BEWARE Ordering from here! I have ordered here many times before with no issues until today, 4/3/25. I ordered two salads, one of which was carefully wrapped in Saran wrap but noticed mine wasn't. In general, not the end of the world but that was a sloppy, careless presentation and handling of my food and given what happened I now see this as a red flag. Towards the end of my salad, I bit on something thin and hard. It hurt my tooth and when I took it out it was a STAPLE! I'm never risking my life ordering from here again. Passed by the other day to get a signature bowl, the Harvest Bowl to be exact. It's good to try it at least once in my opinion to say whether you like it or not. Well, I'd tried it once and I can say it's not my favorite thing to get for lunch or dinner. All the ingredients taste naturally fresh like sliced avocados, chicken, sweet potatoes, and goat cheese as examples. I paid mine with cash, but you can pay with credit/debit card as the other option. Since the order has been already placed and in the process of being made, there's nothing I can do but to accept it hungrily. Without reading all the ingredients carefully on the menu, I've chosen the only bowl that contains quinoa (something I normally dislike to eat). Of course, this is mainly on me for not paying attention and reading through everything of the bowl. However, they seem to have cooked it rather well in my opinion. It doesn't taste hard or difficult to swallow....texture wise is pretty soft. Only downside: I wish the type of grain that comes with the bowl isn't just one tiny scoop and the rest isn't mostly raw kale. Additionally, I wish that the ratio between leafy greens and grains is 50:50 instead. I feel like just by eating raw leafy greens alone doesn't make me feel full or satisfied enough. Thirdly, I wish there're more pieces of chicken in the bowl. The highlight is definitely the whole avocado though, since the freshness and tastiness bring me lots of joy while enjoying the creaminess of an avocado! As I've mentioned before, the velvety smoothness explodes in my mouth, releasing a burst of creamy richness that leaves a satisfying hint of subtle nutty sweetness. Ambiance wise is like your typical salad place with several seats for customers to sit down. Better be quick and ready to play musical chairs with everyone as space is limited and rather on the smaller side. No room for you to leisurely hang around for a long time. Wanted to get a salad after going on a bakery tour and feeling overwhelmed by sugar. There's no seating as it's a lunch counter, but there are other buildings nearby that have seating and a food court so you can probably sit there instead. We got the Greek Salata, which tasted really good. I enjoyed the variety of textures and flavors that the food provided and finally got the chance to try an olive by itself for the first time. I usually don't opt for salads for lunch, but I LOVE Avo! The portions are much larger and the vegetables taste fresher than at Sweetgreen. My boyfriend used to eat Sweetgreen everyday but now he's a big Avo fan as well. I like the Midtown West location more than the one in the Hugh (used to be Avocaderia) because the lines are a lot shorter so you feel less rushed to make your selection. The staff are super patient especially since I got a build-your-own salad and had to pick all my toppings. Avo recently opened a small fast-casual lunch counter on 56th St between 6th and 7th. They specialize in avocado centered salad bowls, warm bowls, breakfast sandwiches, and of course, avocado toast. Avo is a rebrand of Avocaderia, which also has locations in Chelsea, Midtown East, Nomad, and Industry City/Brooklyn. This location is small, with six window stools but no tables for groups. The windows are big and bright, so the place feels bigger than it is, and I would be excited if they invest in some outdoor tables when the weather is nice. When I arrived, there was no line, but that quickly changed in the five minutes I was in there. I ordered the spicy chicken bowl, which I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved. The bowl had brown rice, spinach, freebird chicken, avocado, purple cabbage, carrots, pico, habanero hot sauce, lime citronette, crushed tortilla chips. It was a medium spicy, offset by the fresh crunch of veggies and I would happily eat it again. I did appreciate the large avocado serving but the dressing on the salad was watery and the portion size was small compared to what you get at sweetgreen for $16 (crazy). I'm adding a star back on because yes, the issue was rectified (only after posting here, though, by the way.) However, to be very clear, the order was not simply "delayed by 15 minutes." The order was placed at 6:11. It is my understanding it was prepared shortly thereafter. The employee never updated the system to summon a delivery person until I called the store at 6:55. (I called because it was still showing "preparing order" at the time promised for delivery.) At that point, I asked that they cancel and not send the order since it was salmon that had been sitting on a shelf for 45 minutes. Because we were unable to communicate effectively, they sent this order anyways. It arrived around 7:15. I had already ordered something else and threw this order away. While you're close to accurate that a delivery was made, albeit 20 minutes late, it was inedible so your claim below is disingenuous. So, next time, please do not write a passive aggressive response trying to make me look both unreasonable and racist. I was extremely patient with the workers on the phone, but it is not great when they cannot understand well enough to execute a customer request. I am also very positive no action would have been taken at all had it not been for my original complaint here. Be honest about what happened. read more
