At this location they are truly trying to please their patrons! We regularly buy their high protein/low carb bread but the last two loaves had large holes throughout. They didn't make for the usual nice morning toast. When I brought back one of the loaves in the morning of May 5 and explained to the the kind lady in the bakery, she happily took care of it and even gifted a couple of cookies to boot. If you have never tried a Jewish Slider at Chompie's, you are missing out! They are so good! They've even been featured on the Travel Channel. Chompie's has a long history here in The Valley (over 40 years!). I personally have been coming here since my college days. I love New York-style delis and it's nice to have one here in the Valley. Chompie's menu is huge and offers a variety of East Coast comfort food. They are mostly known for their bagels and sell them nationwide. The deli in the front of the restaurant has prepared meats, cheeses, salads, and smoked fish. They also have a bakery next to the deli with all sorts of breads and pastries. I dine here often, but haven't even come close to trying everything. The Jewish Sliders of course are amazing. The Mile-High Sandwich has loads of pastrami on rye. The Meatloaf, Braised Brisket, and Rueben sandwich are also some of my favorites. During Passover season, I like to swing by and get a bowl of Matzo Ball soup. Breakfast is served till 3pm and you must order some of their popular potatoes pancakes. You won't regret it. I visit NYC city often and Chompie's makes you feel like you are in the city. This was my second visit to Chompie's while driving through the city of Phoenix. We were able to eat inside with social distancing. The restaurant was not full at all! I had to have their incredibly and famous Chicken Salad Sandwich again while my husband enjoyed a nice Pastrami sandwich with Matzo ball soup. Our server Jackie was so kind and helped us with our decision since there is so much to choose from on the menu. We also decided to try a chocolate egg creme drink. I thought it was interesting and just meh. At last our food arrived and again I can't stress how delicious their chicken salad sandwich is! By far the best I have ever had. The pastrami was also made just the right way and paired perfectly with the soup. Whenever I am in Phoenix, I will always make a stop here to eat. In addition to the restaurant, they have a huge bakery with all kinds of fresh bread, cakes, cookies and other Jewish delights. I could take stock out on this company just for the chicken salad (Ha! Gluten free bagel was honestly inedible, food arrived cold and loaded w: salt. I spent 5 minutes actually trying to make a sandwich out of the blob I got, as the cheese was melted to the bottom of the container and the over easy eggs broke as soon as I tried to lift them onto the bagel... where it was supposed to be in the first place.... Been coming to this Chompie's for 6 years or so and the food is always consistent. This time though our service was EXCEPTIONAL. Our server Lucinda was super nice and got us everything we needed in a timely manner. She was so nice to our family and gave my son a cookie which was just such a nice extra touch. First time at this location. When I drove up there were very few cars outside. I was expecting a half empty restaurant. There were more tables occupied, than I expected. However, the tables that were empty were full of dirty dishes. There were people standing at the Hostess station to be seated and others thinking they could pay at the Hostess station. There were no staff in sight. After standing around for ten minutes, I was getting ready to leave; someone popped up. I decided to sit at the bar... I thought I would get better, faster service and that was not the case. I waited for almost 10 minutes before the server took my drink order. I ordered a Blue Moon. I was given a menu and then he disappeared. When my server finally appeared again I ordered the corned beef, pastrami and brisket sandwich. My sandwich came packed with layer of meat. I was expecting some type of moisture like 1000 island or some mustard. I gave up on trying to get my server's attention. I ate the dry sandwich with fries. The fries were ok. I would probably give this place another try. I was given a free black & white cookie at when I checked in on Yelp. Had the best service from Dalynn for breakfast on Sunday (a week ago). She was so kind and friendly, I wanted to bring her home with me. She was so awesome we came back the next day.. but she wasn't there and the person who served us that day was nowhere near as good but the food was still on point. The keto bagel with Lox cream cheese, amazing! Their coffee, omelette, bacon, and sausage was also all good. Manager tried telling us that they raised prices because the fish is so expensive now. Might I suggest trying Costco for their amazing lox and at a reasonable price. We were promptly sat and our server seemed nice, but had to chase after silverware. The hot pastrami arrived on rye and looked good but that is where it ended. The rye bread was stale. The pastrami was very fatty and grizzly. Once he picked off the fat and there was half a sandwich left, which was not very tasty. We had a great experience here. The food was good and our service was exceptional. Food arrived at table hot and very soon after we had ordered. The cadence of table touches was perfect. Mr. P and I were out and about and thought "today seems like a good day for Chompie's". So we made a special trip to this location, situated by the Chandler Mall. Surprisingly, the parking lot was super empty. But it was a bit late in the afternoon, so we figured it was just a lull between lunch and dinner. We walk in and stand up front for a while before we are acknowledged. It is a ghost town inside, less one older couple. We're finally greeted and get put in a very isolated back room. I should also probably mention that this room is like a giant Faraday cage. Mr P's work had an emergency and he needed to call in. It was a crazy dead zone, and he dropped his calls like 4 times. If they start to close the divider and lock us in, I'm making a run for it. I don't have to run fast, I just have to run faster than Mr P! So I order Mr. P the Nova Lox on an onion bagel with capers, onions and the other toppings. Simple enough. I order a cup of pea soup. His order is totally wrong. He gets salmon. The server later brings a cup of capers. The bagel is totally not onion...not sure what it is. My soup is fine. Brought the incorrect order to the attention of our server, and she was super snippy about it. Nevermind, we'll deal. Guess we just got Chompie's B Team today, because your service sucks. "The salmon and the lox are different", she says. You don't say. That's why I ordered the lox. We're trying to get out of there, but the server (Valerie?) is nowhere. I had also wanted to add a few deli items to my order. So after a good wait, I opt to just go up and ask. I order 3 deli items and it takes the young man a hundred years to package them. Then nobody can still find my server, so I just pay separately. When I get back to the table, our check has appeared, and I pay it. The one nice thing is that she recognizes that I have points and asks if I'd like to use them. I hadn't realized I did, so that was decent. We paid, and we were out of there. Probably our first unsatisfying Chompie's visit. Next time, we should just head for the Tempe location, where we always have a great experience, and a great meal [that we ordered]. read more

So so awesome!!!!!!!! Best comfort food I have found in ages! The grilled tuna melt reminded me of my Gram's and they have actual jojos instead of fries. The jojos were super fresh and nothing like you'd ever find in a deli! Lucinda was perfect and friendly, as well as informative without being over bearing. Service was prompt and great. The environment is comfy and the benches for the booths are actually wide enough for a pregnant momma to fit in comfortably. I can't recommend this place enough!!! read more

Today a happy/sad day, drove from Tucson to Phoenix, expecting to be rewarded with a great pastrami sandwich at Chompies near ASU. Discovered thr location closed 6 months ago. THEN was astounded to find out there is a Chompies in Chandler, on Fry Rd., closer to Tucson, and it has been there for 13 years!? Oh happier day. The bakery, the pickles, the pastrami, the chopped liver - all things not anymore found in Tucson. Yes it is a drive. Yes it is worth it. Business trips to Phoenix got better. What a nice surprise. I have to say that the management handled our botched order from the last review better than most places. Thank goodness! The food here is really amazing. I love their Matzo Ball soup. Their desserts are delicious and their sandwiches are huge. Nice to have great deli food in the area. We have been back via Curbside several times since the incident and they have obviously made sure to fix the issue with their staff, which is all we wanted. I really have to give props to their managers for sincerely working to improve the customer service. It really is a sign that they care about running a good business and are humble about their mistakes. We will be loyal patrons from now on. read more

Check in and you will receive one of their delicious black and white cookies, (chocolate and vanilla frosting) which are too big to eat by yourself and good for sharing (if you like)! **If you are staying at the Westin Element down the street, you will receive a 20% discount. Some of the servers do not know about the discount, so it's a good idea to inquire first. As you enter the restaurant, their display cases of baked goods, bread and deli items always make me stop and look at everything. Save your appetites for after the meal and take some items to go whether you want something sweet for dessert or deli items to grab for another meal later. Our server for breakfast was Mimi and she was fantastic! Super friendly and our food was served quickly. Mimi was also very attentive. Split French toast breakfast: Classic French toast (6 pieces), 3 strips of bacon and 2 eggs. This meal is great if you can't decide on sweet and/or salty for breakfast, which is me half of the time. Perfect size for splitting with endless coffee. If you opt out of breakfast, you can order a classic new york deli-style pastrami or corned beef sandwich. The breakfast menu also has a good selection of breakfast items and the hardest part is narrowing down your options in time to order. The restaurant is roomy and they bus tables quickly, so there is never evidence lingering of large crowds - - which sometimes breakfast restaurants tend to do. Plenty of parking in shopping center where the restaurant is located, too, especially for big cars. We drove the truck today and you can always tell if there is large truck/SUV parking when you drive up and there's already big cars comfortably parked in the lot. read more

Chompies has been our favorite breakfast spot for several years. We took our grandkids there as a treat a few days ago and they seem to be facing the same challenges that many restaurants are facing post COVID. Many places are short staffed on the floor and in the kitchen. Our server was great and very attentive despite the fact that she had many more tables than usual. All of the meals came out at the same time-great! The food was just fair. The hash browns ( which we all ordered)' were over cooked and past "crunchy". The potatoes were cold, hard and uniformly over done- a first for us there. The eggs were good and bagels-always great. It wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. The only reason I rated them a 4 instead of a 5 is because they lack gluten free breakfast options ( other than a plain bagel). My granddaughter would have loved to have had pancakes which weren't an option. The gorgeous baked goods case is devoid of gf options-a shame because there are some yummy items there! I recognize that gluten free food prep has to have a dedicated space so there isn't cross contamination. People with celiacs want choices too! We do plan to return to try it again without the children but we really appreciate restaurants that have a more inclusive menu! read more

Since I moved away from the Valley, I've missed my Chompie stops! We usually visit for breakfast or Friday fish and chips. So this was a chance to try their soup and slider combo! I had the mushroom beef and barley soup and selected the Original Jewish slider (brisket, potato latke and gravy) and the New Jersey (pastrami, Swiss, thousand island and slaw). Both on yummy challah buns. Very filling and yummy. My husband had the sweet and sour cabbage soup, the Western slider (brisket, bbq sauce, onion straws) and the New Jersey.
