Major disappointment. Home and sick with a severe head cold, I ordered China Star for delivery. Big mistake! Kung pao chicken wings were the highlight. Nice sauce! Unfortunately they were packed in a quart-sized contained so three of the wings were soaking in it while the other three were left high and dry. Flat container would've made much more sense. BBQ pork appetizer was tougher than shoe leather. I literally had to irrigate my mouth immediately after eating some as tough fibers embedded themselves between each and every one of my 32 teeth! Mongolian beef and kung pao chicken were also disappointments. The meat itself was fine and the sauce was acceptable but both dishes were laden with all manner of random "Chinese" vegetables like baby corn, water chestnuts and mushrooms. These are simple, classic dishes that should not be adulterated with whatever the Hell random vegetables are laying around the kitchen! Really wish the menu listed what was included in each dish so I could've omitted these random additions. Next time I'll suck it up and drive on over to Katy's for some realness.... read more

They primarily offer take out food which has a significantly higher quality of ingredients than many of the local sit down family restaurants. The communication over the phone can be a little confusing but they run a great local family business. The pork fried rice and dumplings are awesome. They also have a big plastic sheet up to separate you from their family and workers for our Covid safety. read more

We used to love this place. However, we have become very concerned with the food we are receiving. 2 weeks ago we ordered food and my dad found something that looked like a flimsy staple in his food. We brushed it off assuming it was just a staple from the packaging. Then today, as my husband was eating he found this long piece of flimsy metal in his food. We discovered China Star during Covid! This is a great option for reasonably priced Chinese food in the Wheaton/ Warrenville area. My husband & I have both really enjoyed our food every time we order from here. I love the sesame chicken & their beef dishes. Their egg rolls & crab Rangoon are good too! Sometimes the best food isn't found at a fancy sit-down restaurant, a lot of times it's found in small little "hole in the wall" type eateries. And with China Star located off of Roosevelt Road in Wheaton this is definitely the case. China Star is a tiny little take-out place with a few tables set up for dining in if you're so inclined. I've had a fairly diverse set of offerings from China Star over the years and I figured I'd cover the basics. They have both regular menu items, and if you order around lunch time less expensive "lunch specials" that include various entrees, rice, an egg roll and a fortune cookie. If it's lunchtime and you're not planning to bring food home and share it with others then the lunch special is definitely the way to go as it provides plenty of food for any one individual to eat. The lunch specials are generally inexpensive (around 6.00) so the value here is tremendous. First off is the General Tso's chicken served here. It usually comes with broccoli and rice. The chicken they use is well cooked pre-breaded chicken with a very thick and decadent general tso sauce. While others have expressed their complaint that this is a bit too spicy for their tastes, I find it to be the perfect blend of sweet and hot having just the ring tangy flavor in the sauce to even out the flavor. Next off are the pot stickers also known as steamed dumplings. The one's served here at China Star are the best I've come across. A tasty sausage like meat is inside of a soft breading. These are absolutely fantastic and are as good as the entree itself. I've also had a variety of other dishes and appetizers including crab rangoon, and other chicken dishes all of which I've enjoyed but the General Tso's and pot stickers are definitely my two favorite dishes here. Overall China Star is my favorite "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant. The quality of the food here is excellent and the prices are low. If you're in the mood for Chinese takeout I highly recommend it. read more

Good example of "don't judge a book by its cover." This is small and somewhat run down little restaurant on busy Roosevelt Road in Wheaton. I suggest you carry out since they only have two tables and it's pretty crowded in the main room with supplies and a bunch of other random stuff that looks like it needs a home some place else. That said, this is a fantastic option for Americanized Chinese food in the Western burbs. Large portions and the quality is above what I've found elsewhere. They use all white meat chicken (I dissected a couple of pieces, yep I did too) and they aren't stingy with the other ingredients. The combo fried rice was fresh tasting and and sported large pieces of chicken and shrimp, etc. I also tried the Spring rolls. The orange chicken my daughter had some of the largest and juciest pieces of chicken I've ever seen in this dish (hate this dish by the way, who thought up this bizzaro concotion of flavors?!) The spring rolls were good but I've had better yet still for the price and freshness, I give them a thumbs up. This is a family run place so cherish it for what it is. Yes, children of the owners were there but I found it endearing. Bottom line, place could use a good clearing out and cleaning but the food was an incredible value, was hot and fresh and did I say huge portions. And, Dan the hot dog man loves it too so you can't wrong! read more

I love the fact that a precocious child answers the door and runs my card but I'm here for the food. I favor the chicken and vegetarian dishes over the beef but that's my advice or quibbling. Can't beat the food and price value of it! This place makes me almost as happy as seeing LeBron and all his championship rings!! This is my go to place when it comes to take out, quick Chinese, casual meals, and even some catering needs. The food here is pretty good, but let's not go in with the expectation of some sit down restaurant. It's Chinese take out and so long as you keep that in mind you'll get what you want, and it's pretty darn good. So the food... it's Americanized Chinese, and it's take out, so stick to the main dishes and I'd steer away from the sushi. A dinner portion (about 9 bucks) can probably feed two. It's sometimes a bit heavy on the sauce, but it's expected. When it comes to soups, I'd go wonton here over the hot and sour. All in all, it's good stuff and you can't find anything close when it comes to value. The venue and service. It's a take out place so unless absolutely necessary, there's no need to eat in there. There's two tables, and I don't think more than 5 people ever eat in there. The service is good and they always watch out for the customer. Overall, I already go here a lot and I'll keep going here so long as the food is good. read more

My husband and I have searched for years to find a decent Chinese food restaurant in our neighborhood. We were happy with Jasmine Cafe, the food was delicious, although it did not have delivery. We were sad to see the last time we went that they are closed. We ordered China Star II at a work function recently and I was not disappointed. The egg rolls were big and crispy. We ordered the Sesame Chicken and Beef and Broccoli, along with an order of Fried Rice to share among a group of five of us. The portions were great for group sharing and we even had some leftovers (which were just as delicious reheated!) The only reason I do not give this a five star rating is because of the crab rangoon. It was way too sweet and not crispy enough for my taste. It may have been suitable as a dessert, but too overpowering to eat more than one. My husband and I are ordering tonight and I am anxious to see if he likes it. i myself am looking forward to some more of that sesame chicken! read more

Great neighborhood Chinese restaurant! The portions are generous and the pricing is great. When you pick up your order you are handed a free can of coke - the number of cokes seems to vary... I think it may be for every $10 you spend? This place is run by a great friendly hardworking family. Occasionally you may see the son helping at the register or answering phones and the little girl coloring in a corner with a grandmother. I am a big fan of the pork fried rice. The box comes FULL of meat and packed, overflowing as soon as it is opened. *Warning Mom, there are peas in the fried rice! The Crab Rangoon has a super sweet filling. It's all right, I guess. I come here often enough when I want fast Chinese take-out. The portions are large, the food is decent, and it's pretty darn cheap. They make it very quickly. The owner's two children are usually helping, and they're relatively entertaining tykes who will beat each other up if one wants to give you the receipt and the other one thinks he should be the one doing the job. I'm talking kicks and everything. The dining room is not really that. It's got two tables, and the waiting area is small and rather grubby. But most people get the take-out. There's a good lunch menu with smaller, cheaper portions. All in all, it has good food in low-price, large-portions. Worth going to just for that. read more

Today, when I called to place an order for carry out, the young staff person was very unfriendly. Most disappointing was the food. I've gotten take out from this place for years. It used to be owned by the aunt of the current owners. She was not the friendliest people in the world. If the order was wrong she didn't really care very much. With that said the current owners are very nice. The portions are beyond generous but I don't feel the food is the best. The fried rice tends to be mushy as if it wasn't cold when they cooked it. This place is my favorite for the soups. They are tasty and have plenty of vegetables, won ton, etc. in them. Let me start out with we are in here probably 2 times a week. The service is awesome. Sometimes you can't understand them on the phone but they understand you just fine and food always comes out right. We have been trying to find something that we don't like as if its a challenge. We had China Star last week, and were pretty surprised by our experience - in a good way! First off, they give you a lot of food for the price! We had Chinese two nights in a row, thanks to the generous portions. A second thing worth noting would be the quality of the food. I don't pretend to be an expert in whether a meal is traditional Chinese meal or not, and while I might be adventurous in my meals, my children are not. So with that preface, I ordered very basic food; I got the Sweet and Sour Chicken and General Tso's with a side of fried rice and some eggrolls (which they gave us extra of). One of the best Chinese restaurants I've tried ever since I came from my origin country (Ecuador - they do have awesome Chinese food there). Tried it in 2010 and thought it was ok, with my girlfriend now I decided to come back some one month and a half ago and loved it! Fried rice is reeeeally good, I love the wonton soup, the fried wontons...well, the sweet&sour chicken was not that great (not the juicy soft type I love...it was cruncy and not very flavorful). I've heard bad comments about it but I think it's a pretty decent place. It's almost right next to the place I work at. The woman at the counter is really nice and helpful and her daughter always looks at my girlfriend and me in a nice way. :) Definitely recommend it! read more

I was in the hospital delivering my daughter december 26th and as soon as I had her I wanted to order Chinese since I couldn't have it due to my gestational diabetes. We had waited so long just for the delivery and when we got the food it was awful. Never had such horrible chinese food. The beef fried rice was so bland! The crab rangoon was so hard to chew and whatever they use to make the outside shell of it was terrible. None of the food we ordered was even the least bit good. I would have never called back if it were just one of the food items, but it was everything. Huge disappointment. When I called for a refund they stated they would come pick it up and give a full refund, but only if it was all of the food. I said we already started eating it so they told us they wouldnt give us a full refund. I thought that was ridiculous. You have to start eating the food to realize that it doesnt taste good. So they offered a refund of half. We spent like $50-$60 with the tip. And it was like $29 we still ended up paying for food we just tossed in the trash. Completely dissatisfied. Did not appreciate the service or attitude we got at the end. read more
