Been coming here since I was a kid and I'm now bringing my grandkids here. #iraeats #iraests1

Brought Grand Niece and Nephew for lunch yesterday. One hour wait but the kids didn't want to go anywhere else. They were well behaved. All the other kids waiting were great too. Food was good. Cheeseburgers for adults, Chicken Nuggets, and Grilled Cheese. Family has been coming here since the 1950's. Keep it up Choo Choo.

Quarter machines that still only cost 1 quarter!

I used to come here with my Grandfather. I heard it was bought and had new owners so I was nervous to take my son and have anything but a great experience to build off of my memories here. They knocked it out of the park! We walked right in on a Tuesday afternoon and were seated immediately. My son has the kids cheeseburger and I've never seen a toddler finish every bite of their meal until we came here! I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the chili. It was great. Awesome service, amazing ambiance, memorable, and soo affordable! 10/10 will bring my son here again!

I brought my 2 kids in for a quick meal, I wasn't hungry. They said they have a minimum of $10 per person. Fine my 2 kids ordered $30 worth of food. Apparently that was not good enough, worst of all we got our food and I look at a pice of my oldest chicken and guess what,ITS RAW.I hope this doesn't ever happen to anyone else but that was the last time.

Choo Choo is a local landmark. It's a kid-friendly diner that's been around since 1951. We came on a Saturday around 1:30pm after the lunch rush and got a table with no wait. The food is fine. I liked how thin and crisp the beef patties were, but the fries could've been more well done. The service was friendly. Bottom line, you come here and pay for the novelty and delightful experience for the littles. Our 4.5 and 2.5yo had the best time!

Food is surprisingly good in this charming diner where the main attraction is the toy train which brings the food from the kitchen. The hamburger is made smash burger style with thin crispy edges while the bun is super soft. It is not a place for conversation with pretty loud background music and tooting train horns.

You tell me what this is thw burger came out burnt and very crunchy amd crusty I was peeling it off like it was dried skin. Gross

I wouldn't give it a zero star of that was an option. Where do I start. There was a sign that says no strollers inside I understand the place is small but what if its raining thats ignorant. Than you cant split a check? Why? There is a minimum of $10 to spend? Why? What kind of place is this. We were in line waiting to be seated and they abruptly very rude told a older woman with her grandchild to move down while they were eating. Super rude. Than they have these shirts on that says choo choo your food and move your caboose? At a child's restaurant?? How ignorant is that? My god. They have a vent that has a huge hole like in the ground as people stand in line. A child could harm themselves. It should be fixed it is a hazard when its a child restaurant. The waiters/ladies did not seem happy to be there. I asked for lemons for my water and was brought a little small piece of one lemon. Noone asked us if we were ok or needed anything else. My burger came out I've never seen anything soo nasty in all my life. Theor bathrooms are ridiculous and serious need of an upgrade and cleaning with some sanitizing. Now, I've been to toot toots in glen ellyn which the restaurants are very similiar much safer environment for kids much more space very nice young group of kids and managers that work there that take care of you and actually enjoying interacting with their customers. They play child appropriate music Much cleaner environment the bathrooms are way better. The food tastes way better! This owner at choo choo needs rude awakening and some serious guidance. They also play old people music at a kids restaurant which is super odd and weird. I won't ever be back to choo choo's again terrible just terrible.

Is this business still open?

Yes, they reopened a few months ago. They were closed through COVID and then the owner passed away. But someone bought them and they are up and running again and now open at dinner. They also take credit cards now too.

The bun was the first signal they knew what they were doing--lightly toasted, just enough structure to hold everything together without stealing attention. Then came the patty: thick, juicy, with that perfect sear that gives you a bit of crisp before it melts into richness. But the real centerpiece? The fried egg. Perfectly cooked--edges slightly crisp, yolk still runny. The moment you bite in, it breaks and seeps into the meat, turning each bite into something borderline indulgent. It doesn't overpower the burger; it elevates it, adding a creamy texture that balances the salt and char of the beef. The toppings were minimal but intentional--fresh lettuce for crunch, a slice of tomato for brightness, and just enough sauce to tie it all together without making a mess. It's the kind of burger that makes you slow down halfway through, not because you're full, but because you realize it deserves your full attention. Messy in the best way, rich without being overwhelming, and anchored by that fried egg that takes it from good to unforgettable.

Just expect good food, fast. Their menu is simple: burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, pop, and milkshakes. The burgers come in either a single, double, or triple stack, with cheese. I got the cheeseburger and hubby got the two on two (double stack) and we were satisfied with the burgers. It was simple, juicy, grilled and good. The whole family loved the fries. Service was pretty fast, we got ours in less than 10 minutes. Dining tables are available inside to eat, and also a few tables outside in the parking lot if you prefer the outdoors. If you are familiar with the movie The Sandlot, they have their pictures all over the walls. Not sure if they are directly affiliated with the movie, but it definitely brings back that nostalgia. Overall, great burger joint and I would come back again!

For those who don't know, Small Cheval is the fast casual version of Au Cheval which I've had the opportunity to try in NYC. There's plenty of locations throughout Chicago so definitely make it a stop when you're in town. Now is it as good as Au Cheval? Definitely not but at one-third of the price point, it's hard to complain. The beef patties are well-seasoned with crispy edges and just the right amount of fattiness. My main complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough dijonnaise sauce or pickles, making this pretty dry. The bun was nicely buttered and toasted but almost took away from the contents inside the burger. The Famous Fried Chicken Tenders were also a good try. I could tell the chicken was clean & high quality but there was some flavor I couldn't quite place which made it a bit off-putting; thankfully it wasn't super noticeable especially with the sauces. The Golden Fries were delicious and paired well with the burger & tenders! Even the Cookies & Cream Milkshake was solid! Classic milkshake with a good balance of creaminess, sweetness, and texture from the cookie bits. The interior was also bright, spacious, and comfortable! All in all, really solid try!

It's like going to a burger place with a bar inside. I would also have to add with a side of a malt shop thrown in. The lady who took our order was very friendly. Both her and the guy making the shakes seemed competent and efficient. They were both just over worked. There was a rush when we came in so it put them behind. Everything was in good repair. There was no damage to the seats and tables and for the most part they were clean. The things that didn't work for me were the possible understaffing, and the lack of a good onion. I asked for raw onion on my burger. I inspected my burger for it and couldn't find it. So I asked for some more. She was very helpful and handed me a tiny container of minced onions. Apparently that's all they have. I do like a good slice of onion on my burger. If you're looking for a good quick bite to eat or a very tasty shake, this is a great choice! I would come back if the mood struck.
