We eat at Chuy's about every other week. My parents brag that this is the "real deal" (Tex-Mex, of course). The food almost always comes out quickly, and the staff are helpful if there is an issue. Love all the enchiladas, appetizer sampler, and fajitas. Only thing I would like to see is a "lighter fare" menu. Offering oodles of Tex-Mexican style dishes, plenty of different sauces, and a wild atmosphere with floor tiles that appear the installer was drinking on the job. Thursday night, no waiting for a table for two but the place was hopping. Cold frosty beer, tasty Nacho appetizer had a thicker tortilla shell which made difference holding all the good beans and cheese like a champ! For the entree, I had this thing called a Chuychanga. A play on words of the establishment's name and a chimichanga, but a healthier version, I'd say. I think it was less fried than your more 'traditional' option. We went to Chuy's last night for dinner. It was a Thursday night. We were seated right away. The table the host offered us was not good. We asked for a booth. Half the restaurant was empty. Host said that there was no available booth and "we closed that half of the restaurant for the evening." The table we sat at was directly next to the kitchen entrance. Constant foot traffic and noise. Strike 1. We got chips and salsa. The salsa is not my favorite (Uncle Julio's salsa is much better); this salsa looked weird and foamy. Salsa tasted okay but we got one small dish and never offered a refill on salsa. Also on prior visits here they offered at least one other dipping option (green and creamy?) alongside the salsa. Not this time. We ordered food, drinks and a guacamole appetizer. (Note that the chips are super thin and will immediately break if tying to dip into guacamole.) We received the appetizer we ordered and drinks but then nothing. It was an hour at least before our dinner was delivered. Not acceptable. Strike 2. The server did not even come out and explain why we we were waiting an extended time or what happened. I almost left because it took so long. The next issue was the quality of my food. Not good. I ordered fajita chicken soft tacos. I asked for the guacamole on the side. Instead, server brought me two flour tortillas with three small pieces of incredibly dry, almost inedible pieces of chicken and all the taco toppings on the side, which seemed to intensify the dryness of the meat. It was as if the chicken had been cooked hours, if not days, prior to being served to me. I took maybe two bites and could not eat it. Awful. Strike 3. I do not want to ever go there again. I would not recommend it to anyone. When we left there were three (3) employees just chit-chating and laughing at the host stand. Great. I am glad you three employees are enjoying your evening. The manager is extremely rude. I was picking up a Delivery order and followed the instructions by the restaurant. It said do not enter the restaurant call and or text the restaurant and wait outside. It must have said 3 or 4 times do not enter the restaurant, in bold print. I texted and no one answered for 3 minutes. I called and the manager hung up on me 3 times. Finally he answered the 4th time around and told me NO I had to come inside. I say no in caps because that's how he said it. Then when I asked his name he told me that he was not gonna give me his name. He told me he was the only manager there. The other employee told me that there were two managers there. Tortilla chips are included with salsa and an amazing creamy jalapeño dip. I ordered chicken fajitas and they were the best fajitas I've ever had! Came sizzling to the table on a bed of onions and peppers. A cold set with lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole was delivered to the table first. We came here on a Saturday around 5:15 and one thing we noticed right away---the hype and the novelty haven't died down yet. People were streaming into the place, mostly large parties of 6-10 people! So...we ventured in and asked the host how long did he guess that the wait for a table would be. He said "20-25 minutes". We said "Okay" then got our beeper. Meanwhile, more and more people were coming in and we overheard the host tell one large party that the wait for a table could be 1 hour! As for us---the wait was probably closer to 30 minutes. That said, once we were lead to our table, service was prompt. Our waitress, Jasmine, was friendly, efficient and patient. I say patient because the place was extremely loud and we had to ask her to repeat herself a couple of times. Soon after taking our order, she brought chips and salsa plus glasses of water. She told us that since the bar was really slammed our drinks might take a little while. Chuy's makes their chips and tortillas in house. We thought that the chips were on the thin side as they broke rather easily. The salsa was spicy yet on the watery side. While we enjoyed it, we've had better. The one thing we did like is that they didn't overload the chip basket. This is a good thing because it kept us from filling up on chips and salsa. The drinks arrived without a long wait. My husband had a Coors Lite while I had their house frozen margarita. The margarita was on the bitter side but still tolerable. For dinner, my husband had enchiladas with cheese and onion. I was surprised that he ordered this as he usually orders enchiladas with beef when we go to Mexican restaurants. This dish consisted of 2 enchiladas with Tex Mex sauce plus Mexican rice (you can also choose to have rice with green chilies instead), refried beans (you can also choose charro beans instead). He really liked the enchiladas saying that they had good flavor. Also, he was pleased that there were only 2 of them since most places give you 3 which is just too much. I ordered chile relleno with cheese and ranchero sauce. I, too, had the Mexican rice but chose to have charro beans. This dish also has a side of pico de gallo which is topped with 2 jalapeno slices. My first thought on seeing that there were 2 chile rellenos was "Oh no! I'll never be able to finish all of this". But---surprise! surprise! Both of us easily finished our meals! The charro beans were very flavorful---I would say the best charro beans I've had in any Mexican restaurant. Most places serve ones that are very bland. We were impressed that, despite the steady stream of diners, the restaurant stayed right on top of things. The servers were prompt when getting to their tables. Food runners bring out the food so it gets to the tables quickly. Plus our server checked with us a couple of times to see if everything was okay. Kudos to the management team here both front and back of the house! Before the tip, dinner cost $33 + change. We noticed that their prices seem to be somewhat cheaper than other chain Mexican restaurants and as a result, they don't overload you with food. We would go again. However, we will probably wait a while before going again to give the hype sometime to die down. So if you go soon, be aware it gets busy very early on Saturday nights. read more

G and I came here for dinner the other day. We arrived at around 5 pm and were seated immediately. As it got closer to 7 pm, the restrauant started to get really packed. The hostess are super sweet. Our server, Karen was wonderful. She was knowledgeable, attentive, and had a lovely personality. Their Happy Hour is on Mon-Fri from 4-7 pm. All you can eat Free Chips, Salsa, Queso, Taco Meat, and Pulled Pork. Sweet! Gotta love queso. Their Frozen Margaritas are delicious. Our meals were well prepared, seasoned perfectly with generous portions. Tres Leches was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. It's a generous serving and perfect for sharing. Their Flan is delicious as well. Definitely worth trying. Good company and good food. Love the laid back ambiance of this place and the decor is awesome. Ordered the chicken quesadilla without the salsa and extra onions. My order came out wrong and the chicken quesadilla was bland. The sour cream had a funny taste to it. I had to stop eating or possibly get sick. I ordered dessert and the Tres de leche is something I don't see myself ordering again. You do get a a lot of Tres de leche for your money. I recommend sharing it with someone. In fairness the place has friendly staff members and the atmosphere is pleasant. I enjoyed the decorations and the bar area. Just had my first Chuy's (pronounced Chewy's) experience. It's a unique Mexican flare that excited me, from reviews and other people's experiences, so I had to try. A breakdown of the food and service. Chips and Salsa: These weren't the best. The chips are very good, albeit paper thin. The salsa was watery and had no flavor. I've had better at other locations. Grade: D- Tortilla soup: Great job! These folks got it down with the cheese! Nice amount of hearty chicken and veggies and a hot cup (I ordered the smaller size) and it was awesome. Next time I think I might order a bowl and call it a day. Grade: B+ Southwestern enchiladas: The secret to the flavor I found? Black pepper. But okay. The enchiladas here are stacked and not rolled, but they taste good too. Really nicely done. The rice and charro beans had too much pepper to taste which almost ruins the dish, but the packed flavor of the enchiladas saves the day in the end. Grade: B Flan: Some of the best I've had. It was awesome. Not too rich, great flavor, and a great size. All their desserts looked good, but that's a great way to finish up. Grade: A+ Service: I sat at the bar being I was a party of one. Me, myself, and I. Mike and Lisa, the bartenders were superb and awesome song make for great conversationalists. Mike made the food selections and Lisa was a great ear and knows how to talk to customers and be involved. They also were very passionate about the restaurant and gave me some boom boom sauce to taste (awesome sauce), and it shows. The staff generally looks very happy to be there, and it shows. Grade: A --- Overall I was very pleased here. The food is alright, but great service amongst the ability to present was what made the experience special, and hope to replicate again in the near future. We decided to treat ourselves to Fajita's for Friday night ... not bad, but their flour tortilla's were a bit funky tasting to me ... and the guacamole that came along with the side had obviously been sitting in the fridge all day (or more), because the outside was brownish/black! Honestly, I'm not a fan of the overall experience but I am a fan of their chips and salsa, thus the 3 star rating. There's plenty of 'host' staff available at lunch time but the wait staff was lacking in presence. We sat outdoors at one of their 5 available tables. The menu had a nice variety but was 'lacking' in lunch specials. With all the fabulous lunch specials throughout the city, I was expecting some sort of lunch discount. I opted for the Fajitas based on photos from other yelpies...and no my surprise, my fajita looked nothing like the other photos. I had TINY strips of meat on my hot platter and lots of onions and peppers. The rice was lacking or lagging behind in quality. My dining partners ordered the fish tacos and the chili rellanos. No one really 'raved and jumped all over the food'. Came to Chuy's For Dinner tonight with my mother and bro. No wait time so that was good. I don't usually care too much about ambience but Chuy's has this weird living room feel to it. I mean most people think it's cool but to go from bright colored neon lights outside and a hodgepodge wall display it definitely throws you off a little. Food: Appetizer we decided on the Panchos...basically speciality nachos...tostadas chips topped with chicken and other nacho toppings. Review: the tostada chips actually held up awesome crunch not soggy like most nachos and was even still warm by the last bite. Probably the freshest tasting nachos I've had in awhile. Entrées: Mom decided on just getting tortilla soup. Which she enjoyed there were big pieces of pulled chicken. Very fresh looking. Brother ordered the fajita combo with steak and chicken he said it was pretty good he loved that they handmade their tortillas. Myself...prehaps I got a bit greedy wanting to try everything so I got the Comida Deluxe.... cheese enchiladas...a ground sirloin crunchy taco, 2 chicken flautas. 2 chips dipped in queso served with retried beans and rice. Review: the flavors were really fresh but they just didn't wow me everything was kinda just decent. The handmade tortilla was what made the enchilada so good. Ranchero sauce was okay nothing special. Flauta...was a bit disappointing it was basically a chicken wrapped in a tortilla it was like an afterthought. I mean I'm glad it wasn't just filler but it still just lacked. The two large chips in queso were good I just wish the queso was actually a side of queso not pre dipped chips. The crunchy taco was good...meat was nicely seasoned the taco shell tasted fresh. Rice & Beans always an afterthought at every tex mex restaurant it's just plain filler for the plate. Overall Chuy's is decent it's not amazing tex mex and it's nothing that's really out of the box for me. Although chips and salsa were fresh and really good. So if I come back to Chuy's it's probably going to be for happy hour and for more chips and salsa. I think it's definitely a place to try if you haven't. Went to Chewys in Woodbridge VA last night. My son ordered a beef burrito. We had to send it back. My son found 2 crawling bugs. One was in his rice and one was IN his burrito. He was so grossed out he couldn't eat. The manager came over and apologized. Offered something for him to go. By this time we were all grossed out and didn't finish our appetizer and asked for the check. This in my opinion should have been handed differently. It just never comes out right - it's either loaded with sinew or it's mealy (that is why I HATE lettuce wraps...yuk!). Chuy's chicken taquitos are very good and the chicken is grilled breast chunks. I really like it and that is very unusual. You could tell by the looks of it that it was good. The service is getting better. It's not perfect. It appears they cannot seem to find good greeting/hostess folks at the front. There's always a special place in my heart for mexican food. My hometown doesn't have a Chuy's so I had never heard of the restaurant prior to my move to Northern Virginia. As soon as I walked in, I saw the vibrant colors, and creative T-shirts that were tied to pop culture and realized I had stepped into a restaurant right up my alley. We were brought chips and salsa while we looked over the menu and man those chips were fresh. We got a side of the jalapeño ranch per a friends recommendation and oh my gosh that was bangin! We got a round of margaritas for happy hour; blood orange margarita for the fiancé, Texas martini for me, and a black raspberry margarita for my friend. We sipped and passed our margs around and man they were tasty. My Texas martini was a martini made with tequila instead of vodka and it was on point! I got the comida deluxe; a platter with a little bit of everything on it. Everything tasted great, crispy flautas, cheesy enchiladas, and did I mention the chips and salsa? The flan was bigger than normal portions you'd find at other tex-mex/mexican restaurants. It was drenched in a light caramel syrup and topped with whipped cream - absolutely delicious. Their menu is huge, almost overwhelming for first timers. But after spending some time to navigate it we saw many things that sounded good. We were pretty hungry so we ordered their super nachos to start. They also brought out chips, salsa, and their creamy jalapeño sauce (AMAZING!). I ordered custom enchiladas with the sirloin topped with their Ranchero sauce, very yummy. And my hubby got their big as yo face steak burrito with the creamy jalapeño sauce. Their portions were huge. We shouldn't have gotten an appetizer, our eyes were WAY bigger than our stomachs. But it was all very yummy. We also ordered a tres leaches to go.
