Monster score from the Sandwich King. I concur!

I'm kicking myself in the butt for thinking this was just a kids restaurant. I've been driving past it for 46 years. Recently saw that the Sandwich King, Jeff Mauro, stopped in to review their double cheeseburger. I was shocked to see that they've been making the new trendy smashburger since 1951. It's made with New Zealand grass fed beef and is up there with the best smashburgers I've had. Very unique firm yet smoochy bun. He gave it a 5.9 out of six, he uses the six point star which is the Chicago star. My server was extremely helpful and polite. They had the little toy choo-choo train on a continuous loop. Then all of a sudden it pulled up and stopped in front of me and it contained my meal. Opted for their fantastic onion rings that cost a dollar more. It was totally worth it. The double is a big burger! Next visit I'll just get a single, cause I wanna try their handmade malt. They've only got about four booths, but there's plenty of counter space if you come in with a large group. I'm assuming they get really crowded with families on the weekends. It wasn't too crowded when I visited on a Wednesday for an early dinner. They keep everything spotless. Be aware if you need Ada bathroom as this one is certainly the tiniest bathroom I've ever been into. If you hear them blow the authentic trai horn, get ready as the train is starting. They have a couple of those old fashioned mechanical kids rides too.

Another joint I've driven past for years, and never stopped-It's usually 'cos when I'm driving past, I'm in a hurry to get home for one reason or another. The other night Wife and I were peckish and in the mood for burger, and the Choo-Choo here was right in front of us! Easy Parking and all, and the booths looked open. This is a historic place, been there for 73 years! And it looks like it-not a pejorative statement at all. It's been very well preserved. Railroads are the theme, here~everywhere you look. Including the working model train circling the counter that actually delivers your food to where you are. Kitschy, unique and most of all...FUN! About the food, Burgers are the focus. Great Smashed never-frozen Beef. Whoever is in the kitchen has the knack to get that crunchy corona around the edge-a hallmark of a perfect smasher, while keeping the rest of the patty nice and juicy. Now I know how this place has survived 73 years. You can get a single or double. They come with lettuce and tomato and pickle on request. Also crinkle-cut fries. You have to ask for onions, which they provide on the side in a small cup. If you want mayo, they'll provide small packets for you to apply on your own. There is a hot dog on the menu, a nice jumbo, but it's nothing special-stick with the burgers. Hand-dipped Ice Cream is also featured with Shakes as well. We saw the counter gals prepping the shake station and they look serious about it. If you have kids, there are a few little antique-but-still-working "Rides". I believe you have to ask for tokens from the counter to use them. Don't be shocked by the bill. This ain't exactly a bargain feed. But you certainly get what you pay for. It's an honest trip back to another time, kinda like Powers Hamburgers in Fort Wayne. And every once in a while the counter staff pulls a rope and a train whistle sounds! An altogether treat-Truly worth 5 stars...

Been coming here since I was a kid and I'm now bringing my grandkids here. #iraeats #iraests1

Brought Grand Niece and Nephew for lunch yesterday. One hour wait but the kids didn't want to go anywhere else. They were well behaved. All the other kids waiting were great too. Food was good. Cheeseburgers for adults, Chicken Nuggets, and Grilled Cheese. Family has been coming here since the 1950's. Keep it up Choo Choo.

Quarter machines that still only cost 1 quarter!

I used to come here with my Grandfather. I heard it was bought and had new owners so I was nervous to take my son and have anything but a great experience to build off of my memories here. They knocked it out of the park! We walked right in on a Tuesday afternoon and were seated immediately. My son has the kids cheeseburger and I've never seen a toddler finish every bite of their meal until we came here! I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the chili. It was great. Awesome service, amazing ambiance, memorable, and soo affordable! 10/10 will bring my son here again!

Choo Choo is a local landmark. It's a kid-friendly diner that's been around since 1951. We came on a Saturday around 1:30pm after the lunch rush and got a table with no wait. The food is fine. I liked how thin and crisp the beef patties were, but the fries could've been more well done. The service was friendly. Bottom line, you come here and pay for the novelty and delightful experience for the littles. Our 4.5 and 2.5yo had the best time!

    Is this business still open?

Yes, they reopened a few months ago. They were closed through COVID and then the owner passed away. But someone bought them and they are up and running again and now open at dinner. They also take credit cards now too.

Two of my friends ordered their burgers with the bumper sauce on the side. When our food came out, there was only one cup of sauce for both burgers. My friend politely went up to the counter and explained that both burgers were supposed to have the sauce on the side. That's when Garrett, who identified himself as the manager, turned what should have been a 10-second fix into an unnecessary confrontation. The most unbelievable part was watching another employee try to make things right by handing us a full cup of sauce, only for Garrett to take it away, pour some of it out, and hand us back a half-filled cup just to prove a point. I've honestly never seen a manager act that petty over something so insignificant. Seriously...what kind of business sense does that make? Three customers spend $60, and you're willing to lose them over sauce that costs less than a dollar? Instead of taking care of customers and supporting his employee, Garrett chose to argue over a condiment. This wasn't about trying to get something for free. We were simply asking for what was ordered. A good manager understands that customer service is what keeps people coming back. Unfortunately, Garrett showed the exact opposite. The food itself was good, but customer service can make or break a restaurant. Because of how Garrett handled such a simple issue, we won't be back, and I certainly can't recommend this place to anyone looking to be treated with respect.

In the meantime, I ordered a Hot Chick (medium heat), with a side of fries, some extra pickles, and the garlic sauce to make my Slavic heart happy. The food came out fresh from the bubbling oil, it could be handled without burns, but clearly spent no time under a lamp. Both the chicken and the fries were fried to a delectable crunch. No twice-fried-as-an-excuse here, genuinely well done. My only note is that it feels as though the fries and chicken *may* have spent an extra 15 seconds in the fryer. While the innards were tender, it felt as though a tinge of moisture was sacrificed without need. The fries were seasoned perfectly, and other than the usual delight of dipping them into everything on the plate, they were perfect as they were. Fantastic amount too, not the starch overload of Five Guys, but not a skimpy serving either. The chicken sandwich was the real star. The medium contained some proper spice without having smoke come out the ears. It was well sauced, and had a great hit of acid from the pickles. Out of left field came the slaw: I was not expecting to like this to the point of almost leaving it out. However, it was fresh, felt homemade, and wasn't a mayonnaise bomb. Would order the again without complaints or reservations. I also had a chance to try their house-made lemonade. I appreciate that they use zero-calorie sweetener to cut down on sugars. However, it came out too sweet for my liking. It would be helpful to have options of level and type of sweet. Final notes: The server behind the counter was very welcoming and friendly, and the food came out in a reasonable time frame considering how fresh everything was. Final verdict: A case where I say it's a good thing Nash Bros is a little bit of a hike, otherwise I might visit too much for my health. Barring some minor notes, everything was scrumptious, and I'd happily order it all again (and likely will!)

We got here about 30 minutes before closing time. The restaurant was somewhat busy w/ dine-in and carry-out orders. I ordered their original Nashville Hot fried chicken sandwich made Xtra Hot based on their heat level offerings (which was the highest heat level) and my wife ordered their Honey Butter fried chicken sandwich with mild heat level. I also got their House Fries that were seasoned crinkle cut fries. We asked for cups of water but were told that they were out of cups, so either buy water or can of pop. They did not have fountain drinks. The food came out shortly. My etra hot sandwich tray was tagged as 'Hot' w/ three symbols. I asked them if that meant the sandwich was just 'Hot' and not 'Xtra Hot' and I was told that if I ordered extra hot then it meant it was extra hot. My sandwich was really delicious. The flavor was good and the texture was nice. The Xtra Hot flavor was not overwhelming but also it did not seem like the extra hot they said I should be mindful of because it was going to be very spicy. My sandwich was decently crunchy and the pickles and coleslaw had a tad bit of sweetness that went well with the heat of the fried chicken. The Brioche bun was well toasted. The fried chicken patty was decent in size. The Honey Butter fried chicken was a major letdown. It's a sandwich in Brioche bun w/ fried chicken and only spicy honey butter (no pickles or slaw). The bun and the fried chicken were drenched in melted butter but there was no taste of sweet heat or just sweet honey. The fried chicken patty didn't have any flavor either. We mentioned it to the staff members and they apologized for the way it turned out for us. The crinkle cut fries were okay. They were soft and unevenly seasoned. The seasoning was decent in taste. Overall, we had a decent experience. The service was okay. My original Nashville hot chicken was delicious but the Honey Butter chicken sandwich was anything but delicious. The restaurant aesthetics were decent. They have a live band performance area. It's a nice, friendly restaurant with a decent menu variety. We weren't wowed by the food but I would say that the original Nashville Hot fried chicken sandwich was worth trying.
