The chicken teriyaki was good and the rolls were big and had a lot of filling inside but it was a little pricey for what I got. The sushi was good and I highly recommend the "white yum yum sauce" I'm not sure what's in it but it's delicious and would be perfect on some fried rice! The reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of portion vs price. I ordered 1 rainbow roll (6 pieces), 2 orders of Salmon Sashimi (2 pieces per order), and a side of edamame and it was almost $30! I eat sushi often so I know it's not the cheapest cuisine but $30 for what was essentially 10 pieces of sushi seemed a little overpriced to me. For that I expected the sushi roll to be much bigger. But aside from that everything I got was good. I probably wouldn't order the salmon Sashimi again through. It was a thick but which was nice but it was a little fishy and had a greasy liquid on it so I'm not confident in how fresh it was. read more

Sometimes I look at a place that has bad Yelp reviews and I ignore it. Everytime I do this I always regret my decision and swear I will never go against Yelp again. This is a perfect example of that. First off, the price was awful for not even having access to the whole sushi menu. It's cheaper is Scottsdale, AZ so that's saying a lot. The quality of the fish wasn't awful, but there was so little of it you could hardly tell compared to the MASSIVE amount of rice they used. Each roll had enough rice on it for 2 rolls. Not impressed. Ordered a beer, waited 10 minutes at least and had to ask for it again. Sushi wasn't that fresh - ordered Sakura roll and the fish that was sitting on top of the roll looked pretty sad as in lost its color and shape. Also ordered two Chinese dish which I thought they tasted decent but portion was somewhat small. One of our friend's food came out 5 min after everyone else got their food. We also ordered dumplings as a appetizer in the beginning , didn't get it while we were almost done with our meal, had to remind the server again and then basically got it as dessert and no apology from the server. Service and management: Waitress are new, understandable that they don't have much knowledge on the menu, at least nice attitude. Store manager was bad though, she argues with customers, tell you if you don't like it, too bad! They charge you penalty if you can't eat it simply because of the bad quality. They tell you :"You HAVE TO eat this whole piece, otherwise, you are charged with penalty." Basically, they are telling customers 'too bad, that you have a reasonable taste and standard for food and services you are looking for, pay full price, and leave!' Price: it is $21 for all you can eat sushi. It is not all you can eat, there are various of limitations. Those limitation goes to $26 option. So, you can't eat as much as sashimi as you want. You can actually have 4 pieces per item. They are basically not honest about their selling point. Waitress asked me if I want anything to drink, I said tea is fine. You would assume that tea is included in all you can eat. NO! you are wrong. They will charge you 3 dollars for a cup of tea. It is outrageous. I wish this place can be better. Otherwise, I would really suggest you find you a better place to spend your precious time and money. You are not getting happiness back from this restaurant. read more

For a brand new restaurant that has fresh sushi it was delicious. Small restaurant for seating on the inside. The owners are very knowledgeable in their sushi, are really nice people, and they have lived here in Bloomington for 10 years. Portions are good sized for the price, and come displayed pretty on your plate. I decided on the all you can eat sushi, which came with miso soup and house salad. After eating 4 different maki rolls, I almost had wished I had ordered just a couple rolls the first "round". Tips: Make sure that you only order a little bit at a time, especially with rice based rolls you can fill up fast. You can't share your all you can eat with anyone else at the table, and you'll pay 50 cents for every piece that isn't eaten. The servers either are spread very thin with other tables or (like today's visit) are so uninformed on how to wait on a table that it hurts. It has a few booths, but mosly individual tables for two. I came here with my boyfriend and we ordered Dragon roll, spicy crab, mango tango and 2 salmon nigiri, 2 eel nigiri and 2 yellow tail. The spicy crab roll is 4/5 it is not very spicy, just mild so it is perfect for someone who can't really eat spicy and would still like to try it. I like more spicy stuff so i give it only 4/5. (don't judge my rating system!) The dragon roll 5/5 the eel has a nice soft texture with fresh avocado and cucumber. The rice is not too sour from the vinegar. The chef also put the perfect amount of sauce. Usually the sushi rice falls apart when too much sauce is added. The rice stayed solid and was easy to pick up . Mango Tango 5/5. This was my first time trying sushi with mango, but WOW. I was blown away. It was so fresh and crunchy. If you are someone who likes crunchy and sweet stuff you should try this roll. It is more pricy. Around $6. They put cucumber and fake crab meat on the inside. The outside has a slice of mango and some sweet mango sauce. Salmon/eel/yellowtail nigiri 5/5. I'm not too impressed by Yumz overall. I've been here several times to give them a try on sushi, hibachi grill, entree, but overall they are just an okay restaurant. The sushi rolls are 3 stars, with good varieties, but very little attention to details. Their raw fish is pretty fresh, though. When it comes to hibachi grill, I've tried their steak and chicken. The steak was good, but the chicken was too dry without any tenderness, and it was over-covered with sauce to give it flavor. Their soups are below average, especially the hot-sour soup. The only thing I'd come back here for is probably their milk bubble tea! It tasted good with real tea flavor and texture. read more

Great find! 4stars. Best thing about it was it was super clean!!! Was greeted right away, people were really nice and checked on my often. Got my appetizer super quick. Fried Wontons...they were ok. But then got the Sushi Roll(see picture) not much for presentation but wow did it pack some serious flavor!!! Would totally come back if nothing else but to get the Super Volcano roll. Loved it! Yumz, the z stands for extra yummy. Definitely my go to sushi place in Bloomington-Normal. Their food, price, and interior, all things considered together, makes me want to go back there over Anju, Kobe, and Kochi. The restaurant interior is small but clean and new. You get to see their kitchen and how your food is made, which is always a plus in my book, it shows they take pride in how they handle your food. Food, I've tried a good potion of their menu by now. Their sushi is fresh and portion size is good, though their technique is lacking because the rolls are just so loosely packed and therefore large. Normal entrees are hit or miss, but in general everything is cooked well. Their fried food are not too greasy, food are not too salty, and presentation is clean. Their menu do offer some more authentic Asian dishes, which is hard to find in Bloomington. read more

I ordered carryout for lunch today. Upon entering, the store seemed very clean and well maintained. I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff, and my order was ready. I was able to prepay online, so it was a quick trip for lunch. I tried the Spicy Tuna Roll, Las Vegas Roll, and Tempura Cheese Balls. I agree with other Yelpers that the rolls are HUGE! I would not want to try and eat these in public with chopsticks! Unfortunately, I had to pass on my chopstick skills, and resorted to a knife and fork. The rolls didn't hold together well, but were decent. The spice level on the tuna roll was a 1 out of 10. I like a lot more zip. The Las Vegas Roll (crab meat, avocado, cucumber & cream cheese) was pretty in presentation, but the amount of crab was disappointing. The "spicy" mayo on top was also a 1 out of 10 in heat level. I was hoping for some decent heat to enjoy the Tempura Cheese Balls. I would give this place a 5 out of 5 just for the cheese balls. If any locals remember Hayashi, these are a close second. They don't have that delicious golden sauce Hayashi served, but they are pretty tasty. I will go back, maybe try some different rolls, or request more heat if possible. To be fair, we gave them an honest try. I was blown away by how good everything was. We ordered potstickers and stuffed jalapenos with crab for our appetizers. I order the Mt. I usually do not write reviews but I had to about this place. Went there for lunch with a co-worker and it was absolutely amazing. I went with the all you can eat option for 13.99 just because I was eyeing 2 specialty rolls that would of came out to that amount anyways and it was well worth it. The sushi was very fresh and the wait staff was very polite and the wait time was not long at all even though it was busy. There are some complaints in the other reviews about how the service was bad but that was not my experience in the slightest bit.
