I was pleasantly surprised with this place. I am a lone traveler and found out I would have to wait 30 minutes for a table, I wandered over to the bar for a no wait, full service experience. Circus atmosphere. Lauded by the Lubbock locals. More Texas than Mexico. Inauthentic. Yet some acceptable tastes. I would venture that they're using a fair amount of sugar. It's ok, huge portions. Priced right. But it really isn't Mexican food at all. Extremely loyal and enthused staff, nice service. As a visitor from Los Angeles and Denver area, and having lived in Albuquerque for 14 years, I am rather selective when it comes to Mexican or New Mexican food, the latter I have grown weary of. I definitely don't understand the place. If I were 21, a UT student, here with my buddies, drinking Cervezas, and most notably, splitting the plates. (Portions are ridiculous) and not coming strictly for the cuisine, I'd be all over this place. At the end of the day, I found the taste of the flautas acceptable; too much meat; they need more time in the fry-er and in a higher temperature oil to be more tender; again, I sensed sugar of all things; retried beans not tasty at all; tortilla chips worse than what you can buy in a bag at the supermarket. I did like the queso - hatch salsa. But that is as authentic as a whopper with cheese in Mexico City. It's the number 2 restaurant in Lubbock. So??? It's more a reflection of the people in Lubbock than of anything Mexican. read more

Overall, an alright experience. The food is made from fresh ingredients, and tastes ok, but this is definitely a low brow establishment. Not a place to enjoy a good dinner, more like a place to go out when you are in college, or you have a large family with a bunch of children and need to eat cheap. The music is way too loud, the place is overcrowded, and the garish interior does little but assault the senses. If you have twenty bucks and you are really hungry, this would be a good bet, but if you are looking for a place where you can hear yourself think, avoid it anytime after four PM. read more

Let me start by saying the food is fabulous. The waitstaff on the other hand was atrocious... not in a blatant kind of way. But more so in a pushy, impatient manner. I found myself having that quizzical look of "Did he just say "that" like "that"?" And my dinner guests also had that same look to the point we had a discussion about it at the table. Best place to eat in Lubbock , by far. Ask for the creamy jalapeño sauce with your chips, its free and so delish. The only thing I have to complain about is that they have brought out the wrong order on a couple occasions, and instead of comping it or giving us a discount, they charged us full price for their mistake which was more expensive than the item actually ordered. read more

We drive in for all the home football games at Tech and almost always eat here. For one, it's consistently delicious with fast & friendly service. I have 3 boys under six years old, and we rarely have great restaurant experiences but this is an exception!!! read more

The place is very good for happy hour. I live in Austin and our daughter goes to Tech. We like the one on 183 and the Barton Springs location in Austin very much. We have eaten at the one in Lubbock three times and its consistent with the locations in Austin. Real good. Started out pretty rocky or maybe we were just road tired, but ended up being a great meal. The staff and manager both addressed initial issue, and being long time Chuys fans from original Austin location, it was great to get an AWESOME hatch burrito at 10pm after a day on the highway. read more

The food was Okay, I have better at other locations in Texas. Disappointed by the way a mother was treated when she was feeding her baby at the table. The mother was prompted by two of the staff that if she wanted to breast feed her baby she had to do it in the bathroom. REALLY!!!!! Would you eat in the bathroom? Why would a baby have to eat in the bathroom? The mother had her breast covered but a receiving blanket. What is the problem, Is Chuy's too PC for breast feeding mothers? Horrible. Took 10+ minutes to order queso-had to eventually (after 3 polite request) stand up&ask for more chips. 3 simple taco plates came out incorrect/cold. After asking for side of sour cream for the 2nd time, I was questioned as to whether I'd ordered it from the waitress. Food came out wrong the 2nd time, the manager did not have the respect to come speak to our table. Worst experience EVER! I am a chuys lover! I have eaten at chuys all over the state and NEVER have I had an experience this bad. The server didn't greet me for 12 minutes, when he finally did he just asked "what do you want to drink?" I told him what margarita I wanted and I sat there for a good 27 minutes without a drink, not even a water! I had to waive him down and then he grabbed my drink which was watered down from sitting at the bar so long. After he finally brought my drink, I didn't see him again for another 20+ minutes. I waived him down again and when he came over he asked what I wanted to eat and I told him I didn't know because he never gave me a menu. 10 minutes later he brought me a menu. I gave him my order for chicken fajitas. When they finally came out, they were pink. I found a few pieces that weren't and tried to eat the pieces that didn't look raw.. it was rock hard. I tried another few bites and it was all fat and totally disgusting. I waived the waiter down again and asked for my check and told him about the fajitas. He didn't apologize, he just brought my ticket and left. Hands down, worst experience I've ever had eating at a restaurant. I waited tables for 10 years from high school thru college and NEVER did I treat someone the way he did. Pathetic excuse of a restaurant. NOT all chuys, but this ONE. Very disappointed because I was here for work and all I wanted was chuys because it's usually always amazing. Never again would I come here, to this Lubbock location. read more

I've eaten here many times since they opened and the food is always consistent and the staff is very good. I like the Chile Relleno and the Beef Fajita Salad but I can't think of anything I've had that I didn't like. read more

We came because a family member likes Chuys in general. I got two tacos - one chicken and one beef. I was not excited about either, but the beef was yuck. I can make better seasoned ground beef in my own home. The service was great - brought us extra chips that were very good and good salsa and Jalapneo ranch dip, but the chips could not outweigh the other food. My eating partner got the chicken burrito and said he would rate it a 3 star. If I lived in Lubbock I would not go back unless someone else was paying and they bet me they could find me something I would like here. read more

I am a big Chuy's fan but not this location. We waited an hour for our food which 2 of them were served wrong! The waiter didn't care about our needs. I had to ask for chips & water over & over. My enchiladas were served with 3 small pieces of chicken. I did talk to the manager Colton. He was nice and remade them for me and didn't charge me for that dish. Horrible Experience. Will never go back. We have never had decent service there but tonight was the worst. Thundering and lightening and they seated 20 women on the patio that they knew would flood. Had to rush through our meal, shoes ruined as we sat in standing water. The waiter was concerned and told us to speak to the manager. He replied it wasn't their fault it rained. Went here for my boyfriends birthday. There are so many options on the menu, it's hard to decide! I ended up getting the chile relleno stuffed with chicken and a beef taco. Chuy's was very busy at 4:00 pm on Saturday, but we were seated immediately. Tommy our server did a topnotch job with service. The food was as good as we had expected. It was consistent with one in Austin and one in Dallas. We have been to the Chuy's in Lubbock three times and will return. My only criticism is the noise level. The seating was terrible a very tiny table barely enough room for the four of us. As far as the food goes... it was good. I love that they have queso sauce option for enchiladas. I have only eaten here once while visiting family in Texas, but I was very impressed. I ordered a roasted chicken burrito and enjoyed it very much. I always order fajitas at my usual Mexican restaurant but Chuy's did not have the option of squash and zucchini as the veggies that go into the fajitas, so I chose the burrito. I was stuffed after only eating half of it. The salsa was good and fresh tasting. I like my salsa not too hot like this salsa was. It was a bit watery, but it was flavorful. The atmosphere was laid back and the decor was interesting. They also sell some very cute and fun t-shirts that promote the restaurant. Overall, I was pleased and would eat there more often if I lived in the area. read more

My first awful restaurant experience. My order was mishandled 3 times. Even after very specific instructions. Simple, no sauce or peppers please. I was extremely nice to the server about the issue but I guess she just didn't feel like paying attention. How can I put this constructively? We waited 30 minutes to be seated, even though we called ahead for reservations. They then said they no longer take reservations. Then, we were seated outside on the patio. It began to rain and pour, but we had a covered porch so it was ok. The waiter warned us, "you might want to pick your purses up, theres water on the ground." I thought that was the least of our problems. I wish I had pictures to show how deep the water got within 5 minutes. I came straight from work and my shoes I need got pretty ruined from the water. The waiter said at the end of the meal, "Please go talk to our manager, he's not listening to me." We talk to him but it was a waste because he belongs at a club rather than a restaurant. I love to go to Chuy's for happy hour. Delicious salsa and queso and FANTASTIC margaritas. They change seasonally but they are all delicious, the dark cherry and blood orange are my favorites. During happy hour, getting a margarita and Chuy's sopaipillas will be the best decision you make all week. Their soft tacos are great as well. They serve a different type of rice each time I've eaten there, not sure what that's about but it's always pretty good. I've always had wonderful service at this restaurant. I tried this restaurant shortly after they opened. Awful. Bad food, bad service. Tried it again yesterday. I arrived at 11:00 and waited along with 14 or so other people ten minutes because....they were in a MEETING! It took them over five minutes to seat all of us who got there on time. The food was some better than it was when they opened but yes it is still very bland. When I spoke to the manager while waiting for the check because the waiter forgot about me, I gave her a note I wrote on a napkin expressing my opinion that they were disrespecting their customers when they keep us waiting to conduct a meeting. She said --but we have a new menu and we had to tell them about it. So apparently they use OUR time to do their prep work. I told her that was bad planning. Not me, not again, not ever. Didn't offer to comp anything or try to make it better except IN THE FUTURE depending upon me to come back again. As if. I know good green chile sauces and Chuy's doesn't have them. read more

Ate there last evening for the first time. Got there about 4:30 and the place was already hopping. Noisy environment but to be expected. Service was slightly above average at best. Had combo beef and chicken fajitas and chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas were very tasty. The chicken fajitas meat was also very good. The beef fajita meat was tasty, however it had more fat on it than I like, and expected, and were tough. Would not eat them again. Saw a huge ground sirloin burrito being consumed at the table next to us. It looked great. Will probably give it a try next time around. The house margaritas very pretty good. The beer was cold and was served with a frosted glass although the price was a little high by my standards. We were there for about an hour and a half and by the time we left there was a wait of over an hour to get in. All in all it was a good visit and we will try them again in the future. read more
