I can only speak to my experience; however this is reminiscent of a 50s diner. The service was on par, I enjoyed the food , and the atmosphere of the environment. Parking is very limited so you will either have to park across the street at the plaza parking lot or find street parking if nothing is available on property. The people who work here are very friendly and accommodating. It is a busy diner so wait times can be a bit high, but that's why you get with a popular location. This was a nice little discovery! We're here fun out of town and discovered Chip's on ancient. Food is all Barbara was the most cheerful, efficient and fun server! She was very attentive, speedy and accurate. Luis was constantly filling our drinks, taking away used dishes, and made sure we had everything we needed. The portions were huge, the prices fair, and we left very satisfied. The only negative for us was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy isn't traditional sausage -- it was a chorizo base. New breakfast spot on my off days. Can't get here early enough from the Westside. It's been on my list. Breakfast was fit for a big guy. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the gave me 3 with eggs being so high right now. Bacon was crispy but not over cooked. Grits gave me life unlimited like who has grits anymore? They were not too thick yet not runny. Pancakes were huge and delicious. I was able to make them nice and buttery. Shoutout to the waitress Barbara. Kept my drink full and checked on me every 5 to 20 minutes. Good food, repeat customers seemed pleased, kitchen staff had it together like Chef Ramsey. Classic diner with really good diner food. I got the veggie burger which was better than a lot I've had and the fries and onion rings were also really good. I really want this place to survive so I do have a few suggestions I hope they take. 1) get a dairy milk alternative (preferably oat), I feel like 2024 in LA it's just a requirement 2) there was a weird smell on the right side of the restaurant with the beautiful windows, maybe it was temporary but we had to move, would be good to address it 3) one other veggie option would be nice; wouldn't have to be anything crazy, just do a nice veggie sandwich (some tomato/sprouts/cheddar/cucumber/mayonnaise/etc) read more

Amazing food and service! We went to church across the street and came to Chips for breakfast. The healthy turkey omelet and French toast were great. The staff were friendly and the service was fast; we didn't wait more than 10 minutes for food even though the restaurant was full! I will definitely be coming back and recommend it 10/10. read more

Been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years and it seems like when you walk in, nothing has changed. Their decor is 50's themed and honestly makes me feel nostalgic, not because of the era but more because places like these are fading away. Got the Tuna Melt sandwich with half fries half onion rings and washed it down with a sprite. It's a cute little diner on the corner with old school seats and decor. The place is a little bit old but still cute and well kept. The tuna melt sandwich was tasty, could you use a little bit of salt & tasted good with Tapatio hot sauce. The lady was very friendly. I LOVE THE VIBE OF THIS PLACE -- Old Fashioned. The customer service was real good too. When we walked in, we were greeted & told to sit wherever. The waiter answered the questions we had about the menu & then recommended a few things to us. We ended up getting the 2 things that he recommended -- The International Omelette & The Three Stooges. My fiance said the bacon was cooked perfectly unlike the bacon he had at Denny's. My daughter loved the Belgian waffle & ate the whole thing. My other daughter had the kids breakfast meal & she ate everything -- eggs, bacon, pancakes. I had the omelette & it was interesting how they put the regular square cheese on top of the finished omelette instead of putting shredded cheese on the inside. There was definitely a lot of meat in that omelette. However, I couldn't finish the hash browns because it did taste a little off for me, idk if it was because it was too oily. Also, when the other waitress gave our food, we were just sitting there waiting because there weren't enough forks so we had to ask for more when she came by but I like how she apologized. Another thing I liked is how we didn't have to wait for our check & how she dropped the check off to us when she saw we were almost finished & said "no rush. whenever you're ready." It made our time there go by smoothly because when having small children, you know how they get when they're done eating & just want to play around so you want to get out of there asap lol. read more

Had the Country Fried Chicken, came with split pea soup, mashed potatoes and gravy with veggies. Less expensive than other diner's in the area but just as good with much better service. A little bit more expensive than IHOP or Denny's but much better quality. Tried the meat loaf on a second trip and it was really just a mess, very little taste and pretty much just a bunch of ground beef covered with gravy. Our hotel recommended this place. It's an American diner, with some mild Mexican dishes. The staff is fabulous. Very friendly and attentive. I had huevos rancheros and the eggs were not to my liking. No issue they took them back and made them perfect. I got a side of the very thick cut bacon too. My husband had the Three Stooges breakfast, pancakes, eggs and bacon. He liked it a lot. I was excited to visit Chips mostly for the atmosphere. I wanted a chill place to do some writing while enjoying some coffee and breakfast. My experience started off well, I was greeted promptly and told I could sit wherever I pleased. I was immediately brought a menu and offered a drink. I received my coffee soon after and I noticed that my cup had dry coffee stains on one side. I didn't want to make a fuss so I just sipped from the other side. However, when I unwrapped my silverware I noticed that my knife was stained and had something crusty on it. When the waitress took my order, I started off by ordering the 2 egg combo but she told me it didn't come with meat or potatoes so I told her I would have the 50s combo instead and I pointed at the menu. She told me it would cost more and I told her that was okay. When my food came out, I received hashbrowns but no meat. I figured it was a misunderstanding so I didn't say anything. The eggs and hashbrowns needed a lot of extra salt. When I asked for the check, I just handed the guy my card and that was where I screwed my self over. When I was brought the receipt for the transaction I realized that I was overcharged by at least $2, which isn't much but it feels like a lot after my experience. read more

Fantastic service and impressive food. The Chocolate Chip Waffle was light, crispy, and full of milk chocolate. Bacon was perfectly cooked and a hearty portion. Iced Tea was on the strong side, which I prefer anyway. Server was polite, quick, and friendly. Made for a great dining experience. I was super surprised to see that this place wasn't listed in Yelp. I've been going there for years and the place is an institution. When I go for breakfast, they have a special with a hot link that I love. I get the grits. They are awesome. They are perfectly cooked and you'll be offered a small glass of milk and plenty of butter. My niece and I went the other night. I was shocked that they were even open for dinner. (They are open until 8, I asked.) She got a child's plate 2 eggs, 2 sausages and 2 pancakes for $3.50. How can you beat that? She chowed down and finished most everything. I wasn't too hungry, so I settled on the fish and chips. It was $7.95. There were 3 pieces of fish, on the smaller side. The fired part was kinda like tempura, but a little more chewy. The fish inside was firm and tasty. The fries were hot and fresh. It came with a side of vegetables (mostly cauliflower and carrots). The veggies needed a little something, garlic? salt? I still ate them, however. The dinner roll came with whipped butter. I saw a drink mixer, so I ordered us a couple milkshakes to go. My niece got strawberry and I think she sucked it down before she got to the car. Yeah, I think she liked it. I got the vanilla. I only took few pulls on it, as ice cream, milk and I don't always get along. I put it in the fridge and I"ve been hacking into it for a few days. On Sundays, the place is crazy, as people come over from the Catholic church across the street. The parking lot is small, so if there aren't spots, don't stop. Presentation was superb and food came out quick and fresher than expected. Taste? Not greasy at all; light; fresh! More than anticipated for such an older and lesser-advertised establishment. You don't leave with a funny feeling in your stomach; because the ingredients are real and the cooks actually put their hearts and souls into their work; which is not common anymore! I love this place. I go almost every Sunday for breakfast. I feel welcomed and Barbara is always there to greet me. This is a true 50's diner with pink booths and 50's music playing. They serve the usual diner fare like burgers and breakfast but they also have menudo. I'm not a fan of menudo but I see many people ordering it on Sunday with a beer. I guess it's a good hang over cure? Anyway, I love this place and highly recommend it for food and the vintage atmosphere. PS To the reviewers that say this is a "hole in the wall" or a"dive" have obviously never been to a dive or hole in the wall.
