Although I don't usually dine in because the eating area is rather small and could need a little upgrade, the food has always traveled well. We usually order 1-2 pounds of the duck, char siu, and pork belly and 10 out of 10 times I have not need disappointed. They also offer lunch portions of rice and noodles. Oh. My. Granny. I'm speechless. Everything was sooo freaking delicious. Tried the Peking Duck for the first time. Although pricey, it's worth EVERY penny. Comes with crepes, hoisin sauce, sliced cucumbers and sliced green onions. Even half the duck was more than enough for two people. The BBQ chicken was so moist and full of flavor. The roasted duck was exquisite. The employees were helpful and provided details on what we were ordering. They also had a great sense of humor. Casual eats, Cantonese bbq place in Katy asian town. We ordered a won ton noodle soup 9.99 and a roast duck noodle soup 12.99. 5%off if pay cash. Noodles were excellent but the soup base needs improvement. E.g. add leeks instead of green onions; add taitei fish powder; provide a soup spoon instead of a teaspoon. Roast duck was outstanding and freshly made but wish it was hotter. You may want there or to go, but parking on a Saturday even at 140pm was challenging. My family and I grabbed lunch here during our day trip to Houston. We ordered the BBQ duck and BBQ pork belly, as well as rice. The duck was some of the best I've ever had! When I get Asian BBQ meats, I don't typically love duck since it's more fatty and the skin isn't crispy. I usually go for pork belly or chicken. However, Chung Wang's duck was great! The skin was crispy and the meat was tender and flavorful. It paired well with the rice. The pork belly wasn't my favorite, since the skin was a bit saltier than I would've liked. It was definitely crispy though. They only had soy sauce, which tasted kinda diluted or more like the BBQ meat juice. I do wish they had the ginger scallion oil to go with the meat. Service was a little long and we had to remind them to make our order, but no big deal. Inside has tables to sit and enjoy a meal instead of takeout. I'd highly recommend coming here for the duck. We were in the area and wanted to grab something simple and comforting for lunch. As soon as we opened the door we were greeted by the sweet and savory aroma of Chinese BBQ, we knew we were in for a treat. This is a very small restaurant with limited seating so if you want a table it's best to get there before the crowd. Customer service was amazing and very patient as we were deciding what to order. You order your food at the counter then grab a table. As we were waiting for our food, we noticed a lot of people were doing big orders to go and lots of phone in orders as well, that's when you know the food has to be good. Soy Sauce Chicken and Roasted Pork Belly on Lo Mein (4 stars) was really delicious. The chicken was really juicy and cooked to perfection. The skin on the chicken was paper thin and not fatty at all. The sauce had a nice sweet/savory and some umami. Roasted pork belly had a very nice crispy skin but the meat had a little more fat then we would've liked but overall the flavor was on point. The vegetable that came with it was very tender and really compliments the fattiness from the pork. The noodles were amazing, great flavors and had a nice chewiness to it. BBQ Pork and Roasted Duck on Rice (4 stars) was also very yummy! BBQ Pork was really tender and juicy. Sometimes I find BBQ Pork a little too sweet but this establishment had it right. It was probably our favorite meat of this meal. The Roasted Duck was very good, it's not the best but we've had. Surprisingly I really loved the simple stir fried cabbage, the flavors were very subtle with nice texture and crunch. It's nice to know that you can get delicious Chinese BBQ without having to drive to Chinatown. My wife and I tried this place once with a special event shortly after they first opened. While we were impressed, the place is far enough away that we weren't able to make returning regularly a thing. We did hear that they were struggling due to the pandemic, so we made a point of driving out to Katy again specifically to order from them. Pretty much everything on the menu is fantastic, but the star of the show is their peking duck. It comes pre-separated with everything you need to make those perfect little "tacos". They do a great job of packing it to go that keeps it warm even over long distances. We also got some of their BBQ Pork fried rice, and some of their tea. It wasn't the thai tea we'd had previously, but it did have a nice Jasmine flavor. The only issue with our order was that we ordered a full duck, which was probably better suited for 5-6 people, not the three in our household. I was driving to the restaurant, mouth watering from the idea of crispy Peking Duck, then I get a message that my order was CANCELLED. I was confused and I was almost there, so I figured I would just go and ask them about it. If I knew that the servers were so rude I would drive back home and never leave my house. I walked in and asked why my order was canceled, and the server just said that it was all sold out, I was surprised since I had ordered TWO DAYS in advance. I asked why they didn't reserve one for me since I had ordered online, and they had the audacity to reply with the same answer. "ITS ALL SOLD OUT" No sorry at all. I asked again, but I was more irritated. They said it was FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. So apparently it doesn't matter if I ordered online and my family was anticipating delicious duck. ( If it was available but they still talked to me like that, I wouldn't want to support them) So I left because I didn't want to faint from their toxic energy. luckily I was able to go to a better restaurant and got some chicken instead. Overall, I will say that this spot has my favorite roast pork belly in Houston and the most similar to the roast BBQ you will find in HK. The skin is usually very light and crispy, one time it was a bit soggy but I threw it in the air fryer and it crisped right back up. The meat is also very flavorful and the fat is rendered out nicely. I've tried their other meats a few times as well and while they are solid (although sometimes the duck is a little bony for the price) I keep going back for their pork belly. However, I have noticed that sometimes they over charge you. The first time I noticed it I just let it pass thinking it was an honest mistake and it's not worth saying something over a few dollars. But, the same thing happened to me again yesterday. The receipt also doesn't say how much meat you got per lb and the base price. With them asking you to verify the weight and paying attention to the other things it gets a little chaotic so I didn't fully do the math before paying. I asked for 1.5lb and it ended up being around 1.9lb which is fine but I ended up paying more than I should have when I went home and thought about the price per lb. Again it's only a couple dollars but still makes a difference if they are doing this often. If it weren't for the charge discrepancy and some bony pieces of duck it'd definitely be a solid 5 star for the pork belly alone. I will definitely be more vigilant about checking the price before I pay next time and update my review accordingly, but just wanted to warn other people to check as well read more

There are about 10 tables, and all of them were dirty as well as the floor. Someone did come around and wipe down most of the tables a few minutes later. The only soft drinks are can sodas or bottled water. This is really set up to be more of a takeout place with enticing looking barbecued meat hanging in the window. As far as my meal -- The portion size was OK. I could not eat the pork belly. Inedible. Each nugget was hard as a rock. I was expecting a crispy, buttery fatty bite of meat that has been cooked down and rendered. The duck was good, though beware of bones! The lomein was just a plain fried thin egg noodles with two pieces of sautéed bok choy. If I wanted to order a half a whole barbecue duck I maybe would come back to this place. Super authentic Chinese food (they even hang the meat up in the window like they do in China)!! The staff are so friendly and truly care about their customers! I would highly recommend any duck dish! The duck is cooked until it is tender and juicy, each bite is delicious! My family got the roasted duck on rice which was amazing because the sauce from the duck mixed with the rice added so much flavor. The seafood noodle soup was also delicious. The seafood was bursting with flavor and the noodles were chewy and fulfilling. The highlight of this dish was the soup - I am not sure what is in it but I would drink buckets of it. Went here early in the afternoon and saw that their chicken, ducks, and all meats looked fabulous and were all plump and glistening. However, since we already ate, we didn't get anything. We came back towards dinner time and decided to get take out. There were people in the restaurant eating their takeout and it seemed pretty busy. It might be because it was towards the end of the day, but the meats no longer looked fresh and everything looked not that appetizing anymore. I still feel like that shouldn't be the case because they probably would have cooked new meats throughout the day. Roast pork - skin wasn't crunchy (fail). They serve it in a styrofoam container so I'm assuming it steamed a bit and made the skin soggy. The pork was tender with a good flavor though. I could safely recommend Chung Wang Chinese BBQ having the Best Chinese BBQ in Houston. I order a premium 3 Sampler Platter by asking specifically for Roasted Pork Belly, Roasted Duck Leg, and Royal Chicken and paying just a little more. First bite into the Roasted Pork Belly and I was sold; crispy skin, favorful meat. Royal Chicken too is so well marinated that the meat has all the complexity, but the Scallion Ginger Oil that comes with it does add more to the dish. The piece de resistance is bestowed upon the Roasted Duck, crispy skin, fatty, savory, with an explosion of spices. I'm so happy picking every little piece of meat from the bones. There are other Chinese BBQ places in town, but I think Chung Wang definitely is the leader among a capable pack. The key factors that make them my top pick are: meat is well-marinated and seasoned, no sauce is needed; meat and ingredients are of good quality. The staffs are friendly and helpful and the chef and cook are experienced, culinary veterans, I can tell from the plain Stir-fried Yu Choy that is cooked perfectly, not too raw and not soft, with just a thin coat of sauce. I should preface this review by saying this type of food isn't really my favorite so that may factor into my feelings toward this restaurant but I'll try to break down why I feel Chung Wang BBQ earned 3 stars from me. Let's start with the good: the prices are reasonable and everything comes out quickly because most of the stuff is pre-prepared already. I also like how all the combos come with a drink- slightly gimmicky but worked on me! Now the bad: the lo mein was greasy even by lo mein standards. The pieces of duck we got in our combo had little to no meat on them. Disappointing. Also, the bbq pork was pretty fatty. And finally, the ugly: the health score of this restaurant cannot be high. When you go to bus your own table, there's a giant bucket by the trash can with a colander perched atop it for you to pour any soups/liquids, etc into. It was GROSS. So so gross. That alone makes me not want to come back. I get what they're trying to do but it was absolutely disgusting. Oh, and the bathroom was not a pleasant experience either considering this place hasn't been around that long! For starter, they are difficult when it comes to food delivery services. They are not on DoorDash, GrubHub or UberEats. WHICH IS FINE AND NOT THE END OF THE WORLD BUTTTTT they are listed on Favor. Recently tried to order thru Favor assuming the Favor driver would just go in person to order or place the order for pick up over the phone but my order ended up being cancelled because the Favor driver informed me that as soon as they called to place the order (for a Favor pick up), the employees at Chung Wang refused the order. Not sure they know how Favor works... GrubHub has a delivery service/option for the "Katy Asian Town" and it includes a lot of the restaurants in shopping center - with Chung Wang being one of them but reviews are terrible and looking at the price list/menu, cost is extremely high! That being said, BE PREPARED TO HAVE TO PICK UP ON YOUR LAZIEST DAYSSSSSS. I have had Chung wang about three times now since moving to Katy in 2020. As of October 2022, I don't think I'll be back. Pricing is very inconsistent. They have a menu online, menus printed and menus posted all around their store but none of the pricing matched. I walked away spending $50 for 1.5lbs of roasted pork and half a duck. I could get all of that for under $30 in china town. INFLATION, I GET IT and I'll happily pay if the food is worth it but as a restaurant, they need to have clear and up to date pricing shown at all times. Roasted pork belly is extremely fatty. Which isn't a bad thing. The bad thing is - they don't keep it under a warmer. Here I am expecting to take a bite into a hot, crunchy piece of pork only to be dissapointed with cold, staleness and loss of crunch. Not to mention, they need to step up their seasoning game. Each time I've had it, I feel like it's gone more and more bland. The half duck was primarily bones. Barely any meat on any of the duck. Again, seasoning was not done well. Duck skin tasted rubbery. The last thing I'll mention is that the store does not look presentable at all. I just can't help but feel dirty stepping in there. Take a look at the floors, the counters, the ceilings, the fridges etc..... Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of hole-in-the-wall chinese BBQ places in Houston that look like this and some of them are bomb dot com. Average Cantonese bbq. Nothing particularly special but they have all the staples, whether it's the char siu or the crispy pig or duck. I tried the crispy pig and maybe it was because it was at the end of the day but it wasn't particularly crispy or that seasoned. The char siu definitely has a honey sweet profile but again the flavor is lighter than what I'm used to. If you're in the area, it will scratch your itch for siu lap but there's definitely better in town if you're willing to drive. read more

I swing by here every two weeks to grab some bbq pork and pig to bring home for a few days. If I want the food as a meal I'll grab the rice plate to go. Great food and good service. Frustrated and sad with how ChungWang BBQ in Katy operates their business. Not sure if I was the only one experiencing this? Was charged a higher price at the counter several times -compared to price listed on the menu -compared to price listed on online order receipt Their reason to this is that price changes everyday and so they could not provide menu with the most updated price for months. I have never heard of any other restaurant doing this. On top of that, they charged us the price of roasted duck lo mein when we ordered wonton lo mein. Reason being, the price of wonton lo mein is not in their system yet. We used to love this place but I guess we would never go back again.
