As most people coming here, already know about it and also there isn't many other places to eat nearby. That and because they have night with deals ($10 meat burger night ...). Big menu ... so, as usual when there is a such a large variety on the menu (seafood, salad, burgers, BBQ etc...) nothing it going to really stand out and the safest choice is burgers and fried food (hard to mess up). I got a house salad, that was sort of meh, i.e. fine but no great shakes with too many raw onions & olives. The Beyond Burger was well done and they have relish, which is a plus (many places don't have that condiment). The regular burger was good (so I was told). My son had the chicken parm, and the pasta was chewy and underdone. They have trivia night, which looks like fun There is a 3% charge to all orders if you are paying by credit card The decor is fun and there are baseball cards in the front lobby and the men's bathroom. I hope there is security watching these cards as some of them looked expensive. It was cool to see Eddie Murray baseball cards.

I'm leaving this review after making multiple attempts to address this matter privately and…read morereceiving no response. My husband and I visited Jilly's Bar & Grill in Pikesville on February 27, 2026. This was our second visit. We ordered several items, including stuffed shrimp, a Greek salad, and wings. There was an issue with the stuffed shrimp. The only stuffed shrimp listed on the menu is tempura stuffed shrimp, yet we were served broiled stuffed shrimp. When I calmly brought this to our server's attention, she acknowledged it was a mistake and suggested placing a new order, even though the kitchen was already closed. I did not ask for the food to be remade and only intended to point out the inconsistency. Shortly after, a woman who had been seated nearby approached me and asked about my order. She later identified herself as Chrissy, the General Manager. During the conversation, she stated, "We always try to correct customers." I explained that I believed the issue was with the menu, not the customer. I felt the interaction was handled in a way that was dismissive and uncomfortable, especially as it took place in front of others. The food quality also did not meet my expectations. The $16 Greek salad appeared to have lettuce and olives that were not fresh to me, and the wings were dry. We left most of the food uneaten. Despite this experience, we paid our bill in full and tipped 22%, bringing our total to $160.51. I also want to share how the situation felt from my perspective. My husband and I were the only young Black couple seated among a group that appeared to include staff or management. The tone of the interaction left me feeling dismissed and disrespected. That is my personal experience. After our visit, I sent a detailed email on March 2, 2026, and a follow-up on March 9, 2026. I did not receive any response or acknowledgment. I believe most businesses deserve the opportunity to address concerns directly, which is why I reached out first. The lack of response ultimately led me to leave this review. I have not returned since and hope ownership reviews both the service experience and management approach at this location.

As others have said, this is a Black owned establishment that serves a community without many sit down options. I'm really pleased that they do a great job with service, food quality and price point. HSH doesn't have an extensive list of options, so they're able to do what they do pretty well. For appetizers, I've only had the fried green tomatoes. Pretty flavorful, especially with the sauce. In different visits, I've ordered salmon and grits, shrimp po boy, salmon and grits. All of them solid choices. At one of our "working lunches" we opted for adult beverages to take the edge off of an especially trying day lol. Sturdy drinks indeed. It's really a decent spot for a nice breakfast, brunch or lunch at a reasonable price. Definitely recommended.

I wish I had taken pictures of the food--we ordered the fish and grits, lamb chops, and a breakfast sandwich on a croissant, and everything was excellent. If you're looking for "diabetes in a cup," order the sweet tea--it's that authentic, down-south sweet tea. I would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone.

Our host recommended this establishment for terrific seafood. She was not wrong! I ordered the…read moreSeafood platter so I could try a variety- cream crab soup, jumbo shrimp, lobster tail, crab cakes, salmon. First, I am very particular about salmon. This was the best I've ever had! All excellent! My companions had the shrimp potato skins- huge and scrumptious, grilled cheese with crab, fish & chips. Portions are very generous. We all got to go containers. Service- exceptional. We were there at 2 pm, so not a rush time. Our waitress was friendly, just the right amount of attentiveness. She even laughed at my jokes :) The layout was nice, giving space between tables and even some private booths available. We didn't feel crowded and could enjoy conversation.

It's a Sunday night, dinner time, busy but no wait. Took a few minutes but got the drinks. Skipped appetizers and got straight to dinner. Kids cheese burger was truly on point and for $10 the best deal. Kids fried shrimp not bad. Wife's "fresh caught salmon" was ok, nothing special. My fish and chips...imo a disaster...breading to cod ratio was about 3:1...meaning so much batter, hardly any fish, it was a turn off. Maybe the original location is the hidden gem, but the other options in this shopping center I'd consider before dining here. Reminds me of like an upscale red lobster...but none of the delicious cheddar biscuits! I don't know, maybe we hit it at an off night, but it wasn't good nor the prices charged in relation.

This is a familiar place that updates the look and menu now and then, yet still feels like home. We often get a beet salad when it's available. Matthew's is scrumptious, with tender sweet juicy roasted beets, tasty grilled chicken, red onion slices and fresh spinach, tangy crumbled bleu cheese, and delightful candied walnuts, complimented by tart raspberry vinaigrette. By the way, it's gluten-free. We loved the rich cream of crab soup du jour, full of crab lumps and full of flavor, with a little spice from good old Old Bay. Delicious and dreamy. Their quesadillas were served a la carte as an appetizer, loaded with savory roasted chicken, heavy with a mild cheese and a lightly spicy flavorful thick red sauce, rolled in tender lightly seared flour tortillas. Generous and satisfying. Matthew's building dates from around 1862 as a station and hotel at the end of a horse-car line, before electricity! It's been through around 5 names over the years, and has been the Parsons family's Matthew's 1600 since 2004. We've felt comfortable and welcomed here for decades. It has plenty of free parking in their own lot. By the way, many of their already reasonable prices are discounted a little if you pay cash. That's a endearing way of keeping it real in Catonsville, only charging when it costs them.

I for sure thought because of the business, the food had to be good! And it was!! I got the egg roll sampler and loved it. The pasta was recommended and I was not disappointed. The salmon Victoria was supposed to come with a chèvre cheese on it but it was forgotten. We were able to flag down our waiter and inform him of the error and he went to the kitchen to get some on the side. It wasn't on it as it was intended but it was still good. I would come back--especially for the eggroll sampler.
