We had a beautiful wedding at Citron this past weekend! Our original wedding plans fell through due to COVID-19 and we needed to quickly find a place where we could host an intimate ceremony with just the closest family and friends and feel safe. The outdoor private event space at Citron overlooks a lake and is idyllic and magical for a ceremony. Charles (the owner) immediately made me feel like this he would take care of us-- he sat down with me, listened to our menu preferences, and even offered to help with details like flowers and decor. Being that I had only approached him a week before the wedding, we truly appreciated his willingness to jump in and help. When we arrived we were welcomed by Charles, Susan (his wife), and Donna (his catering manager). My whole family was SO impressed by the food, the atmosphere, the hospitality, flowers, and especially the gorgeous and incredibly tasty naked wedding cake that they made for us in-house. Susan was so kind to record our ceremony on her iPhone and to have a special bridal face mask made for me (yellow satin with flowers). Donna went above and beyond, fluffing my dress, gathering my things, and making sure I was comfortable. Even our photographer could not stop raving about the setting and the views. This place has good food, good setting, etc. But the problem is the expectations when you charge a certain price for your food. Food is good, but not good enough for their price point. Setting is classy, but when there is so much noise, the whole ambience is kinda not. Then there are these little quirks... Valet is kinda forced on you since there is no real convenient parking. There is plenty of parking space at the mall area but the restaurant is off on its own and few street parking spaces are all you have. You would think a classy joint charging 30-40 an entree would provide free valet, but alas no. Especially when there are plenty of free parking spots, so all the valet has to do is just park the car and retrieve it with no parking cost for the restaurant, this should just be a courtesy service. A classy restaurant won't charge $6 for valet service in a suburban setting. Service was ok. Nothing fancy. We were celebrating a birthday, but waiter never bothered to ask. They did accommodate my kids, so I can't complain, but then again this is a bare minimum, and you can't be a classy joint that wants to charge a classy penny by doing bare minimum. read more

I am pretty pleased with my recent visit to this establishment. Husband & I are big Foodies and we enjoy a spot with a nice ambiance. This spot definitely has that date night charm, warm comfortable vibe. It was a pretty full house considering Covid restrictions but still spaced out & pretty comfortable. So about the food! We ordered quite a few things... Appetizers: Brussel Sprouts & Cauliflower, California Sushi Roll, & Butter Nut Truffle Mac & Cheese. Sushi roll & Brussels were both good, definitely solid. The Mac & Cheese however was nothing special, lacked flavor and could use some texture. For entree, we both ordered the chillean sea bass. It was great...accompanied with a delicious cauliflower mash (could have fooled me for regular potatoes) and asparagus. The fish was cooked perfectly and I squeezed a lemon over it which complimented it even more. Clean yet flavorful, nothing over powering. We also ordered the crab cake which was just...ok. Simple flavor, nothing memorable. Overall I would definitely visit this place again. Warm staff, great service & good food. Definitely a solid restaurant that is a little more higher scale for a nice evening dinner. read more

This is my second time and I really enjoyed myself this time around! Our server was very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Even Charles the owner came by and chit chatted with us and made us feel very welcome. The sushi is soooooo good! We sat outside by the water and the view was very nice. I am seriously angry at this restaurant! What a fiasco... We made reservations for Valentine's Day, requesting a quiet, romantic table, not one of the banquettes. A few days before, we saw the special menu listed on the menu and neither of us liked the choices. We called and were told that they were having that in addition to their regular menu. Great-we liked the selections there. We arrived on time and were shown to a table smack next to another couple in a large glaringly lit room. Hardly my idea of romantic. But, at least we were not at the Sardi style banquettes so we did not say anything. The hostess brought the Valentine's menu and I handed it back to her and said that we were ordering from the regular one. She said "I am sorry but we only have the limited menu today." We had just driven more than 45 minutes to get there... But the coup de grace was that when we got home we received an email from Open Table wanting to know why we did not show up for our reservation. Talk about adding insult to injury... Needless to say, our opinion of this place is about as rock bottom now as it gets... If they issue us an apology and tell Open Table what really happened, I will delete this review. I have been there twice in the last 2 weeks, that's how good the food is, different items each time. The main courses were amazing for all of us both times, including the salmon (great flavor), steak (perfectly done and seasoned), and lamb chops (delicious). The portions were fairly large, and accompaniments were included. Everyone, myself included, were very happy with the whole meal. The service was extremely professional and attentive. The atmosphere outside on the deck overlooking the lake was breathtaking. The tables were spaced far apart - important during this Covid time - and a bottle of hand sanitizer included on each table. The staff all were wearing masks properly, and patrons indoors until seated at your table, indoor or out, requested to wear masks as well. Even the indoor tables were widely spaced. The meal was somewhat pricey, $40-55 per entree, but this included the accompaniments which makes it quite reasonable and less pricey than many comparable Baltimore restaurants. I suspect many of these positive reviews are a result of the outdoor ambiance by the lake, events with music, the bar or friends of the owner. There is no way these positive reviews are a true assessment of Citrons food which is why I go to a restaurant ... go figure. For almost $100.00 a person for dinner, I expect far better. Service was below average and the ambiance was odd listening to Jimmy Hendricks and Boston rock music from the bar while we sat in the dining area. The food however was the lowest point of the evening. You can buy far better cheese and charcuterie from a grocery store and for less money. I can't believe a restaurant with such high prices would serve packaged, cut up, baguette bread with a strait face. It was almost insulting. One appetizer was decent but had an odd sweet sauce when savory would have been better and the sushi was nothing special but twice the price. One fish dish was mostly cold and the red sweet/sour sauce was unappetizing and a poor flavor combination with squash. You would think crispy brussel sprouts would be ... crispy but they were soggy. You would think truffle fries would have ... truffle oil but they had none, no seasoning at all and burger joints have better fries. I suspect the desert wasn't made in-house but that would have been fine if the service didn't take so long. Sorry Citron, just because you charge pretentious prices with a pretentious menu doesn't make you a fine dining restaurant. Only great food does that and yours doesn't even come close! read more

Giving one star because of the owner. My girlfriend and I came specifically for happy hour, which is posted on their website and their menus. We were told they weren't having happy hour because the restaurant was closed for a private event. Fair enough. But then we were told that we were welcome to a table, and to order off the full price menu. Huh? So they won't honor the happy hour menu during their posted happy hour, but we were welcome to pay full price for things. We asked the hostess if she could verify with the owner that this was his decision, which she did and it was. This was my first experience at this restaurant and probably my last. From beginning to end, Citron crushed fine dining. The aesthetics within the restaurant and on the surrounding patios are just a hint of what you'll be experiencing throughout a meal here. The staff is so attentive that I felt like I was in Europe where formal hospitality training is rigorous. The menu made it difficult to choose, which was another great sign. Tapas light fare options ensured that everyone would be happy. I will keep coming back; the food quality matched the high bar of the lead up to the main event. Three of is had an outstanding dinner at this establishment. Starting with the valet, the service was excellent. The hostess was efficient and had a ready smile. We were lucky to have the owner give us a tour of the facilities, and we were quite impressed with how Citron can accommodate diners, as well as business meetings. The decor is modern, yet warm - top notch and quite stylish. Our dinners were exceptional - salads, scallops, chicken, and bouillabaisse. The waiter was professional and courteous, attentive to our needs and fully aware of the menu. We loved it. There are a few things you need to know before coming to this restaurant. First, they are so cheap that they charge you a surcharge for paying with a credit card (they pass this fee along to you, the consumer). Also, don't ask for bread for the table because they are too cheap not to charge you for this also. $6 for a small plate of bread. Oh and did I mention that the prices on the menu are not set prices either? They reserve the right (according to a big disclaimer printed on the back of the menu which is incredibly tacky) to raise the prices higher than what is printed on the menu at their discretion. But the coup de grace is the fact that if they don't have the ingredients to make a specific item on the menu, they'll serve it to you anyway. We ordered a blue cheese wedge salad which had no blue cheese on it. When we questioned this, we were told that the kitchen was out of blue cheese. I can think of no other reason for serving a blue cheese wedge salad without blue cheese unless the reason is to avoid missing an opportunity to make some money We had them take it off the bill and asked if they would be serving our entrees with missing ingredients as well, which we were told they weren't going to do, but I have to say my husband's $46 chicken breast was pretty tasteless and we had to ask for salt and pepper ti give it some flavor. I ordered spinach risotto for $44 which arrived lukewarm. For $44 this should have been the best pasta I had ever eaten in my life. By the time the dessert menu came we decided they weren't getting any more of our money and asked for the check and left. We had expected to spend a fabulous New Years Eve here. read more

Citron proves the theory you have to visit a restaurant twice before you really know how good it is. The first visit was perfection. The food, the beautiful room we were seated in, the service and the price was reasonable for a high end classy dinner. For Valentine's, my wife wanted to go back and we were both excited. We arrived 5 minutes early and had to wait around 15 minutes to be seated. There was clearly some issue going on as many people were waiting in the lobby. They said everyone arrived at once. Not the worst thing in the world but not a good start. We were seated and it was in a terrible spot, our view was pretty much just looked out to where people walked. Literally the worst spot in the restaurant. Ok not the worst thing but another strike. The waiter introduces himself and gives us two options for water, sparkling or flat. I was wondering if tap was an option but didn't want to say anything since it was Valentines and was ok with splurging on water so we said flat. After he leaves, a man comes by and pours tap water in our glasses. That was ok and I was just fine with that. But the waiter comes back and sees the water and moves the glasses off and pours the fancy 6 dollar water in. Fast forward a few minutes later and the other guy with the tap comes back and tops it off with tap water. I mean at this time this is almost comical and it just felt like the service for the whole night was off. Wait staff were running around, looking over our shoulder and it was just strange. The tap water guy and waiter I believe actually got into a little argument at some point but anyway it was again just an indication of how the service was off. This is what frustrated me the most. We ordered the Brussel sprouts as a side item for our steaks and my wife ordered a second glass of wine but wanted to change it to a Pinot Noir. We already had a cheese plate coming and salad, but they brought out the Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer. Not cool, it was clearly for the steaks we ordered. And the waiter suggested a certain Pinot Noir that he liked (my wife and I didn't want to ask how much it was since it was a special night so we didn't). At the end of the night we found out it was 30 dollars a glass. Geez. Our meal ended up twice as much as we thought it should be. I just felt ripped off and conned, you try to be nice and it ended up costing us. The food was outstanding, especially the steaks. But did they have to rip us off like that? It seemed they were trained to push anything that would add to the cost instead of giving all the suggestions. You trust the staff when you go to places. The staff at Citron let me down. read more

Beware of racial profiling! I went to this restaurant for an event and couldn't wait to take.my husband for dinner. We checked the website and there was plenty of availability. We were dressed business casual but as we approached the hostess she asked if we had a reservation, we said no and she said they were full for the night with no availability except for the bar. We left and checked online there were lots of tables. We called the restaurant directly and the same hostess answered and said they had tables available. I said we were just there but you said there were no tables. You profiled us, made an assumption and turned us away. She said there was an issue with servers. Right! Great customer service and atmosphere. But thats about it I order the 18oz steak bone medium well and it was served rare. I sent the steak back after it as bleeding on my plate and it was again returned rare. The waiter also acknowledged the steak being rare the second time it was brought back but didn't offer anything else at that point i decided to take it home and finish cooking it myself. Nope we got there at 12:45 and we were told brunch was over and they handed us a dinner menu. DINNER ? At 12:45? Not even a lunch menu. It was dead in there so they took advantage and tried to capitalize on that and force people to order from a dinner menu to make more money. Prices are outrageous for the food (if it was worth it I wouldn't mind paying ) but Sunday was pure greed. Lobster bisque brought out ice cold and it's $25. No apology, nothing. I have mixed feelings with my visit this time. The food was delicious: I had the white bean soup, osso bucco, and cheesecake for dessert. The ambiance as usual was very nice. We got there a little after 6pm (our resi was for 6:30) and we were seated promptly. BUT .... after our main course, things started to decline. The cheesecake was served too cold (should be served room temp). It was like a rock on the inside. Then, I ordered "an american coffee, black with sugar on the side" ... The waiter (Brian - very nice guy). repeated it back and walked off. He comes back moments later with the coffee, overflowing at the brim. I instantly smelled liquor. I haven't had a drink in years but I'm sober, not dead - so I know what booze smells like. To be sure, I tasted it and had my guest taste it. Booze for sure. So when I asked Brian, he said "the barista makes an American coffee with Whiskey". (?!?!???!?!) Wha?? #1. If there is anyone out there who has heard of an alcoholic american coffee please let me know. I know there's an Irish coffee that has Whiskey and Kahlua in it - but thats it. #2. I ordered it "black with sugar". That should have been a HUGE clue that I just wanted brewed coffee. Again, if anyone puts sugar in their whiskey, please let me know. That might have been something I would have considered trying in my glory days. But it just sounds nasty. #3. Lastly, he should have confirmed whether or not I wanted the 21+ version of American coffee (that I've never heard of in my life). Asking goes a long way. I had the owner come over so I could fill him in (he already had the heads up from the waiter). There seemed to have been a disagreement to whether a boozy American coffee actually existed. Even if they made it up last week, double check with the customer! It also felt as though I was being shamed for not knowing any better. Ordering coffee should not be such an ordeal. It all comes down to staff training. I'm surprised my water didn't have vodka in it because that's "just how they do it at Citron" . Thankfully the food is consistently delicious. What a cute restaurant?! I first visited this spot as a guest at a private birthday function and we absolutely loved the food, drinks and personalized service that we received from the management at Citron. it's a little ways from downtown Baltimore but they offer great food, great drinks, and excellent patio and superb service. S/O and I loved it so much that we decided to return for dinner and we were not disappointed. While the interior is beautifully designed, I love taking advantage of the outdoor space (weather-permitted). It overlooks a beautiful lake and it's the perfect atmosphere to just sit and have a well-prepared dinner while viewing the sunset. They also off weekday happy hours and occasional live music. Major kudos to management for consistently providing amazing service. We will definitely be back soon :) read more

This is a very "classy casual" place where mature professionals of all levels can come to unwind. The first time I came was a year ago with a Meetup group. They had a reggae band performing outside during happy hour and it was awesome; the weather, the lake, the music and the very relaxed atmosphere of people was refreshing. The second time I came was after a jog in the neighborhood. I felt a bit embarrassed to come in (around 7pm on a Tuesday, not many people there at all), and asked the host if it was cool because my friend and I were in running clothes. The host was very friendly and waved away my concerns. My friend and I sat inside and were treated to some delicious food, of which I cannot describe in name or detail but my tastebuds still tingle from the memory of their ecstasy. My friend went to the restroom and came back and told me "the weather guy on the news was in there"...aka good ole Marty Bass. I didn't see him but thought that was funny. The photos attached to this review are from an event I went to this week (August 8, 2018) at The Cove at Citron, the building adjoining Citron that seems to be more of a gathering place area. Tickets were only $10 and included a drink ticket. The event was hosted by Baltimore Style Magazine and it was great! Again, a great mixture of people and backgrounds, but certainly classy but not overly flashy. I won a raffle prize of a cutting board, had a psychic provide me with generic advice (no additional charge, which I was surprised about), chatted with a few other patrons and enjoyed some fancy looking cheese stuff. Went for Father's Day. It was a nice day and we sat outside. The restaurant is lovely, and the outdoor seating is nice. The service was friendly, but not particularly prompt. Our apps were tasty, and came promptly, but there was a really long delay before our entrees came, and they were just "ok", both my scallops and shrimp were over cooked, the sauce, described on the menu as lemon butter had a cloyingly sweet taste which was a bit off putting. The pasta seemed to be fresh pasta, so that was probably the best part. For the hype I'd previously read and the prices, I was pretty underwhelmed, not likely to recommend to others or to return. read more

Terrible from start to finish. To call this establishment a ripoff is an insult to ripoffs. The place was empty but "they had no indoor tables available." Sat us in the covered outdoor area which was like a sauna. The waiter was incredibly smug and insincere. He told us the stone crab appetizer ($40) was one of his favorites and had 5 or 6 claws and a centerpiece of crabmeat. It came with 3 claws which had no flavor. Was he lying or misinformed about his favorite appetizer? The sea bass had no flavor. We did not get our water glasses refilled once. The waiter kept encouraging drinks and desert. Worth the drive From the time to pull up to valet, until the time you leave - you are the most important person there. The valets are sweet. The hostess was so nice. She walked us around the restaurant to give us a choice of seating describing each atmosphere. Ever had that before? Usually it's some snotty high school girl who can't think without help and her computer. Wait staff is completely versed on the menu and will actually admit they need to go confirm if it's above them with my question instead of BSing it. The owners both presented themselves. One introduced themselves and welcomed you. His wife came after to ask for feedback on improvement. Clean, comfortable and beautiful views of the lake. I can't imagine when the deck opens how great that view will be over the lake. Wine list amazing. Tired of places with only domestics except Australia. Wine snobs HATE mass produced headache wines from there. Even offered to bring me another choice when I wasn't completely thrilled with the first taste. It had to breathe and after ten was great. Food OMG love love love it Presentation was perfect Temperatures were on point Flavors exploded in our mouths Hudson Valley foie Gras with Duck Confit I'd prefer cherry over blackberry with this but just me Beef short rib melted in my mouth and the sweet cream polenta was a nice taste behind it. Dessert are great - if your a chocolate fan Otherwise only one choice and that's cheesecake I finished with an ice wine and coffee instead of dessert. We've already made our reservation for return Great job Baltimore needs a great place and we've achieved it. It's worth the drive people. Shrimp Spring Rolls, Jumbo Sea Salt Mussels, and Artisan Cheese & Bread Plate - All delicious!! Cheese Cake - Extraordinary! Light and fluffy with a perfect crust. This is a beautiful, classy restaurant and I was very impressed. Out for my partner's birthday, I decided to take her somewhere different. After tons of research I found the brand new restaurant Citron. From the moment we walked in we were greeted kindly and shown to Our seats. Later bread followed with a tray of delicious butter, one salted with pesto and the other sweet. The decor in Citron is breathtaking and the food was amazing. I had the crab cake and my partner the salmon. It was perfectly proportioned and mouthwatering. Don't get me started on the fois gras which melted in my mouth. I will definitely be back and hope my impression of this establishment does not change. The only down side is that in my reservations I mentioned my partner's Birthday and they didn't acknowledge it at all. That would've been the only thing to make this night perfect. read more

Dined in the bar last night. My husband got a decent burger, I chose the brisket sandwich. His burger was cooked to his liking, but my brisket was mostly inedible fat. They must have used the point cut to make this because of all the fat within the meat. Seriously, left most of what was on the bun on the plate. When asked how everything was, the server apologized and took the plate away. Knowing that C. Levine was walking around the dining room, I thought that may be he'd come over. Nothing was said. I went for a bridal shower, so we had a catered menu from Citron, but it was delicious! The private event space was absolutely gorgeous, with little details making it exceptional (fresh flowers in the bathroom, luxury soaps). The venue is new and has been arranged with an artful and modern touch. The staff was beyond attentive and helpful, at times almost hovering they were so willing to help. The food was fresh and flavorful. An omelette station, latkes, assortment of pastries and fruit, parfaits, and waffles with freshly whipped cream were all delicious. The dessert buffet was imaginative, with cheesecake balls, cupcakes, spice nut cakes and more. Overall, it could not have been a nicer venue, staff or food. Only reason not getting five stars is because while the food was good, it wasn't truly original or stunning. But the venue more than made up for it! read more

This is a great new restaurant to try at the quarry. Dropped our younger son off at 5pm, so had a very early reservation. We were the first table seated in our section. Our server, Courtney, was very friendly and helpful. She made great suggestions. We had the lobster bisque which was excellent, my wife had the kale salad which she enjoyed. I had the sea bass, and she had the duck. Both were very well prepared and tasty. The only disappointment was my wife didn't like the Cosmo, but that's not a food issue. By the time we were finished, the restaurant had filled and and look ready for a busy night. Being a new place, we were expecting bugs or quirks in the system, but Citron didn't have any. Susan the owners wife came over to greet us as well. Only took off a star only because the mussels did not taste or smell good.
