We just walked in here after a good hike up Little Calf Creek and we're blown away by the in-house slow smoked pork ribs. I smoke my own ribs and these were some of the best I've had anywhere. DINNER REVIEW After a long day of hiking in Zion and then driving to Escalante, we stopped at the Circle D Eatery for dinner as we had read good things about it online. When we get in, we wait about 5 minutes to get seated as no one was greeting us which I found a little odd but it's a slower town so just beware that service will be a bit slower. FOOD: The thing that jumped out at me about the menu was that they got the beef for their burgers from a local Escalante rancher so I just had to get it. I went with the avocado burger with an Asiago cheese bun (at the recommendation of the waitress), though I didn't feel like the bun added much at all. The fries that came along with it were crispy but had substance to them as well. I would come back to the Circle D Eatery if I was back in town but I wouldn't drive to come to it. read more

We were greeted by Bryce (I think is his name) when we walked in and he helped to serve us as well. I had the lemon basil chicken and it was delicious. My family and I were looking for some place to eat breakfast in Escalante on our way to Calf Creek Falls...and my the options looked bleak. To be honest, it looked sort of like a ghost town and we drove around trying to find any place that was open to eat at. So glad we stumbled upon Circle D Eatery! The service was quick, and they had a good amount of options for breakfast. The prices are a little steeper than your average Denny's but still pretty fair at about $10-12/person. Most of the dishes we ordered were pretty standard - a breakfast burrito, eggs with hash browns and bacon, and pancakes. The pancakes were SO GOOD. I was pleasantly surprised with how light and fluffy they were. They easily beat Denny's, IHOP etc. so if you're here or in the area, go with those! They're huge so I recommend sharing and ordering something else along with it if you're craving sweet and savory! read more

This is one of those places that asks you for a 20+ percent tip ( via Square or whatever)when you pay for your meal Evan though there is no table service whatsoever. You fetch your own water, cutlery, etc. the kid at the counter said he wa only making $2.50 an hour plus his share of the tips. If I am going to pay 20 bucks for a burger with no service, then I should not have to pay your staff; you should. Food ok. We stopped by this roadside restaurant after a few hours on the road, when we first arrived I was excited to try a TripAdvisor recommended place. The service was terrible, we did not feel welcome at all. They did not ask us if we wanted to order any drinks, our food order came out wrong, the food was terrible, I ordered a bbq chicken sandwich and it still had bones and skin in it, we also ordered the brisket bbq sandwich the coleslaw lacked flavor and the bun was bland, I'm not sure why it was a staff choice. The pasta salad also lacked flavor, the upside is that the fries were delicious. Staff looked very unhappy like they didn't want to be there, and on top of that they still collected an 18% tip auto grad on terrible service! More like Circle F!!! read more

Circle D is a great place to eat in Escalante (we came here for lunch and were so impressed we stopped back two evenings later for dinner). Plenty of parking, choices for high or low tables, some with view of TV with sports playing. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. They also feature a very handy counter area filled with brochures, binders, maps, tours and things to do in the area. (We took the local map with us). Very handy for us visitors to look over during a meal. The staff was very accommodating, friendly, and helpful in discussing both food and beverage options, but also things to do in the area (the waiter announced the wind and weather and visibility for Hell's Backbone to folks that were about to go there). Good selection of beverages, beers (esp local ones) and wines. They have a large selection on the menu, salads, apps, proteins (interesting fish option), vegetarian selections. We tried the burgers (great selection, nicely flavored and cooked (mine was slightly overcooked) for lunch, and the ribs for dinner (falling off the bone ribs, and great if you like smoky flavor). The fries there are really terrific - they have an interesting texture, and crispy and flavorful and and quite unique. This fry belongs on the 'top 10 fries' I have ever eaten list. We had brisket nachos, and Brisket burgers on Friday, both were great and the Chipotle Aioli for the fries was outstanding. Saturday evening we had the Porterhouse for two. Two pancakes = $9.50 at Circle D. Just plain buttermilk pancakes with syrup, no bacon, no sausage, no sides of any kind - $9.50 USD for that. To be fair, they were OK pancakes, and very big (plate-sized). The coffee was OK, and the yogurt was nothing special, overpriced too. No real maple syrup available - something I'll gladly pay extra for. I get that things cost more in the middle of the desert - Escalante is remote, and it costs money to get ingredients there. But you have to serve me something a bit more special than plain pancakes, Dannon yogurt, and aunt jemima if you want me to pay $9.50 for a bit of flour, eggs, and milk. I've had $9.50 pancakes that were worth every penny, but Circle D pancakes weren't it. The service was just OK. The server was initially slow to our table, and asked for our food orders before she offered us coffee, after we had been waiting a bit. Probably an oversight on her part, but this was just as I was learning how much the pancakes cost, so it seemed like hubris. Despite my complaints, the food and service were better than Denny's. It seems just lazy that both aren't a lot better for those prices. read more

Went twice during our visit to Escalante! First night I had the southwest burger, which was delicious, but what was more impressive is how accommodating they were. We called in a Togo other from the peekaboo trailhead because we knew we would arrive minutes after they closed. They were so kind to allow us an after closing pickup, and even let us sit to eat and brought over water. Rockford served us, even though we had all already paid and tipped the host for our orders. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience, even giving us tons hiking suggestions for our next trip! Next day went in for lunch and split the chicken club and nachos. A fabulous road-side motel, which delivers quality and thoughtful comfort way beyond traditional cheap road-side motels. The rooms have excellent wifi, microwaves, fridges, and are clean. The owners have obviously put some thought into how the modern family or single person travels. The rooms are a fair deal. The adjoining restaurant is a plus and allows you to mix and mingle with local folks. The owner lives on property. There is a communal firepit and benches to enjoy the great outdoors. Each room has it's own copy of local area hiking guidebooks and maps. It feels like home away from home. I recently stayed five nights there, extending my stay as I liked the place so well. This is a really clean, well-maintained and well-run place. You will not regret staying here. They have online booking which makes it easy to get your reservations ahead of time. I'll be a return customer there even though it is in the middle of nowhere! read more

My boyfriend ordered the bbq bacon brisket burger, it was cold by the time he got it, he tried cutting a piece of it so I could try and the bread wouldn't even cut, the brisket and burger were well done. We asked for a side salad, they put the salad on his plate and forgot the fries. My boyfriend ate a few bites before requesting a new one from a different server. That one wasn't good either so after a one bite he gave up. Didn't see my server even once until I asked someone else for the check. Worst of all, we're still hungry. There were shards of glass in my husband's beer. Not only that both the waiter and the manager knew they had a problem with glasses chipping and leaving pieces in other glasses. We were told it was because of the way they stack them and they had just checked other glasses to be used the rest of the night. They apologized but didn't offer to refund the cost of the beer or the meal. There were other problems as well but they didn't come close to being served shards of glass and being told it was because of how they stack(and presumably still stack) their glasses, We are in our 70's and for years have enjoyed eating out several times a week. Of course this was interrupted by the pandemic. To be served shards of glass on one of our first trips back inside a restaurant was horrible. I have left many reviews on social media and this is first one star I have ever left. How can a meal be worse than dangerous to eat? Zero stars would have been my choice if it were possible. You don't have to be a physician, which I do happen to be, to know that eating glass could cause serious health risk. Not to mention no social distancing in table placement-we moved our table to get some. No one we saw was wearing a mask. It is interesting to see negative reviews over this being partial self service. There is a labor shortage and they are clearly hustling doing their best. This is a small town with limited options but we were thrilled with the changes and more updated menu. We have been coming to Escalante for a few years and just tried Circle D again, after new owners took over prior to Covid. We were so pleasantly surprised, we came over here multiple times this weekend. The burgers, salads and fries were all great. I am sure tourists will love it and hope the locals offer just as much support (this might be the only date night option- come on guys, take those wives out on a date! ) Yes, prices might be a tiny bit higher than some are used to- but it was very reasonable and you can taste the difference in the quality ingredients. These are not frozen patty burgers. Coop served us both nights and was super friendly, informative and still offered great service, even with the changes of placing your order at the counter. Only suggestion would be to post restaurant hours on the door if they are going to vary from what is shown online, but again I think any variance was primarily because of a labor shortage, so we understood. read more

My sisters and I attended the Escalante Arts Festival in September 2022. We were surprised and pleased to discover a restaurant like Circle D Eatery in a somewhat remote location. The restaurant is an attractive Southwestern-style structure that blends perfectly into the rugged canyon setting. A lovely young woman greeted us, and we chose to sit out on the patio to enjoy the fresh air and views of the surrounding canyon and charming town. The chef is an experienced pro, and the menu was sophisticated and creative. Our salads were anything but ordinary---with interesting fresh greens and veggies and artistically presented.
