Welp another place where the service was not great. Drinks were hard to get and our order was wrong. The server put in my son's order incorrectly and did nothing about it. Kind of a letdown when it comes to their bakery. I was looking forward to a visit here as I sometimes miss home and always looking for a good bialy. I bought a loaf of marble rye ($7) and three bialys ($2 each) here. There are plenty of other bakery items available including an assortment of bagels, babka bread, and cookies. Marble rye is pretty good but at $7 a loaf, this will likely be an occasional purchase to rotate with the other breads I enjoy. What was very disappointing were the bialys. They had no onion filling or did they even taste like bialys. It's been hard to find good bialys here but it was also kind of hard back in NYC too. I guess they are old fashioned and going out of style... I did see they make pumpernickel bagels, so I could be back in here to try to those out. There's a restaurant here also, so I could be convinced to give that a try. We'll see... read more

Food is to big and not great. It's pricey and they concentrate the meat in the middle of the sandwich not the parameter. It's loud!

I didn't get to take any pictures but I ordered the Times Square New Yorker without the coleslaw which came with a 4oz cup of potato salad and a drink. Stopped in today as I had not been to Chompies for some time, and they recognized my birthday with a coupon (be sure to sign up for their club!). Very pleasant waitstaff - got my order correct and quickly. I had the corned beef sandwich and cole slaw - both were very good. Half of the sandwich goes home, of course. The food was really good, the portions were large and the service was fast and courteous. It's a large restaurant so plenty of seating even during peak hours. The menu is large and offers something for everyone. The take out bakery is the star! After eating a large meal we got several bakery items to take home. The cookies are so delicious but the bread and rolls were so delicious. I recommend it - and don't forget dessert. read more

The service here was so bad and I'm very bummed about it. I looked at the menu before deciding to come here over Cheesecake Factory and im regretting it. I got here around 6:30 on a Tuesday night. I literally waited 25 minutes at the check in booth before being seated. Multiple employees saw me standing there. The hostess took a large party of 12 to a table and never came back. Two girls were behind behind the bakery counter and said they were not able to seat me because they were not hostesses. I continued to wait against my better judgment. When I was finally seated, the girl who walked me to a table, was one of the ones who was behind the counter. She was very nice, but could not find the menus and sat me at a dirty table. It took another 10 minutes before my waiter came and asked me for my drink order. I should've left then but I was so hungry and it wasn't busy so figured food would come out quick. I placed an order, and waited a normal amount of time to get my meal. I chose to get a burger and subbed the bread for sourdough. The bottom of the bread was so greasy when I picked it up, that the entire sandwich fell apart. My hands were literally covered in grease. I picked at the rest of the sandwich before finally giving up. The fries that came as the side were OK, but they didn't have any flavor. It took quite some time for the waiter to come back to check on me, and by that time, I just asked for the bill. He asked how everything was and I said fine, and I don't think he was really paying attention or cared about my answer. After paying for my meal, I walked back over to the bakery counter because I wanted to take a cookie and a bagel home. The gal behind the counter was the same one who sat me earlier and she was nice. She got me a black and white cookie, and then I asked if they had any more sesame bagels. Now, when I was sitting at my table, I saw another girl putting the bagels away. I asked for a sesame bagel, and she said they didn't have any more. That girl looked at me and said with an attitude these are the only ones we have left. I chose to get a cheddar jalapeño bagel, even though I knew that they still had sesame and I don't know why she didn't want to give me one. Are you hoarding the sesame bagels to take home? Overall, this was a very awful experience. I am visiting from out of town and was really looking forward to trying the bread and bagels at this place. The fact that I was in this restaurant for over an hour and a half due to terrible, terrible service, and terrible food was a very huge waste of my night. read more

While the employees at deli counter were wonderful, the quality of the food has gone downhill. In New York, I worked in Ben's kosher deli and chompies is very much like the kosher deli, but the quality is not there. The prices are outrageous as well. 7 for one knish? Solid experience tonight great corned beef on rye sandwich wife had the liver and onions dinner not my favorite but she said it was tender and delicious so I'm taking her word on this one . we went for breakfast yesterday and ordered an omelet it was cardboard eggs, not fresh fluffy omelet like you would expect for 14$ we use to go there regularly for breakfast but not anymore. the table condiment bottles were dirty---the salt and pepper shakers dirty. no detail to cleanliness. My first time at this Chandler location. I ordered an egg salad/tuna with red onion on Jewish Rye, a side of coleslaw, and a bowl of the sweet and sour cabbage soup I have had at the other locations. This review is only about the soup. It was lukewarm if that...but to my taste...have they changed the recipe and are now using artificial sweeteners to it ??? I didn't eat more than 2 spoons the odd taste lingered for hours. If you do use in your soup PLEASE alert the customer on the menu. Other than that I am a happy customer. read more

I ordered a bagel breakfast sandwich to go and while waiting to pick up I noticed flies in the display case for your pastries. They were all over your canolis and fruit filled pastries. I literally wanted to ask for a refund but proceeded to pick up my order. It did make me think quite a bit and i had to check my sandwich for extra unwanted ingredients. Then after leaving I felt like I should make sure other restaurant guests don't see the same thing so I called and the manager on duty at the time said they have known about this issue and are getting it "fixed". I was planning a DoorDash and a Reuben sandwich which is listed about $18 but my daughter graciously told me she would pick up the order. Whoever took her order talked her into a New Yorker, adding cheese and sauerkraut for three dollars more and never grilling the sandwich I was charged $24 for the sandwich And I'm a bit irritated on the upsell. My husband ordered the pastrami bagel sandwich and also loved his meal. Coffee was yummy and cup was always kept full. I'm a grip surprised I had yet to review this joint. Yesterday was my 2nd visit. My friend had never been so I suggest we post up. He quickly discovered the foyer was the deli sandwich, and bakery area. We're both ginormous fans of sandwiches so he was impressed. Labor Day Monday, 09.04.2023, was busy as anticipated but the wait for a table in the restaurant was short. We were greeted by the hostess immediately even though the lobby area was packed with waiting patrons. The decor was to remind folks of New York City, specifically. However, I've only visited albeit briefly. Our server was kind, swift, and accurate. I rolled with a Steve G's Five-Town Special (sandwich), and my bro, ordered a burger. We were on a succinct timeline so we ate, we paid, and I left with a mini slice of carrot cake. If you're a New Yorker transplant, might I suggest stopping in. PLEASE PLEASE bring it back!!! It's the best on a Jalapeno Cheddar bagel. Also, the chairs need to be replaced- they have been there for years and years and are rickety!! The breakfast at chompies was mostly fair. The pancakes were not fluffy but more chewy. The sausage links were good but the diced potatoes had too much onions in it and not much taste. EXPECTED BETTER! Our dad took my sisters and I out to lunch, and he picked Chompies. I read the menu prior and was super excited to eat here. To start i had a red sangria. It was delicious, and loaded with fruit....not ice. Definitely got a bang for the buck!! We got a basket of pickles, and those were great!! My pastrami sandwich stated " smothered" in coleslaw, and 1000. It was so boring, dry and not smothered one bit; plus was expecting toasted bread,which it was not. I had to ask for a side of 1000. The coleslaw as my side dish was super good though. I tried the peirogies; they were good,but boring aswell. the sweet and sour stuffed cabbage was SUPER sweet with molasses- no sour. It was definitely lacking that contrast. I definitely wont be back, and thats a shame,because the menu sounds so scrumptious,id love to try it all. Service is slow , but was friendly. read more

What a delightful surprise this restaurant is! They are a bakery as well as a deli restaurant and they make the best bagels! They actually fly in the water necessary to make bagels from New York!!! My husband ordered the American breakfast and he gave me some of his breakfast sausage which was without a doubt the best I have ever had in a restaurant! Besides great service and amazing food, they are socially minded and have pamphlets for children's help programs. This is my new favorite deli restaurant and I can't wait to try their Reuben! I am a regular here at Chompies & I'm not sure if it was just because it was 750pm but I was told by the young girl at the "to go" counter (they close at 8pm) that they were unable to sell me macaroni salad because it was already wrapped for the night!! What?!!!! It's Saran Wrap!!!! The Scottsdale location has much friendlier, more helpful & accommodating staff. When we spend $48 for TWO sandwiches, nothing else, you would think management would ask the staff to unwrap the Saran Wrap. At first they told me I couldn't even have a sandwich because the kitchen closes at 745pm. I said can you please just go see if it's possible they still have some extra lean corned beef left? The hostess went & checked & sent me over to the not-so friendly girl named Charlie that couldn't take off some Saran Wrap. NOT the way to treat customers that spend good money for a sandwich. It's a sad day when good customer service is this hard to find. Hopefully management has a little training on how to open Saran Wrap with Charlie. . I will go to the Scottsdale location in the future. To add insult to injury, I paid .99 extra for Swiss & asked for toasted sourdough. I got no Swiss & untoasted rye bread. Unbelievable. My husband and I are long time fans of Chompies and this last time was no exception. Paul really enjoys the chopped liver in a sandwich. The blend of spices are just perfect for his palate. Me? I'm so much a fan of their pierogies fried to perfection with the best onion strings fried as well to perfection. What a treat. This is a restaurant that has something for everyone. From sliders of any kind to soups and sandwiches to delight everyone and then come the specialty meals. The server was friendly and helpful as always. The ambiance ideal for a great meal. I was excited to find a NY deli restaurant nearby. Felicia is a great front of the house manager. The bagel was decent, not the best but their rainbow cookies are to die for. There pastry platter was a hit at my jobs meeting. Will be ordering another one this week. read more
