Review Visit: April 23rd, 2016 I hope the China Dragon doesn't eat me! Ahhhh! Riding the EP-Morton bike trail, you can pass by a business district in Morton and in the group of buildings resides this delicious dragon. So while riding one day, I decided to pop in and get some food. This place is just about as normal as a Chinese restaurant comes. It's small, has a large menu, actual decent amount of seating and good food. I hopped back on my bike and rode over to a small pavilion over by the bike trail to enjoy my food. The day was beautiful and eating in peace was nice. Overall, it was pretty good with no real complaints.

Hot and Sour Soup

So I stopped in because I was on the road and didn't want a fast food burger or sandwich. I ordered hot and sour soup, a pork egg roll and beef lo mein. I decided to eat in vs takeout and had barely started to scroll thru my emails when the food was delivered! I mean in under 4 minutes. The lo mein had just the right size of beef cuts and it was delicious. The hot and sour had a good dark hue from cooking a long time. Not overdone. Had a nice kick from the spices and vinegar. Egg roll was a little darker than expected and I thought it was going to taste "burned" but the flavor was exceptional. So well done China Dragon. Did not disappoint and I will be back. Reasonable prices. These folks are "gittin 'er done"!!

Decent food, but the girl working there is sooo rude. No wonder they are so slow, they don't act like they don't even want you there.

Review Visit: December 16th, 2012…read more Jade Garden, or as the locals call in, 'Jah-day Gar-deen' (with a french accent). Maybe it is just my circle of friends that call it that, but it's a fun take on a pretty delicious Chinese restaurant. This one is a pretty well-known place in East Peoria that almost everyone has as it is not only delicious, but one of the few Chinese places to get food, up until recently. Being a local favorite among a lot of people I know, we decided to go there and get some food. At it's core, Jade Garden is your typical 'fast food Chinese place'. It has the dated light up menu, it has the giant paper menu and it has the kids running around. Now these aren't negative things. But if you never been to one of these places, those are the things you can expect. I can't remember this trip verbatim. We got there, ordered food and sat down. They were nice enough to bring our food out to us as we were seated around the corner from the cashier counter. Typically these places do not have a ton of seating and this place is the same, if not having a bit more than what I am used to. Now I have visited a lot of these style of restaurants and for the most part, they are all about the same tasting. But Jade Garden is a notch above. Not sure what the difference here is. Everything just tasted a bit better. Even my friends agreed that it was super good. Even on sub sequential visits, I have had great food. To wrap up the first visit though, we all enjoy a great meal and even hung out for awhile afterwards to relax, chit-chat and let the food settle. Since my first visit, East Peoria has acquired a Panda Express and a Jun's Chinese Restaurant (which has unfortunately closed). I am kind of jumping around here but Jade is a notch above your typical fast food Chinese place. If you find yourself in the East Peoria area and need some great Chinese, give 'Jah-day Gar-deen' a chance! Photos are a bit lacking for this place, so I will try to get more when I go back in the near future.

I hate to leave this review because I have enjoyed eating at Golden Kitchen for several years, but…read moretoday's experience was extremely disappointing. After the way my complaint was handled, I will not be returning. When I placed my order, I specifically requested the vegetables I wanted in my vegetable soups and clearly stated that I did NOT want baby corn or peas. I was assured that my request would be accommodated. Yet when I received my order, the soup contained exactly what I had asked them to leave out. I called to explain the problem and was told there was nothing they could do because those are the ingredients that come in the soup. Then why assure me that my request could be accommodated? I have ordered this soup several times before with the vegetables I requested, so this was not some unreasonable expectation. I am angry about paying for an order that was not prepared as agreed and then being brushed off when I called about it. Mistakes happen, but refusing to take responsibility or make things right is unacceptable customer service. After several years of supporting this restaurant, I expected better. Golden Kitchen has lost a longtime customer.

Review Visit: February 2nd, 2013…read more A Chinese restaurant by any other name has the same exact menu. Lian Wang, like many other restaurants of the same nature, offers the same thing that every other carry-out Chinese restaurant offers. I am in no way saying that that is a bad thing. In fact, I am a lover of these hole-in-the-wall style restaurants. Servings tend to be large and prices more than affordable. Lian Wang is no different. Situated in a strip mall in that strange area between Creve Coeur and Pekin known as... North Pekin... Lian Wang serves up your typical fast Chinese. With a menu that you've seen at a million other Chinese restaurants, you'll more than likely find what you are looking for without much issue. Having been here a few times since 2013, I can say that the food and service are great upon repeated visits. The person that took my order was the same each time and she started to get what I wanted down to a 'T'. While I stand aside and wait for my food to come out, I notice that the cashier has half of the area's orders memorized. Almost each customer that came in was offered with the remark of "the usual"? Now that is quite the memory. Like I said, Lian Wang offers nothing new or exciting but that is exactly what you get with these kinds of places. Familiar menu items and familiar tastes at prices that are super affordable. If you like these kinds of places, Lian Wang won't disappoint.

That was probably one of the most delicious meals that I have had in a long time. I tried shrimp with lobster sauce from Ming's restaurant, but I found disappointment. I have also tried the baby fried shrimp with shrimp fried rice from Chinatown. It was also delicious. I would also recommend the crab rangoon and the chicken teriyaki sticks. The only thing that I wish was better was the delivery time, you have to spend a $20 minimum for delivery plus a delivery fee. I find myself normally waiting around 45 minutes for them to arrive. They have never arrived past their estimated delivery time. I still give Chinatown kitchen five stars because all in all everything was to my satisfaction.

DoorDash came to the rescue and Chinatown Kitchen came up highly recommended. I was thinking of some Vietnamese food as pho is my favorite but they closed early. I'm glad because Chinatown Kitchen was really good. First let me just say there will be enough food to feed 3 people or two hungry people. I got the happy family with chicken, shrimp, imitation crab, pork, and beef. It was loaded with tons of vegetables and a mild but flavorful brown sauce. It came with a huge side of fried rice. The fried rice had peas, diced carrots, and onion in there which I always appreciate instead of just plain rice. I also tried the à la carte pork egg roll (hot, crispy, and excellent). I did my best but at the end could only make a dent in a third of it. Which means one thing: leftovers for breakfast...lol

Review Visit: February 14th, 2013…read more As I write this blog, I am eating some Cherry Garden! I was in Washington for a weekend and hungry so I decided to try Cherry Garden again; since I haven't had it since 2013. My previous visit was on Valentine's Day and I remember not being too excited with the food back then. I forget what I ordered but it was probably something like chicken fried rice or general tsao's, since those are my go-to orders. It was good but nothing great. I've talked to other people who live in the area and they love it, so it may just be a personal thing. But hey, things changed after 5 years, right? This time I ordered some ham fried rice since I got some at Golden Kitchen a few weeks ago and have been craving more since then. Did Cherry Garden scratch my itch? Kind of. The ham fried rice was pretty good but lacking that WOW factor. It's almost like they cook their food in a more... healthier fashion. With America's growing obesity issue, that could be a good thing! But I digress. The inside of Cherry Garden offers plenty of seating. The area where you order food to-go is separated from the seating area by some doors. So if you go to eat-in, you are secluded a bit from the traffic of people coming in and placing orders. With it attached to a strip mall area, there is plenty of parking, so that'll never be a concern. There is a website advertised on the menu but be warned when you visit it; my computer alerted me that it was a malicious website. Just think of one of those giant double-sided Chinese menus and that's exactly what this place offers. My fortune cookie was spot on though. It said, "Traveling at this time would be a good investment of time & money". Which is fantastic as I have traveled quite a bit lately and will be going to St. Louis soon to see a Cardinals game with my mom. So let's see what places I visit while down there! Eat cherry, be merry.

Review Visit: June 20th, 2016…read more Eating too much Fast Dragon can make you a Fat Dragon. After spending the afternoon fishing at Pekin Lagoon with my girlfriend at the time, we were just as hungry as the fish we were trying to catch. I asked what she wanted and she said Chinese. So, we pulled up Google to see what local places they had in Pekin. There weren't too many places to pick from but since we both never had Fast Dragon, we made that our destination. Fast Dragon is your typical local 'hole in the wall' quick Chinese restaurant. I don't mean that in a derogatory manner by any means. What I mean is that if you were to visit here or any other similar restaurant, your experience would be the same. Our food came out fast. It was decently priced for the amount of food you get. The menu had that familiar look, layout and options to it. This was the exact experience we got here. We were both starving by the time we ordered our food and took a seat at a table. Our poor stomachs didn't have to wait long before the lady who took our order brought it out to us. My girlfriend at the time ordered some sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, as that is her usual go-to for Chinese. I also ordered my usual, which is a General Tsao's with fried rice. The serving size was ample and typical of a place like this. We devoured our food like a hungry dragon. Each bit was delicious but nothing I would go out of my way to get when places in my town offer a very similar food experience. But, if you are a resident of Pekin and you have a hankering for Chinese, Fast Dragon will fulfill everything you need to scratch that food itch.
