Talk about GENEROUS toppings and rich, balanced flavors!!!! It's really challenging to keep familiar flavors while inserting a new, fun element, and both pizzas I tried at Penelope's did just that! Hot honey pizza has the most perfect hint of sweetness without becoming desert, and the lemon-arugula-ricotta one was so addictive. Cute spot for date night with minimalist decor and fast service! Pro tip: get a side of the marinated olives to soak up with your crusts :) read more

Really great pizza and you can really taste the quality in every part of it. Got the Marinara pizza for take out. It was during the Chinese Chorizo festival and I asked for the sesame crust they had for their festival special + Mushroom Chorizo add on ($4). I loved that the marinara was not sweet and had a slight spice kick to it. It was clearly freshly house-made. The crust was light and delicious. A little thin in the part with the toppings which made it a tad messy to eat but there was a good amount of crust on edges. The marinara pizza comes without cheese and is vegan. I am not sure I noticed the garlic oil specifically on the Marinara pizza. It would also be sooo good with some added Treeline cashew based cheese. I like that they are responsive to message inquiries on Instagram. They were very busy when I came and said the wait for my takeout pizza would be 25-30 min but it was ready in about 10 minutes. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite! read more

Place : Loud , somewhat sterile eating area. **The pizzas are clever with good combinations**, that being said they're inconsistent in crust, especially for takeout. It is a great crust, not quite as good as Luna's was (RIP), IYKYK, their pies edged this place out in consistency and crust flavor with that special yeast. The pies are somewhat expensive, which is fine, but really the toppings are scant considering. And the aforementioned inconsistency, - slightly higher prices are fine , but they should be consistent. Make it feel worthwhile. The service is a joke, sometimes someone will greet you, sometimes maybe not. It used to be you could walk into a place, even 15 minutes before they closed, and order food. Not so much with this place( and it's a pizza place ?!!?)-which is odd because you'd think they want money. I digress. I've gone in, in the past, half hour before closed, and been told they were out of dough! Pizza place out of the main ingredient. Obviously bad meal prep, planning, mgmt, -however you want to plate it. -Now-, there's an ordering system online to , idk, 'help things be orderly ' , maybe. You can't even go on 50 minutes before they close and place an order. What a joke. ...Likely to put out that image of high demand, the rarest , most prized, kneaded dough by Swedish monks,, that you must plan a day ahead if you want to partake in. More likely, they'll start tagging on service charges and having slightly inflated prices through online ordering. BET. read more

Penelope did not disappoint!! We ordered the pizza from their daily specials - not your typical pizza, but the flavors worked so well together! We also got the Caesar salad, which they kindly split onto separate plates for our group and the 10-layer lasagna which was absolutely delicious! They have great happy hour specials ($10 cocktails, $2 off the shareables, etc.) and the service was great. I can't wait to try their other pizzas! read more

Tried the know better now cocktail and it was good. It came with a sidecar of champagne, so it was a decent sized cocktail by the time you get both. It was smoky, sweet and refreshing. Very well balanced, a lot of effort went into it. We had 30 min wait in small upstairs area for our table on a Thursday night. They don't have much waiting area, most nights you have to wait outside. It was over a 100 after the sun went down, so I'm glad there was room available. Ordered the vodka chicken Parmesan and the burrata. They were both amazing. The pasta that came with the chicken Parmesan was super tender light, tasted fresh. Their pasta is all handmade daily. All the ingredients were simple and fresh for the burrata. The pesto was chunky and gave a good texture contrast. The tomatoes were very flavorful, olive oil and balsamic were all high quality. Very flavorful dish. I liked that you could order a half order. We wanted to try it, with two entrees a full order would have been too much. I would definitely return for both. Tried the pepperoni, sausage and jalapeño pizza and it was good as well. It's very toasty and dark on the crust, made in a a very high temperature pizza oven. We had some leftover pizza to take home. I was definitely more impressed with their pasta, good handmade pasta at an affordable price is hard to find. Would definitely go back if we are ever in the area and try other items. My sister ordered a salad and she had to modify some things due to her auto immune condition. It got screwed up, but the server was so apologetic and they fixed it. It wasn't the end of the world to us. She kinda deals with this all the time since her diet is super restrictive. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, checking in with us. This place is a true gem. It's not cheap, or expensive. Mid range, but feels like you get a good value for the quality and quantity. read more

My wife and I went here for the first time for Dinner. We ordered the bread with marinara sauce and the little miss pizza. Both tasted fantastic, however, I wish they would crispy up the bottom dough of the pizza a little bit. It was just a teeny bit oily. Fantastic service and food, tasted so fresh. We'll definitely go back and try it again. read more

Need to come back to try every other pizza! lol. A friend suggested this place for a get-together. They don't take reservations, and we knew to expect a wait, so a friend volunteered to stop in early to get our name on the list (this was around 5:30 PM, right before happy hour ended)! The restaurant is a cozy space. It was the middle of summer, so we opted for an indoor table, meaning a wait was certain. They do have a nice patio section, so I'm sure wait times will be much shorter or nil once we return in the fall or winter, or as soon as the temperatures drop! As soon as we were seated, we ordered drinks in time to catch the happy hour specials. We each got a drink and the meatball entree to share. We opted for the entree over the small plate because it came with 3 meatballs rather than just one. For entrees, I got the Figgy Piggy pizza. OMG, this pizza was sooo good! Sweet and savory! It features a fig jam base, mozzarella, prosciutto, lemon parmesan, balsamic drizzle, and arugula. One friend got the classic pepperoni and the other got the meatball lasagna. I got to taste the lasagna, and it was rich and flavorful. That lasagna serving was massive. One slice is easily enough for at least two people! I am already planning to come back since I was only able to try one of the pizzas! LOL. Who's coming with?" read more

I stopped into Penelope Pizza on Sunday, August 9, and grabbed a seat at one of the high-top tables. One thing I really liked was that there are plenty of servers working the floor, rather than having just one person assigned to you. Multiple people help with the menu, drinks, food, and whatever else you need, which made the service feel especially attentive and seamless. I originally went in planning to get pizza, but then I spotted the vegetarian lasagna and immediately changed my mind. Ten layers of vegetables and ricotta between homemade pasta? Instant winner. It was honestly the best vegetarian lasagna I've ever had--and the best part is that I got to enjoy it without spending hours making it myself! I also ordered the bread with olive oil, garlic, and green onions as a dipping sauce, along with a glass of their house wine during happy hour. Everything was delicious, and the whole meal felt like such a treat. If you're looking for a great meal at Penelope Pizza, don't overlook the vegetarian lasagna. It absolutely stole the show for me! read more

First time here. Fast, polite, efficient service. Happy to see that the place was packed. We ordered the bread app & marinara cheese sauce. It was pretty good. Pizza we ordered was called "Little Miss" we customized it by putting basil & oregano on only half of it & added sausage. Pizza came out with no oregano & no sausage. Server was very nice & offered to give us a side of sausage & oregano. After that, it was very tasty! Vibe inside seemed to be very hipster & friendly atmosphere. Seemed like they knew people like regulars maybe? Anyways, we will be back. read more

We arrived at around 5:30 and was told there was a 25 minutes wait time. We were seated one hour later. We found out that they have "team service" which explains why you can see servers are all over the place. Regardless, They were all nice and very welcoming. Place has plenty of seating. We ordered a Caesar salad, spaghetti meatball, cheese pizza, OTC pizza and the Jackie luna. Everything was flavorful, our experience would have been better if we were able to get in and out a little quicker. read more

Leopard spotted, blisterednby wood fire, just enough sauce n cheese, freshest quality produce = Penelope Perfection. Busy on a Weds 330PM shortly after doors open, after 2 days off, but understand it fills up even own the patio and after tasting you'll know why :) Fine dusted parm topped a zesty house dressed $13 Caesar that was pre-split for sharing. House croutons need more of a blast in that wooded oven to crisp up as they were limp and doughy but still polished off the greens. 4/5* Love me some Mortadella and hard to find on menus even in an Italian Grinder here, so my focus lasered in on Tony Balona $18 with Burrata, smoked mozz (didn't taste any smoke) and pistachio dust (very minimal at center, wah), thick swirls of pistachio pesto and switched red sauce for garlic oil, a thin simple sauce. Pistachio not really noticeable in pesto or dust, I really enjoyed my pie, though its not as complex tasting as you might believe. Dough with it's black blisters definitely shines. 5/5* Hub's Classic Pepperoni $17 was flooded in lil' crispy cups; devoured! Happy Hour Bonus 3-6P weekdays, $2 off Appys incl our Salad. $10 cocktails ($6 off!) and $6 Drafts & house wines. Beechwood Brewing centraholic West Coast IPA 7% ABV, a Golden hoppy entry with med bitter to end, Light body and lasting Creamy head was a great pizza accompaniment, as was a regular vs White Negroni on menu. Had an herbal syrup less bitter front than a typical in your face Campari sip. Service was efficient. Water carafe to table on seating. Sure hope they save the water left over given the constant desert shortage, as we only drank 1/3 due to our ABV glasses. On Penelope return, I'll fight to try the fresh pasta unless the Dough menu punches me into submission again! Haha read more

You won't have better pizza. Best in the state of AZ without question. Anyone that gave this a poor rating in the past has grown up on Domino's and developed shitty taste buds or they just join yelp to complain and trash restaurants. The crust is chewy, light and airy and also has some crunchiness: A crust this good takes a lot of passion for putting out a quality product and talent! The artisanal pizzas are well put together regardless of what you order. Caesar salad is homemade, lemony with a little hint of bitterness almost like an arugula flavor. Go eat, enjoy and share how good this place is with your friends and family. read more

The Pizza is to die for and memorable. It's been a long time since I have a new constant craving. Penelope surpassed my expectations. The crust wasn't too thin. The topping was plentiful. The price point is more expensive but well worth the savory flavors. Every bite was delicious. The service was okay but we had one server who was a shinning star and was just great! Even boxed our food. The area is a little loud and close together so be prepared. Only thing I have to note was dessert was good but for me I love extremely sweet dessert. It was very good but not my taste. The cream was very mild which I think was unique and different to more traditional. Just wasn't my taste. To be honest even with that it was amazing dinner. Holding true to our 2026 plan another never before visit, this time to Penelope wood fired pizza. We arrived promptly at 3 pm as we were advised to do, as we had reservations our table was already set with a cold decanter of water awaiting. Our server came right over and took our drink order and provider her suggestions to us first timers. We started with the 3 meatball shareable plate. Man what an experience. Soft tender meatballs perfectly seasoned with a robust sauce that compliments the seasoning of the meat ball. The speed of service absolutely incredible, we had barely finished the meatballs when 2 pizzas and a plate of lasagna arrived. My son never looked up from his lasagna, a HUGE 10 layer lasagna with oodles of meat and cheese in delicious Penelope house sauce with perfectly cooked al dente noodles. He got one to go. Ok so did I. My Pizza, the SGT pepper, light airy crust , garlic oil, smoked mozz, green chilies, a delicious house made sausage and a hot honey drizz. This is an amazing combination of flavors. Mom's pizza, The Nina. Same delectable crust, house red sauce, mozz, ezzo pepperoni, sausage, sweet bell pepper and onion. Another amazing combination. The only down fall, my mother said it was too salty. The staff was amazing! Benny and Sierra were friendly, informative and prompt and a credit to this great establishment. It is easy to see why Penelope has been top 50 in the U.S. for three years running. You want your pizza done right, you have to give Penelope a go. read more

Went to Tucson to get a last-minute passport and stumbled on this gem. 4-star food, 5-star service. We did the Nina pizza, marinated olives, bread with marinara, and the budino for dessert. FYI, they don't take reservations and they do have a HH that ends at 6pm. Alas, we arrived at 6:15p and all tables were already full on this Thursday dinnertime except for the 8-person community table. The estimated wait for two was 10 minutes so we grabbed drinks and headed upstairs to their cute/loft lounge. As we passed the entrance we already heard the host increasing wait time to 20 minutes. For drinks she had got the house red cabernet and for me the bartender and I whipped up a little custom cocktail (see pic). Moments later our table was ready. Note: Penelope operates on a novel "community-waiter" system so don't be confused if a totally different person comes by to: take appetizers, check on you, order entrees, check on you again, and order dessert! We've often had four different staff during a meal here and all are super friendly with experience-filled opinions about everything on the menu. We ordered the Burrata and Tomatoes app which arrived in barely 5 minutes - the cheese is traditionally mozzarella-like but here it was almost ricotta-soft... and melded deliciously with the mildly acidic slices of ripe tomato and lots of pistachio pesto (nice twist chef!). We split the Sgt Pepper pizza this time, craving both sausage and roasted chilis. It arrived in 15 minutes with ample sausage and just a few burnt bubbles (totally ok because we know these thin-crusts must be flash broiled at super high temps (around 1k degrees). We demolished the 'za but both of us would like to have seen a bit more green chili. We were looking forward to the olive oil cake however, at 7pm, they had just sold the last slice (confirmed by our "second dessert waiter" who wandered by a few minutes later ;) Atmosphere is casual-elevated and sound levels aren't bad despite the density of tables - likely due to the 20 foot tall ceilings. Parking is free/easy in their private lot and it appears they do a popular takeout business too. We are both looking forward to their return to downtown this fall with Penelope's II ! read more

I've been here before and loved the food (gave 4) but we were there this week and would say 3 at best. We asked for the pizza crust to be crispy and the server said that the crust is always crispy and if we asked for it they would burn -- so we didn't. Crust seemed not to be quite done in the center (and our experience returning pizza has not been good so did not bother). Lots of toppings, maybe too much -- pepperoni was good and sausage was not. Music too loud. Disappointed. read more

I cannot believe how disappointing my visit was considering Penelope's is on Yelp's Top 100 list. I called to have our pizza ready by a certain time because my guy and I were on a roadtrip and wanted to get our food fast. I showed up, paid, and was not provided with any update as to where my food was until I had been waiting around for 10 mins. The staff had no issues with standing around chitchatting, though. Nearly 30 mins after the time I had requested my pizza be ready at, I finally got it. There was basically no apology from the staff for the long wait either. We got the Sgt Pepper pizza (sub prosciutto for house sausage, add mushrooms and bell pepper) and the Olive Oil Cake. The pizza crust tasted like burnt butter, they cheaped out on the ingredients, sad amount of prosciutto (there wasn't even a piece of prosciutto on each slice), couldn't taste the hot honey drizzle or the green chili salt. The cake was find, but nothing to rave about. Honestly, my guy and I agreed that nothing about the pizza was enjoyable and it was definitely not worth the delay they caused us in our trip. They have a lot to work on in my book and I have zero desire to come back. read more

I went with 3 other friends to celebrate a birthday on a Sunday at 4 pm. We had made reservations and had mentioned the birthday gal and were assured she would get a birthday dessert. This restaurant was very busy (okay), extremely loud (diners + very loud music) and not the most inviting place. We all asked for water to start. Received. Two of us wanted salad, so we asked for a side salad. They don't have those so we ordered a House Salad to split. We got a salad consisting solely of arugula and some little chunks of cheese dressing with balsamic. No other type of lettuce, tomatoes or anything. Oh, we didn't want the onion so they left that off. They split the salad for us, but for $13, a little bit of arugula, dressing and cheese, it was a big disappointment. If we had known, we would have ordered the Caesar with balsamic. At least their would have been lettuce involved. We perused the menu and all decide on the Chicken Parmesan. It was the strangest Chicken Parm we had ever seen. Sorry, no pics. Too chaotic. A piece of breaded chicken with a slight bit of cheese on top of the chicken, WITH a glob of spaghetti marinara piled on top of the chicken topped with a basil leaf. Portion size was small for the $20 price. The dish was very dry. We finally stopped one of the staff and asked for extra marinara sauce even though we were almost halfway through with the entree. Staff members were bustling around but getting their attention was a tad difficult. This was an Italian restaurant and no offer of bread? I also wanted to order a soft drink and had to flag down a staff member well into the meal for a lemonade. I did get the one refill without having to ask. Even though this was on the smaller side for a restaurant, they only had two neutral gender restrooms. There were lines constantly making it difficult to get to the restroom when needed. The place was kept clean and tables bussed constantly, which was good, because tables were small. As we finished our meal, a couple of us wanted boxes. We waited for our server to show up again. He had no idea about the birthday dessert. We told him quietly and after about 10 minutes received the olive oil cake with ice cream and 4 spoons. It was okay but nothing we would ever order. Separate checks were received. Mine was $20 for entree $6.50 for 1/2 salad, $5 for lemonade totaling $31.50 before tax & tip. My bill was nearly $40 for chicken, a bit of spaghetti, arugula (weeds) and lemonade. I felt that was way over priced for what was served. As mentioned, the food was okay, service at times was good, other times not so much. The noise level was too loud, we couldn't even carry on a conversation. I won't return and I doubt my friends will. The good reviews actually amaze me. We saw pizzas being delivered and there were burn spots on the crust. Glad we didn't order one. I had wanted to visit here because of the good reviews that don't usually steer me wrong. This time, they did. Sorry Penelope, you will have to make large improvements before I return. read more

I've been to Penelope a few times now and really enjoy the wood fired pizzas and happy hour drink specials! The Know Better Now Tini with a sidecar of bubbles might be my new favorite! They have indoor and outdoor patio seating, however be sure to get in early or order to-go as they do often get very busy. The customer service is usually great, but just know in advance that you typically do not have one server. Instead they work on rotation, so multiple will stop by to assist or check-in on your table. Penelope was recommended to us by a friend that we trust completely on all matters food related. :) My favorite foodie friend said that Penelope's had "to be the best pizza" he had in years. So...we found ourselves on the Eastside of Tucson and thought the opportunity was there to try it for ourselves. It was Thursday night and super busy! Was there a wait if you wanted a table? Oh indeed there was. We opted for a space at the bar and it was perfect. We had an amazing server named Sam. She was lovely and so helpful! Foodie friend recommended that adambam but since my husband isn't a fan of olives and I'm not a big fan of mushrooms... we decided on the O.T.C. We were also tempted by the Jackie Luna but we will be back and try that one next time. The O.T.C. was super yum! I love ricotta and hot honey so it was totally perfect in my opinion! Penelope is such an awesome addition to Tucson and I look forward to our next visit. Ohhh and they have delicious local root beer from Brickbox (I believe) and I loved it! Rated No. #66 on Yelp's list Oooh I was super excited to try some pizza in Tucson. Each pie is enough to feed one person. We started off with their house-made meatballs!! These balls were FIRE!! That sauce! I licked my plate clean. Really hard to choose which pies to order. I wanted to order The Pammy cause my name is Pamela but I am not a fan of balsamic. Lol. Took us a while to read through the menu but we decided on the AdamBam and Piggy Wiggy. It took 40 minutes so it is quite a wait. So here is my verdict... AdamBam - love the sausages but couldn't really taste the roasted mushrooms. The hot cherry peppers and olives really made this pizza shine. The crust is a winner for me!! It is paper thin with a beautiful crisp and it held up all the toppings well. Piggy Wiggly - you have to like fig jam to enjoy this one. The sweetness along with the savory (prosciutto) really paired well together. Quite a contrast from the AdamBam. As a New Yawker, I will pretend I didn't see some of the locals here eating the pizza with a knife and fork. Lol. We had to end the meal with their homemade Olive Oil Cake with a citrus flavor and vanilla whip. I love Olive Oil cakes!! They are always incredibly moist. Excellent service all-around despite some of the negative reviews about it. Kwon took amazing care of us and it was so cool that he is from New York too. We came one hour after it was opened and snagged the last table. Reservations are recommended. read more
