I've been here two more times since the first time I went, and I'm no longer impressed with this Chipotle. I ordered a steak burrito both times, and they both times the food was cold. The meat was so cold I had to put my food in the microwave. At this Chipotle, they hardly put any meat in the burrito and seemed to try to make up for it in rice. They also charge a lot for guacamole. I ordered two burritos, one for me and my hubby, and it was almost $20! So not worth the money! read more

After having lived in this community for over 30 years and eating at half a dozen different Chipotle Restaurants, I was so excited to discover that we were getting a Chipotle here in Merced thanks to the UC students. Now that they've been open for about a year, I can truthfully say that I have eaten there only 3 times despite the fact that it is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Why??? 1. Small food quantity: if you ask for extra for each ingredient, they will give you extra, but you must ask, ask, ask. 2. Poor food quality: rice was undercooked, guacamole was old, they were out of pico de gallo salsa, chips were too salty, food was cold. 3. Long wait: if you go during employee break time, be prepared for there to be only two people helping customers on the food line and employees (including the manager who should be helping out on the line) standing around texting, eating and drinking. I can only hope that whoever is responsible for this restaurant reads these reviews and makes some much needed improvements before it is too late. read more

Basically the same as any other chipotle. However, there's a catch. The portions aren't really as large as they usually are not to mention the food is less flavorful. The design of the building is pretty awkward because there's no separation between the line and tables. Speaking of which, there aren't many spots to sit at. 5/4/2014 Placed order and as girl was assembling our choices in the burrito we ordered - she said we would have to wait for the chicken as it was not ready yet - (and during this time the beans and other ingredients were sitting on the tortilla getting cold my fiancé responded with "we do not want our food to get cold" and she said "no problem - if it is cold I will make you a new one - no problem"; he said "okay." Went to order guacamole - we were told they out - they had just opened. Started to eat our food and the food was very cold, the beans were not even warm. My fiancé brought the food to the front to tell them it was cold and he told the cashier that the girl that prepared our order (aka "Marisa") told him that she would make us a fresh one if it was cold - she then responded to him saying "I did not say that" but if you want "I will make you a new one anyway". With that, my fiancé told me we were leaving and told them he wanted his money back. The next thing to occur was the cashier did not know how to refund our money on a credit card transaction - after a good ten minutes - they just gave him cash. We decided we wanted to contact the Manager and Corporate Office. So I went back into the establishment while my fiancé waited in the truck to get the information. I asked the server who made our burrito what was her name (aka "Marisa") and she was smirking while spelling out her name and I then asked to speak to the manager and was rudely told by a heavily tattooed gangster looking girl that he was out on a delivery and she was the Kitchen Manager. I asked her for her name (aka "Christina") and asked her for the corporate office contact number - she rudely replied there was no corporate office contact number and said the business card with the gift cards on the stand by the cashier - as she was pointing at my face. I told her to not point at me and that it was rude and I was sure that Chipotle has a corporate office. She then snapped "leave the premises now or I will call the cops" - I responded "go ahead - I'm not breaking any laws I'm asking for contact information and you are being rude". I then proceeded to leave. With that - there was a male worker who was working with food that possessed a beard and no type of covering over his face to stop his beard hair from falling in the food - which I do not believe is in compliance with the health code when working around food . read more

This place has gone downhill. Even before the outbreak, their portions were small and charged the same 9-12 bucks. (Depending if you wanted guac) their service is bad and the employees always seem to be in a bad mood. When you ask for a little extra they roll their eyes and serve it in a bad attitude. This Chipotle is great. The restaurant is always spotless. The food is well portioned and tasty. I've been getting a burrito that's a mix of chorizo and chicken and its a delicious combo.The customer service at this Chipotle is excellent. Every time I come here I'm greeted by friendly and talkative staff. I was excited that Merced was finally going to have a Chipotle! Sure the first few visits were awesome, but after awhile and new workers this place has gone down hill. I remember I placed an order online to be picked up in 30 minutes. I arrived right on time, maybe a few seconds late. But the workers at that time didn't have my order ready, and they took time to goof around for a good 10 minutes before they started on my order. The employees at this location are exceptional. Every one of the staff members I interacted with were warm, friendly, patient and genuine. I stopped here on my way from Sequoia National Park to San Francisco and accidentally left my backpack behind, which I didn't realize until I was all the way back in SF (3 hours away). I called the store and they immediately reassured me they had the backpack with them, and then they offered to ship it to me. I insisted on paying for the shipping (it was my mistake to leave it obviously) but they wouldn't allow it. Within 15 minutes, they took my backpack to the local UPS, boxed it up, shipped it, and texted me with the tracking #. And they paid for everything Seriously - Who does this? They did. I come to this location all the time whenever I don't feel like cooking when I get off of school. Today I went in for lunch with my fiancé after class and the two workers were very polite and energetic. I love it when the workers are energetic because it gives it a positive atmosphere. Other than that, we both got two small free drinks for being college students which was pretty generous of them. Other than that, there's always this blonde girl that never seems to want to help me from my previous visits. Every time I come in when she's working, she always makes me wait even when I'm the only customer there. She doesn't ring me right up away when I'm in line at the register (first one) but waits until she finishes all the customers' orders and quickly rushes me out. I visit this chipotle a couple of times a week (yeah kind of too much but I love it). I have not experienced the 'skimping' some reviews mention, in fact there's almost too much stuffed into the burritos. I have also never had an issue with poor customer service. If I had any complaints it's the size of the dining area - way too cramped. All in all a great fast and somewhat healthy place to eat. read more

Thank God for a Chipotle existing in Merced! My favorites are the crispy tacos- I get 2 for a little over 5 bucks and that's a meal for me (I add rice unlike authentic tacos - rice and beans makes a complete protein I've heard). I like that there is always plenty of close parking. The employees are happy and helpful. The store is clean, and Chipotle food is healthier and safer than most other choices in the area - not to mention affordable. Cody is one of the newer managers here - he is nice and does a great job and is helping this Chipotle improve and thrive! read more

*3-1/2 stars* I'm not sure what the fuss is about. The people that worked there were friendly. Food is good but not great. I had a chicken burrito bowl. My husband had a burrito and he LOVED it, so it's all just a matter of opinion, I guess. My 9 yo daughter had a kids meal. Be forewarned about the kids meals, they are TINY - the perfect size for a 3 or 4 year old. My daughter ordered the cheese quesadilla kids meal and was still starving afterward. So, if she goes back, she'll be ordering something from adult menu. Kind of frustrating because the adult portions are way too big for her. She needs something in the middle. Oh, one thing I loved: the chips. They are awesome! Overall, this place isn't bad, it's just not for me. In the future, when I crave really good Mexican food, I think I'll pass on Chipotle. I love chipotle's burrito bowels. The issue I have with the Merced store is they always burn their chicken. They cook it at too high of a temperature. Other stores I've visited in Turlock and Manteca have perfectly cooked chicken. Merced should turn down their grill. Until a few days ago, I hadn't eaten at chipotle since October 2015 when the E. coli reports came out. I'm slowly going to try going back. I had a carnitas bowl last week and it tastes fresh. Wish they'd stop burning the chicken. When one side of the chicken is crispy with black char, that's an indicator that it's over cooked/burned. Keep up the safety and sanitation standards and I'm sure people will start coming back. read more

I love this place and it is not just because I love Chipotle. I've been to many Chipotle's before but this one is my favorite. I have gone here looking homeless all the way to looking my best and every time no matter what time (10 minutes before closing) have always been greeted with a smile. Excellent customer service, some of the employees even remember my order from back in the day where I use to go literally maybe 2-3 times a week. When they first open I took my family here and it was their first time ever at a Chipotle and were even given a free bowl on the house and had an employee personally check up on my parents to make sure the food was up to standards and welcome them in. They went above and beyond! They are always supporting our Merced community and have are always having fundraisers which is also a great plus. read more

We came here on our way to San Fran. Worst customer service I have ever had. I'm a a small business owner and customer service is very important to me. I ask for very light salsa and she dumped it all over my salad. I apologize and ask her if she could just scoop some off. That I ask for very little. She rolled her eyes and told me well you ask for it. I said I'm sorry I ask for very light. Then she just put it on the tray and gave it to the cashier. Didn't ask me if I was red anything else like lettuce, sour cream, avocado, etc. because she was made. I ask the girl if I could have the topping at the register. She said there was customer behind me I said was supper rude? The girl started talking about me and my husband and gave me dirty look the whole time. Ok so I've been here quite a few times, and usually everything is great! But recently I've gone and there's been a rude employee who I've actually found out is a manager. First off, managers/supervisors should always start off with a friendly welcome. She actually told an employee right in front of me while I was paying, to go tell a man his card was declined. I understand that completely, but there is a way to go about things. Properly. You don't say it extremely loud so the whole restaurant can hear you and you don't just say "aye sir your card was declined" and walk away. I found it to be very rude and if I were that man I'd be quite embarrassed. I also heard her cussing in the back, once again extremely loud. Do what you want on your break, but keep your voice down. I won't say her name here, but I definitely will be calling corporate. Also, if I order a bowl, I expect the bottom to be filled with beans and rice at least, lately they've been stingier and stingier with it all. I'm not asking for extra, just the amount I am rightfully paying for. I think I'll just drive to turlock from now on. read more

I'm trying to decide between one star and two.... and decided upon two because the restaurant was pretty clean and the servers were polite. The food deserves a single star! We ate at Chipotle Grill in Sand City, California last week (twas the first time ever at any Chipotle location)... and we were very pleased! We had the chicken burrito and it was hot, well seasoned and delicious. Today we were out shopping and decided to try our local Chipotle here in Merced. .............. REALLY disappointed!!! The chicken wasn't well seasoned and was barely warm..the steak was tough and gristly and though it was warm, it wasn't hot. The brown rice and black beans weren't hot either... and when the chilled salsas and sour cream were added ... it all became a luke warm and wet, soggy mess. Before today's lunch, I read the Yelp reviews and should have listened to those because they weren't good. Next time, I'll pay more attention. Bottom line, I can only speak for today and our order... but we weren't at all happy with our meal and won't return to the Merced Chipotle. read more

So my co-workers and I come here just about once a week, you can order online pick it up and it's super fast & easy. But today was a totally different story. Placed my online order, 2 bowls & a burrito. No one bothered to call us and tell us they weren't going to be able to make them because the ventilation system was down so no chicken or steak. I get there and then they inform us we can choose between the shredded beef or the sofritas. The bowls are now a lot smaller, they hardly put any meat and rice even tho we paid extra for extra meat. Also the ice machine was down....The only good thing about my visit was the chips, those seem to stay the same and amazing! Chipotle you have officially let me down! read more
