Circle of Destination (Circle D) Restaurant is a HIDDEN TREASURE in the middle of the quiet town, Escalante. It is part of the Circle D Motel next door. My family stopped by here and our way to the National Parks and are so glad that we did. As my dad said, "this was the best meal of our trip so far", comparing it to fine dining in Seattle. Circle D is a relatively small establishment overall, and so we had to wait for a table for about 20 minutes or so. The owners and a young waitress whom they had hired a couple weeks before were the only front staff. All of them were very friendly. As far as the food, we ordered the smoked tuna Niçoise salad, the bone-in pork chop, and the lemon chicken. We also had the truffle fries for an appetizer. The TRUFFLE FRIES were super flavorful and packed with umami flavors. The cheese was perfectly melted on top giving it an extra rich and savory flavor. The SMOKED TUNA NICOISE SALAD was also excellent. The fish had a well-rounded smoky taste and the salad was HUGE. All of the vegetables were extremely fresh and crisp; they included tomato, avocado, red radish, green beans, and olives. While the smoked fish was the star of the dish, the baked potato was by far the BEST baked potato I've had in my life- crisp and browned on the outside and soft in the inside. The BONE-IN PORKCHOP was the highlight of the dishes. I don't normally like porkchop as I usually find it too dry but this one was super moist. The apple and parsnip compote was BOMB. This is the must-get dish if you come. The LEMON CHICKEN was wonderfully tender and came with the amazing potatoes as described above and fresh green beans. It had prominent olive and lemon flavors and reminded me of the chicken my mom bakes in the oven at home. The atmosphere is cozy; and homely. They have about 10 tables in total or so. I almost couldn't wait to write this review. We got into Escalante a bit late and most things to eat or shop at were closed. We found this little gym and as soon as we walked in we were cheerfully greeted by the server and seated right away. I ordered the trout nicoise salad (I was craving something fresh after roadside greasy good on our long drive) and my family all got burgers and fries. My salad was AMAZING. Every ingredient tasted fresh and the presentation was gorgeous. I literally said, "I think this is the best potato I've ever had!". The greens were crisp, the soft boiled egg and avocado were perfect. I snuck bites if the burgers and fries, both excellent. They had a small but varied selection of beer on tap, we had the Pilsner and the hefeweizen, both delicious. They had a nice squash based dish I eyed for next time; the availability of veggie dishes was a nice plus. Service was attentive, food came out quickly and man was it delicious. Who knew a food-spoiled Southern California family would find a new favorite restaurant way out in rural Utah!? We will absolutely be back next time we are out this way. read more

Great fun dinner place at the sleepy city of Escalante. We had to order at the catchier and also pick up our utensils to the table. I highly recommend their local smoked meat, both the brisket and the ribs were made to perfection. For sides we took the Mac and cheese, green beans and steak fries, both were really good. So thrilled to find this gem while hiking in the Escalante area. Had 1 lunch and 1 dinner here this past week. Usually only breakfast and lunch and just one dinner / week. The food was so good (Rueben, Caprese sandwiches for lunch and Pasta Puttanesca and Meatballs for the dinner) and the service was EXCELLENT. This place really stands over the years. We search out Circle D whenever we are in Escalante. The service is excellent and the food is superb. I love the indoor and outdoor options as well as the window bar tables. I had the baked zucchini squash dish and it was truly outstanding. Hubby had the pork chop with apple slaw and he says "definitely delectable!" He hasn't had a pork chop that good in a long time. Wines, draft beer, and cans. Superb quality in a small town. Nice venue. Just drove over 12 from Torrey, was time to grab something to eat. The folks here are cool, it's 1100 and very quiet mostly families I think. Ordered the American Breakfast, which sadly did not involve pancakes. I really wanted pancakes! Nice touch is that the bathrooms are marked men women and X so it's very inclusive. Melinda behind the counter is sweet and efficient. Breakfast was great. They have Cholula and Tabasco so not ketchup needed! The hash browns are chunks of whole potato with skin on, and the skin is generally nice and crispy. The eggs were as ordered, bacon crisp, and sourdough toast topped it off and helped wiped up every bit left. Also ordered a latte, was creamy with a fine head of foam. Stayed hot through the meal too! I don't get to escalante very often, but this looks like a keeper! read more

In this tiny blink and you miss it town of Escalante, I didn't expect fresh Caesar salad, delicious veg, and fun foodie goodness. Evidently, neither did our check-in dude at the RV and Cabin place in Escalante. His food recommendations were a pizza place and some other fast food-looking outfit. I'm not down with the whole gluten, nightshade, dairy bomb that pizza is, so we drove slow to locate edible food. Luckily we found the Circle D and its friendly Russ, Patrick, and Bailey with easy smiles, great food suggestions, and jokey exchanges. We felt so at home there that we ate there both nights of our stay. The Caesar salad was fresh. My husband's some sort of meat shank thing, huge. Evidently cooked for many hours and my one stolen bite delish. There was just a great vibe to the place. You order at the cashier desk, sit, chill and great food arrives. read more

I saw no urgency to greet people or get them drinks. Ok well what do you expect from older servers with 1977 haircuts? I ate here twice during my stay, the second time was due to the fact that every other restaurant in town was closed for private events. Due to that, Circle D was slammed. They were working their butts off, getting orders to people as fast as they could. Both times I ate there the food was great, the staff is super nice and bent over backwards to accommodate my high maintenance friends. Disappointment. Our group of five was excited to try this place based on the reviews. Arrived on a hot afternoon after a long drive down the mountain. We were very hungry and ready to refuel. It took about 10-minutes for the host to spot us standing outside the door. (There are signs on the door to wait outside to be seated, due to Covid.) The inside of the restaurant was full, but we were offered an outside table on the patio under the water-misters. We accepted, were seated, and given water to drink. We drained our waters while 20-minutes passed, and we didn't see anything... not a menu, not a waiter... nothing. My hubby got up once to go in and find someone. Again, not a waiter in sight. We waited a bit longer to see if we could catch someone's eye. After 35-minutes we left our table and drove away. After this, we were starving and considered just stopping at Subway. (Quite a disappointing substitute, but the only thing we could see that was open in town.) Ultimately, we chose to drive 37-minutes to Boulder to try out the Burr Trail Grill. And that's why Circle D gets 2-stars. As a thank you for ignoring us, because we went to Burr Trail Grill and had the BEST meal of our entire trip. We were seated within seconds of walking in the door and immediately given menus and water. After a quick perusal, we went to the desk and ordered, and after 20-minutes, five meals appeared at the table... fresh, warm, and perfect. (We even went back again the next day for lunch.) I can't say anything about the food at Circle D, since we never got to taste any of it. The host was friendly enough, when we saw him, but we felt very forgotten at our outdoor table. We were disposable patrons, for sure. So for excellent, attentive service, we recommend the additional drive and eating at Burr Trail Grill. read more

Traveling from Bryce to Arches on a warm August morning, my family and I had had it with Bryce Canyon City and the lack of decent dining. We were hoping to find a better spot perhaps an hour down the road which we did at the Circle D Eatery. It looks old on the outside but is thoroughly modern on the inside with TVs, decent wifi and contemporary furnishings. Our waitress was welcoming and helped us with the menu. My wife ordered Eggs Benedict, my daughter selected biscuits and gravy while I picked their breakfast burrito. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time despite there being a large group of twelve there before us. Our breakfasts were all amazingly fresh, hot and delicious. We could tell they were prepared with love and we reciprocated by cleaning our plates. My wife's eggs were poached to perfection atop a fresh sourdough bread. Her hollandaise sauce had just the right amount of kick to it. My daughter's biscuits and gravy tasted "homemade" to her. I was concerned with the size of my burrito and being able to eat all of it. No worries in the end and I didn't feel uncomfortably stuffed either. The potatoes were the best and not too heavy. Give this place a shot if you are passing through town. Based on pics and reviews on Yelp we were excited to try this place. My husband got the BBQ combo and I got the French Onion burger well done. Placing our order was super easy over the phone and my husband got a text when it was ready... well ahead of the estimated time. Due to current conditions, there's a table outside where you wait for help & the staff was attentive. We got our order easy and quick, packaged nicely with utensils & a cute note. When we got back to our room & settled with food I picked up my burger and a fly escaped from underneath it. Which, bummer, but there'd been all sorts of flying bugs annoying us during our stay, probably the same for them so I tried eating it anyways. Burger was VERY pink and the bun was underbaked by quite a bit. My fries were okay. Hubby's BBQ was over cooked, all meat not good. The Mac n cheese he likened to stouffers. The slice of carrot cake was the best part and I'm wondering if they get their baked goods from the bakery we heard good things about. read more

In this small town dining choices are limited. The menu at Circle D looked amazing and they featured their own in house BBQ. Sadly the meal was overpriced for what we ordered. Our food came out luke warm so we had to send it back to be reheated. Also the side dishes served with the BBQ entrees are in little tiny cups which I wouldn't even consider a full portion. My husband and I were on a month long road trip in the Southwest. As we drove through Escalante, we noticed the Circle D Hotel and Restaurant. I think the cafe is called Destination Cafe. It was lunch time so we decided to stop- especially since the exterior looked very nice. The interior is even prettier and looks newly renovated. My husband had a delicious hamburger and I had, literally, the very best caprese sandwich I'd ever had. The vegetables were freshly cut for my sandwich and the humus was homemade. When the waitress came up, we complimented all the food. She asked the chef to come out and we had the most pleasant conversation with him. As I mentioned, we were on the road for a month- eating all of our meals out. Food was always kind of hit or miss despite generally trying to search out places with good reviews. This cafe was one of our very favorite places throughout our entire trip. Side Note: When you've been traveling for weeks on end, even the simplest things like a clean, sweetly decorated bathroom means so much. The restrooms fit the bill! read more

Kind of an unusual cafe in that meals are served on metal trays rather than plates and the service is on again off again. By that I mean that some of the people at our table were brought their coffee and some had to go inside to the bar to pick it up themselves. Ditto with cream for the coffee. Some got it some didn't. No one was offered refills. Other than those quirks, it wasn't bad. Food (breakfast) was OK---everyone ordered something different and everyone was satisfied but no one was thrilled. My wife and I made a visit and really enjoyed the food, service and beers. Rockford was our waiter and made sure we were well taken care of during our meal. His little nephew even helped out a bit. Maggie and I had a couple of great off season hikes today, and decided to drive a ways to the next restaurant. Turned out to be this one. Clean, shiny, well lit place with a fireplace in the corner, and an out of school for the moment young lady buffing every cleanable surface. Maggie ordered trout and I had NY strip steak. Side dishes were very tasty, steak was perfect, Maggie's trout tasted a little fishy to her, but she is quite picky that way and I noticed none left on her plate. I think it's hard to do a light sweet sauce on fish like their presentation, but, quite a decent try I thought. The chef is more than a backwoods cook I think. Dessert was yummy, with a tasty raspberry reduction on a dense flourless chocolate cake, and a fine cup of coffee at the end of a great meal. I'd go 5 Stars, but Maggie was driving. read more
