Scheels is absolutely massive and somehow manages to have just about everything you could possibly want for sports, hunting, outdoor activities, and more. The selection is impressive, the store is consistently clean, and the staff is generally friendly and helpful. Beyond the sporting goods, they also have an enormous selection of clothing, footwear, accessories, and other gear. One of my favorite things about Scheels is that they carry a lot of unique brands and products that you simply don't see at most other retailers. That alone makes it worth the trip. There are really only two downsides: it's almost always busy, and it's not cheap. That said, the sheer size of the store usually keeps the crowds from feeling too overwhelming--unless you're at checkout. And while the prices can definitely be on the higher side, I somehow manage to walk out with something almost every time. I honestly wish there were several Scheels locations throughout the Metroplex instead of just one. This is the kind of store you can spend hours wandering around in and still find something new. Details: I walked in as a newbie to fly fishing, with borrowed equipment, for an upcoming San Juan river trip. Danny spent the time to listen to what I enjoyed and found I might enjoy fly streamer fishing more than watching an indicator. He helped teach me where my borrowed equipment would do well and where it would struggle. He helped coach me on the upgrades that would matter for a more enjoyable experience. He only carries a few brands, but they are brands he believes in. Danny then spent 1.5 hrs with me fishing a local pond in Plano. While we didn't catch anything (not the goal), he is a patient teacher, meeting me where I was currently at. His teaching was mix of mechanics and fish behaviors.
