    Went here recently for a friend's birthday party. The bar area easily accommodated a large number of guests, most of whom were able to sit together at a long raised table with barstools. Drinks were generously poured and the bartender was this fantastic older British woman who made sure the birthday boy was well taken care of. Not having had dinner, we ordered a cheeseburger, croque madame and some dips and bread. Cheeseburger was solid, cooked well and the fries were decent. Croque madame came out looking a bit blackened but whatever. About 5 minutes later, a barback came rushing out with an egg and a small container of hollandaise. Perplexed, my dining companion was instructed by the barback to put the egg on top of the sandwich, and then the guy slowly poured hollandaise over the whole thing. Who knew it was do-it-yourself dinner? This place honestly would have had a fourth star if it hadn't been so disgustingly HOT inside. It's a 60 degree evening in Washington and they have the gas powered faux fireplace in full force. It wouldn't have killed them to turn on the air a bit, as I'm sure it would've been warm inside with all the people milling about anyway. Anyhow, it's a pleasant, sleek looking hotel lobby which is good for a slightly older (mid-30s) crowd who are there more for the conversation than the binge drinking (although the latter was well-attended to as well.)

    I went here with a friend for lunch during restaurant week (my favorite time of year!) We had decided on this place because it was in between both our offices and they had an open reservation. What struck me most was the service- quick, attentive, polite- everything you would want it to be. The food itself was delicious - the chicken was moist and the snap peas were fresh. Also, it seemed like the rest of the menu was reasonably priced, at least for lunch. Definitely worth a stop if you're in foggy bottom.

This place has an almost pioneer-ish vibe with all of the taxidermy on the walls mixed with like your Uncle's cabin in the woods in the 60s. I was digging it. I started with the buttermilk biscuits and pimento cheese. Wow. I could have eaten all of them. The bartender and I agreed that it wasn't a good idea. He said he did it once. I also had a mint julep, and while I normally like them, this one was a little different. The presentation was cool, but the drink was all ice, which was disappointing. For dinner I had the Butcher's Steak, medium well (should have gotten medium) and the Brussels sprouts. I'm thinking about the leftovers now. I visited the Pembroke as part of…read morea work team dinner during Restaurant Week, and we were thoroughly impressed by the quality of the food, super friendly service, and great ambiance. The space is gorgeous; I love all the plants, and the light brown, light blue, and white color combination for their furniture makes the space look classy and modern. The light brown leather couches are comfortable, and I love the way they circle around the tables to create a natural, cozy booth. Our food was just as beautiful as the space. The Restaurant Week menu comes with an appetizer, main, and dessert. Given how indecisive I can be (and how expansive the normal menu is), I was grateful to have my choices narrowed down a bit. I started off my meal with the octopus. The octopus was remarkably tender and not overly chewy, and had a delightful char that gave it a slightly smoky flavor. They double downed on the smokiness with their burnt chili oil, which, alongside the lemon and salsa verde, gave the dish a wonderfully balanced smoky, savory, and slightly acidic flavor. The crushed potatoes had a lovely crispy shell on the outside and served as a great base for the tender octopus. The main course was probably the easiest choice of the evening -- I'm absolutely obsessed with branzino, so the second I saw it on the Restaurant Week menu, I knew that was what I had to get. The fish is beautifully broiled, with a nice, crispy skin and super tender, flaky flesh. It's topped with a few pieces of roasted garlic and a wedge of lemon. The fresh lemon juice, as well as the lovely side salad, offered a great pop of freshness to bring the whole dish together. And finally, for our dessert, I chose the chocolate torta. This wonderful dessert is remarkably rich and decadent, with a strong dark chocolate flavor. It's topped with a lovely marsala date sauce and scoop of sheep's yogurt ice cream, but still doesn't feel overly sweet. The sheep's yogurt in the ice cream offers a bit of tanginess, and I loved the addition of the candied walnuts for a bit of crunch.
