My cousin recommended this spot, saying it was a great choice if I was looking for something healthy, and it definitely delivered. The concept is similar to Chipotle, where you build your own meal by choosing a protein, grain, sauce, and toppings. I created a bowl with white rice, caramelized steak, broccoli, and pesto, and paired it with a strawberry mint lemonade. The portion size was enormous--I easily could have stretched it into three meals. Even better, the food tasted just as good as it looked. The pesto added a ton of flavor, and while I usually pair pesto with chicken, it worked surprisingly well with the caramelized steak. The strawberry mint lemonade was also refreshing and complemented the meal perfectly. My only criticism is the lack of seating. There are only a handful of stools and one small table, and every seat was occupied when we visited, so we had to take our food elsewhere to eat. If they had a bit more seating, the experience would have been even better. The new location, while smaller than the last, is closer to the Union Square-14th St. subway station. And it doesn't have that dead space on the 2nd floor where though there may have been a place for you to sit, didn't mean that you'd necessarily enjoyed yourself there: Chances were that'd you'd have to hear someone's conversation in person or on the phone, as if you were on the subway. None of that here now with 4, albeit generous, seats facing the window: The expectation now is that during the lunch rush, you're going straight back to your desk or, if it's nice outside, sit outside (so a great use of the car-free section of Broadway). I had the Hot Chicken Plate: It was the special for folks with the SG app so I thought, why not. I picked double quinoa, blackened chicken, sweet potato and everything else you can see in my photo. The warm quinoa and the chicken were fantastic: You know SG is making a play for Chipotle's customers by offering what's basically a rice base with a chicken and salad topping. I was not a fan of the spicy broccoli which I found too salty. I'd been to sweetgreen once before years ago, but never this location. Upon walking in I realized that ordering is now done through the kiosk, so that took a minute to get used to. This is a busy location, and all kiosks were being used, so there was a bit of a wait. I placed my order and went to find a seat - unfortunately all the tables in here had some kind of dressing or trash on them, so I had to make due and clean up after the last person who left. My bowl was ready in about 5 minutes or so, was made correctly and had generous amounts of all the toppings I had picked - though the piece of salmon I got was really small and dry. Overall, not a bad place to eat lunch if you're looking for something healthy and don't mind dropping $20 on lunch. I'm pissed. I open my salad, starving and begin to eat. I notice there's this thready feeling when I swallow, but I'm thinking it's like vegetable strings from the kale or other veggies. If you're looking for a good but overpriced salad, Sweetgreen is your place! I usually choose one of the salad options from their menu, since it is always more expensive to make your own, and then I make a few modifications. I like the green goddess salad without raw beets (their raw beets are just too "raw"/crunchy) and substitute the dressing for the spicy cashew dressing. Pictured here is a make-your-own salad that I based off of the shroomami salad. It has kale, quinoa, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, tofu, raw beets (would do raw almonds next time), mint, and spicy cashew dressing. It was really good! When getting salads delivered, I typically ask for two dressings on the side since one is never enough. I don't go during prime lunch hours, so am able to avoid the crazy lunch crowds. I tend to order in-person during off-hours, and see the bowls being assembled, which is the best way at avoiding mistakes. Ingredients are fresh, taste great, plenty of toppings so you can get something different every time. I'm a DIY fan, and usually opt for the blackened chicken, sweet potatoes, beets, avocado and their green goddess ranch or miso sesame ginger dressing. Typically feel great after eating a bowl, too! SG is pretty innovative and always comes out with new seasonal flavor combinations. Overall, an excellent salad or bowl option, that's still one of my go-tos in this great cityscape. read more
