Never seen anything like it. We like Del taco. Food was fine but wow the staff and the lack of staff. Drill sergeant behind the counter going off as soon as folks walk in the door. Giving the cold speech over and over "Welcome, use the kiosk". Between the high prices and attitudes literally everyone after us walked out. One older gentlemen obviously needed help and they just kept drilling him in how to use the kiosk instead of just helping him. 12.00 burrito at Del taco? Went through drive thru ordered large del tacos (specified large del tacos) but when I got home we had tiny disgusting tacos, it's bad enough that people get over charged by these places but they can't even get the orders right. The del taco was Olive Ave in Merced do yourself a favor and don't go there, they often screw up orders. read more

I just came through the drive thru. I ordered 18 snack size soft tacos. They gave me 18 hard shell tacos at the window. I waved them back and told them I ordered all soft tacos. Noemi comes to the window and says "I heard you- you ordered hard shell." I said no I did not. I gave them the food back and asked them to make soft shells. She annoyed, took the tacos and said she would make them. She comes back and asked me to park up front so "she can help the people behind me." I asked for her name. She said why? I said bc I am going to report this interaction bc I don't appreciate being called a liar. I don't like being talked to like poop and being told I said something I didn't just bc they didn't listen and made a mistake. I basically just wasted $30 bucks bc I'm sure they spit in my food. The meat was tender and the toppings blended well. A little you much tomato for my taste, but that's me. The fries were a little over cooked but were still good. Honestly del taco is slipping. I used to prefer them to Taco Bell, but now I'll try my luck at the bell. Used to offer the macho fries that were a good size, hot crispy and they would give you a big cup full of em. Now you get a soggy lil bag. What really irks me is this location only does taco Tuesday til 9pm now, when they used to go much later and even the website says til 11pm. Pretty lame, especially for a struggling college town. On the flip side they now have a Thursday chicken soft taco special which might be their only redeeming quality... overall hate what this place has become. Just not what it used to be and definitely not on par with the brand. There was this nice older Mexican woman there who was always great but now that she's gone the customer service is seriously lacking... always seem rude rushed and annoyed. read more

Mmmm... Del Taco... I prefer it much more than Taco Bell. The shells are nice and crisp the way they should be. At least they didn't change their recipe unlike the other chain. The meat is fresh and spiced well, and I really like the hot sauce. The only thing I don't get is getting fries with my tacos... nice add though and they are crinkle cut like I like. Cooked well, not greasy, and they are crisp. The green burrito is really good too. Everything is really fresh and they use lots of cheese. Awesome! read more

I would give this place a solid 5 stars, but the Del Taco in Merced specifically can be a bit ehh at times. Every time I go with my friends, I spend less than $5. I ALWAYS have some type of coupon when I go. For dinner yesterday, I had 2 coupons: 1 for a 1/2 pound burrito, and the other for a free shrimp taco with any purchase. So I purchased 2 tacos + the above for $1.07. :] The food is above decent. Taco Bell has its distinct taste right? You eat tacos from Taco Bell...and you know they're from Taco Bell. Del Taco however, tastes more 'homely' (as if they were made at home). Often-times I would bring a coupon, and I'd have a verbal battle with the manager(s), explaining to them that even though I printed multiple coupons, it says one coupon PER PERSON, so it doesn't matter that they're all the same. read more

The fries are excellent. I miss the Fire-Roasted Veggie Bowl, though. The person behind the counter was friendly. The burgers here are whatever, they won't blow your mind or anything, but for the price you can't really complain as they are still cheaper than some other places. I don't know about the "fancier" tacos that they sell here, but the classic hard shell taco is one hell of a deal for less than a buck.
