This theater was incredible! I will never be able to enjoy a regular commercial theater again after experiencing this vintage theater. The staff was friendly, helpful, and all wore outfits to match the movie (Superman). Their concession stand is very reasonably priced ($3 per item) with delicious popcorn. They create a welcoming atmosphere by explaining interesting facts about the movie and having the audience join in during a sing-along. Also, the live organ show was one of a kind! Any seat is a good one, as the theater is small and intimate. I purchased some merchandise to remember my experience and will be returning again. Great for a date night or family event. I would love to explore the walkable downtown area more too.

I discovered Old Town Music Hall through TikTok and thought it would be a fun, quirky date night--but it ended up being one of the most charming and memorable experiences I've had in a long time. The theatre itself is a beautifully preserved original 1920s movie house, and you feel the nostalgia the moment you walk up to the building. From the vintage marquee and checkerboard entryway to the warm glow inside, it feels like stepping into another era. Every corner is thoughtfully decorated, especially during the holidays--classic movie star portraits, cozy lights, and festive touches that feel timeless rather than overdone. My girlfriend and I went to see Christmas in Connecticut, and the experience was so much more than just watching a movie. Before the film, a live organist came out and played (on a stunning vintage organ), followed by a sing-along and a classic cartoon. Sitting there with popcorn and a soda while the curtain glowed and the organ filled the room honestly felt magical--something you just don't get at modern theatres anymore. What truly makes this place special is the people. Everyone working there is a volunteer, and they were incredibly sweet, welcoming, and eager to share stories about the theatre's history. You can feel how deeply loved and cared for this place is--it's not just maintained, it's cherished. Between the ornate ceiling, crystal chandeliers, holiday décor, and the sense of community in the room, the whole night felt cozy, joyful, and intentionally slow in the best way. We left smiling, a little nostalgic, and already excited to come back. If you're looking for a unique date night, a nostalgic escape, or a reminder of how special moviegoing can be, Old Town Music Hall is an absolute gem. Highly, highly recommend
This is now my favorite "new" theater in town. I love going to see classic cinema on the big screen, but the mighty Wurlitzer organ makes this location simply magical. Seeing a silent film with live accompaniment was an incredible experience. The theater itself is cozy and the organ takes center stage. It's mesmerizing to watch the chimes and you can feel the low notes from the pipes. There's not a bad seat in the house. They have a popcorn and drink special for $5 which is a great deal. The staff was super friendly and we loved the entire experience.
What a gem. Experienced for the first time "The Wizard of Oz" on a big screen (smaller than I expected, but still wonderful nonetheless!). Staff was very warm, welcoming, and knew everything about anything. Pop in a bottle w/ a box of popcorn (not too salty 'n very fresh) for $5 - what a deal! From the intro by Randy the organist, to his magical performance, to the short Judy Garland film, and to the culmination of the film - what a movie going experience it was! I even enjoyed the coming attractions! Don't miss the hand cranked movie by way of Disneyland in the lobby. Stirling (he's in the concession stand pic) even provides a brief history and a nickel to boot! Plenty of free parking adjacent. Online ticketing a breeze, too. I'll be back...
One of the most unique experiences you will have in Los Angeles. They have one of the last Wurlitzer pipe organs in the USA, right here, in a quaint, wonderfully restored, silent movie theater. The place is almost completely operated by volunteers and they just do a fantastic job featuring movie and history experts, showcasing different types of movies from different eras throughout the year and they couldn't be more friendly to first timers. An amazing date night idea and if you come during October, they feature all the classic creature features like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy and we even saw the cult classic Cat People this season (2024). Tickets are very reasonably priced.
I stumbled upon this lovely piece of history while searching for ideas of things to do with my hubby for his birthday. He loves old movies and things if times gone by. Well, this place delivers! Do not go in thinking you're going to go to a (branded) movie theatre attached to a mall. Think much, much, much, smaller. They have a "snack bar" at the entrance. You can purchase popcorn and a soda and take into the theatre, where you will hold your soda and popcorn and any other belongings you may have brought in with you. No cup holders folks! Old times! The organ plays and history is shared. We saw Swing Time and was a treat. The seats are small. So if you are like my hubs who is well over 6 foot the seats were a bit tight. I did notice the further you sat from the screen the seats appeared to be a little more modern a roomier. The decor was amazing. The volunteer staff so kind and helpful. This was a great experience and afternoon. I recommend it highly. It's not far off the end of the 105 freeway. You can take the HOV lane if you have 2 in the vehicle. Oh the best part, it won't break your pocketbook. It was $10.00 admission for seniors + $1.00 fee. Regular admission I believe was $11.00 + the fee. They are a nonprofit. Take trip back in time, visit Old Town Music Hall, and the El Segundo downtown area.
I can't say enough good things about this place. What a gem hidden amongst the restaurants and shops of El Segundo. I first came here a few years back, and never really thought about writing a review. This cute, little theatre is over 100 years old, and full of charm, history, and amazing stories. Watching a movie here transports you back in time to the joy and excitement of the theater. One of the things that make this place so special is, the theater has an original Wurlitzer pipe organ! As mentioned, the theater is old and historic, and is now a Non-Profit 501(c)(3), which means they rely heavily on donations and volunteers to stay open. Old Town Music Hall is open weekends only, showing old motion pictures, cartoons, and silent films. The Mighty Wurlitzer plays dramatically to accompany those silent films, bringing them to life. They do special holiday showings of your favorites for Halloween and Christmas. This place is for all ages and truly special. The latest show I saw was Airplane, and was such a blast! For a classic good time, come to the movies!
What a hidden gem near downtown El Segundo. If you love vintage theaters, films, and music, this is a dream come true. I loved all the architectural details at the theater. During intermission, I wandered around looking at these bygone marvels, including the tiny ticket booth, the art deco paintings on the walls, and framed photos of old-time celebrities. So charming, and a nice escape to a seemingly simpler time. I was able to purchase a ticket to a sold out show, thanks to the kind lady who answered the phone. When I arrived at the theater, she bumped me up to a better seat! The theater is operated by volunteers who clearly love their work and are dedicated to preserving its legacy. If you are looking for something fun and nostalgic to do in LA, give 'em a visit. With Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching, they are offering holiday movies and singalongs. The vintage organ in the theater is definitely a showstopper and I love how it is decorated in neon colors!
First discovered this hidden treasure during the El Segundo Art Walk. The volunteers are so passionate and engaging. So glad they restored this music hall. It's worth it just to walk inside and see the elaborate 1920's era interior (for me, similar to the Pantages Theater). What better movie to first see here than "The Shining". Decked out for Halloween, even with moving things in the women's bathroom. Snack stand at the entrance, I think with soda in glass bottles. There's a pre-show with their famous organ, some sing alongs and a vintage cartoon. Then an intermission before the feature film. Had a great time here. The screen is about 75 percent of the organ pipe wall. They don't move the organ during the film. Just wished I had gotten up for intermission since I sat for over 3 hours straight and my legs needed a good stretching. I think paying $13 online is worthwhile for the whole experience for self-selected seats and because it's a non-profit. Would love to come back! Huge parking lot makes it a guarantee.
What can you say about this place is very well restored, and an excellent venue. It's a little bit off the beaten path in El Segundo and I highly recommend coming to check it out when they're open.

You absolutely have to see a film at the Old Town Music Hall!!!! We went for my partners birthday and it was so exciting to see the 100 year old Wurlitzer in all its glory. We saw a rare Gloria Swanson silent film along w a talk by a brilliant film historian. Every show opens with a little performance but we were lucky enough to see a silent film which means that the organist live scores the entire film just as it would have been done in the 20s ! Such a special experience, and a must for any fans of music, film, and LA history. read more

Just when you begin to lose faith in humanity, you run into a spot like this. I've lived nearby for almost 9 years yet didn't discover this gem until a few months ago. I'm constantly going to revival and old theaters like The Egyptian, New Beverly, and Aero theatre and wanted to add this one to the rotation. Essentially, they transport you back in time to the early 20th century when movie theaters started taking off! And not just about the old films they show, we're talking OG Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle and lobby cards and photos on the wall. A giant Wurlitzer organ where our organist started off the night's festivities with a few words of history and a few songs on the organ. We even did some sing-alongs lol. Everyone in the red vests are volunteers keeping this running. You can sense the deep passion they all have for preserving this history and a deep love of cinema. Got a brochure calendar for showings through June and will now make sure I come out at least once a month. read more

I had no idea this place exists but it was such a treat! We watched a silent movie accompanied by the sound of 100-year old organ and I was just immersed into the music. This place is magical and I can't wait to go check out a concert here in the coming weeks. read more
If you love classic films, this is the only way to see one. It's set in an intimate theater, remodeled to the glory days in the 1920s. There's an actual Wolitzer pipe organ that they play live with silent films when they show them. It's like stepping back in time for several hours. Beautiful chandeliers, beautiful ornate ceiling, it is a must for any movie fan! read more
I recently went to the Old Town Music Hall to see Dracula (1931). It was an enjoyable visit. I really liked the pre-screening Halloween themed performance on the organ. The lobby and theater looked great decked out in Halloween decor and props. read more

This little theater is so well decorated and up kept! Everything looked very clean, despite it being an old building. The staff were very friendly and the seats are easy to locate. The organist and Halloween display really set this theater apart from others. The live show was very nice and I would love to come back during another holiday to see more of their decorations. I came to watch The Invisible Man and the film quality was great! read more

Cute little theatre. Saw Grease and bought me back. I only saw the tv commercial version. I hope they show it again. Signed up for a couple of other shows. Loved the organ and announcer giving some movie history. Popcorn can pass. I liked the glass bottles and intermission, so I didn't have to hold it throughout the movie. No cup holders. read more

AN ABSOLUTELY MUST DO! 5 STARS. ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS YOU'LL EVER DO FOR HALLOWEEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA! This is One of the Best Bargains in LA! $12 for a Night of Entertainment & Free Parking! This is Great for all Ages Kids thru Adults. It's Time to jump into The TimeMobile & scour the Earth & take you to places from a different time that you won't believe still exist! We have set the dial to 1921 in the town of El Segundo CA. We've landed at The Old Town Music Hall. You will get to experience what a movie from the 1930's actually feels like. It's a completely different movie experience than the movies that we have today. This theater is only open on the weekends with both matinee & evening performances. 2022 marks the 54th Anniversary of this institution as an Entertainment venue starting back in 1968. Yet most people have never even heard of this place before nor visited here. It is one of America's Hidden Secret Gems. It is close to LAX airport. For Halloween they have a Spooktacular Treat for everyone. The whole place is decorated with ghoulish fiends from the entrance to the stage. The organist Randy Woltz is dressed up like Count Dracula with a long black satin Cape with blood red lining on the inside. Randy plays the Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ. He explains a little bit about the history of the theater & tonight's presentation. Frankenstein the 1931 Universal Studios Masterpiece was the featured film. Did you know that when Frankenstein was first shown people fainted & had to be carried away in ambulances? Then Randy sits down & plays a few tunes on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ with more than 2500 pipes. Fantastic! Then they have a Sing Along of several songs with the audience. There's SHINE ON HARVEST MOON, MY BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN, MAIRZY DOATS & TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME. If you don't know these songs go on YouTube & practice them before you get here. Don't worry the words are displayed on the screen to help you out & there's no Quiz! LOL! Then they presented a Classic Warner Brothers Merry Melodies Halloween Cartoon. The one they featured was Hair Raising Hare with Bugs Bunny. Then there's a short intermission. You can check out the whole place & see all the decorations. They had a signed picture of Boris Karloff & his daughter on the stage next to the Frankenstein Statue. You can visit the snack bar that is on the front entrance. It's called the W.C. Fields Cafe & has reasonable priced popcorn & sodas in glass bottles & candy. $5 for a Sparkling Water in a bottle & a Box of Popcorn. What a Deal! Frankenstein is such a Classic film & entertaining to watch anytime but especially at Halloween.! It's So Cool you get to experience how the movie was originally broadcast & what seeing a movie was like back in the 1930's. What a Great Show! You can also park right next door. Chevron lets you park there on the weekends for FREE! The whole month of October is Horror Movies Month perfect for Halloween. November is a tribute to the great Fred Aistsire. The History Bill Field & Bill Koffnan were musicians & purchased a 1925 Wurlitzer Pipe Organ from the Fox West Coast Theater in Long Beach. It was moved to El Segundo & installed @ The former State Theater. It was a former silent movie theater in 1921. The 2 Bills opened the current theater in October 1968 & the Old Time Movie Experience continues to this very day. The current prices are $12 General Admission for Talking Movies.. The organist plays several songs. $20 for Silent Movies where the organist plays continuously throughout the movie. $25 for Concerts. "Two musicans, Bill Coffman & Bill Field, bought a 1925 Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ that was at the Fox West Coast Theatre in Long Beach, CA in the 1960's, and installed it at the former El Segundo State Theatre that opened in 1921 as a silent theatre. The two Bills opened Old Town Music Hall in 1968." OTMH has been running for 50 years although Bill Coffman is no longer here, but Bill Field still is a trooper and carries on this great El Segundo tradition. The OTMH is small compared to the old grand dame theatres along Broadway In DTLA, but it makes up for it w/ its intimate size & warm home spun feel. The small lobby is full of framed photographs of old movie stars, elegant tin ceiling. Don't forget to get Mae's Coconut Macaroons which seem "homemade". A young man was tinkling piano keys on an upright to keep us entertained in the lobby waiting for the theatre doors to open. Once in, there is a 9 foot, 92 key Bösendorfer concert grand piano which was handmade in Vienna specifically for OTMH as well as the Wurlitzer. The pipes and associated musical instruments such as drums, tambourine, etc. are visible, and many are accented w/ paint that eerily glows under UV light in the dark while the Wurlitzer is playing. The organ console has 4 keyboards, 260 switches & other controls & pedals which may make it harder to operate precisely than piloting a 747. Before showing the main movie, Bill Field plays a piece or two on Wurlitzer, a movie short, then the often silent movie or vintage "talkies". For the silent movies, Bill F. accompanies playing the Wurlitzer just like back in the 1920's for a bit of period piece verité. OTMH first introduced me to the comedic genius of Harold Lloyd. That which I am most grateful. Mr. Field is now getting on in years so it would behoove the curious to go to OTMH soon before he retires. Besides the movies, there are live music piano concerts, banjo bands, ragtime orchestras, organists, dixie jazz bands, singers mostly on Sundays. PS Cash or check only. The establishment was originally built in 1921, served for different purposes, such as theatre and church, and now ended up as the music hall, facilities and instruments are almost 100 years old, tiny and chic place, very 20s and 30s styles, where you could feel the history and smell the old times. read more

An adorable little music hall that has all the character one would wish for and more. The place is welcoming, and the staff is friendly. My husband and I went this past weekend and loved everything, especially the pianist who opened the show, the organist, and comfy reclining chairs. It's just a magical place with so much to offer. I am a huge fan of black and white movies so to add the pianist and organist before the movie made the whole night a memorable one for us. I cannot wait to visit this music hall again. I can only imagine how cool it would be to check out a Halloween movie at this place. read more

There is a lot right next to it and street parking in El Segundo is free. First spot you see, pull on in and enjoy the town. There's a bar directly across the street that serves beer and wine and some pretty good bar food. Lots of other places…
