Orange juice is filled half way. Room temp water is given to you....in a desert. Really? Had to practically beg for ice. Food: pozole of the day which was green pozole with chicken. It was good, flavor was there. Moms Red Chilie Chilaquiles : good, a bit on the sweeter side. The pork in it was good. Chula Farm Bowl : sub par. The "chorizo" in it tasted and had the consistency of over cooked ground turkey. Pretty much a funky breakfast salad with an egg and carrots in it. Service: pretty much non existent. Get up and get everything yourself. You order up front and you're not tended to again. Desserts: peanut butter cookie was great. The rest of the deserts are okay, a bit dry. The sourdough chocolate chip cookie was a bit on the hard side and had too much sea salt on it. To the older lady up front taking orders: Have more patience with people, if you can't handle high stress environments maybe you shouldn't work in the food service industry. A MUST TRY! Chula has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the desert. They have a wonderful assortment of healthy, unique, and delicious brunch entrees that blow my mind every time! The staff are also very friendly and helpful, and the decor is so cozy and cute! It's certainly not traditional Mexican food (as I expected), but they offer a wonderful selection of gluten free and vegan foods. I ordered the breakfast burrito which was the best I had ever eaten! My friend ordered Mom's Red Chile Chilaquiles and a side of Brioche French Toast which consisted of thick cut brioche, charred strawberry jam, cinnamon whip, seasonal berries. Unbelievably yummy! First time in this area and was craving brunch, specifically huevos rancheros. Husband and I found many places but decided on this restaurant because we wanted to support local businesses that supports local farmers. It's a small casual place but the ceiling was very high so it feels spacious inside and they were able to accommodate small to larger groups. Maybe I had high expectations of this place because of the reviews for this dish. However, it was disappointing. The service was okay, I'm sure the servers were doing their best. We got seated right away, sat outside but it was cold so we moved inside. It didn't take long for the server to take our orders. However, we waited a long time to get our food and It was only two items. It got busier as we sat there and waited for our food and I didn't get any refills for my coffee, which is not a big deal for me but might be for others. The server finally brought the food and it was not hot, it was luke warm. The dishes we had was Okay, lacks seasoning but we were hungry so we ate it all up. I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying this place but in my opinion, the dishes we had was not as tasty as we had thought. read more

Just finished breakfast at Chula's. Not very satisfied. Started with the fritters, they were crispy with good flavor, but too dry. Then I had the Mom's chilaquiles. It was super dry, short on flavor and needed more toppings to make it better. I asked for red onions, lime cream sauce and more of the red sauce. I still needed to add Chilula sauce and salt and pepper to make it tasty. The server, a young girl we initially had, started a conversation with another table and left us waiting so her coworker had to step in. The new server (older woman) acted surprised when I stated that I needed extra sauce because it was too dry. At the end of the meal, the second server wasn't around so I asked the young server if we could get the bill. She looked past me and acted like she hadn't heard me. We were only six feet apart and I spoke clearly. The second server then came out and asked how our meal was, and if we were 'ready for the paperwork'? When I reiterated about the meal being so dry, her answer was, "Well, we've never been told that before!" which is a statement that is trying to invalidate my feedback and an assumption that I'm wrong. I told my husband to just pay a 10% tip and left the table because I was miffed by now. After having a poor dinner the night before, I was very disappointed by the food we experienced in La Quinta. We would have been better off with the good cheese and bread we had bought at Trader Joe's on our way in town. I just read some other reviews and saw that someone else had the same server we had, "a condescending older woman". I felt exactly the same way about her. And the owners responses reveal a sense of arrogance that means they are never wrong and anyone who isn't happy with their food should just "go find their happy place" elsewhere. Good luck. Love Chula! I've been a few times and everything I've had is so delicious. Both the chilaquiles and nachos are to die for (and pretty similar, actually). The nachos are definitely up there on my list of favorite versions in terms of taste. They could use more chips...they only give you like four so it's really more of a casserole. I have to remember to ask for more chips next time. But they are fantastic nonetheless. Barista drinks and baked goods are all great too. Not a huge space (love the wall of windows which makes it bright and more spacious-seeming) and always packed -- especially after they were featured by Guy Fieri (despite not being a diner, drive-in, or dive). They cram in as many tables as they can. Not ideal if you don't like sitting really close to other tables (or for the staff who have to wind through the maze) but it makes for a lively atmosphere. There's often a long wait to be seated, even in the summer off-season, and there's not much shade around outside and zero room to wait inside. So be prepared. But will it be worth the wait? Yes. So excited for the new Indian Wells location to open, where they'll also serve dinner! read more

The Esquites are served warm in a bowl ...roasted corn, scallions, cotija cheese, smoky paprika, lime...I'm probably forgetting something but it's incredible. This really should be a 5-star review, but here is why I couldn't do that: our first meal there was perfect in terms of flavors, portions, service, ambiance but probably a bit overpriced for what it was. No biggie there. Our next several visits were made hoping to repeat that first, perfect experience and we were let down by at least one major thing each time. Once it was that they forgot to entire one of the entrees for a member of our party. Another time our food took nearly an hour to arrive and one of the entrees was stone cold (chicken enchiladas). Both times, the staff made it right by comping one of our meals, but the experience was ruined because each time one person in our party was not able to eat with the rest of us. That aside, everything we have tried has been excellent, except the burger which is just okay. Not bad, but not great. My favorite is the chicken enchilada dish that is served in cactus tortillas with tomatillo sauce. Amazing! The place is tiny so bring your patience and stop at the pastry counter on your way out - everything in it is incredible! Worth every penny. read more

I really hate to write this review because this is my favorite place, and the food is exceptional! I had family in town and of course I wanted to take them to my favorite spot. With that being said, I understand that it takes time to be seated here and the food takes some time also. When I come here, I understand the service might be a little slow, and I won't be out quickly and I'm totally OK with that because the food is amazing! What I'm disappointed with is every time I walk in to the front door no one ever acknowledges you for quite some time, even though they make eye contact and they see you're waiting. I get it they're busy but at least someone say we will be right with you. Maybe they need a sign in sheet or computer log in for the wait. Today was inexcusable service I've ever encountered to be seated here! It took 10 minutes for someone even to acknowledge we were standing in front waiting patiently to add our name. Then we were told it was a 15 minute wait. Mind you it was busy but there were several tables open, but they needed to be cleaned. We were OK with waiting I know the drill here. Shortly after I noticed a couple walk in after us and they were seated outside. I thought that was strange, but again I'm patient and wasn't in a rush so we just kept waiting. After 20 minutes, I went back inside to see how it was going. The tables had been cleared, and the waitress proceeded to tell me we can't seat you until we set the table up. Totally understandable, so I went back outside to wait and then 20 minutes later I had to walk in to see how things were going again, but I still seen the table, empty with no place settings. My friend had mentioned to the waitress we were waiting and we noticed some other people had been seated before us and the waitress told him I had said we wanted to sit inside. That was not the case I was never asked where I wanted to be seated. After that conversation we went back outside and waited longer. The 15 minutes took 45 minutes just to clear the table and set utensils up. It wouldn't have been a big deal if we could've been seated and at least had some water and look over the menu, it would've bought them 15 minutes while we chatted and chose what we wanted to eat. Finally we get seated shortly after that and I made sure everyone was ready to order as soon as we were asked about drinks. To make matters even worse when I ordered the french toast I asked to waitress to have them cooked well done and to my surprised the waitress kind of made a face and said " I'll asked them to do that but that doesn't mean it will come out like that" . I was so embarrassed for my favorite restaurant to have such a bad introduction. I was convinced I had to write this review no matter how I feel about the food. Respectfully ...I really hope the owner takes the service into consideration. I'm OK with the slower service and having to wait but today was embarrassing bad service. The service today I would rate it 2 stars and on a good day I would say 3. If I had to rate the food it's 5 star for me! It's the reason I come back over and over again and bring my visitors here. I really love this place and I would hate for this to keep happening. read more

Found this place on Yelp and so glad we did. It's perfect for brunch after an early morning tee time! They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Been here a couple times now during our trips to the desert and each visit did not disappoint. Food is so flavorful and nicely presented. Portions are just right too.
