On this culinary adventure we were looking for some New York style Chinese food. I actually found it in a little strip mall off of Murfreesboro Road in Franklin. As we pulled up we only see one table with customers so we are slightly concerned. I step in to here and it looks like every other Chinese place. They all look the same with basically the same choices on the menu. However, we should not have worried because this place is absolutely amazing. It is just a little family place where the food is all made to order. We decided to order a sampling of several things off the menu. What we don't eat we can take home. We ordered crab rangoons, pan fried dumplings, Generals Tao's chicken, egg drop soup, egg rolls, fried rice, and Szechuan chicken (extra hot please). We go have a seat and shortly the food starts to come out. It was definitely not what I expected. It was much better. I was impressed by the plate presentation and the smells coming from the plates. You can tell everything was handmade. Even the egg rolls and dumplings are handmade. The egg rolls are stuffed with chicken and vegetables and you can tell they are handmade because the rolls are not rolled exactly the same. The pan fried dumplings are filled with Asian porky goodness. The crab rangoons are also definitely handmade because they are all shaped a little differently as well. They are out of this world. And that is just the appetizers. Now to start on the main dishes. I have had a lot of General Tao's chicken in my time but this place hits it out of the ballpark. The flavor was incredible and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The Szechuan chicken was full of flavor and spice (could have been a little hotter but that is just me). Everything was made with love and care. This place is a hidden gem and a true New York style Chinese food restaurant. It has been a long time since I had food like this. I read the reviews and was really looking forward to ordering from here. Ordered delivery and honestly the food was Meh! Given they promote themselves as NY Chinese I was excited about it, but it wasn't the NY I remember. I don't understand how people gave this place 4 Stars??! We ordered General Tso's dinner. It really tasted and looked like Sweet & Sour Chicken. The fried rice looked like Mexican or Spanish rice?! The egg roll filing was good, but the egg roll itself wasn't crispy. The only highlight of this meal was the Hot & Sour soup. Also, we ordered the Pork Chow Mein which was meh. Not that much pork and it was just big noodles with not much flavor. Beef & Broccoli was okay, but mainly broccoli and hardly any meat. Also, I love ordering crispy wonton (fried noodle here) from restaurants, even ordered extra and they were oily and soggy! I did get a lot of side sauces, which is cool. But for Chinese Food Delivery that was Meh for close to $50...I could have gone to Panda Express and paid $30 less. read more

We decided to order from China Gourmet for the first time ever as we were next door at the UPS Store. I said that I wanted to order egg foo young. The guy behind the counter screams, "No egg foo young, chicken wings or moo shu!!!" The attitude was totally uncalled for as I surely did not bring any attitude to the table. I think this restaurant has some of the best Chinese food in the area. They advertise New York style, and I'm from New York and can state that this is exactly that style You can eat in as they have 8 tables, or do take out. It's a clean restaurant with friendly staff. read more

Blown away by Customer Service at this restaurant. We are new to the Franklin, TN area and were craving Chinese Delivery. We placed our order online (my boyfriend has a Gluten Intolerance) so we order some items slightly different. (no soy sauce, no breading, etc.) A gentlemen from the restaurant actually called me once they received the order and told me the exact item I ordered wasn't GF compatible. After not finding this place on Yelp, I drove to see if they were out of business... Happily, they are IN business!! I don't suggest eating in. Decor is slightly better than a stereotypical Chinese To Go restaurant. It's clean and chairs are decent (see pics i uploaded) but not much more. They DO deliver to the area though! My experience here is they provide fresh food in generous quantities. Their is a sign on the window that says "New York style Chinese restaurant " this is not Wild Ginger or even Koi for that matter. But for the market they serve- they are the best in the area! Fresh food, generous portions, friendly service and reasonable prices! They are located in the strip mall behind Franklin Chop House down from the newer Tae Bow Studio on Hwy 96. Had take out from here several times and its always been great. Checking prices with competitors and they are lower. Its always the same young couple working there so I think its a family owned and run business. I noticed they are very generous with the meat in the pepper steak compared to another place I go. I used the yelp app and they have always had my order ready except for once but they were obviously busy at the time. Also get cash back if ordering through the yelp app. If your looking for great fresh tasty chinese food you have to give this place a try. read more

On lazy Sunday nights we frequently order from China Gourmet and we are never disappointed. It's quick, hot, and exactly what we're expecting. We've never had any issues or discrepancies. We always seem to order veggie Lo mein for our daughters, sweet and sour chicken and or beef and broccoli for my husband, and the lite choice of sliced chicken with steamed veggies with brown sauce for myself. Having had the opportunity to eat Chinese food in other large cities, it has always been a disappointment to eat it here in Nashville. It always tastes the same, and I think it speaks volumes that PF Chang's always jumps up to the top of the list when searching for Chinese food. China Gourmet was actually discovered by my wife on a whim, and it has become my favorite Chinese in Nashville. So far all of the food from there has been of great quality. The crab rangoon are actually light and crispy and the traditional chicken dishes use all-white meat. Food is better than the usual corner Asian take out. What was amazing was the portion size, they pack the containers full. You definitely get your money's worth. Being Chinese, I'm more critical. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but I had lunch there today and it was really not good. The restaurant doesn't appear to have air conditioning and the tables were sticky. I ordered the cashew chicken lunch special and crab rangoon. The crab rangoon were greasy and not very crispy. The "fried" rice was yellow, the veggies in it were uncooked, and it was stale and flavorless. The cashew chicken was battered and fried and had no real flavor to speak of other than a bland saltiness. The egg roll was flavorless and mushy. Not sure I'll go back... probably not. read more

Excellent......We were passing through the area on our way from Northern Virginia to Arkansas to visit family for Spring Break. We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Franklin, and after a long day of traveling with two young children, we decided that delivery would be our best option for dinner. I found this place through Yelp's delivery service and proceeded to place an order. We had the Hunan Chicken, Lo Mein, House Lo Mein, Curry Chicken and Chicken with Broccoli along with a Hot and Sour Soup and 2 vegetable Spring Rolls. With exception of the Hot and Sour Soup ( which was "ok", but nothing special), this was probably the best Chinese take-out that I have ever had. With tax, tip and delivery, everything came in just under $40. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for quality, inexpensive take out. read more

This is by far the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been too. I ordered dumplings and vegetable fried rice and it was just disgusting. The dumplings were BLUE and they tasted like soft cardboard. I ordered the Szechuan Shrimp for lunch. Unfortunately, it came with a lb and half of onions, and barely any other veggies. Possibly 4 sliver of carrots, one water chestnut, 4 snow peas, and 4 sliver of bamboo shoots with (2) 1/4 pieces of baby corn. There were actually more onions than rice. If they are trying to cut corners, I should say to just leave out a pound of the onions. The driver was very sweet and kind. First time trying China Gourmet: I ordered the sweet & sour chicken along with the crab ragoons. They both come with the same sauce, which was quite thin. Most *usual sweet & sour sauces are thicker, so it can stay on the chicken (or whatever food) easier instead of falling off while trying to put it in your mouth like their sauce. It also had a very heavy cranberry? smell to it, which was odd to me. The rice was disproportionate to the amount of chicken they gave me, as well as it had a smoky after taste almost as if it was over cooked or burned. The crab ragoons were not horrifying, but it did not have the right crab to cream cheese ratio. Cream cheese can be very over powering, and in this situation, it was still questionable. Cashew Chicken was ok, fried rice was a little dry but flavorful, egg roll was ok - very thick and heavy, fortune cookies are gross, skip them. The place is mostly clean but, water from the water tower looks terrible in the jug (it's just fine, just the color of the wall combining with the jug color makes it look like dirty dish water), the dish bin they had out was too small for all the dishes from our group and the garbage can flap was gross to touch, so everyone used their dirty napkins which made it more gross, they need a better solution for food disposal. The lunch price was great and quantity was great too, but at least my dish wasn't anything special, better than a typical mall chain place, but nothing I'd go out of my way to get again. read more

There is Chinese delivery and then there is good Chinese delivery. Our food was very good (spring rolls, hot & sour soup and Mongolian beef). All were very good. The delivery time was good and the food was hot & delicious. I highly recommend for delivery or carry out. read more

China Gourmet used to be my favorite Chinese takeout place in Franklin and I used to go there at least once a week. However, a year or so ago it seems that they changed owners and the quality and portions of the food has gone down. This is a good 'fast food' Chinese place. Have had 4 different times with a variety and it's always fresh and hot. Seems this place doesn't 'cut corners' like some other 'fast food' Chinese places.
