    Jambalaya

Visiting from California and stopped in here for lunch. We had the jambalaya, garden salad with a side of lemon chicken. Everything was delicious. The waitstaff Sammy was attentive, and polite; made it a great experience! The ambiance nice and warm for what you expect a chophouse to be very cutely decorated. The menu has a wide variety of things and they have daily specials. If you're in the neighborhood you should try.

crab rangoons, beef and broccoli, fried rice, egg roll

The food was hot, fresh, and tasted great! The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is clean and has nice calm music. It was not busy on a sunday afternoon. It was also affordable. It was $32 for two meals, an appetizer, and two drinks.

Small cozy interior. Need to get lights fixed on menu board.

Was trying to come up with something catchy for this review, but like the food we ordered....have come up short. Best part of dinner here was the polite young woman who took our order. Polite...but not well-versed in explaining dishes. Yes, I suppose I could be better prepared when dining at an ethnic restaurant, but I also think the staff should be able to explain differences in seasoning between Hunan and Sczechuan. Both chicken dishes I asked about on their menu had a hot pepper symbol beside them. (I love spicy dishes.). Yet when I asked about any difference she simply said, one had brown sauce the other doesn't. Uh....probably have some other spices too? Regardless, the dish that was served was not hot (spicy) at all. Big disappointment....and seasonings? They seemed sadly lacking as well. Hot and sour soup was ok but nothing to get excited about. Egg roll - fair, but again, run-of-the-mill. Rice....ok, that was pretty good...but it was just rice....not gonna drool over plain white rice, no matter how well it's made. Bottom line...dim interior, menu lights burned out so dishes could not be seen (likely stock photos anyhow). All in all a big disappointment.

I'm from out of state and was not satisfied. My brother in law bought us dinner and let's just say 'No'. Spring rolls were bland and undercooked and were very hard to chew on as were the meat Ragoons as well. The dumplings tasted of burger beef and depended on onions, the sauce was plain old soy sauce. The orange chicken, sezechuan chicken and honey chicken ALL TASTED THE SAME and LOOKED the same. The pork fried rice was bland, the chow mein was bland as well and shrimp smelled old. The beef and broccoli...beef was gamey and was grossly fatty, and broccoli was the only decent thing. The sweat and sour sauce was old and watered down I never rejected food so fast and wasted so much food with my family before. Sad to say never again..

    A ten table restaurant in a strip-mall.

After visiting Chopstix several times with relatives (my last visit: Sept 2018), I've concluded that there are two factors that will determine if you enjoy (as I do) this modest eatery with only ten tables in a strip-mall: First, your tolerance for Americanized, "Fill 'er up" Chinese comfort food, and second, which dish you order--as described below, we've enjoyed some dishes while finding others plagued with stringy meat. Some folks, such as my Taiwanese cousin in-law, don't find sufficiently authentic this economy Chinese food, similar to the "Chinamerican" cuisine offered in strip-malls around the U.S. If you prefer upscale establishments or Chinese restaurants where the menu is actually in Mandarin, you'll likely share his opinion; I'm not trying to dissuade you from such tastes. But I, on the other hand, who unapologetically prefers quantity over authenticity, enjoy the generous, hot and tasty (if salty) portions. While Chopstix is not a buffet (unlike my beloved Ding How in Prattville, Alabama), I probably get no less to eat here than at a buffet, and my relatives end up having to put their leftovers in to-go boxes. But getting not just a lot of food, but a lot of *good* food at Chopstix depends on ordering the right dish. I've ordered their chicken, beef, and roast pork Lo mein, and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. However, my relatives said that the General Tso's chicken, though they enjoyed the flavor, was stringy, and that the beef and broccoli dish contained so much gristle as to be unpalatable. On the other hand, both of my relatives commended the Hunan chicken, adding that it avoided the stringiness of the other dishes, had good flavor, and the right balance of spice. Due to the quality of Chopstix's dishes being hit-or-miss, I considered only giving it a three-star rating. But, I've genuinely enjoyed my visits there, and I look forward to visiting again, so I've awarded it four stars, while at the same time conceding that not all dishes there deserve that many. Some closing random trivia: In June of 2015, a fire broke out in Chopstix. Employees attempted to subdue it with an extinguisher, but it continued to grow until the automatic sprinklers kicked in. The store was saved, but not before it sustained an estimated $50,000 of damage. But, Chopstix appears to have recovered well--if I hadn't read about it, I wouldn't have known it.

I am always on the hunt for a solid pick-up Chinese spot and usually wait until I am closer to home to scoop up the food, but decided to give Asian Taste a try recently and get it right after work. Online ordering process was simple, not a huge fan of the 7% processing fee, but the prices were fair so I pushed through. Quoted time of 25 minutes was spot on. When I walked in the door, they were walking from behind the curtain with my order. As noted in previous reviews, I always judge a Chinese spot by their wonton soup...and Asian Taste came through with some of the best wonton soup I have had in the area! In addition to the tasty soup, we got sesame chicken with fried rice and an egg roll, and house lo mein. The egg roll was more of a spring roll, but it was fried to perfection and packed with the goods, so again, I let it slide. All the food was hot and delicious, and plentiful. Pricing was not bad, including the fees, tax and a tip, we spent around $32, which is not bad at all! If you are interested in dining in, there are several booths and tables. The dining room was well kept and clean. Overall, really enjoyed Asian Taste. Definitely will be added to the rotation for those weeknight Chinese dinners!

I did a pick-up order, so I'll have to come back and try the hotpot, but our experience with the two dishes we ordered was good. Ordered: 1. Snow pea tips ($21.99) - a classic chinese restaurant dish that they did well; would order again. 2. Sour cabbage fish ($28.99) - the portion is huge (you get what you pay for ~$30), but satisfying. The fish fillets are incredibly tender. The pickled cabbage gives it a nice sour flavor to round everything out, and the soup comes with noodles which was a nice surprise. Food was ready in 40 minutes on a Friday evening, so it's a good idea to plan your order ahead of time.

This fit our time budget just fine as we had about 3.5 hours before our flight departs. This location is what you would expect from an ordinary hot pot restaurant with simple seating, a custom bar to choose the items you want, and a small sauce station. My lovely lady and I decided to go with the custom hot pot option where you grab a large bowl, go to the custom bar and choose the items that you want them to cook in your hot pot. They weigh all the stuff together and charge $14.99 per pound. We originally choose the House Spicy broth, but my beautiful partner asked the lady how spicy was the broth, and she did say it was actually spicy; so she asked them to downgrade my broth to the Sour and Spicy broth, as it was more mild. I'm so glad she did, as my broth still seemed quite spicy, especially the red chili oil floating at the top. I'm not sure how she was able to deal with the House Spicy level, but she was able to power through it. The sauce station was quite limited, without any sweet options to mix with the spicy oil and scallions. Overall, this place is ok for Tennessee. I feel like we are spoiled coming from the Los Angeles area where we have access to so many options with super fresh ingredients.

Yes, many of us find ourselves buzzing around (especially this time of year -…read moreright before Thanksgiving) like bees and other creatures hustling to prepare for the cold months ahead. And, somewhat surprisingly...the same was true for Great Wall of China early afternoon on a weekday. There was a virtual constant flow of patrons coming and going, picking up call-in orders, and stopping for a mid-afternoon lunch. (1:30 - 2:30pm) Regardless of the "buzz," we were politely greeted by Lynn (Lin ?) and seated immediately. Drink orders were taken (fountain drinks or bottled available), menus presented. Drinks delivered and orders taken within 5 - 10 minutes....and a small dish of complementary candied peanuts placed on table. They were delightful. Our orders came out within another 10 minutes or so....even while customers continued to come and go. And 3 different people came out to check if everything was in order..."all good?" - "yes." First for me was a hot, super crispy, veggie egg roll. Multi layers of rice paper wrappers contained a rather bland stuffing. A dollop of "Momofuku-style/Lao Gan Ma" chili crunch with its savory, salty, spicy, umami nature helped. (Of course the traditional hot mustard or duck sauce could have been chosen instead...but none was offered.) Second - my go-to lunch dish, Hunan Chicken. Uber-tender small bites of white breast chicken sauted and bathed in an earthy sauce, along with carrots, mushrooms, onions, and zucchini. Good - yes. Great....not quite. The depth of flavor wasn't here. But the subtle and persistent heat was spot on. Chicken and broccoli for my luncheon guest...was also shy of our top marks. And this dish (attested by both of us) was way over-salty. Too much soy or...? We'll ask next time. Regardless, we will be back because the selection and affordability of pretty darn good Chinese food is what we continue to seek on our Yelping quest across all cuisines of the world....especially close to home.

I love all styles of Chinese food--from Americanized classics to more traditional dishes--so I was excited to try a range of items. I ordered several dishes to get a good feel for the menu, including sautéed mixed vegetables, egg rolls, steamed dumplings, wonton soup, and sesame chicken. The sautéed mixed vegetables unfortunately missed the mark for me. The sauce was extremely strong and completely overpowered the dish, making it difficult to enjoy. My roommate ended up finishing it and agreed--the sauce was just too intense. The egg rolls were also a bit underwhelming. The wrapper wasn't as crispy as I would've liked, and the filling leaned heavily toward meat without much vegetable balance, which made the flavor feel a bit one-dimensional. The steamed dumplings were better and one of the stronger items we tried, though I think a more flavorful or complementary dipping sauce--and a bit more variety in the filling--would take them to the next level. The wonton soup had a really nice, well-balanced broth, and the wontons themselves were cooked perfectly. That said, the soup felt a little lacking in substance. Adding vegetables like cabbage, carrots, or peas could really round it out and make it more satisfying. The standout of the meal was the sesame chicken. It was well-prepared, flavorful, and came with a good portion of broccoli--though I wouldn't have minded even more. Overall, No.1 Chinese falls somewhere in the middle. It's a decent option if you're looking for quick takeout, but if you're searching for something more memorable or elevated, you may want to keep exploring.
