We decided to place a carry out order for City Barbecue. I opted for the Brisket Sandwich with two sides and a drink. I chose Mac + Cheese and Greens for my sides, and a lemonade for the drink. Everything tasted good, warm, flavorful. The Mac + Cheese is never baked, and I honestly feel like if they threw it in the oven for about 2 minutes on broil to get that baked brown toppings, they would really have a winner on their hands with that Mac + Cheese. My family member opted for the 1/2 slab of ribs, and made it meal which included Texas Toast, Two Sides, and a Drink. We get all the way home only to find out they forgot the Texas Toast. This is the reason for the 3 stars, because forgetting the Texas toast was a big disappointment to us. Not only that, but trying to reach someone at their restaurant is impossible. I attempted to call the restaurant twice. The first time someone picked up and then hung up. The second call I placed, I held for 20 minutes waiting for someone to eventually take the call, but they never did. ‍I'm a bit disappointed because my family member really wanted that Texas toast and we paid for it.‍ I ended up sending a message through their app in hopes that someone will eventually bother to respond one day. Nevertheless, if you like barbecue and you're not too picky, City BBQ is always good enough, in my opinion, to hit the spot. UPDATE: City Barbecue got back to my email and not only apologized, but added a $5 credit for them forgetting our Texas Toast. WAY TO GO CITY BARBECUE!!!! While I go to several locations around central Ohio, (and they are all great) but the Gemini location stands out because of the staff. I can tell they are lead by great leaders. I normally don't come here unless someone else asks me to pick something up. But the last couple times I noticed the staff here have a problem with TVC a well known retail employee problem known as Thinly Veiled Contempt for customers. Answering questions with a smarta** tone and with mocking responses or followups. I think this is the result of younger emps sitting around all day hanging out instead of doing work. Both of our orders were made incorrectly and the staff was rather rude about it so we asked for a refund and left.

I ordered the two meat sampler and it came with two sides and a piece of Texas toast. I didn't know that it came with Texas toast and I ordered a piece of cornbread. It was way too much bread and the cornbread was just okay. The Texas toast however, was delicious. I got the potato salad and baked beans and unfortunately I didn't care for either. The potato salad was too creamy and lacking in flavor and the baked beans were just a tad too sweet. Next time I'll try something different. The meat made up for all the shortcomings. I got the brisket and the ribs- for a charge up. I preferred the original bbq sauce over the others. All in all I enjoyed this meal and will be giving this another shot. read more

I used to live in Columbus 15 years ago and have been a huge fan of City BBQ ever since. When we come back to Ohio to visit family, a stop at City BBQ and Graeter's Ice Cream is something we always look forward to. I've told so many people in Dallas that City BBQ has the best pulled pork I've ever had--perfectly smoked, full of flavor, and never needing sauce. My definition of amazing barbecue is that its smoked to perfection and doesn't need sauce. I was so excited to visit this week and couldn't wait to share it with my family. Unfortunately, this visit was a major letdown. I ordered the three-meat combo (pulled pork, pulled chicken, and brisket), and everything was disappointing. The pulled chicken was ice cold--like straight-out-of-the-fridge cold. The pulled pork and brisket were room temperature at best, dry and completely tasteless. I didn't feel safe eating any of it, honestly. My son's ribs were hot (the one saving grace), but my wife's pulled pork sandwich was also cold. I've always held City BBQ to a high standard, but this experience fell so far short of what I remembered. I don't know if this was an off day or a bigger issue, but it was very disappointing. Parking: I have been here several times and never had a problem finding a parking spot. They have ample parking. Staff: There was no wait when I arrived around 1:30pm on Thursday, I walked right to the front and was greeted by 3 employees who were very friendly and willing to help. The new Polaris location for City Barbeque is convenient to my work, and this is a good spot for Friday lunches with workmates. I have been very disappointed with my local store's quality for some time, and have stopped eating there completely. This location has proven to be better, cleaner, more organized and better quality. The lunch crowd is light enough to where you can usually find a good seat, and turnaround times for orders is perfect for work lunch. My new choice here has been the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, paired, of course with greens as a side. I think this sandwich is light on sauce, so i typically add some Texas Pete and a little brushfire sauce. Very tasty. While I do feel as quality has declined for City BBQ, this location has consistently been great and worth the visit. read more

Tried City Barbeque when I was craving some comfort food. As far as the main food, the meats, the chicken leg & thigh and beef brisket were very tasty. I love that they have all the sauce choices from sweet to spicy to choose on your own. We loved the spicy bushfire sauce most. I ordered the chicken leg & thigh which came with texas toast and my husband ordered the two meats, choosing the beef brisket and chicken leg & thigh. We then got the 3 side sampler as our side dish to share. It was definitely enough for 2 people. We got the hush puppies, corn pudding, and mac & cheese. The corn pudding was by far my favorite, so good! The hush puppies were crunchy and warm, perfectly savory. The mac & cheese had to be the worst part of the meal. City Barbeque is usually five star quality,. First for the sides. I ordered baked beans, coleslaw, and collard greens. Tell if the sides were definitely five stars. The beans never disappoint. I could just eat the meat in the beans as the meat is very tasty. The greens are well seasoned and delicious. Now for the wing. Can't get better smoked then later fried, no batter wing. However, what almost destroyed the wings was the saltiness. Half the salt would have made these wings some of the best around. Don't let this stop you from trying these well executed. You need to try the chicken. Until recently I have always ordered either the pulled pork or the brisket. I didn't realize they had chicken. I ordered the half chicken and I was very impressed. The chicken comes from Gerber's Amish Farm Chicken. They are raised on an all-vegetarian diet. City Barbeque smokes the chicken and the end result is what chicken should taste like. Their new location isn't as large and it is hard to get to with all the ridiculous traffic. The parking lot is tricky to maneuver in especially if you have a beast of a vehicle. That's frustrating, still can't understand why they relocated. Anyway the service is fantastic. We had a large party & Jon (pronounced Yawn,) worked quickly to clean a table. He took into consideration that we had a wheelchair. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He is a gem! Anyway the food is great! Decided to try out a different City BBQ than my normal one. This one is located in a small strip off Gemini Place. It is a little smaller than a normal one but has new decor. Same ordering process. I got the brisket, baked beans, potato salad and corn pudding. The brisket was just a little dry but still had a great bark on it. Got the brush fire BBQ sauce which has a little kick to it. The baked beans have a great sauce with them. The corn pudding is some of the best around, just a little dry today. Love the potato salad which taste super fresh and is one of the few in town made with mayonnaise instead of mustard. Nice crunchy celery and red potatoes. Yummy. Service is super quick. read more

I am always concerned about BBQ places that have multiple locations because it is hard to duplicate BBQ. The restaurant was clean and I liked the atmosphere. I like BBQ that you order in line and they get it ready for you while you and you pick it up and take it back to your table. I ordered the sampler which had pulled pork, brisket, sausage, and turkey. It came with two sides and I selected fries and gumbo. I wanted to try the ribs so I order two ribs to add to the meal. To start with, there was a lot of food. They said the sampler was for 1 or 2 people and there were plenty. All of it was great. The ribs and brisket were my favorite but the rest was just as good. The fries were hot and fresh. The gumbo had some great flavor. I had a hard time deciding on the sides and they gave me samples of several things. Everyone was very friendly, the good was great, and it was a good price. The turkey was dry not seasoned good, the cornbread my mom spit it out it was so gross taste like dirty faucet water idk. CONSISTENCY! That's important. Food, cleanliness, service. I know exactly what I can expect every time. The BBQ is not Columbus best, but Top 3 for sure. I love the fact that they have smoked turkey. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. Most Columbus BBQ shacks only do turkey wings. I think it's important that you are presented with the meat naked of any sauce. Most of you will say DUH, but know there are plenty that don't. It stands up on its own. Love that smoke ring and bark. Everyone of the meats have been wonderful. Check out Tuesday "Buck a Bone" night on ribs. If it's busy, watch the weigh. They have shorted me twice, but corrected it immediately, once while there, and once from home on my scale(next visit). The prices are always right in line for BBQ. I would be re-miss if I didn't stand up and salute CBBQ for their Veterans Day special for veterans. I usually join a group of vets here after a big morning of ceremonies. Handshakes, and sincere Thanks from the staff to all vets. Decorations make it feel special. They have even taken care of a few of our spouses as well. I think I have had almost all the side dishes. I have my favorites. I love that the green beans are so well seasoned. The baked beans have chunks of brisket in each portion. The mac n cheese is creamy. Sauce.. Regular, Sweet, and Brushfire are all kept in a warming station out at the customer condiment station. That is a HUGE bonus in my every opinion. Adding cold condiments to hot food is a no no. I think of it as lazy. You have to ask for the honey mustard bbq sauce. I was never sure why it isn't out front. It's my wife's favorite. We have tried others in shacks, stores, and restaurants. This is consistently her favorite. Myself, I usually get a bottle of Brushfire to go also. I think most will enjoy the condiment station, with the tool box of packets, or the troughs of pickles(blech). Tip for you- If taking a sandwich home, ask for the bread on the side, so it's not soggy from all that moist meat juice. Next Tip- Get a dessert. Visited this afternoon after a co-worker gave City BBQ high praise. When you enter you walk up to the counter and place your order. After your order is placed you go and get your drink, and return to the counter to pick up your food. My food, and my wife's, showed up at about the three minute mark which was impressive. The dining room is tastefully decorated, clean, spacious, and well-lit with lots of natural light coming in through the many windows (a nice patio is available as well). My only knock would be on the incredibly loud chairs being moved about on the concrete floor which is a common problem with this type of floor. Not the end of the world. Just a little annoying if you are sensitive to sound. Unfortunately for me, quite a few young kids were dining here today. Most of said kids were loud and unruly and the sound does carry pretty easily. I don't like kids too much, and admittedly would trade mine for a pack of cigarettes on any given day (and I don't even smoke). Ok, enough of that... on to the food... The food was "good" overall. My pulled chicken was GREAT, as well as my wife's chicken (leg and thigh). Her chicken was seriously a 10. Flavorful, juicy, and tender. The available BBQ sauces on the table were ok - there are four to choose from. We both settled on the sweet BBQ and found it to be the best. While the meat was off the chart, the sides were all average. If the sides were as good as the meat, they would really have something here. Between the two of us we had the following: green beans, fries, Texas toast, mac and cheese, and hush puppies; none of these proved to be amazing, but weren't offensive either. One issue I definitely had, and is the same one I have at Panera, is that they use real forks, spoons, bowls, and plates... sounds great doesn't it? It is until you have to go put your dirty silverware in a big bowl of water with twenty other pieces of dirty silverware. Putting my dirty plates in a small tote with other peoples dirty dishes is just kind of gross as well. This is a pet peeve of mine and may not be offensive to others. I recommend that they have workers clear the table for you when you are done, or provide plates, bowls, and plasticware that can be thrown away. I probably wouldn't return due to just not being wowed. Not bad, just not great. If you like this type of establishment try Mission BBQ in Parma for an amazing experience. Whilst my family and I were dining at this restaurant, a fight erupted betwixt an irate doordash driver and one of the employees who accused him of attempting to abscond with other patrons dinners. It was a bit of a struggle to fit bites into my mouth while two large men wrestled each other into the tables right next to me, but I managed to power through my meal thanks to how fantastic it was. The brisket was smoked to perfection and the macaroni and cheese was moist and flavorful.
