I had Ciao Down at the new Oro Valley locaction that just opened! We were greeted by friendly staff, the restaurant is small and inviting. There are also tables outside, which offer a beautiful mountain view! The pizza is consistent with the original location on Dodge and Ft. Lowell, AMAZING, best pizza, hands down. I also had to try a cookie from Treat by Ciao Down, it was perfect. I am a cookie snob, and when I say this cookie was the perfect level of softness.. I mean it. It is very apparent that they take their desserts very seriously and I'm here for it! To top it all off... I love that this restaurant is locally owned by a family who grew up in the area and are now raising their own family in the area. Love the sense of community! read more

I've been to Ciao Down twice in the prior two weeks... Holy shmoly their pizza excellent!!! This is indeed artisanal pizza... beginning with the amazing crust. It has just a bit of crunch, then the chewiness, then the incredible flavors of your pizza take over and all three that I've tried I would definitely recommend. The Margarita Pizza was as perfect as could be, but wowzer, the fig and prosciutto pizza was a huge hit... and the Bella, mushroom and sausage and other good stuff I cannot recall, was my favorite, but I would never turn down any of the three. The folks working there were all very friendly, the facility itself, though small, was comfortable and conveniently located next to the Tucson Hop Shop, which I escaped to for a little beer while my pizzas were in the oven. This is a TEN STAR pizza place, no exaggeration. It's now also my favorite pizza place, which understates how much I love it. I LOVE this pizza place. They have a food truck and now a little restraunt as well. The pizza is consistently great and I dare say the best pizza I've ever had. Customer service is on point, they greeted us as we walked in and the guy taking our order helped talk my son through what he wanted snd cleared our dishes right away. My son just got a kids cheese pizza, which was super cheesey it came with ranch and a brownie. I got one of their special salads arugula and apple. And my favorite the snakebite pizza. Their new little shop is cozy, a few seats at a bar and then also some tables outside. They are in the same plaza as a brewery and they will serve and deliver your pizza to you in there as well. Oh my God this place is amazing! It's really small but there is a patio shared by the whole plaza to sit and enjoy your treat. I got the whiskey caramel gelato and a vegan raspberry cookie. Both were phenomenal. My husband got got half peaches and cream, half s'mores gelato and the peach one has REAL peach pieces in it! So fresh and refreshing. The strawberry gelato is also very fresh and not super sweet which I'd prefer for fruit gelato. They have giant homemade cookies and crispy treats and also macaroons! The BBQ Jackfruit vegan pizza on gluten free dough was such a perfect selection of flavors it might be one of my favorite pizzas I have ever had. However, my pizza was missing the vegan mozzarella! Even without the cheese the pizza was incredible. I also ordered a gluten free, vegan margherita pizza, and was served a pepperoni pizza with regular cheese, which I didn't discover until later, because I asked for that one to go. I was definitely sad I couldn't eat the pizza I ordered for next day's lunch, but was so happy with the BBQ Jackfruit, the offering of gluten free crust, and the vegan specific menu, I'm still giving four stars. Ciao Down is connected to Tucson Hop Shop, and the seating area is shared. I loved the cozy atmosphere, but getting past the crowds around the standing tables was slightly awkward. THANK YOU... for not charging more for gluten free crust. It really adds up constantly having to pay for upcharges. We ended up getting all GF crusts for my family, since half of us now have sensitivities to gluten. I will say, I was slightly disappointed, I thought they still made a hand tossed gluten free crust... but it seems like they use the standard gf crust most places use. We got the snake bite, meatball (but came with sausage to stay gf), Hawaiian, and tres amigos. Wow, the snake bite packed some serious heat, had to take off some of the jalapeños and the heat still lingered. I was eyeing the spicy pepperoni pizza, happy I didn't get it cause I probably wouldn't have been able to handle it. I really like their sauces. And they do have a very good unique fun combinations. We would probably go a lot more regularly if it was closer to us on the East side. We will be back, we will try more... read more

This is a new place in Oro Valley. Things are currently in a state of disorganization. You don't know whether to go up to the counter and place an order or sit at a table and wait for service. After waiting about ten minutes I got up and walked up to the counter . A young man took my order and I paid the bill. No receipt. The machine was not working I was told. I then went back to my table. No water ,no set ups, no service. After returning to the counter I was told the waitress was very busy. Other tables had water and set ups. Finally after going back twice more our food arrived. The sauce was ice cold. The waitress took the plate with sauce back and came back ten minutes later with a plate that was literally smoking. The sauce was still not hot. The poor waitress tried to be accommodating but the place needs real management. Food and ambience were decent. read more

Was a pleasant surprise to see some non traditional pizza toppings on their menu. They were patient with us as we perused their menu, especially the ones under "Adventure Pizzas". They all sounded pretty good, IMO, and it was tough to pick just one. Fortunately, they do half and halfs which made life a tiny bit easier. We ordered half Legendary Snake Bite and half Burning Up Nashville. The Snake Bite had an episode transition of flavors; from sweet (raspberry chipotle jam), to creamy (cream cheese), and ended with spice (jalapeño). The Nashville was also good in its own way. The pickle and parsley drizzle did not overpower the other flavors. The pizza was not soggy or overly cooked and the dough was tasty enough on its own to where I didn't need any sauce to dip my crust in. I'd order these again, but after having the chance at giving the other "Adventure Pizzas" a try. This pizza spot is located in a shared area with Tucson Hop Shop. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Dogs are welcome to chill with you outdoors too, while you enjoy a a cold brewhaha and wait for your pie to be delivered to you. Love the pizza here! The gluten free crusts are no extra charge! We ordered the Whole Shebang and the Tres Amigos and both were awesome! Incredible service, quality & price! We were hoping to enjoy Ciao Down while sipping drinks at Hop Shop but our daughter caught a cold so we pivoted to take out.
