I was starving after my flight landed and craving a hearty salad. I stopped by this Chopt location. It was around 10:30am so the lunch crowd hadn't quite hit yet. The facility was clean and bright, with kiosks on the right, pickup shelving station in the left. I appreciate the different ways you can place an order, on the app in advance, at the kiosk, or in person at the counter. I opted to submit my order at the kiosk, and I got a text message to track my order. They also have a large progress screen with the names of upcoming, in-progress, and ready orders. Orders are prepared and placed at a designated number on the pick up shelves - very efficient. For whatever reason, I was waiting quite some time for my order. I saw the staff handling a lot of pre-ordered salads and wraps, so I figured mine would be coming soon. Eventually, one of the staff - she appeared to be the manager - noticed I was waiting a while. She asked me my name and then promptly addressed her staff to find my order. Unfortunately...no one knew where my salad was! So she ensured that my order was made right there in the spot and offered me a free beverage. She then personally handed me my salad and apologized for the wait. I was pleasantly surprised and appreciative of this level of customer service and diligent feedback loop between the manager and her staff. I wish I could have gotten her name in hindsight, but it made for a positive experience overall and a true lead by example model. The salad itself was delicious (i got a build your own), well mixed, and fresh. I'm about equi-distant between this Chopt and the one on 52nd. While I typically prefer the 52nd location, all the good things I've written about the other Chopt location still stand here. To sum it up, the service is friendly and quick and the Mexican Caesar dressing is amazing. However, I've noticed that this location is a bit more crowded and the building itself is smaller. I felt a bit claustrophobic trying to get salad the other day where the line wrapped all the way to in front of the service stations. Maybe it would be better if the seating tables were pushed against the wall (like bar seating) to give people more space to stand. read more

This was my fave salad spot but lately, I've noticed in a matter of weeks getting less and less protein and dressing. I won't be returning.

I've never left a review on a restaurant before, but I felt like I had to for Chopt. My company has placed two group orders in the past month and both times my salad has been horrible. I ordered the Summer Seasonal Salad and it was terrible for many reasons. 1. Very little chicken 2. All of the blue cheese in the salad was in a big clump so there were a few bites that were almost entirely blue cheese, at one point I resorted to just pulling the whole clump out the salad and throwing it away. It made the salad inedible. 3. Absolutely drenched in dressing and salad was not fresh. This could have something to do with it being in a group order, but if that's the case I'm sure I'm not the only person this has happened to. What they should do is pack the dressing separately and let the customer put it on themselves. Imo Sweetgreen is 100x better. read more

I only like one salad from them: the palm beach with shrimp. I ordered same salad 3 times. First time I was overcharged I paid a whopping $16.31 total with tax, second time $15.23. Today they tried to overcharge me again. The cashier had the nerve to claim prices had gone up and was different from what was posted. When I refused to pay the supervisor came out to fix it and I was charged $15.78! This was the last time I'll dine here, plenty of other salad places that don't rip off their customers like Just Salad and Chop & Go which is similar to Chopt but with better prices. read more

While the bowl of food tasted good.. I got Mediterranean salad with cauliflower base. Spicy enough and you get a piece of bread on the side. Ok and the other major thing why they had lost a star is that there's no WiFi available for clients while they have 3 hot spots! like seriously.. Normally get JustSalad, but decided to try Chopt to change it up. I got one of their classic salad creations - the Santa Fe Salad. It has a lot of ingredients, but I also added chicken and black beans. I have never tasted a salad so flavorless - even with the dressing! To pay $16 and have 99.9% of the salad be just romaine lettuce (barely able to find a piece of chicken in the whole salad) is very disappointing. I'll be going back to JustSalad now. read more

Chop't vs. Sweetgreen, a perpetual New York argument. While I like Sweetgreen's variety of ingredients a little more (some veggies are grilled up), I far prefer Chopt's dressings, and thus salads. There's really not much not to like about Chop't. It's healthy, fast and delicious. The pre-made salads, bowls and wraps are all delicious. I've done the build your own salad option a few times in the past, but the pre-made combos mesh better than anything I can create. The build your own option isn't the most cost efficient either. If you go for lunch, make sure you pre-order on the app unless you want to wait in line for 20 minutes. I've never had an issue with picking up my order at the time I demarked. read more

Most days there is a line expediter that directs you to the fastest moving line and keeps things flowing. The salads are amazing, and completely customizable. You can even mix and match your base greens (e.g. Kale & Spinach), or substitute an ingredient (e.g. edamame instead of tomatoes) for no additional charge. I am a fan of Chopt. I like the convenience of ordering online and setting my pick-up time, of skipping the looooong line of people during the lunch rush to quickly grab my waiting salad off the shelf, and, of course, the yummy salad options! Their Classic Cobb is delicious and I'm especially a fan of their spicy dressings (and options to make just about any salad spicy!). The portions, in my opinion, are quite large (larger than sweetgreen) and I typically order the dressing on the side so that I can split the salad in half and have it for lunch over two days. Now, specifically in regards to the East 56th location, there is often a wait, even with the pre-scheduled online orders. I've waited as long as 15 minutes past my scheduled pick-up time a couple of times now (in their defense- this usually happens the day after a holiday or on Mondays). Normally if this happened, I would let it slide the first time and then be done with them if it happened a second time. However, the employees are SO NICE and concerned and sympathetic that I don't have the heart to stop coming back. So, my recommendation when ordering, is to set your pick-up time to half an hour prior to when you plan to eat. And, if ordering in-store, expect a long, but fairly fast moving, line when arriving mid-day. read more

This place has completely gone down the drain. They are not able to manage contaminants in their food. Without going into details, I found some nasty stuff in my food that should not have been in there. The staff preparing the food look like deer in the headlights. The food prep person was trying to prepare my salad in a dirty vessel before another horrified employee stopped him. They don't seem to have any experience or training. The ingredients certainly seem staler from what was available pre-pandemic. Customer service is poor / non-existent with a complete lack of sympathy or common sense. What else should I say? The salads are way over-priced, and I don't think any of the combinations they have are all that special. But even that would usually earn them three stars from me. My major problem with Chop't is that they don't adequately clean the mat, knives, and bowls after making each salad. I'm a vegetarian and I ended up with three gigantic chunks of bacon in my salad. Poo on you, Chop't. It was my third and last time in your establishment. Your process can't be sanitary, and I can't imagine the kind of lawsuit you'll face if someone with food or nut allergies eats at your establishment. I hate that somehow I always end up in the damn long line at Chop't during lunch rush (for a salad of all things?!). Evidence #1: they've got these little Frequent Chop'r cards (buy 9, get the 10th free) and I've gone through about 10 or so of these!! Evidence #2: I think the employees recognize me but I don't acknowledge their recognition so as to trick myself into thinking that I don't actually frequent Chop't so often (not sure why I kinda feel embarrassed for waiting 15 min for a salad...) I'm now at the stage in my life where my metabolism has slowed down substantially and so I can't eat pizzas, burgers, halal, etc. for lunch then sit on my ass all day at the office then go home and veg in front of the TV and expect to remain "trim" (read: slightly overweight). So these pretty tasty and fresh salads fill the gap between my tastebuds and my slowly-expanding gut. In order to fulfill some sort of review usefulness quota, here are a few pointers: 1. The line at your typical lunch hour time (12-1) is usually out the door and down the block. If the line reaches the Cosi door, you're likely in for a 20-30 min wait. To avoid the long lines, either go right before noon or after 1. Or just call in your order and head straight to the pick up station near the entrance. 2. Get the Frequent Chop'r card and use it! You're saving ~$1 per salad. And yes, these buckets of lettuce will set you back $8-10. That's Midtown for ya. 3. Check out the seasonal salad specials because they're usually pretty good. It's pretty good, long lines that move fast, and reasonable prices for the neighborhood. There's some sick vitriol for this place, so much that I feel ashamed carrying a bag from there. Great concept and people who work there are nice. Expensive, but feels like all food is expensive right now. My real issue is value for the money. The portion size of things like cheese and meat they add are tiny. So small that in your entire salad you may have at most half a dozen bites with those items. I hoped I'd bite into the holy salad of greatness due to the organic/natural ingredients, but my steak salad was drenched in waaaay too much dressing, was not any more flavorful than a mix your own salad in the deli up the block, and wasn't as good as I would have hoped for the price (I think I paid over $10 for a salad and a drink). Of course, I've been known to do that for the Cobb at Cosi, but this was just not worth the price AND the ridiculously long line that goes out the door (I was at the new one at 52nd b/t Lex and Third). To be honest, I don't believe in spending $10 on fiber and water when I can go to the grocery store and average out $3 per day for 7 days and make my own salad. The service here sucks but the salads are fresh (like one would hope) and very interesting dressings and salad combinations. Unless you plan on ordering a salad with little protein and no dressing, in no way is this healthy. I like their Steakhouse and Santa Fe salad with Russian Bacon dressing. The portions are a plenty (no additional sides needed), the options are very diverse and offer a wide range.
