I didn't plan on getting tacos, but when getting boba at OMOMO next door, I couldn't resist giving this place a try!! I ordered the two plate chicken taco. The flour tacos were doubled so I ended up making 2 tacos out of 1. The taco shell was literally OVERFLOWING with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and rice (I don't like beans so I didn't add them to the taco). I had to get a fork and eat out of the taco before I could pick it up to separate into 2. I ate less than half of the plate before I got full!! Despite not being hungry, the tacos were delicious. I love a good taco Tuesday! I wasn't craving tacos, but I was craving Mexican food. Chronic tacos is where it's at! I actually had an issue with my order. For some reason the app put down my neighbors address and not my address. Chronic taco was able to help me get my address changed so my food we get delivered to my door. I am a huge fan of tacos and I have tried so many many places last one year, including tacos places in Anaheim, Santa Ana, Fullerton, Placentia (like Hole Mole, Los Cholos, Ponchos, etc etc). I found myself in the Alton Center the other day for lunch, and while trying to dodge other cars and pedestrians I was trying to decide where I should eat. This center is insane. Always. Driving by I saw Chronic Tacos... and I almost never pass up a taco place. I had Chronic tacos at another location YEARS ago, and I did drive thru and I found it absolutely horrible. So I never went back. Until this week. I had no idea Chronic Tacos was a Chipotle style restaurant. The tortilla guy seemed extremely frustrated with me that I didnt know what I wanted right off the bat. I asked about the chicken, and he huffed, and pointed to the grilled chicken after I asked if they only had shredded. In all fairness I usually do my homework before eating somewhere so I know what I want, but this was a spur of the moment stop here so I was unprepared! So, I chose flour tortillas, the taco threesome, with grilled chicken. I asked for a little spanish rice in my tacos as well. Wouldnt went with a little refried beans but I thought that might send him over the edge, so I passed. My first time I did cilantro, onion, lettuce, and a side of hot sauce and jalapenos. My second time I did guacamole on one taco... and my side of jalapenos consisted of three tiny end slices. I had to wait a good 5 minutes at the counter for the side of salsa before getting an attitude about what exactly I was waiting for. The inside is really warm, feels like no AC, and quite loud. Ive sat outside both times, which was nice. There are a few tables in the area... most have 5-6 chairs at them, and there are a couple 2 seaters I believe. Both days, I was assaulted by a damn black beetle bee... and anyone who knows me knows two things... that ALWAYS happens, and I HATE going back places where they frequent. They have no fear and get right back up after being slammed to the ground. They LOVE me and always harass me. Makes me insane. The food here both times I went was REALLY good. There was a lot of flavor, my tacos were FULL to the point where if I had another tortilla down in my basket, I would have had a fourth taco from the droppings. :) The chicken was fresh, and not fatty, and the cilantro and onions had a lot of flavor which is sometimes hard to find. This review makes me sad. Chronic has been my go to casual Mexican food since it first opened 10-15 years ago. We used to go a couple times a week. The quality has dropped over the past two years and significantly over the past couple months. 3 out of the last 4 meals we had there were horrible. I'm not sure if they started buying lower quality meat or it is just prepared improperly. The carne asada is dried out and very chewy. Today at noon they had no guacamole - yet still charged me for guac on my California Burrito. The place is clean, staff is friendly and helpful. But if the food isn't right it doesn't matter. I'm hoping they will get back to where they were, but won't be going back until a friend tells me they have. read more

I've been to other Chipotle restaurants and it seemed like they were on the decline. BUT... I visited here with my coworkers and what a difference. The food was fresh, tasty, and made to order. I visited Chronic Tacos to get my Taco Tuesday fix. They offer $2 full size tacos (chicken, beef, and 2 types of pork) on Tuesdays. These aren't the small street tacos that are offered at other places. They are FULL size tacos served on a flour tortilla with all the fixings (i.e. lettuce, onions, cilantro, cheese, salsa) and the BEST part is that guacamole is included free of charge. I went ahead and ordered 2 chicken and 2 beef tacos. A YELP check-in scored me some chips and salsa. I made a huge mistake by ordering 4 tacos. That was way too much food. 3 tacos would have been plenty, especially since I had chips and salsa. Everything sounds pretty good so far, including the incredible pricing. Here's where Chronic Tacos misses the mark. - Chicken was a little over cooked and flavor less. - Asada beef was way over cooked, flavor less, and not juicy at all - The mild salsa was a disaster taste wise and the medium salsa (green) didn't taste much better. These were probably the worst tasting salsas that I have tried. This place has the potential to hit it out of the park if they improved on the flavor profile of the proteins and don't over cook them. They also need to redo all their salsas. I'm willing to give this place a 2nd chance if they can improve on these items. read more

This was my first visit to Chronic Tacos in Irvine and I plan to return in the future. I ordered two beef and cheese tacos in a flour shell. The counter staff quickly heated the flour shells in a hot grill and loaded both shells with plenty of marinated beef, topped by lots of cheese. The cheese was freshly grated and the marinated beef was grilled, juicy and delicious. The two tacos were bursting with flavor and remained hot in the aluminum wrappers used for preparing "to go" orders. The counter staff was friendly, efficient and courteous. If you have any questions, ask them. They will answer your questions. The only reason I deducted one star was due to the limited seating areas for eating your meal and the scarcity of available parking spaces in the strip mall. You will probably need to search for a parking space during busy times of the day (i.e., daily lunch hour) and you might need to request a "to go" order if you cannot find an empty seat outdoors. read more

I'm actually quite impressed with Chronic Tacos! They've been around forever but I haven't really explored it until this year while waiting in the excruciatingly long lines for OMOMO. The pastor tacos are bomb dot com. So juicy and slightly sweet, and it's great that there are so many toppings to choose from in a Chipotle kind of style. I also like the options between flour and corn tortilla. I much prefer the corn! Check-in for free chips and salsa, and don't sleep on the spicy red sauce! It has a really robust, smokey flavor with a lot of heat. The chips taste really fresh. A little pricey in my opinion (I believe it's like $3.something for one taco??) but if you get 3 tacos it's roughly $10, which isn't toooo bad. I'm definitely spoiled by those LA taco trucks where each taco is like $1.50. Another thing to note is that these tacos are FAT. I ordered 2 tacos thinking it would be a "light" dinner, and ended up eating just one and felt totally full! That could just be me, of course, but there's no doubt these things are straight-up mini burritos if you pile on all the toppings like I did. Definitely a decent place for tacos in Irvine! read more

Just did a pick up order from Chronic Tacos for the first time. Ordered several items for my family. The cashier went through my order, which came out to over $80. I should of checked the order, but was in a rush to get home. Upon arriving they forgot to include a bowl-rito that we ordered. I'll be sure to speak with the manager as the the person answering the phone speaks very very little english, which makes the experience all the worse. *REVIEW BASED ON COVID EXPERIENCE** I can't believe that I had never been to Chronic Tacos before - so good! Worth the hype! It was pretty easy to locate, Google Map took us right to the location. It has ample amount of private parking space options. Due to COVID - seating area is blocked. All the staff members were masked and everyone was following the 6 feet safe distancing. There are good enough vegetarian taco options however my husband mentioned that I HAVE to try their potato tacos from the side menus, he was not wrong - SO GOOOOD! It comes with two tacos and it is quite filling - also gotta love their sauce! It has the good crunchy outer layer of taco and then soft potatoes/salsa inner layer. Ever try Chronic Taco? If not, you need to find one and "build your own burrito". You may say, "Oh, it's like Chipotle?" ..... Well, they serve like them, but NOT REALLY. The menu is slightly different, but the food is MUCH better and fresher. The menu is mainly burritos: small and regular. Just like Chipotle, they build your meal according to your wishes, but they have a much more varied menu and a larger selection of meats. Found VERY SHARP GLASS PIECE from taco!!! I spit it out with food! All our family stopped eating and brought ​it back to store. We met the manager and showed him. He collected the glass piece and called his owner but the owner did not answer so we gave our contact info to the manager.
