My relationship with Chom has come a long way. Every time I visit, the quality and my experience gets better. Fair warning, if you're looking for cheap, go to In-n-out, or even McDonald's if you're gonna gripe about the price. This place is not meant to be a fast food value menu type place. They source local ingredients and make flavor combinations meant to be on the gourmet burger spectrum. My absolute favorite thing about Chom is that they get their buns from Shirley's. It sets their burgers apart so much that it keeps me coming back. I love love love their breakfast sandwiches, Green Chile Avocado burger, and sweet potato fries. Others on the menu are kind of hit or miss for me. I'm not too big of a fan of their BBQ burger, but I got it in a lettuce wrap (WHY SKIP THE BUN) so I might've set it up for failure. I didn't love their cookies n cream shake, but I liked their Chocolate Peanut Butter shake (real peanut chunks if you're into that kind of thing). But the best way to go is to get an Chocolate Oreo shake, I will never choose another flavor here, this is the best. Service is pretty quick and friendly. The atmosphere is nice. Fast food style without compromising on the quality. A Shake Shack vibe for the east coasters. So, if you are vegan or allergic to milk, don't come here. They had a vegan burger on the menu online AND in person, but if you ask about the bun you'll find out the bun has milk. I came here on my birthday BECAUSE I saw there was a vegan option. I'm not even vegan, just extremely allergic to milk, so I was counting on a bun I could actually eat since they had a vegan burger. On the menu it literally says under the vegan option "toasted bun." I was annoyed my sister even asked the staff if the buns had milk because surely, I thought, they wouldn't advertise a bun vegans can eat. I stood corrected. Thank God she asked, or I would be been in big trouble. One might think "oh, one of the employees thought they didn't have a vegan bun but they actually did" but no, we asked the chef in addition to the cashier, who both confirmed the buns have milk. Guys, you can't say you have vegan buns unless the buns are actually vegan! Some people are eating vegan for a reason, and to advertise explicitly buns you know aren't vegan is at best deceitful and at worst hazardous. I hope the two employees made a mistake and that you actually do have vegan buns, because otherwise it is a massive dick move. This restaurant is one of my favorites in Provo! The menu is pretty small, but I honestly love that because I feel like they have perfected everything on it. Every burger I've tried has been some of the best burgers I've had here in Utah. And they have gluten free buns which is definitely a bonus for all us GF peeps! I have been in town a few days now and decided I didn't want the normal so tonight I came here for dinner based on the reviews. Ordered the green chili avocado burger with 50/50 fries. The fries were hot like they had just been cooked, nothing sitting under a warmer there. The taste of them was spot on but what I really like is you can order half regular and half sweet potato fries, hence the 50/50 fries. I wish more places did that. The burger was amazing. Good flavor with a lot of guacamole on it and green chilies. Cooked medium and served on a ciabatta roll that was buttery soft. Some times ciabatta rolls can be rock hard, not this one. So overall this was a great choice for dinner and next time I'm in the area or even driving through I'll make sure to stop back by. read more

I had very high hopes for CHOM burger, as the creator of it also created one of my most favorite restaurants, communal, but alas, I was sorely disappointed. I consider myself someone a burger aficionado; burgers should be their own food group for me. So whenever I try I new burger place I get nothing fancy - just a straight up cheese burger with lettuce , tomatoes, and pickles. FIRST OF ALL their pickles are the equivalent to a McDonald's pickle . Go with kosher dill. They would make your burger sooo much better. My protein was cooked a good medium rare the way it should be, however, under-seasoned. And instead of a nice leaf of lettuce I got the STUMP. You know, the middle section of the head of lettuce that no one eats because it's bigger and not tasty. Yep. The stump. So I had to removed and pick the parts that were good to eat. The bun was awesome. Really enjoyed the potato bun. My husband got the green chile avocado burger. And while my protein was under-seasoned but cooked well, his was soooooo salty he couldn't even finish his burger. Fries. Mediocre. Ranch. Awesome. Shake, delicious. But I'll still pick in&out burgers over this place for price and taste any day. I'll tell you what though, this place totally matches the same sort of environment and style the the two aforementioned restaurants have. I am not going to lie, those are the parts that I like most about all 3 places, it always feels really cool to be there. The restaurant aesthetic is on point. Let me just say that there is nothing bad about this place. Everything is either average, good or great. Burgers were good. Thin patties, but delicious buns and great toppings. The green chili burger with avocado was a nice flavor compliment with a hint of spice. The bbq burger tasted like bbq sauce and bacon. I have seen people complain about this on here but... i love both of those things. On my second visit I got the pastrami burger substituted onions for mushrooms because... mushrooms are disgusting. The bun once again was the star. Pastrami was average, burger thing, cheese delicious, it could have just use maybe one more special sauce or something and it would have really upped the flavor. Still liked it.$7. Fries were great and average. The sweet potato fries really struck the harmonizing chord between sweet and savory and went super well with the fry sauce. The normal fries were... normal. Although I have grown to realize that most french fries are just an excuse to eat condiments like ketchup. So I do not put a lot of stock into regular fries anymore. That is how you explain the pricing, and it fills you up with about half a burger and half the fries, unless... once again, you have an eating problem. $10 for most burgers and fries combos. If you want a shake you are looking at maybe 14$ for the meal. So... go try it you might like it. And if you don't at least you know you will feel cool sitting in a V cool establishment. An evening run brought me to this hidden gem. Hidden away from the busy cross streets of University and Center you can pop in and enjoy what I think is one of the best burgers in Provo. I came in with no foreknowledge of what the menu looked like. I didn't know if I would get quasi-tapas that is popular in Provo or if I would get a tired dish that I might find on other side street locations. The location is pretty easy to find, it is across the street from Sodalicious which is a pretty popular landmark. It is also pretty hard to miss due to the huge lit (lighted?) sign on the top of the building. The branding continues, though subtly, throughout with bits of orange accent all around (including the straws which I loved) it is a pretty low key spot though all around for decor and ambiance. I got the BBQ Bacon Cheese burger, fries, and a drink. I feel like it is pretty hard to mess this up so I typically use this combination as my go to for an initial visit to a restaurant. The staff was friendly, explaining the different menu options and even taking the chance to get to know me a bit. My food came quickly and oh, was it good! The fries were salted perfectly and the burger, while covered in fried onions (which I don't love), was a surprising size. I quickly devoured the fries and then moved on to the burger that featured their house made "CHOM sauce". The bacon burger had plenty of bacon and an ample amount of cheese. I've been wanting to try Chom Burger since September, and tonight we made it happen. Even before walking in, it looked hip. The shadow box lights that read "CHOM" are intrigue and inviting. The restaurant's interior is simple: concrete, light wood, galvanized metals, oh yeah, AND a full wall chalkboard mural of Star Wars scenes (which my guy nerded out over). The menu is very simple, which I think is a good thing. You order your meal on a sheet of paper, marking what you want and noting any extras, upgrades and combo options. They've got a few different burgers, a couple salads and maybe five shake options. We ordered the Chom Burger (I added cheddar), the Green Chili Burger (husband added a second patty), we got both sweet potato and regular fries, then topped it all off with a Pumpkin Biscoff Shake. My burger was PERFECT. The potato roll (made by Shirley's) was absolutely delicious. The patty was medium/medium rare, juicy and flavorful. It was a no fuss, classic burger that I WILL be getting again, soon. I had a bite of my husband's burger and I was crazy about it as well. The only thing I might omit was the guacamole. Just a tad too much for my liking. But the jalapeño/chili combo was a good addition to the burger. The sweet potato fries are way better than the regular fries, in my (and my husband's) opinion. They're good! I wish they were cut a little thicker. But they have a good crunch and they come with fry sauce, which as a native Utahn, I appreciate. The winner though, oh man, the absolute winner was the Pumpkin Biscoff Shake. It wasn't overly sweet. It had a nice warm, seasonal flavor. And chunks of Biscoff cookie that traveled easily through their extra wide straws. The shake was five stars, easy! We both said we'd come back just to get shakes. The few things I think they could improve on: Firstly, cleanliness. I get that on a Saturday night, the place is busier than normal and I get that customers make a mess, but there were fries, napkins, straw wrappers all over the floors and counters. I had to wipe off our own table with a napkin before we ate. The place is new enough that it didn't feel dirty necessarily, just messy. I love going to places that have staff members consistently making rounds to clear tables, wipe them off, sweep up floors. On that note I love going to places that have hospitable and involved staff. Just last night we went to a place (similar in price point) that had a staff member walking around, asking how we liked our food, asking if she could fill drinks or clear anything. Heck, even Chick-fil-A gets this! It pays to have someone involved and extremely hospitable. It ups the ante. I always remember and return to places like that. The last thing is the fries. My preference is a thicker (only slightly) fry. But if they don't want to do that, season them differently. Offer different dipping sauces. Change SOMETHING that would change the fries from basic, to noteworthy. There was no surprise with the fries. We'll be back again, soon! read more

I've been a couple times now hoping the first experience was a fluke. The fries were either overcooked or cold, and extremely salty. A potato roll is not a good bun, it either compresses into nothing or it falls apart due to wet toppings and meat. The meat is also over salted like the fries, and dry and chewy. So, Chom lands on the scene, and stirs up controversy in the Provo burger world! Some absolutely HATE this place for the same reasons the rest of us LOVE it. Tasty burgers, sandies, fries (even SPF!), salads, and shakes, made for deliciousness. Smallish menu, but tight. The burger options appear relatively standard on paper, but in your mouth they're actually anything but. There is a standard-sounding chicken sandwich as well - fantastic. In fact, I've had the chicken patty on a few of the burger combos and loved every bite. The Green Chili Avocado is my personal favorite...either with a beef or chicken patty. I'm a bun girl, and wow do these sandies pack themselves into some delicious buns! Shirley's makes them; if you know what that means, you'll try Chom for that reason alone. Their salads (just 2 on the menu) are very fresh, and loaded with tons of greens, veggies, legumes, meat, and all manner of mostly anything else you can dream of on a salad. I've had both, and would order either of them again. I add chicken to the chop salad...because their chicken is really wonderful. Shakes come in mostly standard flavors; chocolate, vanilla, Oreo, salted caramel...wait, what? Yes, salted caramel is a standard flavor for Chom, as is Chocolate Peanut Butter. Uh-huh. And, they offer a seasonal shake - right now it's Fresh Peach. Serrrrrrrrrrriously good. The regular fries are really good. The sweet potato fries are just okay - not my favorite. They're coated in something that I wasn't able to identify. I am a very picky SPF eater, and I'll stick with the regular fries here. Service was top-notch - I always ask a million questions about the food, and no one has ever hesitated to answer freely and candidly. Food is counter-ordered, and you are issued a number. It works. There's a condiment station, and a drink station where you can spend your time until your number is called. They're pretty fast. Parking is...close enough to downtown Provo that there kind of is none. And it's located across from one of Provo's soda spots, so good luck even getting close by at certain times of the day. I don't really care because I could walk there from my office. I don't know what the heck-fire Chom means - I assume the sign co. screwed up, left off the P, and it was too late to change it. After a year I finally made it to Provo to taste what my family has been raving about. Amazingly Chom exceeded expectations. I got the green chili avocado burger. It was outstanding. Chilis were fireroasted. Fries were crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Perfectly salted. They obviously double-fry them like any good chef would do. Shakes...got a grasshopper one. Best shake I've had. Ice cream is top quality and mixins were perfectly portioned. It's more expensive than in-n-out or other "fast food" burger places but this is WAY better. You get what you pay for. Only comparable is Bobby Flay's burger palace in Vegas. This is easily top 2 burger joints on my list, along with Flay. read more

Gave Chom a try for the first time last night. You really can't miss it after dark; the brightness of the huge sign outside is almost a public hazard. Unfortunately, it also hypes up the excitement of the place to an undue degree. I think I went into Chom expecting something different from the other local offerings. Don't get me wrong, it was good food, and if I didn't already have the options of Five Guys, Smashburger, and Mooyah within a few minutes, I'd consider it a happy new addition to the Provo scene. But it was just so much of the same. Here are the pros: the buns are soft and homemade, the guac was flavorful, and the fries are my exact favorite kind - thin, crispy, and not too potato-y. Local, quality ingredients. The service was fast and friendly, they have both Coke and Pepsi products, and the fry sauce is a-flowin'. The prices are pretty standard. The patty itself, however, was crazy thin, and I could barely taste the meat under the weight of all the other toppings. (Lettuce should be forbidden as a burger condiment). There were also a surprisingly few options for burger toppings in general. I feel like you gotta do one of two things in a burger restaurant: either have a big menu with a lot of different flavor combinations, or leave it completely open-ended in a build-your-own style. Chom currently rides a kind of disappointing middle ground of 3-4 options and then a chicken sandwich or two. I'm hoping they expand the menu later. If you add fries and a drink or shake to your sandwich, the total will run you about $9-13 per person. Ultimately, I can get homemade buns and more options at Mooyah and wayyyy better (more juicy, meaty) meat at Five Guys. I wish Chom luck. Chom has a good start and great potential. Our son had a burger, fries, and milkshake, which he loved (and he's picky about all three). Walking up, the outside sign is cool (maybe a bit too bright) and sets a good vibe for the whole experience. The staff was friendly and helpful and we loved the mural on the wall and cleanly designed decor. Now we were in a burger joint (that also states salads) so i will not judge too heavily that the salads were simply standard. They were fresh, clean, and tasted fine, but nothing special. Some want a healthy option that is not the same as every other place; an option that puts the eatery's own unique spin on a standard/classic. Burgers are a little on the small side, similar to in-n-out. Burgers are made with fresh ingredients, bun was super soft. But there was not a lot of flavor to the burgers. I gave this place three stars from my first experience, but after a few more goes I have changed my mind. The burgers are very good, and that's what matters most to me. The ingredients are all very good individually. The buns are fresh potato buns, the toppings are fresh, and most importantly the meat is seasoned pretty perfectly. A fantastic addition to the local restaurants of Provo; Chom Burger is a trendy place with amazing food. When I went, the decor consisted of epic Star Wars art drawn on the wall in chalk. Definitely won my heart from the get-go. They serve breakfast (mostly sandwiches of bacon/sausage, egg, cheese and such) from 8-11am. POSITIVES: I am probably one of the few that actually like the ordering system they have (check the boxes on a slip of paper, and they hand you a wireless pager for when your order is ready), creates less confusion for both customer/cooks. The thin fries are amazing! And the fry sauce is equally great. The burgers were also tasty, and very flavorful (we ordered the Green Chile Avocado burger and BBQ Bacon Cheese). The shakes are always a good option. NEGATIVES: It was tough finding parking, had to go to the apartment complex across the street. The wooden chairs were a little uncomfortable. Table was wobbly. Price is decent, but a little more on the expensive side - but for the quality, I'm okay with that. :) The chicken sandwich was a little disappointing. Stick with the burgers, and you're good. Average. Very average. Blue Bacon Burger: 3 stars. It has bleu cheese and is has bacon. But those are the best aspects of the burger. The patty was cooked beyond well-done and had no taste aside from char, and the bacon was also overdone. It basically just tasted like bleu cheese and that's it. Sweet Potato Fries: 4 stars. Nice and thin so they have a nice, crisp mouthfeel to them. Could use more seasoning, but still pretty good. Grasshopper shake: 1.5 stars. CHOM might have good food but their customer service is significantly lacking . It was so bad I would give zero stars if i could! We placed an online order and arrived 15 minutes before the time it was supposed to be ready. 15 minutes after the time our order was supposed to be ready we were told our food hadn't even been started. We asked for a refund and the manager wouldn't come talk to us but told another employee he'd refund us later tonight. We requested to speak to him and when he came over was extremely rude, full of excuses and said he had no control over the website orders. We left with him saying he wouldn't refund us until later tonight. I guess we'll see if we get our money back. The garlic burger has a fried egg on it that completely drowns out any sort of garlic flavor - should be renamed something along the lines of breakfast. The fries were fresh & crispy, but very very salty. At the beginning of the meal we were considering that we might go back if our friends wanted to go or something, but by the end we had changed our minds. No recommendations here. read more
