I've never left a review before but I felt I had to due to the amazing experience I had today! I was around the Montague store and called to see if they carried a Bobbi Brown corrector, they said they didn't have it, but volunteered to call the DUMBO store to see if they carried it. They called me back in under two minutes and told me that their store in DUMBO did indeed carry it, and they even offered to send it to the store I was closest to immediately! They absolutely pulled through for me, and called me as soon as I got the product in the Montague store. What amazing staff!! Their store is beautiful and they're very knowledgeable about their products. read more

I took my business to this local pharmacy because I wanted to support small business in my neighborhood. I was a pharmacy tech myself for four years so am very familiar with how pharmacies work. My prescription was for 60 tablets, and the pharmacist said that they only had 40 but that as soon as they had more in, they would back fill the remaining 20. I just called the pharmacy to check on this status and not only was I met with a gruff and rude man, I was told that they did not owe me anything. This is not what was told to me when I left my script with them, as I obviously would never have been OK with not getting the total amount at some point in the future. They were unprofessional, rude and liars. Not only will I not be bringing my business back here again, I will tell as many people I know to stay away also. Disgusting behavior for a professional where you work so closely with people. read more

City Chemist is a much needed and appreciated asset to Brooklyn Heights. A valued part of the neighborhood!

I've gone in this shop 3 times and every time the service has been remarkably bad. Today I waited at the register for a long time but there was no one there, and no one working anywhere in the front of the store. After searching around I finally found 2 people chatting behind the wall in the pharmacy. When I asked if they could ring me up they acted like I was asking for a favor, didn't apologize for having no one working at the register, and one of them grumbled something about how they were working. I have to beg a store to let me pay them enormous amounts of money for shampoo? This store is so awful that I'm honestly shocked that the high end brands they carry still choose to sell to them. read more

Our family loves this place. So nice to have a family run pharmacy that cares about it's customers. We are always greeted with a genuinely friendly hello by the front staff and the pharmacists know us by name. They bend over backwards in dealing with the insurance companies and doctors. They have an excellent assortment of products and always make excellent and knowledgeable recommendations. They have even saved us a few dr's visits by showing us some over the counter remedies for minor issues. Plus, they have a beautiful African Cichlid tank that I am very envious of. Great place, highly recommend! read more

City Chemist is so much more than a local drugstore. Where else in Brooklyn Heights can you stop in for aspirin and leave with a Laura Mercier lipstick or a Caudalie moisturizer? The staff is super-friendly and extremely helpful. They have a well-edited selection of beauty products and decorative tchotchkes. While space restricts the number of drugstore items they can carry, the atmosphere is welcoming and worth a visit. I'd much rather support a local business whenever I can. read more

The security guard, a man, had a very nasty attitude with me from the minute I walked in he was leering at me and following me around the store, then he said something very insulting to me. I had never been to this place before and tried like two testers which said "try me" on them.....WAS prepared to buy something......this dude is acting like he is doing me a favor or I owe him something. I've encountered a few people like this man over the past few months and really, enough. I have never in my life done anything to him and his manner and approach are extremely offensive and he is out of place. I'm furthermore seeing a pattern of some kind of entitlement among men like him, like they have a "right" to women.....reacting out of their own; personal vindictiveness not because of anything I or anyone else did, or power and intimidation.....or whatever but it's not f***ing acceptable. I never did anything to this man to justify the extreme hostility he had toward me. read more

Excellent, friendly, and very helpful service from this neighborhood-oriented pharmacy. Couldn't ask for more!

Absolutely terrible customer service. A couple women who work there have a terrible attitude and are incredibly rude with customers. I live in the neighborhood and I will not shop there again. read more

Adorbable place with great selection. Be careful, it is really easy to go in for soap and walk out with bags of products!

City chemist made me a fan! :)) we were visiting the area and just happened to pop into this quaint little neighborhood business and to our surprise we couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. The friendly and very helpful pharmacist there named Demetri gave us the most outstanding service. Definitely pleased with our whole experience there. read more

Today marks the 2nd bad (and anti-gay) customer service experience I had at this store - and with the same sales associate who, unfortunately, was the only person working the Cosmetics Area again. When I approached the area, her back was turned toward me and she was applying mascara on herself in the mirror. She clearly saw me in the reflection (standing there waiting for assistance), and yet kept doing her make-up - and made me wait until she was finished! She then turned around, and in a very aloof manner, asked me if I needed help - knowing full well that was why I was standing there. When I told her the brand of tinted moisturizer I wanted to sample, she looked at me as if I had 5 heads, and then rudely made a point of correcting me as to the actual name of the product. Still looking at me like I was strange, she then sauntered over to where the product was, and was clearly acting as if she were doing me a favor going to get it. At that point, her overall demeanor and vibe were so unprofessional I told her to just forget it, and immediately exited the store. I ended up going to Ricky's, in Cobble Hill, where they are gay-friendly - and always glad to help. read more

Ditto on THE WORST customer service. As a loyal customer since they opened, I bought a Father's Day gift for my husband on June 19, but bc we couldn't celebrate the day I saved the packages (soap, lotion and a wallet $140 total) for his birthday in mid Sept. When he opened the wallet box, inside was a cheap 3"x5" tray that read "You're Number One." I returned it immediately w a copy of my MC statement statement showing them the $143 charge, explaining how they charged me for the wallet but wrapped the wrong box. (It was Father's Day so I'm sure they were busy in the back with lots of wrapping going on.) The manager's first reply, "How do I know you really paid for the wallet. We probably rang up the $15 tray." When I explained that I was a loyal customer, a long time resident of Brooklyn Heights community, and that I had no reason to make this up, all she had to say was "Well, you don't have the receipt so there's nothing I can do." After insisting on speaking to an owner, they offered me a $25 credit, suggesting I call the credit card company and get a receipt. That's exactly what I did, and it took 30 days to get. When I went back today to show her the receipt and explain I'd like a full refund for the wallet, which I paid for but never got bc of their error, her first response was "We settled this already so I don't know why you're coming back here with this." Why? Because they were insisting that a loyal customer pay the price of THEIR mistake. That's why! I've spent so much money in that overpriced store on gifts, makeup etc, and they were willing to lose a good customer over $60?? WTF! How stupid can you be. They should have been apologizing to me and happy to make me happy after their screw up! After some back and forth, she finally relented with much attitude "I'll give you a $50 credit but you have to use it in a week's time." Will only go there in a pinch from now on. read more
