The great Shinyribs
Refugio G.

I had to go to Los Angeles for work and was fortunate enough that my work dates coincided with a Shinyribs show. If you've never seen them perform, make it a priority. It's different types of music that works and you're guaranteed to have a good time unless you're just a mopey person, and even then, you will enjoy yourself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The venue: I'd never been to this place but it is reminiscent of old school bars with a small stage.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Getting a drink can be a challenge because everybody goes belly up at the bar but be patient and you'll get attentive service when the barkeep gets to you. Drinks are stiff, pours are generous, and prices are very reasonable for the area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sound is great, we started at the back and made our way up front.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's a bit of an elbowing game but as long as you're not a jerk, people will step aside for you. It probably also helps that I'm 6'3. I enjoyed the show and will revisit if work takes me back to L.A.

We found out about a Beatles tribute band (Beat 5) playing a Sunday at The Venice West. We'd never been before and we'll definitely be back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fantastic music, great venue, tasty drinks and wonderful staff...especially our server Treestan.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you are looking for a fun Sunday brunch with live Beatles music I highly recommend The Beat 5 @thebeat_5 the first Sunday of the month.

Went last night to see Journey Jukebox. I want to complement the bartender. He was very friendly & nice and made the evening more enjoyable. Will definitely come back to this venue in the future.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great bands every Saturday for Grateful brunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Really good burger. Nice Bloody Mary. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great hang with your love and friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]So excited to see GoldFord play at an intimate space. Also fortunate to get a VIP table[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]What wasn't fortunate or even my part time job was getting the random ass people that just came in out.. and that when they came in and obnoxiously obstructing the view which was the point of selecting those tables[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So it wasn't just me having to say something but 2 other parties that had to address the issue. So if you're going to sell and "resell" tables have a staff member that controls it better than the customers

Nasty flourless chocolate cake omg it should be named flavorless chocolate cake yuck

The Venice West was pretty cool. Just a little bit too square for us. (The crowd was too square) The staff/ employees even the security guards were all awesome super friendly and welcoming. Definitely love the vibe they all had going on. The decor is nice and inviting. Love the setup and it's very well maintained. Our waitress I believe her name was Bee but I didn't get a receipt so I'm not 100% sure that's her name. She was freaking awesome such a sweetheart and on top of her game!! We never had to ask for anything. She really made our Valentine's night out a great one! Food/drinks 5 stars means amazing 4 stars means good 3 stars means ok 2 stars means bad 1 star means horrible Beer 5 stars Cadillac margarita was 5 stars in taste but way too small of a glass for 17 bucks a pop. Cauliflower fried chicken was 5 stars but definitely a little skimpy on the portion but delicious AF. Onion rings 5 stars very fresh and tasty Fish tacos 5 stars Very tasty, fresh, and super crispy. Pepperoni and spicy honey pizza 4 stars Very tasty but needs some kind of spicy to tone down the honey. Unfortunately the honey isn't spicy. Parmesan fries 3 stars were crispy but lacked flavor. Flourless chocolate cake gets 1 star It was the most horrible cake ever. It should be named flavorless chocolate cake. Absolutely disgusting. Also a shot out to the older gentleman in the kitchen who brought out or food. He was super friendly and fast. Knocked off 1 star for the fact we had to wait an hour over the start time for the live music until 9pm instead of 8pm and the little tiny glass for the Cadillac margarita. Other than that everything was good. Overall a decent spot for some live music, food, and drinks.

Completely impressed with this venue. Did not know what to expect tonight as I was gifted tickets. Was super pumped when the staff welcomed us to a high top table early and were tentatively taking care of us drink after drink! The fries lemme tell you about those Parmesan Garlic Fries - perfect little drunk snack! The venue overall was completely rad, clean, and super a vibe for what it was! Sound quality was solid even after some difficulties. I'll certainly be back especially if there's a show up my alley next time we visit!

It was fun! Wandered in here on an early Saturday afternoon (1230pm I believe). There was a great band playing, the bartender was handsome, nice and attentive. There was a menu for food/brunch. There was a good amount of people in here. The place is large and clean. The bottled beer choices are minimal but they had many on tap. Full bar. Everyone looked super happy! Thanks for the great company Venice West! Selud!

Ask the Community - The Venice West

Where's the best and nearest hotel to the club? And is it walking distance?

I usually park my car at the Marriott Marina Del Rey. It's about 1 mile from the Venice West. I can't walk far due to a hip with arthritis, but it's a very nice hotel.

How do you get inside the venue? We had tickets last night but seemed all the doors were closed? There was the door on the corner, locked. The main door on Lincoln says "use the door on the corner". Too bad we missed the show.

The door on the corner by Lincoln Street is the entrance door. I think the side street is Superba Avenue. The entrance is facing east.

Is there parking available for Venice West?

There are a bunch of prepay parking lots and just maybe if you're lucky you can find free street parking.

Wanna confirm if purchase of a concert ticket will guarantee a seat?

Seating is available for dinner service and some performances. Tables and chairs will be removed before showtime for all full capacity events- this means standing room only. To guarantee a seat for the entirety of an event, you may book a…

When is Happy Hour?

Not sure that there is an actual “Happy Hour” - most nights, the place isn’t even open til. 6, and whatever band/group/entertainment usually starts at 7pm

How many people big is the venue? Is it standing only or can I buy a seat? Is the advertised act the only one? Does the advertised band go on on time at 8 if doors open at 6? Is there a drink or food minimum? Is it a roof enclosed venue?

Yes, there is a roof over your head….you can usually purchase a ticket in advance for the event you want to see, not sure there is a minimum, but the food is good and so are the drinks and the wait staff! If you want to see a certain act, get there…

We saw KRS-one was sold out. However, we saw that there were dinner reservations available on open table. We made reservations. We know we have to spend 100 a person, which is fine. But, we don't have actual tickets. Can we stay for the show?

Hi Gary- Unfortunately, if you don't have a ticket, you won't be able to enter the venue for your reservation.

When we arrived, the entrance was constantly blocked by the hostess and security chatting. One staff member told me to head to the bar to order, but security then acted like I was doing something wrong. A little communication between staff would go a long way. At the bar, I was skipped twice while waiting to order. When I pointed it out, the bartender told me to "hold on" while assisting a 3rd walk up after me. I asked if we could move to an open table with table service as there were many empty for ghe hour we had already been there and was told no because they were too busy. Fair enough, but that's exactly when management should be visible, coordinating staff and helping guests. Instead, when I spoke with a manager, the response was essentially that he was focused on the bar area. Good management oversees the entire operation, especially during peak periods. I was one of 5 people in our party who spent around $100 on food and drinks (apx $500 spent in total), yet the service was a mess. If it's self-service, that's fine...but make it clear and make it work. Instead, I was skipped at the bar while ordering, staff gave conflicting directions, and there was virtually no support once we had our food. We found ourselves constantly going back and forth to the bar for drinks, utensils, soy sauce, and anything else we needed. No one checked in, and getting help from staff or management was nearly impossible. The food was decent, but the customer experience wasn't. Venice Beach is always busy. This shouldn't come as a surprise. If you're going to market yourself as part of that vibrant community, you need the operational standards to match.

What a wonderful surprise…read more I live just around the corner from Jamaica Bay Inn, and for whatever reason, it took me far too long to finally have dinner here with family and friends. I wish I'd discovered it sooner. The restaurant overlooks Mother's Beach, and the setting is exactly what you'd hope for: peaceful, relaxed, and quintessential Marina del Rey. You almost expect the view to be the highlight... Then the food shows up. For appetizers, we shared the hummus plate and the calamari. Both were excellent. As someone whose kids were practically raised eating seafood around the ports of New England, calamari is one of those deceptively simple dishes we judge pretty harshly. Beachside absolutely passed the test. I ordered the cheeseburger, which was solid, but the real stars of the evening were the roasted Jidori chicken and the jumbo shrimp fettuccine. The chicken was perfectly juicy, something that sounds easy but surprisingly few restaurants consistently get right. The shrimp fettuccine completely stole the show. In fact, it's now become my daughter's regular takeout order, and she's easily the toughest pasta critic in our family. Congratulations... you've officially earned the title of our favorite pasta spot in the Marina. The service was another highlight. Our server spoke both German and Italian, had a great sense of humor, and made the evening feel warm and effortless. Between the location, the food, and the hospitality, I already know this is going to become one of our regular family dinner spots.

First let me say that Nahum, who helped us was excellent. The absolute perfect balance of checking on you but not overdoing it. If it weren't for Nahum, morning sun, and the breeze, I think we would have sent back our plates and left. Really. We didn't tell him there were any issues, because once the decision was made to stay, why ruin his holiday too? lol Ordered coffee. Dreadful. Ok, no big deal. The food came out and I could immediately SEE The Unappetizing . It's special when you can tell that your food is going to be bad before you take one bite. The French toast was Sahara dry, burned and flavorless. The chicken, was competing with it in the dry and flavorless category-- I really can't say which was worse. I don't really use hot sauce and I drowned the tenders in Cholula just to make it halfway edible. Literally we could have waited for the AMC chicken tenders and they would have been better, which is horrifying. Particularly when you try to avoid fried food in general and now you are poisoning your body for no good reason. Husband ordered a steak and eggs, medium well. I'll attach the picture and I'll let you be the judge of whether or not it was cooked properly. Eggs were not good either. Immediately, I gave hubby more than half my plate because he eats All of Everything that's put in front of him. Something would have to get up and walk off his plate for him to not eat it. He was taught not to waste food, period. The exception was steak so that he could take it home, cook it, and then eat it. This was possibly the worst meal I've ever had, and certainly on a special occasion. So many places we could have gone today that would have been a different experience, but it will never happen again. Parking: They have an adjacent paid parking lot though metered street parking is cheaper since they unfortunately don't validate. Ambiance: Really gorgeous inside, with high arced wooden beam ceilings, natural light through skylights, romantic dim lighting, candles, lots of potted trees for greenery, and velvet seating to add elegance. Even the plates are worth admiring. They have a nice patio with heat lamps for cooler evenings as well. I absolutely love the vibes for date night. I have eaten here four times now and have a reservation ready for my fifth. The menu changes EVERY WEEK and the fact that the ingredients are so seasonal, and the chef really seems to takes pride and passion in creating different dishes so often, keeps me coming back each time. They have done specials from Sunday Night $35 7-course omakase to 50% off Neighborhood Patio nights to $65 for two 4-course date nights and the quality is so worth it. I even came by for an art class hosted on the patio since they hold multiple community events, including sports watch parties. The best yellowtail I've had (including eating in Japan and various sushi spots in LA, OC, SF, and NY) was surprisingly here, at a place I was honestly hesitant to even order sushi from. It's the first time I actually really could taste the flavor as it's more subtle than tuna, salmon, or albacore but they somehow made it incredibly memorable from the freshness. Definitely order the hamachi with pomegranate. I loved the flavor with the ponzu and that it wasn't just the basic jalapeño combo. There was a Singaporean crab garlic butter noodle dish they made once that was incredible though sadly seemed to be on the menu that time only. This was my absolute favorite entree they've offered so far. The gem lettuces Caesar salad is amazing although unfortunately, both times I've ordered it without cheese, they forgot. The boquerones (anchovies) are a gem (ha) that really adds to the salad and I love the texture from the herb crust. Their signature shrimp toast has a good crunch from the sesame seeds and distinct pieces of shrimp rather than mush inside and the ikura on top adds another good layer of flavor. The vegetable curry was rich, flavorful, and savory witbout being too heavy with perfectly cooked potatoes that didn't just hide in the sauce in a way that actually didn't make me miss the meat. The short rib curry had such tender meat and the roti made in house was actually a major highlight for me as it was so flaky, hot, crispy and had an amazing garlic flavor. The chocolate pot de creme had a good orange zest flavor to add to the chocolate and wasn't too rich or heavy though the texture was thicker. The calamari had super crispy batter so didn't associate it as much with a lighter tempura one but the lemons in it and the roasted garlic marinara sauce it came with were so good and added a lot of depth. The butter curry prawns has SUCH well cooked shrimp - flavor was amazing. Miso salmon was good though crispy skin side up would have been better personally. I liked the olive oil flavor in the vinaigrette and the lemon with veggies on the side as well. The tres leches was surprisingly light for a cake and very moist so I enjoyed a lot and the caramel ice cream wasn't overly sweet. The lychee vodka drink is my favorite (came with a drink pairing they offered with Sunday omakase) and the imperial gold yuzu cocktail is better for those who like a stronger drink. The grilled asparagus was cooked to a tenderness with great flavor from the crispy onions on top that have somehow made it among my top favorite dishes here, despite it just being a small side vegetable dish but I didn't like asparagus until this! I would definitely recommend coming here for dinner over brunch personally, as those have been my most memorable bites. Definitely order the yellowtail sashimi, shrimp toast, gem lettuces Caesar salad! Hoping the garlic butter crab noodles, grilled asparagus with crispy onions, and housemade roti reappear on the dinner menu!
