Los Carnales has a great setup, especially if you enjoy sitting near the action. The bar area is spacious with plenty of seating, and we chose to sit right at the bar. The ambience is lively without feeling cramped, which makes it an easy place to settle in after work. Happy Hour: Their happy hour is definitely the main draw. The large margaritas are priced extremely well, and when the mix is right, they're excellent. The only downside is consistency -- sometimes the drinks have a good balance of alcohol, and other times they taste more like lemonade and feel watered down. The appetizer prices are also great. We ordered the fried wings and Mexican rice; both were okay and edible, but not particularly memorable compared to other spots. Service: Service was generally good, but with only one bartender covering the entire bar, there were stretches where he disappeared or was tied up. Nothing terrible, just not the level of attentiveness you get at places with more staff behind the bar. Overall: Despite the inconsistencies, we'd come back. The margaritas were bland and I feel they just came out of a big mixture instead of made to order . Even though the restaurant opened more than a year ago, I finally got the chance to try it out. Great service and I love the friendly and caring staff. The mango marg was huge and delicious. I got BBQ ribs, steak, and chicken fajitas. The chicken was a little bit on the dry side, but overall, it was still a great dish. I definitely will be back to try out other dishes. read more

Both were perfectly balanced and potent. Not sure which I liked more. The chicken, beef, and chorizo fajitas were flavorful and tender, while the chips in the queso dip were light and airy--totally different from the crispy chips and salsa, which were also great. Was looking for a "hit the spot" Mexican sit down restaurant after a great day at king spa. Johan was a magnificent and attentive server. He was able to identify how to veganize my meal which is not something every server or kitchen knows how to do unfortunately. He also made our drinks which were yummy! The spinach enchiladas was a 10/10. I was skeptical at first but wow I want to replicate this meal at home. The spinach and roasted onions with the sauce was perfect. We were here for Father's Day lunch, and were pleasantly surprised not to have to wait for a table. We received fantastic and prompt service--Ailin was especially friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and delicious. I was excited to see platano quesadillas on the menu, and I have to say they are the best ones I've had so far. If you like cheese and fried plantains, give them a try! While we ate inside, Los Carnales has spacious outdoor seating, and if it had been a nicer day we would have loved to give it a try. We so badly need a solid, good Mexican restaurant in western NOVA. Los Carnales has the potential to be that spot. The service and interior prevent me from giving less than 3 stars and the food prevents me from giving it 5 stars. We all had burritos or chimichangas. The pulled chicken is solid but I think they tried to simmer it in a tinga-like sauce, but it was too salty and wet for a burrito. The flavor of the Mexican rice was diluted by the frozen carrots and peas. I would suggest get rid of the peas and carrots and consider putting the rice in the burrito with better seasoning, onions and peppers. The refried beans were homemade but the flavor was very lacking. The plates were plentiful and the prices are fair, but the flavor has to deliver! I will gladly come back again and again if the chefs can tweak the flavor. I am rooting for you! read more

I ordered the beef chimichanga, my husband ordered the masita de puerco and our kids ordered a kids chicken burrito and cheese quesadillas. Overall, I thought the food was tasty. The pork was a little salty though. I really enjoyed the chimichanga. The meat was a short rib rather than ground beef, which is what I was expecting. It was very flavorful. Service was consistent and quick (my food came out in like 10 minutes!), food was DELICIOUS. I had steak, chicken and shrimp fajitas and hubby had the skirt steak and shrimp and HONEYYYYY - those steaks were seasoned perfectly. Shrimp was so flavorful and the sides and veggies that accompanied our dishes were fresh and complementary. Drinks were also super tasty - I'm not usually a frozen margarita girl (they're usually too sweet and syrupy tasting to me), but the frozen sangria margarita mixed with lime was amazing. I love Mexican food and I am in Herndon for business. I always search yelp for restaurant choices, yelp never lets me down! that is true for los Carnales. The hostess was super sweet. The waiter was excellent and the food was just delicious. I have to say the queso was not the kind that I like but still very good. Served with fried flour tortilla chips, there's salsa was absolutely delicious and the taquito appetizer was the best taquitos. I think I've ever had. For dinner I have the chili rellanos which I absolutely loved. When I was leaving three people said goodbye and thank you for coming. This place knows exactly how to run a restaurant.
