (pretty convenient). Dmitri was a total sweetheart during the whole process. The first prescription I had filled there was not a routine one and they told me they had to order it. I said "okay, I guess just give me a call when it comes in" and they said "oh no, it will be here by tomorrow morning, you can pick it up then, sorry it's not available today." *dumbfounded* okay... the next three prescriptions I fill there are routine and they're filled and ready within minutes. As I'm leaving the store, I notice I paid about half what I normally pay at CVS so I called and find out there was no charge for one of them because it didn't have a copay. this was a routine prescription I was used to paying $10 for at CVS - which I always thought was a copay... no idea how to explain that one, maybe CVS charges a fee on top of their prescriptions? not sure... the other two were both less than what I paid at CVS as well. As for the other merchandise there - it's really nice, thoughtful and cute. I don't think any of it is any more expensive than anywhere else, and I appreciate being able to get a prescription and a higher end hair or skin care product I would normally only find at Sephora. I was not hassled by anybody there following me around - only greeted and asked once if I needed any help - not a big deal. I will say, I paid $4.99 for a 24ct bottle of Aleve and $9.99 for a Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day geranium soy wax candle. The Aleve is $4.80 and the candle is $11.50 on Soap.com so these seem like pretty competitive prices to me. read more

My 5 star rating is based entirely on the pharmacy and its staff (mainly Dmitri because he provides the best customer service ever!). The pharmacists are all friendly and go out of their way for their customers. I switched all my prescriptions to City Chemist from CVS after having *many* problems with the pharmacists at CVS (an example: the pharmacist told me that a drug I had an Rx for didn't exist - I went to City Chemist and they told me that not only did it exist, but they had it in stock!) If you live near this City Chemist location I *highly* recommend you start getting your Rxs filled here. They won't disappoint! read more

First and Foremost, let me just put it out there that the Chemist is like a knock off Sephora/Duane Reade just mashed together. And what do you get? WAY OVERPRICED ITEMS YOU CAN FIND ON EBAY FOR LIKE $10. I do go in here from time to time to try on the testers, but thats as far as I will go. I dread going in here because it is so odd. To me, its too upscale for my tatse. Like really, if I wanted to spend $56 on perfume, I would just go to Sephora and earn VIB Points or something. Yeah I sound douchey and what not, but whatever. This is the friendliest and most helpful pharmacy I have ever used in all my years in New York. After only a few visits they knew me by name and can usually fill prescriptions quickly while I wait (which is never long.) They have even delivered medicine to my building. I really appreciate that they are in the neighborhood. The rest of the shop is very pleasant with nice stuff, fairly priced and well curated. This place is absolutely adorable, but it's broken up into these tiny little sections: one for run-of-the-mill candy, one for high-end, organic baby products, one for high-end hair products, etc. But what does cheap drugstore candy have to do with organic baby products? Everything is spotless and bright and lovely, but the store itself doesn't really make any sense. It doesn't fill a void. Yes, this place is much prettier than CVS, Rite Aid, and Duane Reade, but what else does it really have to offer? All of those generic chains have a wider range of products. I love the fashion-y, designer greeting cards at City Chemist, but they're too expensive to actually buy. All of the other stuff they sell I can easily get somewhere else. Ultimately, the store lacks focus. It's a shop of all trades, master of none. read more

Beautiful pharmacy/boutique in a central location in Dumbo. The service was super-friendly and they had everything that I was looking for. Great spot to pick up your presciptions, high-end shampoo, and a cute little gift for a friend all in one location. The store itself is pretty nice and I appreciated that everyone in the store portion, including the security guard were wearing the masks. The staffer at the pharmacy counter was helpful and was wearing her mask as well. As I pay I see the pharmacist in the same room a few feet away (but also it's not separated by plexiglass just located a few feet back with NO MASK. I was pissed for everyone there who were wearing masks and than the pharmacist could not be bothered to wear the mask. It's so unfair that the pharmacist isn't wearing a mask while subjecting other employees to be exposed. I did not get my prescriptions filled and until the pharmacist wears a mask, I certainly will not fill my prescriptions here. It's so backwards to me that a medical professional HANDLING medication to potentially very sick people not follow the same procedures as everyone else in the store. Super disappointed. read more

This is such a great alternative to the nearby abysmal CVS on Henry Street. Admittedly, this is a more upmarket drugstore, with more expensive products. They have great customer service, really unique cards and nicknacks, nice makeup selection and so forth. The pharmacy is super friendly and on top of their game. read more

After moving to brooklyn heights I was having an issue locating a particular prescription. I called around the area and crossed some crazy pharmacies but then I called City Chemist and they were great! Other pharmacies in area wouldn't tell me if they had prescription in stock over the phone but City Chemist did and was a relief as I walked into 5 pharmacies no luck. Chris at City Chemist is a great pharmacist!!!!! The store has great little gifts and a Laura Mercier counter! This is great store and definitely my new pharmacy. read more

I LOVE this little shop, and I hope I never have to deal with one of the big chain drugstores again. City Chemist reminds me of the pharmacy we used to go to in the town where I grew up - I didn't think places like it even existed anymore. Their selection of everyday products may be more limited than the megastores, but they have the essentials, their prices are reasonable, they're open on the weekends (many indie places aren't), AND they deliver. The pharmacists are so helpful and kind, and the women who staff the front of the store always offer just the right level of service - friendly and attentive without being overly pushy or sales-like. As long as I live nearby, this is where I'll be going for all my pharmacy needs. read more

He actually called us a few days after we filled a prescription (that was prescribed for migraines with only two tablets) to tell us he was running out and had put some aside for us because he "couldn't stand the thought of someone getting a migraine and not having the medication". Rather, this is a thoughtfully stocked store that is a pleasure to browse and shop in--far better than the local CVS and Rite Aid (don't get me started on how horrible that place is). Used to be 5 stars. Sadly, service at this pharmacy has eroded steadily over the last year. I've tried to support a local business but lately I have to wait in the store for 15 minutes or more EVERY TIME while they fix the billing on my prescription. Staring at overpriced cosmetics I'm not stupid enough to buy when they are a 1/3rd of the price at Sephora down the block while being harassed by the make-up ladies does not make me happy. The pharmacy men make the pharmacy women do the re-billing and the women are pissed off and bitchy at me for the whole transaction because it's a hassle. Way too much drama and they waste my time EVERY time. I tried. I really tried. But now I'm transferring my prescriptions to the CVS on Henry Street and Love Lane because they are polite professionals who understand how to bill prescriptions. I heartily recommend you avoid this Pit of Despair. Update: After refusing to process my refill over the phone and arguing with me about how it should be billed (!?!), she called me back today to "...see if I needed any help completing your refill." Yes, I needed your help YESTERDAY when I ASKED you to help me and you were a total BITCH. You lost my business and NOW you want to know how you can help? Today, our pediatrician phoned in a prescription for our daughter. City Chemist delivered a liquid version of the unconstituted version of the antibiotics we needed. My doctor's office made the mistake and never specified unconstituted--so what did David, the pharmacist do? He sent over another one, free of charge. CVS was fine, but I got tired of waiting in the lines, was getting robo-calls a bunch, and it didn't workout when I needed to wait when either of my children needed a prescription filled. And, 1x they told me they couldn't get a medication I needed at all. That's when CVS actually recommended I go to a "private" pharmacist, mentioning City Chemist. I went there and now I'm addressed by name, was taken care of within a minute, they ordered the medication other pharmacists couldn't even get and had it same day, and they deliver to my home! When you've got a sick kid, you don't want to be running out to a pharmacist or waiting in line-- especially when it's an ear infection and they're screaming. That's why I recommend City Chemist. I've never left a review before but I felt I had to due to the amazing experience I had today! I was around the Montague store and called to see if they carried a Bobbi Brown corrector, they said they didn't have it, but volunteered to call the DUMBO store to see if they carried it. They called me back in under two minutes and told me that their store in DUMBO did indeed carry it, and they even offered to send it to the store I was closest to immediately! They absolutely pulled through for me, and called me as soon as I got the product in the Montague store. What amazing staff!! Neighborhood pharmacies don't get any better than City Chemist. The service here is above and beyond the call of duty. I've been shopping here since the week they opened and I have never entered the store without some one greeting me with a smile and a friendly hello. They know you by name in the pharmacy and they have an amazing collection of innovative greeting cards, skin products, candy, kids toys, and a pretty epic fish tank. In a city that seems to be overrun by chain stores where you never see the same cashier twice, City Chemist acts like they are grateful for the business and they return the love twice over.
