07.07.2026 Hubby and I were here for a staycation when Little O was vacationing with cousins in a different state. We had breakfast two of the three days inside this restaurant. The first day we had the breakfast buffet and the second day we ordered off the menu. The buffet had many hot items. There was a bagel/bread station with a large industrial toaster. In addition, they had a fresh fruit station, juice station, cold cereal station, and Greek yogurt station. There was something for each of us. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I made myself a lox bagel with cream cheese the first day. I couldn't find capers anywhere. Our server took the time to go to the main kitchen to grab some capers for me. They were these HUGE capers about the size of a medium black olive. I thought she misheard me and brought me "peppers". But no, they were actually ginormous capers. I'm bummed because I forgot to take a picture of them. It was so cool! We sat out in the patio and had it all to ourselves. There were a lot of families the entire time we were there so the peace and quiet was very relaxing.
I dined at Tia Carmen twice during a recent visit to the Grand Hyatt, once for dinner and once for breakfast. BREAKFAST: The Mercado (buffet) breakfast has two options, one of which is only cold items and the other includes hot breakfast items and made to order omelets. Service was very good, there was a wide variety of options in the full buffet. I don't eat omelets and they were happy to offer me any other style of egg to go with my breakfast. During the Mercado breakfast their a la carte menu is abbreviated, they don't offer the chiliaquiles or benedict. DINNER: The dinner experience was trying too hard while missing out on the basics of what makes a good meal. + Service was good. Dishes were cleared quickly, servers were friendly, and they comped my dessert as I was celebrating. + The tuna crudo was amazing. Honestly if this was the only thing I had eaten I would have left raving about the restaurant. The broth was light and bright, the flavor was perfectly balanced, and the tuna had great texture. +/- Crispy brussels sprouts: These started out so good and I would still recommend them to other diners. However, there was so much honey added to the dish that it settled at the bottom of the bowl making the last layer of brussels sprouts taste like you were just eating spoonfuls of straight honey. - Roasted Purple Yam: This one had the makings of a good dish, but the yam was only lightly cooked, so it didn't attain that carmelized flavor and silky texture that would have elevated the dish. Instead, all of the vegetables: yam, baby carrot, and baby parsnip were still hard enough that it took some force to cut them, an endeavor made more diificult because they were served in a small bow balanced on top of a plate of corn kernals that shifted and moved as pressure was applied with the knife. The mole was extremely good, but just couldn't save the dish. - Market Fish a'la Plancha: The fish was well cooked, flaky and juicy. The mojo verde was very good, but there wasn't enough to balance out the mildness of the fish and add enough flavor. To be fair to this dish, I ordered it without the pickled onions, the acidity of which probably would have helped. The Israeli couscous was served in a simple tomato sauce, which reminded me of Spaghetti O's. - Flan Manchego Cheese: I believe this dessert fell victim to putting form over function. The flan, which has a more jelly-like consistency than I'd expected from a flan, is covered in a mountain of shaved manchego cheese designed to make a striking visual appearance. However, if you eat all that cheese it both completely overrides the flavor of the flan and turns into an unappealing chewy mass in your mouth. My advice if you order this is to remove at least half, if not more, of the cheese before eating. It's pretty good then. One final note, if you're short, the tables with booth seating are not for you. Both the benches and chairs at these tables are low compared to the table. I'm 5' and felt like I needed a booster seat. The chairs at the tables without bench seating were taller and more comfortable.
I splurged here. Staff were very friendly. Ambiance is upscale. I had to make reservations a week ahead of time. Food was delicious. I mostly ordered side dishes as I am mostly vegetarian. Would highly recommend this place. I cannot express how incredible our experience was at Tia Carmen, between the incredible and dedicated staff, unbeatable food and beautiful evening ambiance. Henry specifically was our server and was mindful of our experience, and my dietary preferences, his recommendations were absolutely superb for every single course. A true professional! he had recommended the Tomahawk steak to split between my partner and I, with several appetizers- I initially thought it would be too much food but Henry was right all along. Each appetizer brought a thoughtful and creative plate of insane flavor to us and we couldn't have been happier! We also had the pleasure of interacting with Miguel, who was humorous, helpful and full of knowledge about their specialities and history. It was truly amazing. This was our first time to Grand Hyatt Indian Wells, and Tia Carmen. With how genuinely delighted we were, we will for sure be back. Thank you Henry and Miguel!!!!
Tía Carmen is worth the trip all by itself! How this place does not have 5 stars is crazy!! I genuinely don't know where to start because Tía Carmen at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge absolutely blew us away. We originally planned on trying different restaurants during our stay, but after our first meal here, that plan went completely out the window. The food was SO good that we ended up eating here every single day for breakfast, appetizers, drinks, and dinner. We loved the food so much that we actually extended our trip an extra day! Dinner was phenomenal every night. On our last night, we decided to go all out and order the Wagyu steak, and WOW. It did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the trip. The appetizers were fantastic too, and their blackberry lemon drops became a daily occurrence for us. Seriously, do yourself a favor and order one. And then there's BREAKFAST. I have never been this impressed by a breakfast buffet. The selection is massive, but what makes it special is that it isn't just a buffet with a million mediocre options.. everything we tried was actually delicious. Fresh fruit, berries, yogurt and granola, smoked salmon, meats, cheeses, pastries, hot dishes...there were endless choices, and everything looked beautiful and tasted even better. The ultimate test? Our picky 13-year-old loved it. If you have a picky teenager, you know that might be the strongest endorsement I can give. He found something he loved every single time we ate here. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous. The natural textures, beautiful wood, plants, lighting and open design make the entire space look like it belongs in a magazine. Even the presentation of the buffet and individual dishes is stunning. You can tell that a tremendous amount of thought went into every detail. The service was just as impressive as the food. Everyone we encountered was welcoming, attentive and made us feel genuinely taken care of. By the end of our stay, coming down to Tía Carmen felt like part of our vacation routine and we looked forward to it every single day. If I had to give one criticism, it would be the fish dish we ordered. It had far too many bones for us and was noticeably less flavorful than everything else we tried. It was the one miss in an otherwise exceptional lineup, and honestly, with everything else being THAT good, it wouldn't stop us from coming back for a second. Tía Carmen wasn't simply a convenient hotel restaurant, it became one of our favorite parts of the entire trip. When a restaurant is good enough that you eat there every day AND extend your vacation, I think that says everything. Beautiful atmosphere. Incredible food. Fantastic cocktails. Wonderful service. Unbelievable breakfast. Absolutely a 5-star experience. We would come back just to eat here again.
very nice restaurant located inside the Grand Hyatt Indian Wells. we were staying on property a couple nights and only partook for dinner one evening. it tends to get very busy for breakfast, but, we managed to get seats right away for dinner, albeit outside, but, luckily it was only in the 90s. the menu is not very expansive, but, the offerings we chose were very delicious. we started with a tuna crudo with a green thai curry that was absolutely the best part of the meal. we were initially perturbed at the size of the item, but, the flavors more than made up for it. kids ordered a burger w/fries and a pizza. i ordered the ribeye and mama ordered the catch of the day which was a sea bass. we also ordered a side of brussels and corn. food was all good. kids pizza was huge. steak and fish were cooked perfectly. corn had some gummy cheese on the bottom that was not nice. brussels were good. overall, a good dinner with exceptional service. i would hope they add some salads to the menu.
Tia Carmen was an exceptional experience! The ambiance was romantic and cozy, and the food was spectacular. We came as a party of four for a double date and ordered the tomahawk - absolutely delicious, and they even top it with bone marrow butter! The tuna crudo was another favorite; the corn coconut sauce was to die for. The fluke crudo was interesting with the banana - a bit unexpected and threw the dish off slightly, but still worth trying. We also ordered the yucca brûlée, grilled octopus, and the beets and cheese. Dessert was the flan manchego cheese, and it ended up being my favorite dish of the night besides the steak. The combination of the flan's sweetness with the salty Parmesan-like cheese was the perfect balance - such a satisfying way to end the meal. Loved the entire experience and would definitely recommend!
My rating was between a four and five so 4 1/2 would be about right. We loved our server, Kevin. He was outstanding at explaining the menu, which is a bit confusing and telling us what to order. He was spot on. We loved the vibe of the hotel, the ambiance in the dining room, and many of the dishes. The little ball's are called pan frito, the crudo, the tostada, the crispy Brussels sprouts, and flan were all excellent and we would order those again. The halibut would have been tasty but this one was dry and probably overcooked. The filet minion was tasty and cooked right, however the bone marrow and mole were these tiny little dabs on the plate beautifully adorned with flowers but too small to add much flavor . My picture didn't come out unfortunately. So next time we would skip the two entries and get other things for the three of us to share. The portions are on the small side. One other thing that knocked them down a half a star is because the vodka martinis were half the size of most upscale places and were $20 for absolute and 23 for kettle one per glass. This is a fun and tasty special occasion place for sure because it's fine dining, great service, upscale and more interesting cuisine and for that I give them 5 stars.
We had dinner here as a family. It's inside the hotel and dimly lit with beautiful decor giving a very upscale vibe looking in from outside. They have a kids menu they bring to the table that's not shown outside in the lobby. The hostess and server were so friendly and helpful. Great recommendations from the server on what items are most loved. We enjoyed all our courses which included the Tuna Crudo, Beets & Cheese, market fish and Carmen Burger. The kids loved their butter noodles with cheese as well.
We have been wanting to dine here since moving to the CV over a year ago. Now that we finally tried it, we will return again and again and bring all of our guests too. It's a gorgeous spot in the Grand Hyatt, a place where a staycation is now in our future. Our server Kevin was phenomenal. His recommendations and storytelling skills were spot on as he brought each menu item to life. We each chose a cocktail (with Kevin's help) and they were delicious. We then ordered, to share, the Pan Frito, Romain Salad, and the Market Fish a La Plancha (halibut) with the Yucca Brûlée side. All phenomenal. As a wonderful surprise, Kevin came with a 2-piece Whitefish Crudo (fluke) for us to sample; he said Chef wanted us to try it. Again, phenomenal food and impeccable service. We did not leave room for dessert, but will certainly return for more and to try their buffet brunch!
I love this place. I swear that the experience is high end. The food has an experience, the customer service was elite, this is the best restaurant I had ever eaten at!. Kevin was the server and he gave the best recommendations from the beginning to the end. We started with the amazing pan frito, to the tomahawk steak and ended with the best mousse dessert ever. All was recommend and amazing. I will 100% be back when I visit again!thank you for the amazing service.
Blown away by the taste and the presentation by this incredible chef! If you are in Palm Desert/Indian Wells this restaurant is a must visit! Absolutely amazing delicious beautifully presented greatest quality of every single dish! Loved every minute of our experience! Get the octopus, get the farmer's fish! Get the caramel rosette for the chocolate lovers, you won't regret it! Bravo chef and Thank you for being so awesome!
An amazing culinary experience!!! Wonderful food, new concept, excellent taste. This restaurant is inside Grand Hyatt Indian Wells resort. Definitely recommended for everyone who stay at the resort. Their executive chef is ANGELO SOSA. A lot of interesting dishes, but taste extremely amazing With the kind of food that they offered, price is very reasonable. We ordered the fluke crudo, chicken gulsado and lamb barbacos. The last two are family feast which comes with different pairing of side dishes. Dessert is equally great as well. Service of this restaurant is one of the best one that I experience. All servers are excellent in recommending us drinks and dishes. And explaining to us in details. We gently mentioned it's our son's birthday as it's his first time drinking alcohol. And they secretly brought out a wonderful dessert for us as a surprise! EDIT: Three cheers for our server Yolanda R. The best server ever. We met her again during breakfast 2 days later and she still remembered us and bring my son another special mini cake for his birthday!!
I've eaten here 5 times now in total- and I can save with confidence that this is a place. I look forward to coming to when visit this area. Well done Chef Soso Excellent service followed by some really delicious dishes make the experience absolutely wonderful. Reservation is not very hard to get since they're a big Restaurant, but I recommend booking in advance. The cocktails are all right, but I come here for the food. Some of the favorite things I are recently were Corn tostada Nutella caramel dessert (don't have the exact name) Crudo- fluke Brussels sprouts The only thing I didn't enjoy was the main course and the fish of the day, which was the halibut, but that was mostly a me problem rather than a Restaurant problem. We tried the Mercado breakfast buffet at Tía Carmen, and overall it was really nice! The spread had a great variety, from standard pastries, fresh fruit, and made-to-order omelets to unique Southwest dishes like green chile pork, birria, and tres leches French toast. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. Beautiful space and a great way to start the morning if you're staying at the resort. read more
The service was nothing short than perfect. I had the best experiences here both breakfast and twice for dinner that my daughter and I enjoyed this past weekend. All staff are amazing and so friendly. They go above and beyond to make our experience amazing. And it was!!!! The food omg!!! I can't even tell ya'll. It was quite special and very memorable and delicious. I would def return and stay another weekend and enjoy their delicious food. Our server on night 2 they were out of the dessert my daughter wanted so they gave us the flan manchego and took it off our check. And it did NOT disappoint. Never had anything like it. My daughter was on cloud 9. Also wanted to get into the buffet style breakfast we had our server I believe name was Adrian he made our experience extra special. He was so nice and would tell a ton of dad jokes to my daughter. I tell ya. This resort is something special I did not expect. I loved everything about it. And staff is 10/10. The ambiance is upscale but relaxed, with a beautiful desert inspired aesthetic. It feels warm, sophisticated, and inviting without being overly formal. read more

I love this place. I swear that the experience is high end. The food has an experience, the customer service was elite, this is the best restaurant I had ever eaten at!. Kevin was the server and he gave the best recommendations from the beginning to the end. We started with the amazing pan frito, to the tomahawk steak and ended with the best mousse dessert ever. An amazing culinary experience!!! Wonderful food, new concept, excellent taste. This restaurant is inside Grand Hyatt Indian Wells resort. Definitely recommended for everyone who stay at the resort. Their executive chef is ANGELO SOSA. A lot of interesting dishes, but taste extremely amazing With the kind of food that they offered, price is very reasonable. We ordered the fluke crudo, chicken gulsado and lamb barbacos. The last two are family feast which comes with different pairing of side dishes. Dessert is equally great as well. Service of this restaurant is one of the best one that I experience. All servers are excellent in recommending us drinks and dishes. And explaining to us in details. We gently mentioned it's our son's birthday as it's his first time drinking alcohol. And they secretly brought out a wonderful dessert for us as a surprise! EDIT: Three cheers for our server Yolanda R. The best server ever. We met her again during breakfast 2 days later and she still remembered us and bring my son another special mini cake for his birthday!! read more

This place was a pleasant surprise to find in our hotel. The waiter was well knowledge and explained all the dishes and the background of the food and chef. We were very impressed. The dishes were unique and though sounded strange, all the ingredients paired very well together. I recommend ordering and sharing so you can try all the dishes, especially the deserts. All the dishes had twist that was enjoyable. The only downsize was the bill, it was quite pricey for the portions. The cocktails were also very good. read more
Tia Carmen is an amazing restaurant that sits inside in a beautiful resort hotel! The service presented very kindly and welcoming providing a great dine in experience. Located inside the grand Hyatt this restaurant is the fancier of the restaurants on site. We has mostly appetizers but everything was delicious and well portioned. We had the pan frito, chicken croquettes, the tuna crudo, Octopus, beet salad and a kid burger. The croquettes seeemed to be more cheesy than chicken. The beet and cheese salad was great. read more

We stayed at this hotel and have done brunch at Tia Carmen twice. Everything we ordered was amazing and the service is stellar. Ruben, our server, stood out to our table at one of our brunches. He was very attentive, and always had a smile on his face. We will definitely be back next time we are in town! read more

We had a fantastic dinner there, but the morning's breakfast service was a huge letdown due to the unprofessional staff. When I first asked the restaurant host in the white top if this was the location for our room's two complimentary breakfasts, she simply said she didn't know, leaving me to check with the hotel front desk myself. Once confirmed, the young lady in the black shirt responsible for seating became incredibly rude. She treated us with visible annoyance and acted as if scrutinizing our breakfast benefit was a huge hassle. Furthermore, our table server (an older woman) was initially very cold and expressionless. However, because we remained completely polite, she eventually softened and started offering drink refills toward the end of our meal. The contrast between last night's wonderful dinner and this hostile breakfast environment was baffling. We felt unwelcome just for using our hotel benefits. Very disappointing. read more
My experience with Tia Carmen is only at breakfast. On weekdays this place is dead. We came on a Friday morning for breakfast and they were empty. Yet the service was slow. The food was expensive but expected for a hotel. Unfortunately, the food was not the best. The pastry basket was subpar. It's something you can get at the store. The birria eggs Benedict was OK. The birria was dry at the ends. The next day, we had their brunch buffet which was much better. For the same price we spent the day before, we got way more! I like their Jamaica juice. I liked their omelet station. It was a bit a strange that they had it outside of the restaurant but it makes sense since there is little room inside. I give Tia Carmen 3 stars for food and price. I gave them 4 stars due to the excellent service by our waiter at the buffet. read more

Located on site at the Grand Hyatt Indian Wells. We came here for their breakfast buffet and thought they had a solid selection. All the options fulfilled our needs - omelets, sausages, scrambled eggs, shredded beef and pork, breakfast potatoes, oatmeal, smoked salmon, and a variety of pastries and fruits. Comes with drip coffee and fruit juices too (specialty smoothies and coffees are an additional cost). Service was great - friendly and attentive! read more

So happy to have a restaurant with an upscale menu and ambiance in the desert. It's been long overdue! Although it's a restaurant in a hotel, it doesn't have hotel restaurant vibes...if that makes sense? Beautiful decor, more high end than anything I've been to in the desert, and a lovely menu with so many unique dishes. We started with pan frito, which is very much like paõ de queijo, if you're familiar with that. Tasty but with a honey butter and honey drizzle, so sweet more than savory. We had many dishes and enjoyed them all. The mushroom menudo was fantastic. The Caesar salad perfectly seasoned. The cabbage with mole was amazing!! We also had the esquites which were good but not my favourite. My friends also got the chicken guisado a la Carmen and loved it. Had a jewelry box dessert thing...nice presentation of a box with a few bites of different desserts. We also had some chocolate cherry thing which I didn't love but that isn't a combo I enjoy, ha. I'd love to come back again. Great service, and just an amazing menu with so many veg friendly options! read more

We stayed at Grand Hyatt Indian Wells for Spring Break and stumbled upon Tia Carmen. Was excited to see that this was Chef Angelo's restaurant from Top Chef. Always wanted to try his food. We ordered the Pan Frito, Corn Tostada, Ribeye, Tuna Crudo, Market Fish and Brussels sprouts. Everything was delicious. Our dessert was the Le Citron, yuzu white chocolate ganache. Delish! The service was great, only critique was food was a little slow from appetizer to entrees. Overall great experience. Would definitely go again. read more

We had a great meal and the chef was amazing. Our kiddos love the steak and we ordered ice cream and chef Daniel made it extra special for them. Our server ( Miguel) was kind and took care of us. I highly recommended eating here! Jidori chicken!!!!! read more
We had a very unique experience at Tia Carmen. I would love to give this restaurant 5 stars because the food is amazing and the flavors are 5 stars. Sadly, the service there was less than sub par. I don't want to bash this restaurant as clearly there are many kinks to work out, but they are also very aware of how understaffed they are/were. We ordered the tasting menu and although the portions were very small, the food was excellent. Also, the chef came out to apologize about the service and was very generous making it up to us. I would love to give this place another chance! read more
Chef Angelo Sosa from Top Chef created this beautiful restaurant experience. Miguel, our server, provided too notch service and a dinner experience for us. Everything we ordered was beautifully presented and had complex fresh flavors. Our kids ordered from the kids menu and enjoyed gourmet cheeseburgers. The sea bass and trout were fabulous as were the two soups we ordered (chicken stew and mushroom menudo), romaine salad, esquires and truffle, and elote. We ate outside on the beautiful patio.
