I wanted to venture out to a new sushi place from the ones in Peoria so I got takeout from Oyama Sushi. Ordering over the phone was super easy. When it came to pickup, food was ready at requested time and the hostess checked every item and even rearranged the packing so that it would not get messed up on the way home! This was the first sign that they are invested in the quality of food provided. Not pictured: we also got crab rangoons and Steak Udon (stir fried). The sushi was the freshest fish that I've had in a long time and the Rainbow Naruto was so refreshing with the ponzu sauce! The Mexican roll was also delicious and I got an extra side of the jalapeño sauce to use on other pieces. Ikura was not fishy at all like other places I've tried and smoked salmon was delicious. Not sure what's up with the negative reviews, we had a good time and didn't notice anything backwards. Ordered plenty for us five hungry kids, massive sushi boat, appetizer, and solo roll, all showed up quick enough. Some slices of sashimi seems old but tasted fine. Yes! Finally a sushi spot in Morton. This place is awesome whether you're wanting to dine-in or do carry-out. We've lived all over (Chicago, New York..etc) as you can imagine sushi in big cities is great and the sushi at Oyama is definitely comparable! The restaurant is new and clean and staff is really friendly. The presentation of the food is really pleasing and their menu is pretty large for such a small, modest restaurant. And most importantly the sushi is affordable, they're not charging 8 dollars for a Cali roll, like some places... Definitely will be making this a regular spot. Highly recommend! read more

I really wanted to like this place and was looking forward to it with all the good reviews. However, our experience was less than satisfactory. Overall, most of the fish tasted ok. However, there was a dead bug stuck to one of the tuna pieces - I will spare you of the picture here. I expect restaurants to be extra hygienic when serving raw fish so this was just disappointing. One of the white tuna pieces also tasted less than fresh. My stomach was not happy with me after this meal. The extra star is only for our server who was friendly and apologetic. They offered to make another plate, but really all the appetite was gone after that. Maybe this is an off day, but I don't think I would consider going back there. read more

I was wanting sushi and wanted to try somewhere new. Came across Oyama and decided to give it a try. It is small very clean and the food was really good. The staff were very friendly and our service was good. Overall the food was above the average and excellent for the Peoria area. The service was good but a little slow. However, they were busy and only seemed to have a couple of servers. All in all very good and would definitely recommend giving it a try. read more

The sushi is sub par itself. For the general area I believe it's the only sushi place by so you're kind of obligated to go there if you want that in Morton. Every time I've gone here the rolls are pretty flavorless. Again, they're not downright horrible, but definitely not something to write home about. The other issue is their closing time on Fridays. Their sign says 10 p.m. but I would highly advise the owner closing at 9 p.m. The reason being- the employees will treat you like crap if you set foot in the door past 9. We got there at 9:10 and our waitress was SO rude the entire time. We ordered quickly and ate just as fast and we were out of there prior to 10 p.m. It is not our fault your business is open for another hour and nobody wants to be there.... Especially on a Friday night. Based on the quality of the food and now the service, we won't be going back. read more

Finally decided to check this new place out in town and was very impressed. I ordered the Yakatori, treasure roll for appetizers and was very tasty and presented well. We both had hibachi and it was full of flavor, appropriately portioned and the rice was great. Fried cheesecake for desert was a nice treat as well. Bill was under $100 with tip and service was fantastic. Clean and quant in a nice little location. I'll be excited to try some sashimi and rolls on my next trip and the udon noodles. read more

We've eaten here a few times now and it's really nice to have good sushi in Morton. Our tastes tend to run to the simpler items. I'm not a fan of four kinds of fish drowning in mayo and eel sauce. Plus, straight up nigiri sushi will quickly tell you the quality of the fish the restaurant stocks. Oyama passed with flying colors. They have a wide variety of nigiri, simple rolls and, yes, the lots of mayo stuff too if you like that. We had a really good shrimp tempura roll that was beautifully crispy. The outside is a bit unassuming but this place definitely exceeds expectations, the interior of the restaurant is smartly decorated and very relaxing. Plenty of booths for those who prefer cozy seats. The sushi is comparable to the best places we've been all over the country, no joke. They don't pad the sushi rolls with layers upon layers of rice to just fill you up, it's one thin layer of rice on the outside and a roll stuffed with high quality, fresh ingredients. Staff is very friendly and the overall experience leaves us wanting to come back for more. Can't wait! read more
