Changing a timing belt on a 2004 Honda Civic is no easy task. Choice Auto did a fabulous job. They took the time to explain the job in fine detail. Treated my wife and I with the utmost of kindness and respect. And boy are they knowledgeable. They even gave me a loaner car which I vey much needed to get to work with while they worked on the car. The turn around time was great. The bill was reasonable. And the most detailed bill I ever received. I knew exactly what they did item by item which made me feel good about the work that was done. I am a very careful person when it comes to hiring professionals. I took a lot of time researching who would be the best in the area. Court at Auto Repai really saved the day and our kids' Christmas. Drove to Raleigh for a Canes game in route to Charlotte. While in Raleigh our brakes began grinding and making an awful sound. Court told us to drop it off at 5:00 so he could get to it first thing in the morning while we enjoued the game. He had us fixed and on the road to Charlotte by 10am!!! BEWARE of gouging prices and false diagnostics. My daughter, a young woman in her 20s recently took her car in to choice auto on nowell road for a routine inspection and oil change. That was fine, HOWEVER.... they hit her with a long list of recommendations for repair in the tune of $3624. They scared her into believing that she would lose control of her car if she drove it put of the parking lot. The list included a power steering pump for $970, steering service $224, Front brake service $447, Cabin Air Filter $105, BG Brake service $137, Engine Air Filter $52, Stabilizer Bar Bushings $328, BG transmission Service $273, Sparkman Plugs $920, AC system repair $168 and that may require additional repairs. This quote was outlandish! First off, the spark plugs were changed less than 30k miles ago. You can see the brake pads from a distance, they are NOT worn, anyone with common sense can change an air filter for less than $50 for each, and that power steering.... the fluid level was full, it needs to be changed but it wasn't leaking bad, definitely not an urgent matter. She may have looked like a naive young woman, but she was on a solar car team in college and has worked on and studied mechanics. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with the air conditioniner. It blows perfectly cold air. Her uncle who lives locally, looked over the car to make sure it was SAFE to drive. She has since driven it 5 hours across the state, for her dad to evaluate the long list of things that Choice Auto Repair claims to be wrong with the car. We don't appreciate them trying to up sale their services that are not truly needed. Consider this before choosing them for your auto services. read more

Trustworthy and professional are the two words that most describe this shop. Alton walks you through the process of what is planned and what has been completed. The folks here are incredibly helpful and friendly. Because I travel often, my car can be anywhere in the continental United States at any time. If I have a repair that needs to be done, I would wait until I go back home to Raleigh so I can take my car to this shop. Lastly, there are chocolates, tea and coffee at the front desk and that is awesome. Update: After a year sitting in long term parking and having extensive repairs to ensure operability of my car for the next 5 years or so here, it turns out the water pump failed which prevented fluid into going into the system. Subsequently, the freeze frame temperature was at 284ºF. The head gaskets failed as a result since the exhaust gases were leaking into the coolant system. The water pump wasn't checked after I had mentioned the car was in long-term parking (storage). It's my fault for not mentioning the pump but this resulted in loss of the engine or as a trusted mechanic in Denver called it, "cooked". I still like this shop but after spending quite a bit on repairs and such, it's hard for me to justify a great review after all that money went down the drain for a water pump that should have been looked at. Losing my engine has been rather inconvenient. read more

Choice Auto contacted me regarding my review, and notified me that they disagree with the statement. Allow me to elaborate... My vehicle showed an "overheat" light approximately two weeks ago. New to the area, I drove the vehicle to Choice Auto Repair due to the positive reviews that they had received. I was told that the goal of their business is to "keep a vehicle safely on the road as long as possible." It was kept in their care for repair, and I paid a few hundred dollars for it. Unfortunately, driving the vehicle home about two miles caused it to overheat again. I drove it back to the shop and left it - and the water pump was diagnosed as the additional problem. The vehicle was in the care of Choice Auto for about another week, at cost of more than $400. I was told that they had driven it over 100 miles to check it, with no problems. I was also dismissively told, "good luck," on the second time I picked up the vehicle. While the odometer had additional miles on it, I can't imagine how they had no problems considering what happened next. Two days later, the overheat light came on an additional time. When a call was placed to inquire, again, dismissively, was told that Choice Auto had "done all they can do." If all they can do is diagnose problems and allow you, the consumer, to pour copious amounts of money into their parts and labor, then I completely stand by my statement that this business is truly a rip off to you. As for their "keep a vehicle safely on the road as long as possible," nothing could be further from the truth - as long as you safely drive it to them to pay them more of your hard earned money to diagnose problems that may or may not have existed before your vehicle was given their tender loving care. AMAZING. I'm a young woman with an unfortunate track record with cars, and these folks are the greatest I've ever dealt with. SO kind, but more importantly, they took the time to explain to me exactly what went wrong, and helped me make an informed decision. I never felt stupid or a burden. They even lent me an X-Terra to use while they repaired my car. My father and sister have since started bringing their vehicles to them as well. Our 1997 Escort started running rough with low power on 9/14/16. The CEL came on and the code indicated a misfire in Cylinder One. Because the car needed repair at an inopportune time, we took it to Choice Auto Repair rather than repair it ourselves. Instead of diagnosing the actual problem in Cylinder One, Choice simply replaced all the spark plugs and spark plug wires, which did not solve the problem (because there was nothing wrong with the old plugs and wires). For that they charged an exorbitant $400. They did not return the old plugs and wires. Next, they recommended replacing a fuel injector (for $200) which also was not the problem (nor was there any reason to suspect a fuel problem when Cylinder One was still not getting a spark). We decided to take the car back from Choice and fix it ourselves. We quickly determined the reason there was no spark in Cylinder One was because of a bad coil (which is easy to diagnose with hand tools; a fully-equipped shop like Choice could have immediately diagnosed a bad coil). We made the repair ourselves. A $70 retail part, in stock everywhere. Installs in 15 minutes. No special tools. We emailed Choice about what happened, and they ignored us. Two weeks later we called and Choice insisted they took the correct steps. They actually stuck to their story that, when a new spark plug isn't firing, the next step is to install a new fuel injector. They know better. Choice Auto Repair is a dishonest shop. read more

One star is one too many. My daughter brought her car in because her temperature gauge indicated she was overheating. She was told that it needed a temperature sensor. Since she had it there, I told her to have an exhaust gasket put in, that was missing. I noticed it, when looking over her car before she left for school. After having her car for almost a week, they said it wasn't fixed yet and that it was going to be more money. Alteady at $600!!! After talking to someone who said he was the owner, I was reassured that there would be no further charge, but they wanted to check a ground wire. Yesterday she went to pick up the car and the bill was $978! Instead of putting the exhaust gasket on,they replaced a converter with a piece of straight pipe.( Is that even legal?) And charged her$ 261 for that! Taking advantage of a distraught, naive girl. Plain and simple. read more

Each time my vehicle has been serviced, subsequently, it has superbly operated. Recently and prior to a venture to Decatur, GA., I brought the auto in for a check-up. Issues were found and although some difficulties existed with repair, as Big Al said, "...we will do it the right way...." They did it the right way: and what might have ended in higher costs for me ended pleasantly. Soon, I leave the Raleigh locality to live in Decatur, GA. and I would greatly miss Big Al and Donna. I took my car to Choice Auto to get an inspection. My car failed the inspection and I received an estimate in over $5,000 in repairs that my car "needed". I took my car to get a second opinion, and not only did my car pass that inspection - but most of their recommendations weren't even things my car had to be replaced. I am guessing because I am a woman they thought I was an idiot and could take advantage of me. Who knows how many other women have been here and had the same thing happen. I used to think, like everyone else, that this place was great. The guy in the front counter is cool and they seemed competent. A few weeks ago I took my wife's car in because the power steering just stopped working. I usually fix these things myself but I live in an apartment complex now which makes things complicated. Thinking it probably just needed a belt and a power steering fluid flush, I dropped the car off at Choice Auto Repair. I wasn't 100% sure on what the issue was, but I was fairly certain it could be an easy fix. The guy calls me back later that day saying they tested the problem with Power Steering pump was it had a stuck valve, hence they needed to change it, for a cost of around $650. I politely told them thanks for the diagnosis, I will gladly pay for whatever that costs, and do the labor myself (since a new pump runs about $100). I went in to get my car and paid the 50 or so dollars for the diagnosis. After getting a new pump, new fluid, and a belt, I got under the car to start the process of removing the pump. Immediately I noticed the belt was very lose. I tightened the belt, started the car, and VOILA! The power steering works! Clearly they hadn't even looked at my car. I am not certain if this was an attempt to commit fraud, or if these people are just incompetent, but I suspect it's the former. Now, I know car shops get a bad rap, but I went to this place based on its online reputation. Hopefully I can steer people in the right direction, which should be away from this place. read more

This repair shop is my hidden Gem! As I am sure most of you know, luxury cars are very expensive to repair. This shop works exclusively on Infiniti's and Nissan's. I had a headlight bulb that needed to be replaced and the quotes around Raleigh were $250+ (labor fees). Ridiculous!!!This shop did the job for 80 bucks. I could not have been more greatful. It's not a very fancy auto repair place, but they get the job done without robbing you blind. read more

Took my car in for an oil change and they gave me a list of things that needed to be repaired. My brake pads were at 3mm and I was told they needed to be replaced along with lots of other items. I like supporting small business owners but not when they over charge and lie. I finally decided (3 months later) to check around on prices and decided to take it to another shop in Cary. after an hour of waiting for my brake pads to be replaced I got a phone call saying that My brake pads were fine (4mm in the front and 5 in the back) and they don't need to be replaced right now. The issue with my brakes was the fluid and it needed to be flushed but that was never mentioned by choice auto repair. If you want to overpay and do repairs that aren't needed then take your car to choice auto. read more
