So, i have been meaning to come to this place for years, i bike and play soccer around the area so i know it existed, today decided to check it out. Sometimes i get in the mood for out of the blue cravings, i hadnt had a reuben sandwich in a min and this place popped up. Drawn by the rave reviews, I stopped by for lunch the other day with my boyfriend and ordered the Spaniard Skillet ($10), which comes with house made chorizo, corn, tomato, onions, and hash. Food was good but not particularly memorable. I like my skillets to come to the table piping hot, with the edges starting to develop a wonderful, slightly burnt crispiness. However, the food came to my table perhaps warm at best - not sure if it had been sitting out for a little too long. Flavors were what you would expect if you threw together the listed ingredients - nothing more, nothing less. Service was polite and efficient. Interior is casual and eclectic, with one side of the establishment for dining in and the other with a small grocery section. Aww Chuck's. Got takeout there on Friday afternoon, ordered the pork belly sandwich and a make your own skillet. Pros: Chuck's has reasonable pricing and appropriate portions so you're satisfied but not bursting. Their online system is easy to use and you can put add ons/substitutions (for some reason their skillets usually only come with 2-3 ingredients? I say, load it up!). Big honkin slices of bacon make every dish hearty. If you're paying $10 for some bacon, there's a reason. Cons: Some of the food feels poorly put together. The pork belly sandwich was simple and tasty, but the skillet we had was clearly not cooked together, every ingredient was just heated up separately and put in a container together. Takeout order inexplicably had no silverware, so we ended up eating the skillet with our fingers. Keep waffling between 3 and 4 stars for this one. read more

Ordered from Uber so I can't say anything about the inside. Looking on the menu online, looks mostly breakfast items but has some sandwiches. No sides were mentioned so had to call and ask. Sandwich comes with chips or hashbrowns. I ordered the BLT with chips. Really liked it and was a nice size. The avocado was a great addition. The chips were bigger than a normal portion and kettle cooked! My only complaint was I asked for whole grain bread and they gave me white. Would order here again. read more

My fiance and I came here for sunday brunch. We sat outside (theres only a few outside tables) and very limited seating inside as well. I had the Even better with Cheddar breakfast sandwich which was very yummy. The break was toasted perfectly. The sandwich I believe was around $9 and didnt come with a side. I would have liked a side to come with the sandwich. I also had the 3 mimosas for $13-15 (around there) and had a choice of several fresh juices. Tangerine was my favorite. Very delicious and refreshing. Service was a bit slow but it seemed like one waitress was handling all tables so kudos to her. We werent in a rush so it was fine. I will be back to try out their dinner options. Street parking is available and a short walk to other restaurants and bars. read more

The folks here just catered an event (60ish people) at our gym this past weekend and they came through big time! With pretty short notice they made us some delicious bbq style platters with different salads and sides, chili, cornbread and even tiramisu. Not only did everyone *love* the food, the service was above and beyond. Tracey was helpful and courteous from the moment we chatted on the phone. Food pickup was totally seamless - Grace even came by our space and helped us with a minor issue we were having. It all went off without a hitch, thanks to Tracey, Grace and their team. We already loved Chuck's and dine-in semi-regularly, but this made us love them even more! I'm already looking forward to working with them again...any excuse to get another bowl of that chili and cornbread...don't miss it!!! read more

Overall: Terrible service, crazy long wait, and underwhelming food. This is my first ever negative Yelp review. This place has so much potential, which makes it even more disappointing that we had such a bad experience. We (party of two) waited around an hour to get our food, but we tried giving the benefit of the doubt and assumed that they were short-staffed. However, there were at least three servers walking around this rather small restaurant and not once did we get offered a coffee refill during our hour-long wait. My water cup was also empty for at least 20 minutes. We had to ask for a refill once our food arrived. When the food did arrive, their specialty skillets didn't even need the hot pads that they came with, because they weren't hot. The french toast was actually very good, but even that was topped with multiple pieces of inedible strawberry hulls. This place has a great menu and nice atmosphere. I'm surprised that our experience was this bad. read more

I'm updating my review after returning a few more times. Chucks menu is great, the decor is on point but the service is terrible. I do not think this is the wait staffs fault. I think it's because they probably lack the training nor do they priority set. We were here this morning and our waitress was also doing prep work for the chef, so she was very busy, however she neglected her customers needs. We watched a couple walk in and sit down and Gabby looked right at them as they sat down. She did not welcome them. Then she went on, prepping and ignored them for at least 10 minutes. Once they put in their order they were completely ignored, again. They never received their drinks and in fact their order was never actually put in, as the waitress was too busy prepping to take care of customers at the bar. This story completely shows how we were treated as well. I don't intend to come back again, as every time we are here and it is busy, the service is awful. read more

As several people have similarly complained, the service is atrocious here. My girlfriend and I came in on a Saturday morning when it was reasonably busy but not slammed. Nothing that should have brought a properly trained wait staff to its knees. We waited for over ten full minutes before our drink order was taken, which was followed by another ten full minute wait for the actual drinks, which were dropped off without pausing to take our food order. By the half-hour mark without having even ordered food, we'd decided we had enough and asked for the check. Another interminable wait while the staff did eight million things and looked confused/resentful of the customers. In the end we left what cash we had on the bar and walked out, probably never to return. read more

So I've lived in Baltimore for a couple years now, but just recently moved to Hampden. I've been wanting to try every restaurant I can - specifically anything with breakfast, as we've been trying to find our go-to spot for weekend breakfast sandwiches. This was a top result here on Yelp and I wish I could say it didn't disappoint. Firstly, when we walked in, it was super unclear if they served you from your seat or if you needed to order at the counter. After sitting at the bar for about 10 minutes without any acknowledgment (it was busy, but there were about 4-5 ppl behind the counter and some open tables *shrug), I finally went to the counter and ordered. She was confused when I told her we were sitting at the other end of the bar and told me they'd serve us. I ordered one of their skillets and my bf got their version of the Cuban. I'm already ranting, but in short, I'll just say that their food was pretty mediocre. It's also incredibly overpriced for what it is. My bf's sandwich was $12 and came with - I kid you not - three chips lol. His sandwich was pretty small and I'm from LA, so I'm used to these prices, but he was aghast and this is def off for Baltimore. My skillet was just ok. All that to say, I'd probably go back to try it again and give it another shot, but it's not super high on my list. read more

This is the place for homecooked tasty food! Left side is a small grocery store stocked with local produce and a meat/cheese counter. To the right is the lunch food counter with log stools for 9! Breakfast consisted of french toast made with sugar bread (!), bacon egg cheese on a bagel and loads zekes coffee. Top it off with some nice neighborhood dudes working the counter and you've got the makings of my new neighborhood breakfast spot! read more

I have been here several times. The food is really good and the vibe is fantastic. Today I ordered from uber eats, because I was feeling lazy, and the uber eats drivers sat in one spot for 40 mins and never picked up my food. When I contacted uber, the driver finally declined the delivery. Luckily, when I called Chuck's they were so helpful. They remade my order immediately so that the food was fresh and still hot. They made it easy to pick up. After 85 minutes of dealing with uber, Chuck's came through. I highly recommend supporting this business. read more

This place was like a throw back to a western saloon. Happy hour starts at 3PM and my vida soda was only $6.70. Food and drinks were not expensive. Loved the music. My friends and I ate a cheese streak, shrimp & grits. Drank vodka, tequila, and beer. And the three of us were out of there for less than $50. The location is off the beat and path. I have been in here forever and it's not even busy. I asked for water the waitress through the water and silverware at me. To the point that i jumped. The wait staff is beyond rude!! I have been in here 45 min just for breakfast. I had to go to the counter to get a coffee order. I chose to eat here before going to meetings I ordered steak and eggs latte and cheese grits. Not hard to do at all. I literally do not want to tip. The service is appalling. The toast was cold and hard. I dare not ask for a butter knife for the toast I don't want to be stabbed. The staff is more concerned about their cell phones than customers. I came here prepared to eat relax and tip but this aint nyc it hampden and it should be a better experience. It wasn't even busy. I didn't even get hello. I cant even put this on race or that it eas just me dining this place is unacceptable. It has really gone down hill. I didn't end up drinking the water, bother with a box or deal with the empty sauces at 10 am. I am leaving a modest tip bc its rude not to but just go somewhere else trust me to spend your money. Went here for a brunch based on the reviews. The staff was awesome and the food was made to order. Pretty cool dynamic inside and had an area for bar seating near the bar and near the cook. With one cook it is almost impossible for them to successfully serve the amount of patrons I've seen there now on the weekends. Whoever is making the coffee now should be severely punished as it is essentially water. The food is still delicious but if you go when it's busy your potatoes will be undercooked. If someone mentions to me that they know of a good egg dish - you can bet that I'll be heading there soon. Pictures of the egg skillets at Chuck's Trading Post in Hampden have been popping up on my Instagram feed for a few months now and I knew I had to give them a try. On a recent Saturday morning I needed to run to a store in Hampden so I decided it was the perfect time to taste these egg skillets for myself. I started the morning with a cup of iced coffee. This was nothing outstanding, but it gave me the much needed boost of caffeine that I needed to get my day started. The menu at Chuck's has eight skillets or you can build your own. Usually I like to go with the build your own option, but the Rancheros really caught my eye. The skillet is hash, black beans, salsa, avocado, sour cream, a quesadilla, and lime then topped with two sunny side-up eggs. Let me start by saying that this skillet is massive; I definitely did not finish it. But I really loved the quesadilla to dip in the runny egg yolk and the dish combined all of my favorite southwestern and Mexican flavors. I will be ordering this again. read more

Great idea, but... Maybe we hit them on a bad morning. Weak Coffee was served up while the one woman worked to prep hash browns for the day. Meanwhile some locals came in and started ordering up Bloody Marys while we had not been asked for our order yet ( we were originally the only ones waiting ). So their drinks were being made as we tried to drink our coffee. Fifteen minutes in it was clear this was not going to go well as the local guy was already yelling out what he wanted for food. We asked to pay for the coffee - which was not worth it - and left. Ran up the street to Golden West which attended to us right away with a strong cup of coffee. To be fair the menu and ambience looked great. The problem is you have to deliver on the actual food. I'll try again. Maybe. But really a shame, because this is how a business tanks. read more

Before you dive in, this review will be broken into two parts...the service and then the food. I'm a big expectations person and think if you know what you're getting into, it can have less of an impact on your experience. If you're going here for service: don't. If you're going to Chuck's for good food: eat your heart out. Sadly the service is what docks my rating as so many others leaving feedback. The service: I can't imagine how much business Chuck's would do if it had solid service...perhaps it's intentional that it's lacking, because it seems they have no problem filling the place. We walked in on a Sunday morning to a full house. The waitresses were noticeably in the weeds and confusion was in the air. We stood at the bar for a good ten minutes and weren't greeted, asked if we wanted a drink while we waited for a table to free up, nothing. Once a spot did finally open, it took another good 10 minutes for it to get bussed. Verging on hangry, I had to interrupt a server bussing to ask for a water. Tip: if you get the attention of a server here, order and order everything at once if you can help it. I feel somewhat badly for the staff as it seems they're split between needing to tend to guests while also expediting and helping with kitchen prep (running eggs, etc.) I want to feel this isn't intentional, but do think that anyone working front of the house needs to be able to communicate. Even when walking behind people with dirty dishes, some servers shot nervous looks rather than simply stating "right behind you." My take on it is that the service suffers from a lack of a sound system and quite frankly, lack of experience. The redeeming part I will give the servers here is getting our orders correct amidst what seemed like mass confusion at times. The food: our dishes were both very tasty and well executed. I opted for the ACCE powerhouse and my boyfriend went with a custom hash. My sandwich had the perfect crunch and flavor profile, which is much appreciated for a meat-free menu item. His hash was a generous size, but not monstrous. All in all, think the food here is a great value. Definitely down to try Chuck's again, but if you're impatient or expect outstanding service, go elsewhere. read more

Just found this gem a few weeks ago. I've only been there for breakfast the skillets are a great deal and high quality. (I like the one with pork belly and kimchi). Friendly and attentive staff good coffee and breakfast drinks. The only drawback is it can get a little crowded but that's only because it's such a great place. read more

Ok so I didn't think I would find a real homey brunch /breakfast lunch place like this on this east coast, but wow!!!!!!! I don't pull punches with food, ( like I will never eat at city cafe ever!!!) but this is truly the gem of Baltimore city!!!!! Everyone there is wonderful and the food was perfect!!! I mean every bite!!! From watching them cook my food and the wonderful smell to the the special cinnamon bun made right in front of me( ask for one for sure) it wasn't on the menu! And just a real comfortable home cooked but amazing meal!!! If you kiss the chance to eat here you 'll never forgive yourself!!
