Pleasantly surprised! We usually go to another Chinese restaurant, but happened upon China Star since they are open on Mondays. Had beef and broccoli, hunan beef and General Tso's chicken. All were excellent! The crab rangoon and eggrolls were also very good. We will be back. read more

Not happy. Spent $50. Burnt fried wontons. Asked for extra spicy, got NO spice. Both dishes disappointing. Crab Rangoon "ok.". I won't go back. I'd give 0 stars if I could. read more

I absolutely loved the egg-roll best around. Ordered the general tso chicken it wasn't as spicy and thick as we have had it but the chicken was on point. The rice that it comes with is different since it's bbq pork. Definitely good. Definitely worth the buck. For how much you get. read more

As usual, I am on the road for work and I find myself in the Bloomington/Normal, Illinois area this week. My day was over before lunch and I had a hankering for Chinese food. China Star is right around the corner from my hotel so it was the natural choice and I stoped on my way back from where I am working. Like most quick service Chinese restaurants, the dining area was small and had the obligatory lighted menu with photographs of the more popular choices. I am a creature of habit at these types of Chinese restaurants so I ordered my usual... General Tso's Chicken lunch special. If you are unfamiliar with lunch specials at Chinese restaurants, they consist of the main course, fried rice, and an egg roll. This is exactly what I was craving, so China Star hit all the buttons. In typical quick service Chinese restaurant style my food was ready before I knew it and I was on my way. More so than usual, my food had a very strong garlic smell which wasn't unpleasant. I had the good fortune to smell my food on the short trip to the hotel from the restaurant. The food was packaged with care and looked like your typical General Tso's when I opened the to-go container. The rice was more brown than usual but I am used to all shades between white and brown when it comes to fries rice. Most Chinese restaurants don't prepare fried rice as it should be but that's okay, I enjoy it anyway. The egg roll was a bit on the small side but again, I have seen the gamut in egg roll size and besides... well, you know how the saying goes. The food tasted good. The General Tso's sauce wasn't overly sweet as is the case at many Chinese restaurants. The fried rice was tasty, as was the egg roll. I did have to use the packaged hot mustard.... meh. I prefer the real thing when it comes to Chinese hot mustard. I want my eyes to becomes waterfalls and I want my sinuses to scream in pain. If your face isn't contorted after you take a bite of an egg roll slathered in hot mustard, you aren't living! Overall, China Star is your typical neighborhood Chinese quick service restaurant. The staff friendly and helpful, the food not bad, and overall a good value. read more

I know everyone in town has their personal favorite, but I feel like I could make a string case for why China Star is objectively the best Chinese in town. 1. Consistency: I've eaten here many many times, and tried many different menu items. They always come out just as I expect. No surprises. 2. Quality. China Star uses the best and freshest ingredients. I've eaten at some of their competitors, who sometimes use mystery meat and limp veggies. This is never the case at China Star. 3. Service: I've never had to wait longer than expected on an order, and the staff are all courteous and attentive. I just tried their new online ordering website today, after being away from China Star for far too long. A+. Very easy to navigate. Looking forward to going back soon!!! read more

Had the shrimp fried rice, not many tiny baby shrimp, not many veggies... Expensive and no flavor, will pass on this place next time.

These guys here really care how the perfect the Chinese fast food at its finest cooking perfection, I really missed them. I been traveling everywhere in West Coast where lot of population of Asian food but can't find a decent healthy Chinese food at it fine dining too. I missed Henry & his wife..very caring in their cooking recipes. My favorites from them is Singapore noodle, egg foo young, beef & broccoli, lo mein noodle OMG perfection! Too many to list as I'm sitting in my sunny California home to list. I miss them so much. Bloomington/Normal is blessed to have China Star restaurants. Not much choice but only the best choice restaurant in the area. Now that I have moved & travels everywhere there's no place like Bloomington/Normal..for healthy eating out. I missed Illinois but not the cold snow... read more

Was a little pricey, but some of the best Chinese take-out I've had in a while. I ordered General Tso's chicken, which was sweet and slightly spicy. Make sure to sub out dark meat for white, and lo mein instead of the fried rice! read more

First Wok is usually our go-to, but they're closed on Tuesdays, and I didn't want to cook. Why not try somewhere new? It's takeaway Chinese; how bad can it be? Bad. It can be so bad. The food was hot, so that was nice. But it was just... I don't even know how to describe it. The only discernable flavor was pepper. The lo mein was off both in taste and texture. Give this place a miss. read more

So it's okay. It is predictable and inexpensive. They did get my friends order incorrect. The egg rolls seems small :-\ The crab rangoon is great. Lots to choose from Very fast read more

Ended up here because The Spot across the street was closed. Got Mongolian chicken to go. There are a few tables but everyone was there waiting in carry-out orders. The Mongolian chicken was unlike any I've ever had, in fact I thought I got the wrong food. There were pea pods in it and grilled onions instead of green onions. The fried rice had peas in it, but not too many. Portion sizes are good and it's reasonably priced. The crab Rangoon was the best I've ever had. I would go again but not get the Mongolian chicken read more

Close to a Tesla supercharger I thought it would be different than the usual fast food. Certainly not worth the adventure. Pot sticker dumplings were deep fried beyond recognition. Tasted as if they were fried in week old fat. Egg rolls were served on styrofoam plate that melted on the food! Sauces were the standard fast food take out plastic packets. Kung Pao chicken was flavorless. Next time I'm passing through I will stick to the predictable chains. read more

The food is always good and their delivery is fast and accurate. I have not dined in. I pick up or use delivery

I was really craving Chinese food and me and my family went out searching for places that were open on a Saturday night and we found this place and we gave it a shot. There were only 2 tables in the restaurant because it looks like it primarily does takeout. We order the food and it came out in 5 minutes. We had the family meal which consisted of beef and broccoli, pork fried rice, Mongolian chicken and crab ragoons. I was very satisfied with the food and the service was very attentive. If I were to get Chinese food around the town of normal I would come here. read more

With COVID in place, China Star is only bringing out orders to customer's cars. Orders can be called in or ordered on EatStreet and can be picked up in the parking lot. Call 309-451-1888 upon arrival and your order will be brought out to you. Tasty Chinese food for the price! read more

My "go to" chinese restaurant for take out or delivery. Love the wonton soup and the hot& sour soup. Udon noodles are always good. I'm a "noodle crazy" guy!! read more

SERIOUSLY AMAZING. Ok, maybe we were Really HUNGRY, and maybe the fact that this mysterious restaurant rose like a phoenix from the ashes of a yelp search for chinese food in the middle of "NORMAL, IL." We stopped and ate there, the quality of the freshly made food was wonderful. MMM... Crunchy General Tso's chicken. Very crispy tempura, great crunch even with sauce. The BF's Hunan chicken had lots of fresh peppers, broccoli, snow peas and carrots. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Less than 1 mile south of 55. Closest Chinese restaurant to the Highway. Bathrooms were shabby. Could use a remodel. Dining area was sparse but clean. The cooks speak only Chinese! read more

Pretty solid Chinese place. Dad had the shrimp lo mein and LOVED it. I had the chicken lo mein, pretty solid place. Egg rolls were good- if you like cabbage you will like these egg rolls. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I am new to B-N area and this is by far best Chinese I have had here. The egg roll had real shrimp not that dried up little pink shrimp tasting strip. The shrimp egg foo young was thinner patties, contained vegetables and had the light brown gravy. Have had thick patty and dark brown gravy in past but much prefer it the way China Star made it. The beef with broccoli was soft and flavorful with fresher broccolli than 75% of the take out I have had. Also had steamed vegetables entree and I love Love LOVE that they offer this. The on the side sauce (thank you for this option) was dark brown soy sauce based kind of terayaki like. Vegetables were bok choy, celery, pea pods, and broccoli. Weirdly there were no carrots or watercress in mine which brings us to why four stars. I am not a rice connoisseur and I did not have fried rice but considering good quality of entrees, the white rice was surprisingly overcooked and sort of sticky. I have had way worse and was totally edible but for the not cheap price, I would have liked better rice. Overall will definitely eat here again and recommend to others. Also, I ordered at counter and food ready very fast in less than 15 minutes at an off meal time. read more

Me and my husband's favorite chinese restaurant! We've been going here for years and can't get enough. They are so kind. Friendly! Fast! Consistent! Flavorful! Big portions!! I could go on and on! We've never been disappointed! Mmm read more

This was literally, the worst Chinese food I've ever had. No flavor whatsoever. I ordered extra sauce thinking this was a cool feature of the order online function and would allow me to dip my egg roll in the sauce. Instead, it was like a watery soup instead of regular general tso sauce. Despite the extra sauce, there was no flavor to the sauce. I'd never go here again. read more

I ordered here, giving it a second chance. I wasted $45 feeding my family and my grown kids family. The large family portion of general tso chicken had 4 teaspoon sized pieces of broccoli....for 4 people. Each of us got less than a mouthful of broccoli and the flavor was horrible. The large family size order of crab rangoon had 6 pieces, again each piece one bite, at $1 a bite. I've never seen such small crab rangoon. I will NEVER order here again!!! I will drive across town to China Inn. read more

I accidentally ordered from here once. I meant to order from Great Wall, but turns out I ordered from here. I picked up the food and was a little skeptical of it. The place looks weird and not quite as nice as Great Wall. But, I'll tell you, the looks of the restaurant do not speak for the quality of the food in this case. The food was actually pretty good, better than I really anticipated, and that made for a great night for me. I was elated with the taste and consistency of the sauce on my General's Tofu and found the fried rice to be of the "quality fried" variety, instead of the "brown steamed rice with grease and flavor" you find as so many other restaurants. The food wasn't overly greasy, nor was it bland or dry. I have to say that this isn't my first choice in Chinese food (I've got a place in every city for that) but it is a pretty decent choice. If you're tired of ordering from the same place over and over again, give these guys a try, cause they do get it right. read more

China Star has replaced Great Wall as our go-to Chinese restaurant in town. It's fantastic quality for the price. The Kung Pao chicken is amazing, the egg rolls taste fresh, and the Sweet & Sour chicken is clearly handmade. I am sooo glad our friends turned us on to this place. Frankly, we're likely never ordering from Great Wall again despite being very regular customers for 9 years now. Oh! And China Star has online ordering through EatStreet. That clears up any translation problems, and makes it a breeze to get exactly what we want and pay for it ahead of time. Amazing. read more

China Star is my go to and is about 2.5 miles away. I've stopped ordering ahead, because these guys are freaky fast at cooking. I show up, look at the current special, order... And magic! My order is up before I can believe. Great job, and the food is great. read more

Best Chinese food in Bloomington normal. Always fresh and tasty. Excellent customer service. My go to always

I will never order from China Star again- and I'm a long time customer. I ordered sweet and sour chicken with fried rice but did not receive the rice. When I called to address the issue, the manager accused me of lying and said I could either come get it myself or get a free one next time. When I asked to have it tonight as I've already ordered and paid to have the dinner tonight, she refused. When I asked if she always speaks to her customers like this, she admitted that she does and accused me of having an attitude... after accusing me of lying!! She said the owner speaks even worse to customers. Save your money. Do not order from here. read more

Do I still want my shrimp fried rice? You have got to be kidding me. Yes, I was proposed this question by a young lady a China Star. To make a long story short let me get down to it. I ordered food to be delivered only one block. Almost next door to the restaurant. An hour later the food was no where to be found. I called the restaurant and didn't get any help. That is when I went into the restaurant and told them to cancel my order. This place doesn't provide the resources they say. However, the food is delicious saving them from joining the one star chumps read more

Looks very humble when you walk past. But food is amazing. China star is a gem. Recommend their pan fried pot stickers, they make them there fresh. Their sweet crab Rangoon are the best in town and also homemade and fried fresh. My go to item is their lunch special general tso's chicken extra spicy. Super fast and clean. Staffs are friendly and helpful. They are usually super fast even during rush hours. read more

I ordered the large black pepper chicken and shrimp fried rice. i asked for no veggies in the chicken, and they gave me a container with about 5-6 forkfuls of chicken on it. Just dissapointing, and not much overall flavor in the whole meal. We had to add chinese sauces out of my fridge to the fried rice in order to give it any flavor. The shrimp almost looked boiled. No flavor. 0/10, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more

They have really dropped off in terms of quality. I just ordered delivery and after almost 2 hours they only delivered part of the order, and what was delivered was cold and not very tasty.
