Italian Hoagie, added hot peppers, no onions
Katy T.

I've had this place bookmarked for a WHILE, but I don't live in the area. I happened to be nearby last week for an appointment, and had some time to kill and decided that this was the perfect chance to check it out! I walked in and immediately noticed all the Eagles (and other philly teams) pennants and memorabilia decorating the inside. Go birds!! When I was greeted, I told them it was my first time in. The owner Rita gave me a run down of the menu, and I went with the Italian hoagie. She was so friendly and helpful. My Italian hoagie was epic. 10/10 would order again. So fresh, and chocked full of all the best toppings. While I was eating, I could hear Rita greeting all the other customers as they came in, asking many of them how their families were and what's new in their lives. She was so kind and friendly with every single person, and made a connection with each. I can't wait to make a trip back and bring my family! Next visit I will be trying the og philly cheese steak!

I've been coming to Philly's Famous Cheesesteaks for over 10 years. It's a small, family-owned shop tucked into a strip mall on Alma School Road, on the northwest corner of Alma School and Ray, and it's one of those longtime local places I'm always happy to support. I normally order the Chicken Cheesesteak, which is always delicious, but today I decided to mix it up a little. I kept it simple with chicken, American cheese, and jalapeños on their delicious hoagie roll. SO good! The hoagie roll really makes the sandwich--soft, fresh, and perfect with the filling. The service is always friendly and excellent, and the food has been consistently good throughout all the years I've been coming here. If you're craving a good cheesesteak and want to support a longtime family-owned Chandler business, definitely give Philly's Famous a try!

Menu to the best Philly cheesesteak restaurant in AZ

I first found this hidden gem in 2014 thanks to a conversation at my local dog park. Back then, their menu wasn't online, so I snapped a photo and posted it with my first review, and I've been a loyal fan ever since. From the outside, this place might not scream "life-changing sandwich," but the moment you take your first bite, you'll know you're somewhere special. The food is outstanding, flavorful, generous, and made with love. It's the kind of food that makes East Coasters feel like they're back home and locals feel like they just discovered their new favorite spot. But it's not just the food, it's the people. The warmth and kindness of this family-run business make it stand out even more. Rita, Sarah, and Jacob always greet me with genuine smiles, and even after we moved away from Arizona in 2023 and returned two years later, they remembered my name like no time had passed. (They still tease my husband for forgetting his, all in good fun!) Megan was the first person we met when we came in all those years ago, and she instantly made us feel welcome. She's amazing. Although she is now a successful realtor and no longer working in the shop, the heart of the business she helped build is still the same. It is all about family, flavor, and fantastic service. I'll also say this. In a time when others have tried to imitate what this family built, this original spot continues to shine. Their integrity, quality, and kindness speak louder than anything else ever could. Pro tip: Preorder if you can. They get busy because they're just that good. Support real local businesses. Support real people. And most of all, treat yourself to one of the best meals you'll have in the Valley.

Staying in Chandler and looking for a good sandwich spot. Being from Pennsylvania.... had to check out Philly's. Oh my.... we were welcomed by what presume was the owner. The gentleman was so nice! We each got the original ( one small one large). Of course Wise chips and drinks. Observing how they treat everyone... it was so wonderful to see this small business have such a great following . The cheesesteaks were incredible!! I honestly would come to Chandler just for these!! Go support this amazing family!

Cheesesteak fries and rings

THE BEST cheesesteak in Arizona. The only other thing you need to know is the owner is an incredible person who is the happiest restaurant owner I've seen in decades. My second visit is many more to go. This is where you want to be.

Excited to try because the raving reviews! And I was craving steak, Staff was nice! even recommended a medium drink for meal price. They welcome you as soon as you walk in. I want to come back and try one of the hoagies! They have lots of options : to try!

Ranch

Good ranch. The ranch at Philly's Famous in Chandler is straight up outrageous. Bringing the gritty Broad Street energy to AZ, this house-made jawn is the real MVP. It's thicker than a South Philly accent. Break some rules, dunk your cheesesteak, douse your fries and if you have to lick the wrapper.

Turkey Hoagie

This place did not disappoint! We got greeted right away and ordered a turkey hoagie and an original Philly cheesesteak with a side of fries. The hoagie was great, and the meat was very delicious. The cheesesteak was where it was at though, such great taste and the bread was so soft. The fries were yummy too. We enjoyed this spot as the service was quick and there were seating options with a decor that gave a homie feel

Ask for the Philly sauce. Fantastic

Best Philly cheesesteak in Arizona hands down. And not only was the food delicious, but the family friendly staff are incredible and make the visit for lunch or dinner worth it. Truly a family owned restaurant that cares about customers.

Originally planned to check out a different sub place but they were closed due to a family emergency so Yelped and found this was the closest sub shop. You can feel the small family owned vibe as soon as you walk in. They're obviously famous for their Philly cheese steaks so ordered the 12 inch at the counter. Once your order is ready they'll call your name. I thought it was pretty tasty but I could not taste their famous red sauce at all. Meat was flavored well but definitely skimpy. The ends, about a third of the sandwich, was lacking meat. They could fill it up and add more onion. There's a 3.5% surcharge for using a credit card which is kind of a pet peeve of mine. They should at least have a sign to give the customers an option.

The tuna hoagie! Not to be missed!

One of the best bites I've had this summer is the Tuna Hoagie at Philly's Famous. Tuna Salad and cheese topped with lettuce, tomato and onion with oil, vinegar and spices. After having it on Tuesday, I thought it was the best sandwich I've ever eaten. I went back Thursday and know it's the best sandwich I've ever eaten. They also serve numerous cheesesteaks and hoagies which are great. The customer service where the family makes you feel like family is next level wonderful. I highly recommend Philly's Famous for the food and the customer service. Both are the best!

Did your prices go up? I ordered an 8" and a 12" turkey sub--10.49 and 13.49 on the website. Tiny bag of chips. I got a receipt of 32.03. It does not add up.

They sure did! my order didnt add up either. Seemed like the kid at the register was just pushing buttons not really knowing what to do

We had bacon dates to start. These were tasty but not quite like we imagined. They were sweet and salty which was great. The blue cheese stuffing didn't quite jump out like we expected. For wine, my wife likes sweet wine. She tried the Riesling first, then the Moscato. Moscato was hands down her winner, it was sweeter. For me, I tried the Murphy Goode red blend and I enjoyed it a lot. Good balance, complexity, and smoothness. For the main course my wife had the Pasta Bolognese. It came with rigatoni noodles. The sauce was nice and thick and coated the noodles really well. It had a big robust flavor but wasn't overpowering. I had the Chicken Saltimbocca. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side for my preference due to what tasted like a bit of balsamic, but I still enjoyed it. The chicken was well cooked and tender. We tried a cannoli for dessert. The thing was huge! Shell was thick and crunchy. Filling was moderately sweet with a subtle brightness to it (like a touch of lemon). Ends were dipped in chopped pistachio.

The service was excellent, and we had the pleasure of meeting the Ashley Cook, General Manager and the owner. They made us feel genuinely welcome. We only had sips this time around as our other friend wanted to meet up for cocktails too but I couldn't change our reservations so we had to leave shortly after. I had their Hera (Bayab Rose | Elicser | Grapefruit | Lime | Orgeat | Egg White | Rose Water), $17: It was a delightfully balanced drink with a perfect egg white froth on top. Great sips. Coming back, I was reminded why the first time coming here left me with a great impression. It's still a cozy spot though so I wouldn't recommend coming here with a large party.

I ordered the Downtowner Burger because the guacamole and chipotle ranch toppings drew my attention more than anything. Instead of fries, I went with a house salad. It was a busy weekday lunch window, but it felt like our group of 4 kept getting overlooked... I was looking for our server, trying to get iced tea or drink refills, and when we placed our order, all the fries with everyone's orders seemed light and were not hot. When my burger came out, I asked about my salad, and that didn't show up until I finished my burger... again we felt forgotten for all the little things that go a long way. The guac for my burger was bland and I could barely taste the chipotle ranch. For $20, the burger & salads didn't hit as expected. Everyone else had fries, and they felt like 1 order was split amongst all 3. Disappointing experience with the food and service, but it was an ideal location/setting to meet up with friends to catch up. We tried to get in a round of drinks, but service was slow, and we ended up leaving for another spot just for drinks. Given the group of fellas, I'll return to meet up with them here. I will just hope for a better food and service experience than the one we got.
