It was during happy hour and I had four street tacos (one of each variety). While I did not favor the halibut, I thought the mole chicken and braised pork were very good. My wife also liked the cheesecake. It amazes me how much staff can make a difference to the experience. Sadly, Emma is no longer there. Their new manager was personable and attentive.

The waiter asked me for my selection and I asked to have the tamale dish which she said they were out of, so I lmade my next choice of the enchiladas which she now said they were out of, quite stunned, I reviewed the menu again and ordered the chicken dish since I was pretty much out of choices other than the 60.00 steak which I was not comfortable with ordering considering what was going on this far. It gets better, after 10 minutes the host comes back to the table to inform me they are out of the chicken too! I was shocked and told him there is really not much left for me to order and he suggested the tamales which the waiter had just said they were out of? You can't make this stuff up! lol So I ended up getting the tamales, not great as well as everything else we ordered especially at the price point! *The good news is the staff was friendly and gracious. Sorry but can't return to that kinda operation:(

It was a perfect place to meet someone who had just flown in to TIA. It's a short drive over from the airport with lots of comfortable booths, and plenty of free parking. Our server Justin, was awesome - super friendly, and understood from the get-go that we would be hanging out for a few hours, waiting for someone else's flight to arrive. The food and drink selections were plentiful, and the place went from being relatively quiet to hopping with customers of all ages, to quiet again. Justin handled all the tables, making sure to check on us, too. Before we left, we complimented his ability to multitask with such an upbeat attitude - always smiling - which added to how much we enjoyed our experience. We ordered the hummus plate, the salmon entree, and the apple pecan salad and all were delicious. Definitely a great place to consider for a meal when picking up hungry travelers, or for a satisfying meal when arriving to Tucson hungry with no idea where to find decent options. ¡Gracias, Justin, and SOL!

Knew the menu and the drinks very well and was so nice! He seemed to be waiting on a lot of tables, but didn't look stressed at all. We decided to try a few different apps and go family style. We had the tuna crudo, sonoran squid, wings, tuetano and brussels. They were all amazing. For drinks we tried one of ciders on tap, the paloma and the lychee rose. All very good! And then for dessert, we had the chocolate cake. Delicious. We will definitely be back; I really wanted to try the salmon, but we were too full - good excuse to return. The speakeasy, Afterlife, although a short walk down a hallway, seemed like a totally different atmosphere. And you couldn't hear anything going on in the restaurant while I was standing in there (just checking it out). Very cool vibe. We will definitely be back! One of our new favs! Thank you for responding. I want to clarify a few points because I think some of my review may have…read morebeen misunderstood. First, I will absolutely own that I may have misquoted the mocktail by a dollar or two. I was looking at the alcoholic drink pricing when I wrote the review. However, my criticism wasn't simply whether it was $13, $15, or $16. My issue was that there was only about a $2 difference between the mocktail and its alcoholic counterpart, while the mocktail was served in a relatively small cocktail glass. I actually thought the drink was good. My concern was the value and portion at that price. The larger issue for me was the restaurant's presentation of its food. I understand and agree that Arizona has a very broad culinary landscape. But when a restaurant specifically uses descriptions such as "Arizona Known Food" and "Tucson Local Food," there is a reasonable expectation that diners will experience flavors and culinary traditions recognizable as Tucson or Arizona-inspired. Tucson has a very distinctive food identity, particularly its Sonoran Mexican influence, along with Indigenous desert ingredients and traditions. That's what I understood I was coming to experience when I read the menu and restaurant presentation. If the concept is actually Arizona ingredients interpreted through Indian flavors and techniques, I have no problem with that. I love Indian food. But I would expect that to be communicated somewhere on the menu or in the restaurant's description. I didn't see anything that led me to understand this was an Indian-inspired interpretation of Arizona cuisine. Instead, we repeatedly experienced very strong lemon aromatics and what we perceived as Indian-inspired spices throughout the meal, the fries, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, burger and other dishes. Those flavors aren't inherently bad. The issue was that they became repetitive and, to us, didn't taste like the Arizona/Tucson fine-dining experience we believed we were ordering. I also want to address the mole, because I understand my use of the phrase "mortal sin" offended you or others. If it did, I sincerely apologize. That wasn't my intention; it was an expression of how strongly we felt about the dish. However, I do stand by the substance of my criticism. Mole has an expectation attached to it. Fine dining can absolutely reinterpret traditional dishes, but there is a point where a dish has been changed so substantially that a diner can reasonably question whether it is still recognizable as the dish being advertised. For us, this did not come close to what we expected when we ordered mole. My husband disliked it so much that we asked to replace it with the burger, and the mole ultimately went uneaten. We were also disappointed that the original mole remained on the bill after we made the substitution. The same issue applied to the $55 ribeye, which arrived poorly trimmed with a significant amount of gristle and fat. The mushrooms again carried that same strong lemon/Indian-inspired flavor. The $16 carrots were also heavily influenced by that flavor profile, and the potatoes didn't work for us either. The Brussels sprouts were actually the standout dish of the meal, which is why I specifically mentioned them as the best thing we ordered. I also want to make clear that I did compliment our waiter. He was kind, pleasant and lovely. My criticism wasn't directed at him personally. We also weren't the only diners who seemed disappointed that evening. The couple seated beside us ultimately canceled the remainder of their food after the salads, which reinforced our feeling that the experience wasn't simply a matter of our personal tastes. Ultimately, this was a nearly $190 dinner for two, and at that price point, expectations are naturally high. The restaurant is attractive, the concept is interesting, and I genuinely wanted to like it. That's why I was disappointed. I'm happy to acknowledge where I got something wrong, including the exact mocktail price. But that doesn't change the central point of my review: the experience we had did not match what we understood Nex to be presenting as Tucson/Arizona fine dining. If you're willing to look into the billing issue, particularly the charge for the mole after we changed the dish to the burger, I'd be more than happy to speak with you directly by phone and discuss it. I'm always willing to have a conversation and give a restaurant the opportunity to address a legitimate concern. I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and I hope this clarifies where my criticism was coming from.

The first thing I need to own is that it's a shame I hadn't visited here before. We arrived at 5:30p and both the bar and patio areas were packed - standing room only, and no wonder. They have one of the better happy hours (daily! 3:00 - 6:30p) - able to accommodate both the slacker and the over-timer Lol. Basic drinks are all discounted such as house wines, well drinks, and beers. Their bottled wines and craft cocktails are all exempt though. Many of their appetizers are also discounted and some quite substantially. We grabbed a glass of the house cabernet ($6, normally $8) and the grilled shrimp wrapped in jalapeno bacon ($13, normally $20). NOTE: happy hour pricing is Only available if you order/consume at the bar or on the patio and that's clear in advance, and understandable. The dining areas were only half full at this early point (but filled up by 6:30) and the host kindly encouraged us to enjoy our starters at the bar as she would hold our table. We were then sat near the "back" of this long venue and frankly, aside from the lone windowed table at the very front, this would be my preferred seating - cozy, intimate, with only five other tables around us. For dinner drinks she got an Italian Nebbiolo Bricco Magno Red Blend ($13/glass, reliably terrific/mellow) and I got the Chupacabra ($15) Mezcal/prickly pear cocktail, strong and excellent as well. We got an additional appetizer: the roasted bone marrow ($19). I had never had marrow before but she raved about how good this can be if done properly (bonus, it is super healthy). Folks, a picture/worth a 1000... suffice to say this was simply outstanding! We both had long work weeks and were craving meat - just a damn good steak. Our waiter, without blinking recommended the 8oz bison filet mignon ($65) as his absolute menu fav, and then the day's special: 14oz ribeye ($50). We ordered each. All dinners come with two sides and we each got the day's special: roasted half artichoke and she got the loaded baked potato while I got the mashed potatoes. Food arrived about 15 minutes later at good temperature (warm/rested with a strong char) with each being accurately grilled (medium and medium-rare). Taste was outstanding. Neither one of us had bison filet before and marveled how it (subtly) added a "wild" edge to an always outstanding, lean-but-tender, cut of beef. The loaded baked was terrific, however, the mashed was the only disappointment... a plainer mash one could not make themselves - pure white and borderline dry, no milk, butter, egg, gravy(?), nothing to make it creamy or add any flavor dimension - a surprise frankly. The only other "critique" is that the dessert menu could add some kind of dark/chocolate concoction. All in all, though, we loved our experience and have decided to add this to our periodic special dinners rotation! Staff was outstanding - just the proper balance of attentive and quiet - and waters never went below half empty. Parking is free and plentiful, especially behind the restaurant (and yes, if you continue on around the back there is another long entrance/exit driveway that comes out the other side of Jimmy John's and Noodleholics.
