Not sure what has happened to this place. It used to be a family favorite for breakfast. The food quality has extremely changed. Everything used to be so good but now it's almost like they find any leftover ingredient and throw it together to serve you. Even the bagels are not fresh. Other than one waitress who's always so sweet (miss L) everyone else just seem like they truly hate their job or people in general. There is one guy who's been our server the last few times we've gone, he just takes top place for bad service. He's always angry, shows up to greet the table late, then rushes you to take the order and when we've asked for more coffee, he's disappeared. I understand that he might be having a bad day or going through something but when it becomes a pattern and it's the same every single time then it becomes a problem. And I have to say the place has not been the cleanest, it's like you get the ick being there and the last time my family and I were there, sure enough, we saw a roach crawling right next to us on the table. It is disgusting! Needless to say we barely touched our food and left. To the managers and owners of this place, please take the time to really clean and maybe call pest control. This is not ok! UPDATE- I spoke to the manager who was very upset with how my experience went. She appreciated my calling and said the GM will call tomorrow to make things right. I am very impressed. I know I said I would not go back but family was in town so we stopped for baked goodies. I had asked for a sample of rainbow cookies that we had already ordered because my mom and niece had never had them. I was told I can only sample something BEFORE I order it. We likely would have gotten more if allowed a sample because the others loved the ones we bought. We spent $60 in less than 10 minutes. Surely a little sample would not have broken the bank. Stopped by here for the first time on Saturday afternoon in a group of 6. It wasn't too busy, we were sat right away. It did take quite awhile for our server to come around and ask what we would like to drink. Once the server came by for our drink order, he was very responsive and quick. The menu is expansive and easily accommodates everyone. Portion sizes good except for the sandwich- A half for $17.99 seemed pricey and kinda small. The potato salad was excellent. Skillets were loaded and the bagels were served fresh: many choices and many cream cheeses. Service friendly and adequate: servers had large areas to cover. Atmosphere friendly and casual. The setting is a large New York-style deli, including a giant display case of savory foods and baked goods the second you walk in the front door. The staff was friendly and seated us right away and our server was attentive and had a great personality. The food was served hot and the perfect 'comfort' dish. Came recently for a quick dinner before heading to another event. Store wasn't busy and we were immediately sat at a booth. Our server, Allison, was attentive and friendly. Unfortunately this place has really gone down hill in the quality of their food. I used to really enjoy their pastrami, but my wife and I dropped by today and both our dishes were just mediocre. My 1/2 pastrami on sourdough had no flavor and the bread was dry. My matzoball soup was OK, but not near as good as it used to be. My wife had the open face tuna melt and she not only didn't finish it, but said she wouldn't recommend it. On a more positive note, plenty of parking, not crowded and easy to get a table and the service was great; but you return to restaurants for the food and we not be going back very soon. read more

I've been a fan of Chompies forever, but today's experience absolutely blew me away. I ordered their breakfast sliders (helloooo challah bread) and a black and white cookie via doordash and man alive was it good. The hashbrowns were crispy and delicious and the sliders! My lanta. I could only eat one lol but I'm definitely saving the other for later. The challah bread was fluffy and lovely, while the sausage, egg, and cheese provided the savory aspect. The black and white cookie was GINORMOUS lol and will definitely take some nibbling over time. This was such a a great experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend checking this place out. read more

Arrived and waited a little bit to be seated even though the restaurant was near empty. Tried the Salad Sampler, a new menu item that can be shared or works as an entree as well. The food is presented on a board and includes one scoop of chicken salad, tuna salad and egg salad with a bagel, cucumbers, tomatoes and red onion. Delicious and very satisfying. So, I am a Reuben fan! It is literally my favorite sandwich. If it is on the menu I am trying it. Still not New York but this sandwich is excellent. It is a little pricy as I eat Reuben's all around the country. But the large portion size of thinly sliced corned beef, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing, melted in my mouth. Their Rye bread tastes bakery fresh. The combination had my feet swinging for joy. The service was fast and efficient for the lunch crowd. We enjoyed are meal and everyone was satisfied. My husband wanted to try this place and I was prepared to only have a drink as someone with celiac disease. Apparently Chompie's used to have a gluten-free menu but no longer have a separate menu nor do they have a marked menu. Unfortunately the website doesn't reflect this information and still displays a "gluten-free friendly" page with information about accessing their gluten-free menu. Today their website reads: "You'll find the scrumptious gluten-free goodies you've been craving on our restaurant menu and at our bakery counter. Our gluten-friendly menu was created with gluten allergies and gluten sensitivity in mind. Browse our Menu for gluten-free friendly menu items as well as selections on our Kids' Menu. You may also order gluten-friendly items from our online store." The waiter told me that although they don't have a gluten-free menu anymore, the omelets are just cracked eggs with no additives like other famous breakfast chains. He said they could make an omelets gluten-free as long as my side was fruit because the potatoes are t celiac-safe. I had the $16.28 chorizo con queso omelet with a side of fruit and a gluten-free bagel. I asked that they neither toast it nor cut it to prevent cross contamination. They brought me a serrated knife to cut it myself. My husband had a not gluten-free pastrami sandwich for $15.99 and he liked it. Overall, my meal was fine but I wouldn't come here as a celiac by myself. There's just way too much gluten that could potentially cross-contaminate the meal. As an aside, one thing that bothered me that wasn't food related was that their male busser was listening to music and then having a facetime conversation with a woman with his phone tucked into his hat. Came in on a late Sunday morning, wait was about 15 minutes. Had the New York sliders and a brisket breakfast sandwich. Sliders were super yummy and easy to eat. Three and a half stars, but rounding up since I grew up often eating at one of their original locations (I always had one of those New York Seltzers, and for some reason, they served albondigas soup). I had a pastrami Reuben with potato salad. First, the potato salad was great. Creamy and chunky, and not too salty. The Reuben overall was tasty, but the pastrami was really oily and it just wasn't particularly tender. I hate it when I take a bite out of a sandwich and can't pierce through all the fillings. Then as I pull away, a bunch of fillings get pulled out and dribble all over the place. And then I'm left with a lop-sided sandwich. A tasty, but lop-sided sandwich. Come here for tasty NY deli standards, but you might end up with a lop-sided sandwich. read more

Stopped by Chompie's on our way home from the airport Saturday morning and it was really good food. We got there around 10:00 and they were busy but not full, we were immediately seated and soon our waitress came by to get our drink orders. I have had lunch there several times and I always get the "Chompie's Choice" sandwich (corned beef & pastrami) so when I saw the Corned Beef Hash on the breakfast menu I had high expectations and we were not disappointed. As usual a large plate of corned beef hash with crispy well seasoned potatoes, soft scrambled eggs, and an everything bagel along with a side of potato pancake was plenty of food for the two of us. The corned beef was very tender and flavorful, the eggs were soft and fluffy and the everything bagel was fresh and perfectly toasted. Can't remember the last time I had latke but it was crispy and with a smear of sour cream; it was very good. Overall a very good breakfast and we hope to get back there soon. read more

Terrible I walked in this morning to the deli Counter 3 staff and NO one acknowledged me at all I stood there looking at the case and a party came from the restaurant looking to purchase some goodies they had on the table watch right up to the register and the girl was like hi how can I help you after I've been standing there for five minutes never acknowledged me at all I walked out ! Good quality kosher deli. Not quite as good as the East Coast but for Arizona it is quite good. We were here for a Bat Mitzvah Shabbat dinner and had stuffed cabbage and brisket with carrots and latkes. The ambiance was nice with New York decor and the service was fast and friendly. read more

Got a kind helpful and joyful welcome from Brian. Told him my mom loved Chompies and the Early Riser was her last request to eat before dying. We being in town from California. Waitress was okay, not the most friendly, until the tip. I ordered a side salad and breakfast potatoes. Salad had egg, so they replaced it. Not the best, lettuce didn't look or taste the freshest. Just got home from there. Having been there many times, this was by far the worst. After spending $50.00, the Mrs. had a half pastrami, and the meat was about half of what it used to be. I had the pastrami, corned beef, and brisket; the brisket was dry and overcooked, and the pastrami and corned beef were hardly any. The only thing good was the pickles and potato salad. And of course I did not take pictures as the phone was @ home. The picture is @ home, This is what is left of the Mrs half, and she only ate half. I give them a 4 because I never ate in the dining room area. Only coming in to get keto bread and gluten free cookies. They do have a nice selection but not to many for glutinous free. This was my first time visiting this restaurant. From the minute you walk in and see cases of beautiful baked goods, you know it's got to be good. The staff was welcoming and very courteous. Service was fast and efficient even during lunch. The food was great. I got the half Rueben with the clam chowder, and it was excellent. I will definitely return here again. Tried Chompie's a few times and as a person who was raised Jewish, it just really doesn't cut it for me. The blintzes are so loaded with sugar that the taste is off and the latkes and pastrami are extremely greasy. I like that there are GF options but even some of them have illegal ingredients like rye flour. I do love the fun assortment of bagels and cream cheese. The staff is nice but not at all educated on ingredients or kitchen capabilities. I love trompe's you walk into the great big bakery area oh my gosh everything looks so good and it is trust me. I probably tried most of the things in the bakery lol. It is a charming environment nothing to write home about lol but it's fine. Everything seems clean they stay busy the locations I have been to, but this one is near the Chandler mall has good parking and I've never had to wait more than 5 to 10 minutes for a seat, even if it's busy I love the beef and barley soup. I was very unimpressed with my most recent visit, and I like to think it doesn't have as much to do with the restaurant chain as maybe the cooks/server? My pastrami slider was served room temperature, the role seemed to have just come out of a fridge, the cheese wasn't melted at all. It was really very awful. The matzo ball soup is lacking flavor.
