Arrived in the food lion parking lot, the neon sign was out, and as a result it was unclear if they were open. But they were open. The restaurant is small and humble and as we walked through the door we were welcomed with a warm greeting. As we looked at the menu, I decided to go with the orange chicken with a side of fried rice and egg drop soup. My wife ordered curry chicken with lo mein and hot an sour soup. We also chose to throw in a helping of crab rangoons to share, why not? We were told it would be about 15 minutes until our food was prepared. While we were waiting the sound of the grill and knives chopping was clear as day! The lady at the counter quickly and efficiently taking orders of soon to be customers over the phone. Our food was ready well within the time quoted! As we drove home the car was filled with the bellowing aroma of what we would soon get to enjoy. After inspecting our food we observed that there was no cutlery included in the packaging. Soon after, my wife notified me that her curry chicken was exceedingly pale, with little to no curry detected. As she dived into her first bites of food, my wife was just as unimpressed with the flavor as she was the appearance of the chicken. There was more vegetables than chicken, probably only about 8 bites of chicken here. The lo mein was the only saving grace for this dish. She gave it a chance, but wouldn't order the curry chicken again, and wound up eating my orange chicken instead. Although it was served hot, the flavor just simply wasn't there - 4/10. My first bites of the orange chicken had decent flavor, although I would have preferred more of an orange flavor to pop out. Good crunchy consistency though. The fried rice was your average fried rice, however lacking in seasoning, it holds it own. Would order the orange chicken again, but not the fried rice - 6.5/10. As my wife and I moved onto the crab rangoons, they were passable Chinese take out rangoons. The cream cheese flavor was there. However, the crab must've not got the memo, it was undetectable. -6/10 Onto the egg drop soup. Yep, I'm going to give it to them on this one, it's satisfying. A good yolky consistency that dissolves in the mouth. Nice and warm and worth the price. A perfect example of egg drop soup. Would definitely order again. A fair 8/10. My wife needs something to wash out the flavor of the nonexistent curry dish, so in comes the hot and sour soup. It's hot, it's sour, it's... DELICIOUS. Thankfully she enjoyed something from this dinner otherwise I'd be hearing about it all night. She will order again and gives an approving 8/10. Overall, Song Da works in a pinch. They have vegetarian egg rolls! I feel like I can only find veggie spring rolls, and they just don't do the job when you want an egg roll. High side of average takeout Chinese food, often below average service which is the only reason I'm going 3 stars. Not once, but twice I've had the owner tell me what I'm ordering is not on the lunch menu. Both times I've let it go and just gotten something else, but the last time the employee made a weird (and honestly, sort of a rude tone) comment about how I was wrong about it being in their lunch menu when I was picking up (even if I was, why awkwardly point it out if I just got something and moved on?) my food, only for me to have to grab a menu and point at where I originally wanted was indeed right there on the menu a few inches in front of her. She didn't even end up saying sorry, it was sort of awkward for both of us, I just quietly left and took my second choice order home with me lol. Service was great, food was good. We have a favorite, but wanted to branch out and try a new takeout. The menu is extensive and prices are fair. We ordered the House Lo Mein, Dragon Meets Phoenix, and Bourbon Chicken. The portions were huge! The noodles were overflowing - flavorful, with plenty of meat and seafood, and not too salty. The Bourbon chicken was ok, a tad bit too sweet. Both dishes from the Dragon meets Phoenix was good, the shrimps were huge - and you get plenty. Vegetables were tender. Had the restaurant served my dine-in food in something other than take-out containers and if they had done one thing I will mark later, I would have given them 4*'s. I probably will not go back because of two reasons. One, I like trying different restaurants to yelp about and if you don't knock my socks off, I will try something else for the new experience. The second reason is that they are not in my neighborhood, so I won't go out of my way. The food is good and you should go there despite my rating. While I ate, the door chimes kept ringing as people came in and out. I will admit I hesitated eating here. From the parking lot, it looked like many shopping strip mall restaurant that serves sub-par food. I was wrong because it was very good food at a great value. Of note is they have a white board with "Fast Order" food. My order was not on that menu, but still came out in a quick manner. On to the review of the food...Hot and Spicy Shrimp. A small mountain of perfectly crunchy stir-fried veggies sat under a layer of shrimp. While the shrimp was not the highest quality it was quite good. There were a lot of shrimp, and they were of a larger size. I detected fresh ginger as well in the sauce. Use of thickening agents was quite obvious, and my only complaint. The sauce had that jellied look that says it was thickened with arrowroot or corn starch. As much as I did not totally enjoy that, it did make it thick enough to ride up with the shrimp and bind the veggies that were finely chopped. read more

Must have gone on an off day... OK, here is the deal. I recently rediscovered a Chinese take in Smyrna close to Walmart. Always willing to try new places, Song Da seemed to be the next best thing. I had planned on the other place, but the wife said "let's give Song Da a try". And try we did! I ordered the Jumbo Garlic Shrimp. She tried the General Tso Chicken. As stated the lunch portions are far and away better than most. My garlic shrimp was good with a FAIRLY generous portion of shrimp. That was good because if the shrimp were not present, I would not have liked the dish. On it's own the veggies, sauce and rice would not have carried this dish. To me, the shrimp should have complimented this dish, but it carried it. Shrimp was cooked just right, the veggies were a pretty close second, but the cohesiveness was not there. Did I eat it all? Yes, yes I did. I don't waste money. Now to the General Tso chicken my wife ordered. She almost always gets this to honor the memory and courage of the great General Tso. Heavy on the breading, light on the chicken. If it had been tasty there would be no complaint here, but it wasn't. It was good, but not great. To top it off, she got sick that night. nuff said. Song Da is THE lifesaver when it comes to emergency soup hook ups. I have been suffering from a lot of illness for the last 2 years and routinely pick up wonton soup from Song Da to soothe my throat and calm my body. I am sure it isn't healthy but it feels good when all you want is salt and electrolytes and something warm and comforting, and it equals out to be less expensive than canned soup from the store by volume when buying by the quart. I've been coming here for a long time and can say that I have never had a bad experience. I've had their main courses too but don't exactly remember what I get, I switch it up a lot, but I've never been disappointed in my orders. We were given an order number and asked for a total, and was told $108.00 I then said i didn't want to pay that much for dinner and took off 2 of the combo's, which brought dow the price to $83.00. Still not confident with price, we recalculated the prices on their menu listed on Yelp, and we came up with a total price of $59.00. Long story short. Ordered the sweet & sour chicken and lo main no veggies. Lo main okay....but , I got the chicken home and it was awful. It was for my husband for dinner. The pieces were very hard and the chicken dried up. It was like the chicken pieces set out over night! It was also re-fried!! Whats up with that.
