Mi California is fabulous!!! First, the salsa presented with chips was soooo good. Not too spicy, a little salty to taste. I ordered a Lime Margarita and it was tasty tasty tasty - a little on the weak side, but perhaps that is why I wanted another - just tasty. For my entree, I ordered two fish tacos fried. DELICIOUS!!!!! The ambience is so inviting, so welcoming. I did not want to leave once settled in. A nice bar set up with two tv screens AND Karaoke beginning at 7pm. I've lived in the area all my life and I've seen this place, but never been. I heard they revamped it so went to check it. It was so good! The food was delicious - my group had the carnitas wet burrito, enchilada and chile relleno, and garlic shrimp.. all so delicious! Their drinks were on point. I had the piña pepino margarita.. so refreshing. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful with her recommendations. Apologies I didn't catch her name. They do have a jukebox and karaoke on the weekends. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because I heard they had no happy hour. Which is ashame because they have a bar area, the drinks were so good and they have TVs. In my quest to support small business owners I stumbled upon this spot in Hawthorne. The staff are very friendly. They have good margaritas. The prices are right. I mean really what more can you ask in these times of shrinkflation. We ordered the caldo de rez, quesadilla, and enchiladas and like 4 margaritas. Checked this place out on a quiet Wednesday evening. The place is spacious with a dining area and separated bar. Everything is super clean. First impression that everything is priced fairly, at about $17 per plate depending on Cadillac Margarita was delicious with the perfect kick. Beautiful presentation like something you'd see from a fine dining Mexican bar. My entree was a barbacoa taco (shredded beef) and chicken enchilada. The taco was crispy and the beef was tender. The enchilada wasn't as good as the taco but still solid. Tortillas seem house made. Light and fluffy. Super solid spot that I ended on coming back to often. 9.5/10 read more

My family enjoys this restaurant so I make it a point to stop in when I'm in town. I went here twice in a five day span. Their ceviche is excellent and the wait staff is super friendly. My only knock against them is the lack of nearby handicap parking. There's limited parking in front of the restaurant so it can be a walk. I had a long day and went to this restaurant with 1 of my girlfriends and I'm so glad we looked on Yelp for a new spot because this was just what was needed after my exhausting day! The food is mouth watering thinking about it while typing this review! I got the chicken fajitas which were probably the best I've ever had. My friend got the ceviche and carne asada and she said it was on point as well. The service was great! The waitress was so hard working despite all her tables and the blasting fun music (people singing kareoke were amazing.) the margaritas were so flavorful and strong. Place is pretty big and clean. Friendly service with a smile. The food was really good. I was pleasantly surprised. I had the carne en su jugo and it was delicious. I ordered steak fajitas and my wife ordered fish and shrimp tacos. When our orders were brought, I was looking forward to tasting the fajitas since the plate was sizzling with a good smell. Unfortunately in my opinion the steak was bland on overcooked, very chewy. The bell peppers were undercooked and lacked flavor and it came with only two tortillas instead of three or four like most places. I also didn't care much for the beans because they were also bland. My wife said that the shrimp tacos were very tasty but the fish taco was bland. We were there on a weekend around noon and the place was empty. We stopped by Mi California! for dinner today and the food did not disappoint! I had the camarones a la diabla--perfectly spicy and full of flavor. My wife ordered a mix of enchiladas verdes and rojas, and she loved every bite. My son had the carne en su jugo, which was incredibly tasty and brought back memories of my mom's home cooking. The bartender came out to help us with our to-go order and brought us not only chips and salsa but lemon water. There was karaoke (thankfully this group was entertaining) and we were happy to wait. The time it took meant it was being freshly prepared. We took home the Asada and Carnitas burritos and split them. The carnitas were a tiny bit dry but had fantastic flavor and so did the asada. I had asked for extra spicy carnitas and it was perfect for me. My bf struggled a bit lol. The salsa and chips were perfect and it all hit the spot. Already craving it again! read more

This place is excellent! It was surprisingly not busy on a Sunday afternoon. It started picking up a bit as we were leaving. We were in town for my oldest daughter's dance competition today and stopped here afterwards. We were greeted and seated immediately and very shortly thereafter we had complimentary chips and salsa delivered to our table. The chips were fresh and warm and the salsa was spicy and delicious! I ordered the taco plate with al pastor and it was wonderful! The al pastor had excellent flavor and the roja sauce was nice and spicy! The rice and beans hit the spot as well. My youngest got the birria tacos and she inhaled them saying they were delicious. My oldest got the beef taquitos plate and also loved them. Her boyfriend got the chicken enchiladas plate and said they were very good--the tomatillo sauce was a bit sweeter than he was expecting, but he enjoyed it. The place is clean and festive with music playing and it looks like they either have live music, a DJ and/or karaoke sometimes because I saw a sound booth and stage. I won't be coming back. This place used to be a hidden gem a few years ago, but something seems to have changed recently. I ordered two carne asada tacos and three chicken tacos last night, and they were all awful. The chicken tacos upset my husband's stomach so much that it was audibly gurgling. The carne asada tacos were just as bad--greasy, soggy, and strangely filled with hard chunks of meat that felt like chewing on cement. I had to spit out bites because they were so unpleasant. Thankfully, I didn't end up sick, but the experience was terrible. Whoever runs this place now should consider closing up shop. read more
