Stopped by Griffin Grocery just for some eggs, and ended up buying so much more! They are well stocked, including produce, and I was able to cross many found items off my shopping list. Thankful to be able to restock our RV as we continue our travels. Friendly service here as well. read more

A special place, where the produce section and the meat aisles make you question whether the term fresh means something different in the high desert. This. Is. An. Experience. For groceries, this is what you want! Good depth and breadth of food AND grocery stuff! Prices are reasonable for being in an off-the-beaten-track town of Escalante! They had all food items I needed/wanted, even blueberries & San Pelogreno!... though beef was frozen. (Beer is across the street @ High Adventure.) So... one stop shopping!! read more

Opens at 10AM officially but locals seem to get invited in well before official hours. Really run down and not very well stocked, but we are pretty much in the middle of nowhere, so don't expect much. Canned staples are safe but I won't trust much else. It just seems like a sad, sad little store. read more

This store was a great find in Escalante. If you're looking for a store like your big grocery stores in the city, this is not it. But they carry all the necessities. We have traveled far and wide, and compared to most small towns we've visited, this store stocks more than most. read more

This little market does have a little bit of everything you might need. We didn't experience anything like some of the other reviews. Stopped in about 8:30am, greeted by the front as well as a nice gentlemen stocking the shelves. For a small town market the prices were to be expected.... Cute little town! read more

Yes, the building is older and in need of repair. But it is well stocked with produce, meats, frozen foods, pantry staples, and everything in between. Compared to the prices we've seen in Bryce and Tropic, this store is completely reasonable. Brand names and generic. Service was friendly. Not the most organized, and certainly not the nicest and newest grocery store I've ever been in. But in a small town like this, I was very surprised to see how big this was, and the wide variety of items there. It's a full grocery store, though not like a big box in a big city. I perused the aisles and I ended up getting a few items for dinner: some tortillas, lunch meat, cheese, and an apple. The produce section isn't too big, nor is the deli, but you do have plenty of cold beverages. I also grabbed a chocolate milk to wash things down. There's no public restroom, which was kind of a bummer as I really was after that first and groceries secondary. And they don't take American Express, which is another inconvenience. Stop in for a wide selection of groceries--there aren't a lot of other options around and the small town feel is fun. read more

Wow. I just... wow. I have never in my life seen such a sad excuse for a grocery store. I feel bad for anyone who relies on this place for sustenance. I stopped here on my way to Cannonville only because I knew there were no stores there. I wish I had just moved on to Tropic, which I ended up doing after I checked into my cabin anyway. This store was 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' in every way. I felt weird, and almost scared. Flickering lights. Carts from the 70's. Beat up flooring. Dusty cans. One loaf of bread on a shelf. A random assortment of freezer burned things. Meat that appeared to be from... I don't even know. Barely cool hot dogs and lunch meat. Produce that was sparse, and what was there was browning and gross. I ended up buying a few items because I didn't know there would be a better option in Tropic. I didn't end up eating any of the food I got there, though. Just avoid this god awful place if you're headed in the direction of Tropic or Cannonville. read more

Good small town grocery. It is definitely the biggest grocery in Escalante, maybe the biggest in all of Garfield county, but that is not saying too much. It has most of the basics covered. The hours are a bit inconvenient: it closes at 7p. read more

RIP OFF. They posted $6.99 for a case of arrow head water. But when we got to the register, the cashier told us it's actually$6.99 for HALF the case of water and it's just marked that way for the cashiers. Serious??? Would recommend you be carefully enough shopping here. Update: Went back as we enjoy the outdoors. And it slipped our mind this was the grocer that ripped us off before...until I logged on to review. We usually go to small tourist towns in CA, UT, NV. Hands down this is the only grocery store that tries to so boldly and obviously rip off tourist with a straight face and no shame. Come ON. Don't tell me the price marked is for the cashier...I may look like a foreigner, but I was born and raised and served in the US. Just because it's hot out does not warrant water to be sold at double or triple the price already marked. I am sooo tempted to report this grocer to the Better Business Bureau. Gonna remind all tourist to avoid this place and just stick up at a gas station or get stuff before you reach this destination. read more

So sad to see some of these comments! We just came back from a wonderful trip to Escalante and shopped at Griffins market. We purchased organic spring mixed greens, fresh yellow squash,avocado, eggs, tomatoes and local rib eye steaks. All was wonderful, fresh and yummy. The staff was friendly, the local folks were also friendly. All you tourists should be thankful to have a local market in such a small and remote town, so shop and be grateful! Yes the store is a bit run down, but having lived in a tiny town as well, our local market was run down, but the food was great and we were so happy to have a local grocery store. This place is unreal. Asked to see their sales flyer that the clerk was using and was told that the sales are only for locals. Serious? So if you are a local you get sales prices but if not you pay a higher price. Maybe this owner should realize that the tourist industry is likely a large part of his sales. Or, is it based on whether you belong to their church that is the real underlying motivator for them. We will be going to Panguich or Tropic from now on. Based on other reviews, it is obvious they don't value business from tourist or people assigned to work near Escalante for short period of time. It's a very small town and this grocery store fits with the size of the town. You will find basic necessities and most all of what you need. There is a small selection of good produce, a small selection of fresh meats, frozen items, breakfast items, and pantry' items. Also can get ice and firewood here. No beer or wine. The staff are friendly and helpful. But don't expect a super store with specialized ingredients. We definitely will shop here again if ever in Escalante. read more

Different hours (& apparently prices) for the visitors vs the locals. We were turned away at the door by an employee who was holding the door for a local walking out with a full cart of groceries. So be aware of the uneven scales here. Produce is veryyyy hard to come by in this part of Utah, harder when the store you drive to won't let you in for two more hours because they discriminate against visitors. (It opens for non locals in the afternoon, closed Sundays.) It must annoy the locals who live in town that tons of visitors are always wanting to come see the beauty in the area. - And wanting to spend money in their town. read more

We stopped to buy a few things (food, drinks) for our fishing trip. They had everything we wanted. Maybe not the huge variety of brands like a WalMart Superstore, but well stocked. The staff was very friendly. Even all the other customers were friendly. Were the prices a little higher than you would find in a larger city? Yes, but that is to be expected in a small town/ tourist destination. I did not see any price gouging or misleading pricing while I was there. The City of Escalante would be in a bad way if Griffin were to ever close up. It's one of those places that every town needs. I'll be shopping there again. read more

We were staying in town and had no high expectations for this grocery store, after seeing some reviews. Oh how wrong we were! We found everything we looked for, and then some! What a well stocked place in a small town! We bought a few steaks one day and could not have been happier about the quality of the local meat, very delicious! We had just left Capitol Reef and were on our way to Bryce for 4 nights. Had to stock up on some serious groceries. Griffin worked out perfectly. They are an actual grocery store, scaled down a bit, but a grocery store, not a mart. read more
