Each bowl was reasonably priced and super filling. My first bowl was the honey harissa chicken which I paid an extra 1.75 for the shredded lamb. Lamb was a little bit flavorless and was dry. I liked the chipotle sauce, which adds flavor to the bowl. The service could use some work. 2 stars only for the food, which was actually quite good. I like that they have an option for a build your own junior bowl at an affordable $7.95. The management and service was terrible however. I waited over 10 minutes just to place my order with 3 people ahead of me. The order style is similar to a Chipotle, where you go down the line and tell them what you want. I felt bad for the *only* front of house employee, who had to make the food, check people out AND clean up the dirty tables. There were at least two workers in the back of house, chopping vegetables instead of helping customers or helping their coworker who was clearly struggling to keep up. Management is clearly an issue because no one should be slicing vegetables when you have 5 people in line waiting to order and only one person taking orders and ringing them up. Chopping vegetables was not a priority as there was plenty of vegetables for customers in the front. After the front of house employee was able to get through the 5 of us in line (over 25 minutes to do this), she then went to clean up the dirty tables before the next customer arrived. Because the other employees were hiding in the back pretending to be busy, multiple tables sat dirty for an extended period of time. I just can't imagine being a coworker and not offering to help ring people up or even take some orders, and leaving your coworker to just rot up there by themselves!!! I cannot blame the person who made my food and rang me up. They were clearly doing their best and doing it alone. I was just appalled that the other employees (who were in customers line of vision) were either chopping vegetables and ignoring the line building up or sitting in the back doing who knows what. I can't even say they were short staffed. It seemed like they had enough staff, but they weren't prioritizing the right tasks. I love Mezeh. It's a similar concept to Cava, but superior in my opinion as they have so many more options for toppings. The interior is huge with lots of seating, good spot for a quick casual lunch in Flatiron/Union Square area. When you look down the line where food is, there are so many colors and textures which just speaks to the variety and freshness you get here. I really do get a day's worth of vegetables with each bowl. For vegetarians, there's falafel and veggie kefta which are both fresh and flavorful. My bowl is always packed as it's hard not to get nearly every topping. Some of my favorites are the baba ghanoush, grilled eggplant, and beet dip. I always get a pita on the side, and the bread always tastes like it was baked that day. We asked to do a make your own bowl and the toppings weren't additional. That is such a nice change. We got half grilled chicken and half shawarma chicken and some mixed greens followed by rice and toppings and sauce. They even included a pita. The amount was very filling and could probably fill two if you aren't starving. I really like the interior and was glad there was ample seating. I can totally see this as a great place to meet with friends to get work done. There doesn't seem to be a rewards program yet but would definitely join if there was one. This is a great (new?) Mediterranean spot for a quick casual shawarma bowl. It is conveniently located next to the AMC 19th Street movie theater where I frequently go for the movies so now I can say I have a new quick go-to place for food before or after the movies. Ordering was not too complicated and I was able to easily customize the chicken shawarma bowl to my liking with various different toppings, ingredient and sauces. I loved everything and there was a slight kick of spice in the chicken shawarma but was cooled down by the yogurt sauce. Some of the best toppings include the aforementioned beet dip, lebanese tabbouleh, sundried tomato salad, cilantro hummus, and crunchy chickpeas. Everything tastes really fresh and complements the other ingredients nicely. The food has always been served to me quickly and there's plenty of seating and I've always been able to have a quick, healthy, and peaceful meal here. However, the following are the reasons for the 3 star treatment: 1) Sometimes it smells a little funky. My co-worker said like fish, but I actually think it's more a dirty mop kind of funk. Fix that please (a diffuser with some other fragrance by the door could help). 2) Sometimes the protein options are cold. Another excellent addition to halal restaurant scene in NY. I've been going here for about a year and the food is always fresh and consistent and it's my go to place for a quick lunch. A word of warning, the place gets very busy around lunch time. So if you can go a bit earlier or later, you'll wait much less. In addition, I usually prefer to get takeout but if you prefer to eat over there, they have enough space and the interior is pretty clean. I also recently discovered they participate in MealPal. Beyond that it was quite slow so I'd have to imagine it can be improved somehow. I enjoyed the layout of the restaurant and aesthetic. I liked my bowl and the combination of flavors.
