Only place in town open on Monday evening during the Orange phase of the pandemic. According to one of the local residents, Escalate is void of tourists in Sunday and Monday. I ordered the mushroom burger and my wife some teriyaki burger creation. Paid $36 for the privilege. No dining in, so we took our bag to the Devil's Garden to eat. Disappointing. The stuff on the burgers was just fine. But the patties - ugh. Dry. Overcooked. Someone must have thought that beef should be cooked well-done. From a public health standpoint, that may be true. But not from a taste standpoint. So bad that my wife couldn't finish hers. And she likes meat cooked more than I do. Ground beef can be both tasty and cooked well-done, but that takes a pomade. Something this chef clearly didn't learn in school. Circle D is trying to remake itself into a fine dining establishment. With reservations, lengthy waiting, etc. I wish them luck. I suspect that tourists just want something to eat. Something good to eat. They should look elsewhere. read more

Great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Lots to select from and our party of four enjoyed their meals. I could not decide what to order since the they had many options I was interested in. We drove from Vegas to Escalante to stay overnight and arrived at 8:30 pm. Luckily, we quickly discovered that restaurants closed at 9 pm. We chose Circle D and were very happy with the food and good service (even arriving within 30 min of closing). The people and food were great. They had a good variety of choices for kids and adults (and some great beer/wine choices too). If you're in Escalante, then Circle D Eatery won't let you down. read more

This place was really good. They told us ahead of time that the service would be a little bit slow because they were missing one of the servers, but it was fine. We had the grilled trout and a chicken sandwich. The grilled trout was cooked perfectly and was really moist. It was served with a side of green beans that was also good. The chicken sandwich was also tasty although the chicken was a little overcooked. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal there and would go back. Redownloaded Yelp just to give the Circle D 5 well earned,big stars. We had the BBQ brisket sandwich, turkey and avocado sandwich and the ham/pineapple/teriyaki burger. Never seen this unique combination on a burger but our companion who notoriously never gives 10/10s when we eat out said it was the best thing she could remember. The turkey and avocado was good (had a ton of turkey on it) and the BBQ brisket sandwich was food (and a steal for only $11). The pasta salad side was also great and the fries were really good and crispy (pretty sure they're double fried which is great). The pitchers of beer were also well priced. We'll certainly be back at least once more while we're here for the next few days (probably for dinner for the chicken Marsala). read more

Loved this place! We called in an order and they let us pick it up after their closing hours. We ended up staying inside to eat and they treated us so well and were so friendly. Our whole table loved the food! Most of us got different burgers with fries and our friend really loved her customized salad. I thought the cheeseburger and fries were very delicious. The meat was thick, juicy, and cooked perfectly. We loved it so much we all went back the next day! This time I got the Chicken Club Sandwich which was also very tasty. The burger was definitely my favorite though. Can't wait to go back! read more

This was a VERY welcome experience after camping. The food was notable and the beer and wine list were quite good (especially for Utah!). The wines were store brand names but reasonably priced. My husband and I both enjoyed our meals. He had the brisket sandwich and I had the avocado burger. The menu states the beef is local and even names the rancher, and boy can you taste the difference from whatever crap most restaurants have shipped in. Truly delicious burger, and "medium" was actually that - some pink, not overdone. The fries were good. And I just like that it is locally owned and going for something a cut above the rest. If we were in a city, I'd probably say 4 stars, but given this tiny town in the middle of nowhere, I am seriously impressed. read more

I went there today for dinner and turned out to be a big disappointment. First, their menu is different from the menus posted on Yelp. They no longer have fajita nachos or quesadillas on the menu. I ended up ordering the garden salad, buttered beans, fries and iced tea. All 4 items were not good. And customer service is non existent. The girl who brought me the food, told me go to the bar to get the utensils. Obviously it's not in her job description to bring the utensils. I also had get the water myself. They ask for up to 25% tip. I wonder what this tip is for? Only options for tip were 18%, 22% or 25%. Tip should be earned and should not be asked for before the service is provided. Had the green chile burger with fries. Half pound patty of what tasted liked very fresh beef and the burger was loaded! Guacamole, onions, lettuce pickles, roast Anaheim Chilies, everything fresh! Fries were thick and had a light batter, excellent! Highly recommend if you appreciate a burger. My wife had a grilled chicken ham & pineapple sandwich and enjoyed her just as much. If you find yourself driving Highway 12between Tropic and Torrey then Circle D Eatery is worth a stop. The friendly waitperson who grew-up in Boulder, UT was happy to share some local knowledge about history of the area and places of interest. This place was great! The service was exceptional and the food was pretty great too. I went on a 4 day hiking trip and stopped in while waiting to check into my motel. They probably noticed we looked pretty exhausted, the waitress gave us free water and coffee. We went back for dinner the next evening and we're promptly seated and they were kind enough to give us a pitcher of water. (Another long hike). After returning from a 3 day hiking trip, we were hungry and were considering going to a proven favorite the Outfitters for pizza, but decided to give Circle D Eatery a try. We saw just a few people sitting outside so we went up to the door where a sign said to wait to be greeted, because of the pandemic, which we understood. We waited for just over 5 minutes before a nice gal showed us to our seats. ok, we get it, sometimes you have to wait. We got our menus, but then waited and waited for our waiter to come. After quite some time, he shows up and just says, "what's for lunch?". hmm, ok, well we decided to order an appetizer of onion rings, and each of us ordered the bbq Brisket sandwich, and the menu said it was served with bbq sauce and cole slaw on the sandwich. Well, we waited, and waited, a 1/2 goes by and our order of onion rings finally arrives. 6-7 onion rings for about $7?? ...and their special sauce tasted just like what you would get from Arctic Circle. And the waiter only brought 2 plates for 3 people. We waited some more until almost 50 minutes later our order finally arrives. The brisket didn't have any coleslaw on it, I didn't even get any bbq sauce on the side for mine, and the salad that came with it was warm, like it had been under the heat lamp with the sandwich. We complained that the order was different than what was described, and the waiter said they don't have any more coleslaw and brought out some garnish instead? This just made my fellow travelers even more angry, so the waiter did try to offer the meal for free, but it was not what was wanted, and we could not nor did we want to wait another hour for a different meal. An excuse was made it is because of the pandemic - the whole world knows there is a pandemic - that's no excuse for crappy service and poor quality. The place was not even that busy. If you don't have something on the menu, just say so upfront. Surprisingly, none of the staff were wearing any masks which makes it even more ironic to use the pandemic as an excuse. The impression of that place was that the people just don't care and maybe the owners don't either. So we left and went to a proven favorite which provided quick and excellent service and fantastic food which saved the day. I hike down near Escalante frequently with many different groups. I'm willing to give this place another try, and hopefully things will be different to warrant an updated review. But after that last experience, it makes me wonder if and why should I give them a second chance? read more

Went to circle D eatery with my family for dinner and it was a wonderful experience. I ordered their pineapple teriyaki burger, and it was the perfect balance of savory, tangy, and sweet. The fish tacos were filling and flavorful, and the green Chile burger was juicy with just the right amount of kick. I'm only even giving one star because I have to. We went in to have a nice dinner for my birthday and we were met with unpleasant staff who seemed to just not care. I found an ant in my drink and it wasn't a problem I just asked for a new one but our waiter seemed to get annoyed by the request. He gave us attitude about it. We ended up leaving because I was not okay with it. He ripped off his mask just to give us sass! (Not just us, directly my mother. I had to get out of there because I don't accept my mother being disrespected). On our way out he said "it's southern utah there's ants everywhere" as though that excuses finding ants in your food. Since it was Friday, we made a reservation. We arrived about 5 minutes early. Walked in and there were half a dozen people standing inside the door. No host in sight. Plenty of staff running around looking stressed out. Eventually someone came by and said to give them 5 minutes. A few people were seated before us. They did not have reservations. When we were finally addressed and said we had a reservation, there was no checking to see if we actually did have a reservation, which made me think there really was no reservation. Sat down and had to laugh at the front of the menu. It said their mission is to create a relaxing atmosphere. Meanwhile the stressed-out employees are trying to keep it together--and failing. We were not offered anything to drink when they took our order. In fact, our food came before our water. They really need to work on the order of operations. Another bothersome issue was the menu offers either pasta salad or fries with the meal, and charges extra for a side salad. We ordered 2 side salads. After we ordered I overheard the next table being offered the side salad as a substitute for the fries or pasta salad. Gee, thanks. And it was the same waitress. 5% tip deduction. Food quality was no different than a chain restaurant. Menu choices were standard American fare, so this is not a place that you'll get anything different than the greasy spoon across the road--except they have a fancier sign and charge a higher price. I could find absolutely no reason to recommend eating at this restaurant--unless there's nothing else open and starving is the only other option. read more

Since the food was so good (and because the choices are limited in Escalante), we decided to go there the next night as well. The waitress recommended the slow cooked barbecue, so we decided to try both the brisket and the chicken. Bad choices. Both meats were very dry, and the chicken tasted like burnt wood. The meal wasn't exactly cheap either. We were very disappointed and should have stuck to the burgers instead. In short: burgers, not BBQ. read more

While on an RV trip to southern Utah, we left our RV in Torrey and drove scenic State Route 12 all the way to Escalante. We were all famished by the time we made it to Escalante and on a lark, decided to stop at the the Circle D Eatery and Motel. It's an older place but was clean and the decor had an industrial flavor to it. It was busy. The meet, greet, and seat was quick and efficient. The menus featured a number of things that sounded appetizing. I went for the French Dip, the wife for the BBQ Pulled Pork. We were not disappointed. The sammies were delicious. My French Dip came on a hoagy bun and was a of a fair size. The BBQ Pulled Pork came on a hamburger bun. The size was adequate, but they should have been a little more generous with the pork. The fries were excellent - hot, crispy, and tasty, with goodly portions. Our server was friendly and efficient. The food came out fairly quickly under the circumstances. While the service was a little lacking, it was completely understandable - pretty much every table was full and the staff on hand did their absolute best. Can't complain about that... Glad we stopped here. I would definitely eat here again. read more
