A super cute, tiny chowder house with delicious and very affordable fare. The staff were amazing and our chowder came out hot and delish our! We decided to get the chowder bread bowl, and outside of feeling wasteful not eating the whole bowl, it was a great choice! I've had this dish before served in a bread bowl, but these guys serve it in a huge, fresh and delish bread bowl and butter and grill the "lid" to give it more "umph". Genius idea! The chowder itself had lots of flavor, wasn't overly salty and wasn't overly rich, which I love. My friend and I split the Marianberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream and it was the best cobbler I've ever had. Not too sweet and the topping was amazing! You have to try this place! read more

This is a charming little spot not far from the beach. Despite the restaurant being crowded, our appetizer, meals, and dessert got to us in a timely fashion. The servers were friendly and attentive. The deep fried green beans were great - definitely my favorite part of the meal. My Cannon Ball Chowder (chowder in a bread bowl) could have been more flavorful. A little too potato-heavy for me, but still good. The bread was covered in garlic powder, which gave the bread an "off" taste since it was dusted onto the bread without adding salt, oil, or anything else. Could've been done better. Dessert (bread pudding) was great! I'd come here again for the fried green beans, in particular! I focused a lot of this review on the chowder because the restaurant is called the "Chowder Bowl" after all, and I'd imagine many people are interested in trying it out. If I could give no stars I would. The food was terrible! We got clam chowder, fish n chip and clams. All these items had little to no seasoning, the fish and clams were soggy and flavorless. The clam chowder again, no seasoning and literally no clams in it. This food was subpar felt store bought and a careless, flavorless recipe. Stopped for lunch on Sunday January 12, 2025. It was busy, yet our server, Mckenzie seated us right away. We started with a fragrant organic locally roasted coffee. Mckenzie returned to take our order. Her attention to all foods and condiments was on point. Another staff person, Josie, refilled our bottomless organic coffees, as needed. The Clam Chowder was EXCELLENT with a little bit of butter on top that gave it an added little salt and creaminess. For appetizers we got the garlic bread and calamari. The bread was nice and soft and was very good, and the calamari was yummy with the tartar sauce. I had the Nye club sandwich, it is big with chips that were amazing. I love the cut of the chips. We had a party of 5 and no one needed a single thing and said their dishes were perfect. Everything was fresh and made to order. The serving size is such a good portion, that 3 of us had boxes to go. They were filled with shrimp and the mango salsa was unlike any I've had before. We have been here before where the food was great! However, this time was very mediocre. We got the fish and chips, it came out within minutes of ordering, super super hot. Because of how hot the food was, this makes me think that it was microwaved. No flavor and soggy. There was a woman, not our server, that brought us sweetener for our tea and slammed it down on the table, no eye contact or words. And when she brought us refills she also did this same thing. They could use more cabbage and the melted cheese on them is not my favorite. The mango salsa is fantastic! Good heat not too sweet... I'd take a gallon home if I could. I just wish that it came with a side, as it was just two tacos and a lemon wedge. The chowder was fine. The lack of heavy cream was different. Good flavor just not as crave worthy as I was hoping. We came in on a beautiful day at the beach so of course we had to sit outside :) Chowder Bowl is conveniently located inside a small shopping strip by the beach with parking in the back. The Staff was friendly and we waited about 10 minutes for outdoor seating. I got a smoked salmon wrap, which came with a cup of chowder. I really enjoy the chowder and will come back for it! The chowder wasn't fishy at all; it wasn't too watery or heavy and came with a good amount of clams and potatoes. I took off one star because of the smoked salmon wrap. Starting off with the positives, there was a generous amount of salmon and it tasted very fresh. However, I did think the salt and fishy taste from the salmon was a bit too overpowering and I wish there was more veggies/avocado, or sauce to balance it out. My partner got the sockeye salmon sandwich and it was really delicious. Overall I think Chowder Bowl is a solid choice for lunch. read more

We didn't have to wait to be seated but Every seat was full and turned over right after the next. Service was quick and staff were friendly and rather quick to bus our tables. We understand it was a busy lunch hour but took our time and enjoyed our meal. Chowder came out hot. The cup size is perfect and hit the spot. Try the bread bowl if you're really hungry. Shortly after our clams came out. It comes in 1.5 lbs. With buttery garlic bread. Drizzle the lemon and it's golden. This is a must try and good portion to share. My mom kept raving about it and wants to go back for more. Surprisingly meaty, tasty and not sandy! Outdoor seating available - great spot on a nice dry day and you can bring your dog. I arrived after the place being recommended to me. I was seated by staff, with a plush on their shoulder. I am young, the staff was young, I thought it was funny, non-professional, but funny. After being seated in a corner next to the small stairs in the middle of the restaurant. A server comes over after a few moments, and quickly comes back asking if I was ready to order. My guest had arrived and sat at my table. They knew what they wanted, I had to look at the menu over and over.. Once i decided i would get a kid's menu meal, I know the server had to take a moment, but I am glad she served me it anyways. The food: Our table ordered the fish & chips, coleslaw [yes, on the side since none came with], shrimp & chips [kid's menu serving]. Also an appetizer, "southwest potato poppers", this one was a big winner. It's like a tater tot and jalapeno poppers had become a deep fried nugget. It is lightly breaded, which I appreciated and wasn't overly spicy. They arrived hot and came in plenty. Definitely recommend and will get them again! Fish & chips, decently priced [3pc - $16], I like how the chips are cut and aren't too super crispy or thin. Fish was made well, not too overly dark, but they did get soggy quickly. I did really love the garlic texas toast that came with it! Not too overly garlicky, crust was crispy, but the inner was so soft and buttery! Shrimp & chips for kids, it was 3 small shrimp pieces, was hoping at least 4 given the size, most of the plate (85%) was chips. Coleslaw: I felt like it was missing something and was a bit too dry for my liking. For a place with chowder in its name, I expected some amazing chowder. The white thick-and-a-little-chunky chowder was ok, but seriously bland while the super soft bread bowl cradling the warm soup was lacking in fluffy texture or taste. To be honest, I don't think I'd get the chowder again if I go back to Chowder Bowl. On the positive side, the friendly service was downright charming while the safety protocols in place during the pandemic were rightfully respected. Found this place here on yelp and it was in walking distance from the hotel. We were greeted and sat down fast with it being a little busy. The food came out fast and was nice and hot, plus it was delicious. It was a little loud for me cause I'm hard of hearing but that was due to a large party that was there.
